Question for you Plingaling

Before I resigned, I nominated myself for bureaucratship because I felt it was a step back from day-to-day sysopping. People joke that being a bureaucrat is like taking a holiday, but it's partially true in that it isn't as much to take on as being a sysop. In that sense, it's not really a return to the scene.

And yeah, I thought the candidate list could do with a little widening, regardless of the outcome. (I think Rainith would be best for the position.) -- pling 20:11, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Opposition conspiracy

Yeah, just to clear things up a bit: I think Rainith is the best candidate for the position. Before voting started, I wasn't sure he'd win because he's relatively less well-known/popular than Jon; essentially, it looked to be a foregone conclusion. Adding a few more candidates would thus open the election up a bit.

What I wasn't expecting was that Rainith would be close to winning and I'd be ± 1 within his count. I made a few comments in IRC regarding this and how a couple more oppose votes would mean the better candidate wins. I'm not sure whether I should withdraw because it'd go against that concept of including more candidates in this election, and also that it would feel like I'm making the decision to lose rather the people. (If we're going for democracy, do it properly. Right? Right?) I think that explains some of the switching of votes from support to oppose. -- pling 20:50, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm not on the IRC channel so this is the first I've heard of this. I'd prefer you stay in Pling and if you win, you win. I dislike the idea of "backdoor dealings" to take a buzzword from the current US elections (at least in my area) and would like to win or lose without anything of the sort. --Rainith 21:13, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Oh no, there's no actual conspiracy here (the name of the section is supposed to be ironic/sarcastic/stupid). I'm not telling anyone to vote one way or another, and there's no collective will determined to thrust you towards victory. If I win, I win. Making yourself eligible for the spot just to expand the amount of candidates led me to believe your heart was not truly in it. If there are only 2 people are deemed (or deem themselves) suitable for the spot, I would say "so be it". Koda Kumi 22:04, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Expressing (in public) a preference isn't really vote-rigging. What other users did of their own accord was similar to how you used support and oppose votes to maximise your input, as you explained on Rainith's candidacy talk. -- pling 23:11, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
