Comment on the changes for the Ritualist[edit]

Hello, I enjoy playing a PvE Spirit Spammer ritualist. I find the exhaustion addition to 3/8 of my skills a complete devastation of the way I play GW. I don't play pvp because one Ele can take out my spirits faster than I can set them up, and rit's are very high on any teams attack list. boring. I do like setting up some spirits, and then agroing the baddies into the area. now, i can just barely complete casting my spirits, and am exhausted. Not even enough energy to cast painful bond at the end. I think the change in the spirits was an attempt to open them up for other characters with ritualist as secondary. As of now, I don't really feel like playing Guild wars much anymore, all the fun is gone...

(in effect a spirit spammer is no longer possible.) --Kyle van der Meer 05:03, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Spirit spammers in PvE can rely on enough other skills now. (Pain,Bloodsong,Vampirism,Shadowsong,Fury, and 1 sprit of exhaustion.) Thats enough to deal dmg. However I don't get it, why Ancestor's Rage now gets exhaustion. Rt spikes woulda been nerfed enough without this detail, don't you agree? And as for Xinrae: dunno if that will now cut it. --Ineluki "Coward!".jpg 10:36, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
It's not just the damage dealing. Vampirism and Gaze of Fury aren't as powerful as Anguish, Dissonance, or Disenchantment and neither interupt/remove enchantments. Fury does not count towards boon of creation either. The update has removed effectively removed around 50 damage and an interrupt/enchantment removal per round of spirit fire. And now I've got to grind killing things for sunspear points so those spirits will be higher than a level 2? meh --Kyle van der Meer 16:54, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Rit Spike got killed. Mainly because of Ancestors Rage. Sledgehammer Nerf, exhaustion kills this skill. Even longer recharge would not have been so bad. Xinrae stuff might see some use now, they might work with Exhaustion. Yet have to see them used by anyone. Ancestor's Rage should have been balanced in another way. Not mauled like this. I also wonder why such combos like FGJ + Signet of Aggression are allowed to exist, the adrenaline gain is hilarious. --Longasc 17:24, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Acutally... if you make you Rit a Rit/E, then you can make use of Glyph of Energy... the 10 second recharge is a little bit of a drag... but at least with the cheeper energy cost of the Rit Spirits, the 5 energy of this spell wont really matter.... not to mention make the Rit spell free. Infact... 2 things... 1.) be glad they havn't touched Recuperation 2.) Now that I think about it, GoE would match nicely with Recuperation and Shelter :-) - Sabre Wolf, Clan Heavy Metal
Are you sure that GoE will work on binding rituals? I thought GoE works only on spells not rituals or any other non-spell skills.--Bane of Worlds 13:27, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Hate to spoil your joy but as the descriptions states, Glyph of Energy works only with spells.
I like to play Ritualist in PvE and PvP as well, this update did add exhaustion to 1 or 2 skills of my usual offensive spirits skill bar. I don't even think it's a bad change, I can afford Anguish more easily and the exhaustion should be already gone when I have to cast it again (with Summon Spirits you can keep it with you as long as it's alive). The update did hit the usual spam-nuking in pve pretty bad though, though I think there's alternative skills that can be used :) - IronHeart 13:54, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

The exhaustion to core channeling spells completely guts them. It destroys the class. Running around with Spirits Strength doesn't provide much entertainment. It damn sure isn't effective outside random arenas either. Restoration rits are better replaced with another monk or utility character for non-gimmick, non-trash teams. So that leaves what, spirits? GTFOH. Weapon Spell spamming? May as well be a BiPper in pve. Make Spirit Burn cause burning as the conditional, wielder's strike cause health degen, take off a second from the 3-sec delay on spirit rift or make it trigger after 4-5 secs, something besides the clumsy, heavy-handed addition of exhaustion. Hell, if feeling ambitious or guilty for adding rits as they were, then rework the class properly to what it should have been at Factions release. Eight of anything - be it 8 paras, 8 monks, 8 necros, etc - is going to be imbalanced and there's nothing that can be done about that without further throwing off balance short of restricting the amount of classes in a team. But class restriction would probably be another epic failure in GW's history.

Even though rits will be combined/condensed/merged in GW2 there's no reason to kill them off before GW1 itself is dead and burried. --CT 03:58, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Spirit Rift[edit]

Um... I have a major issue with this update... you telling me, that in order to use this skill, you have to wait 2 seconds to cast it... and another 3 seconds before it actually hits? So players have a 5 second warning for it to go off? Woof... I could take a nap, come back, and it might have hit the target by then... maybe increase the recharge time instead? - SabreWolf, Clan Heavy Metal

Take a closer look. How many players do you see actually try to dodge that thing? Lightblade 22:58, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
My PvP team does all the time... It just stinks for my PvE Rit Spiker...
IIRC it used to be 2 sec earlier. - IronHeart 13:38, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Favor Changes[edit]

OK, I'm gonna say this: this update is ridiculous. What is the point of HA now, if all you have to do is max a title to get favor? This really kills the PvP aspect of HA, and there will be a lot less players because of it. This just seems like a way to placate hard-core PvE'ers who want constant FoW and UW access (scrolls people), while screwing them over. As for the skill changes, interesting. Not only Ele skills cause exhaustion now. Ayumbhara 00:32, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

No it kills the PvE aspect of HA not PvP. Sure some people won't play HA now but over all it probably won't affect it to much. ~ Reaper 00:39, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, the favor is no longer territory- based, so now areas that didn't use to have the favor very much benefit a whole lot more from this, giving access to these areas a lor more than they could before.--User Gummy Joe Sig Icon.PNGGummy Joe 10:56, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
The PvP aspect of HA has always been about an emote and fast-paced action. A few play just for fun, fewer play for drops, and others because they have nothing else to do or caved in to the requests to teach someone. Other than the slight satisfaction of having your cleverly crafted alt guild name displayed across everyone's screen, that's pretty much it. So IMO the PvP aspect is unaffected as I don't know any PvPer or hybrid player who cares a lick about fow/UW access while in HA and the PvErs in the mix for loot and a deer will continue to go there until they reach those goals. --CT 04:11, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

i agree completely.[edit]

not only will more people not be attracted, but how often do 20 people achieve a max title? seems like territories would be attaining favor much less often.

next thing Anet will nerf is HOH chest -.- GW is fine, if it wasn't people wouldn't play. why mess with something perfect?

PvP rewarding PvE players?[edit]

The original system never made sense, PvE players sit and wait all day for their region to have favor, while the PvP players work hard at winning in HA/HoH. Why reward one group due to the work of another? If someone actually goes through the trouble to hold the hall of heroes, they aren't going to be around to reap the benefits of UW or FoW being available anyway.

The new system is worldwide, 20 titles is a very small amount of the existing players and many titles are maxed every day for many characters on many accounts. This new system allows favor to be gained 3-4 times per day, very possibly even near all day long, and times are also random. This allows people who weren't able to get into UW or FoW due to time or region limitations, to actually play in those areas. Txzeenath 04:20, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

What's your point? This system sucks, give it a month (or even a few weeks) and the entire world will be complaining, not merely the regions without singular favor. The old system made sense because ANet touted PvP as being a huge point of this game, and tbh, maxing titles makes a whole lot less sense than competing in tournaments in the Realms to appease the gods. -Auron 04:26, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Once again I refer to the point that it's PvP, rewarding PvE characters for absolutely nothing, they are unrelated and have no effect on eachother and shouldn't to begin with. PvP players still have their recognition and PvE players can now go into UW and FoW at more varied/often times. As far as PvP being the biggest part, you're telling me they spent millions on extra game content, just for PvP to overrun it? PvE has always been a big part of GW.
As far as the titles go, it makes perfect sense, being that the gods give favor based on achievements, obtaining a rank of any kind, especially the highest possible rank is definitely an achievement. Giving a reason or a valid argument against my original comment would perhaps be slightly constructive, why it "sucks" may actually get some feedback to Anet being that many of the staff read the comments. Txzeenath 04:37, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Favor based on titles makes zero sense. From the lore perpective, why would the gods care about some random person killing stuff from wurms in hard mode compared to people competing in the realms? -Auron 04:39, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Hey, the gods are frickle : D There's a guy in the Desolation telling how Dwayna told Grenth to not accept his spirit into the Underworld because he did a minor thing to anger her. But anyway, I think the biggest advantage of the current favor system is how it removes the competition between the real world areas - now you won't see people saying "---- Europe!" on the American districts of the Temple of Ages, now Japan will be able to get access to FoW and the UW more regularly, and so on. We went from the world fighting against itself to the entire player base helping itself in order to earn favor. Erasculio 04:44, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Agreed, now the game allows a much larger percentage of it's global community to enjoy the game without prejudice. Creating tension between communities based on geological status is simply getting old, and this is a great way to remind us all that we are GW Players, no matter what. Laura Brinklow LB 04:51, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Global favor is a good thing. Decoupling favor from HA is an okay thing as well -- no one who could take Halls did so for favor to begin with. The problem is many of those titles are rarely maxed; the PvP titles listed have never been maxed, as far as I know. I doubt some of them (such as Gamer) ever will be, even after two years. Plus, once GW2 comes out (or sooner) the game is going to become depopulated. Point is, there ought to be another way to help drag favor along, such as saccing Sigils (or whatever).--Drekmonger 04:59, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Well.. I dont mind this too too much... I mean I can totaly understand the PvP doing the work for the PvE peeps that play... Think about it... A PvP player works hard all day just so that the PvE 55HP Monk sitting in ToA can jump in as soon as the favor switchs over. However... it is annoying has heck to play from 8am to 8pm... and America never has the favor once... the whole time I play, Europe always has it. I know some Americans that have changed their accounts to Europe because of this. So in this case... it helps with that balence. I'd give it a chance for a while guys to see what happens. - SabreWolf, Clan Heavy Metal

Yes Overall rating of this update Yes[edit]

I find it good. For me, this is all ups, no downs. My fav is the Glyph of Elemental Power because I use it in my build all the time. It's one of my key skills ;).--§ Eloc § 05:40, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Favor was trashed and hexes weren't, but it's a step in the right direction. -Auron 05:51, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Rits have been completely destroyed though. My poor Rit..only level 14, and now...stillborn. I guess she's a storage mule now... Arshay Duskbrow 07:46, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Favor wasn't trashed. It makes it more fair for each region, if you really want favour, go work on a title or something :P.--§ Eloc § 15:44, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Enchanted Haste[edit]

mmmm, I noticed that after I made a comment on the Offical Wiki on how Enchanted Haste was exactly like GW:EN's Signet of Mystic Speed skill... they lowered the recharge to under the duration of the skill... well for you bonder monks... you only need one running skill now and this is it.... unless until GW:EN comes out - SabreWolf, Clan Heavy Metal
