We've been Smiter's Boon'd! Arshay Duskbrow 07:35, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

At least Anet has a sense of humor and takes shit in stride. ^_# 07:51, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
hey smiter's boon acually counters it.....somewhat--BobbyT User Talk: BobbyT 13:46, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
This skill make me lol, well everything in the ending had humor,ex. Blimm with her asuracake and bookahcake and the cake is a lie Tech Wolf 14:23, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
Isn't Blimm a "he"? :P And when I first read this skill description, I was wondering where the balance part was (I was expecting something more like Grenth's Balance or Lyssa's Balance), then I read this talk page... That's just freaking hilarious (I wonder if Izzy got mad?). -- Konig/talk 20:14, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
I hope he's mad and I hope he's so mad that he stays the hell out of GW2. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 2.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 22:27, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Izzy nerfed Smither's Boon by changing energy to 25 and recharge to 90 seconds, this skill does same :D User Demonical Monk av.png Demonical Monk 14:38, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Poor taste[edit]

I'm really disappointed that Smiter's Boon was an obvious fuck up on your part and all you care to do is joke about and leave your game with an absurdly over-nerfed skill. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 2.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 02:45, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

I agree because Guild Wars is serious business especially when talking about one skill out of the hundreds in the game99.1.41.126 16:53, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. This skill is rubbing salt into the wounds of anyone who understands what it refers to and what Izzy did. Failing at skill balance and joking about it is poor taste. 114.78.8.119 17:15, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Seriously, it's just a joke. I don't know why you're so sore over Smiter's Boon being killed. It was a bad skill, a quick fix is acceptable (even the "over-the-topness" of the nerf itself was somewhat humorous). Do you think it will suddenly be useful once they do actually put it in the game? No, it will probably be another useless Smiting Prayers skill, just added to the pile of uselessness. The kill was not a "fail," it was probably the only update that really did exactly what they intended it to do. -~=Ϛρѧякγ User Sparky, the Tainted guided sig.png (τѧιк) 19:58, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
Please stop kidding yourselves. The way it was nerfed is not a quick-fix, it was "lol i don't give a fuck just shut up". And it isn't just one skill out of hundreds, it is the one glaring mark of bad game design policy that continuously makes them look worse with every day it remains like this. Honestly, I don't even care if it becomes just another underused smiting prayer, that's better than this... really, how can you even deny it? And how is being humorous skill a good enough excuse for Izzy or whoever to maim a skill and then leave it there to bleed all over your carpet and furniture? I mean, that couch was really expensive. Please stop bleeding all over my couch! Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 2.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 22:24, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
I doubt that you know what they were intending, Alice. For all you know, they thought the skill was stupid and wanted to take it out of the game, so instead of literally taking it out of the game, they made it useless and never bothered changing it. That would be a quick-fix - note: quick-fix doesn't always means it will be better balanced. You really need to stop PMSing, because it is getting annoying (no that's not a personal attack, I'm merely meaning that you need to stop complaining about everything, because half the time - and all the time recently - that's all I see you do in your comments. If you hate GW that much, stop playing. If you don't, stop complaining). -- Konig/talk 22:29, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
No one is asking for it to be better balanced. This is like giving scythes 1-2 damage and 10 second attack speed because one of the flavors of the month was too powerful and then just leaving it that way instead of caring about your game and trying to come up with a better idea or any idea for that matter, as long as it's an idea and not this. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 2.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 22:32, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
If Arenanet wants to have their cheap jokes at themselves, then let them. They're not going to care what you think about it, they think it's brilliant enough to bring into the game. 203.173.133.182 22:44, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Poor example Sven, seeing how Smiter's Boon isn't a mandatory thing whereas scythes are. Smiter's Boon is like the old Shadow Form, or the old Ursan. Only used in gimmicks. -- Konig/talk 22:45, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
I think Alice's point about Smiter's Boon is not that it didn't need a nerf, but they actually didn't care about the skill when they nerfed it. They could have made it a duplicate of an already balanced skill in the game but instead they just half assed it and deliberately made it ridiculous. There would have been little to no thought/effort required to change it to something remotely usable (like a duplicate of other smiting skills) but instead they just gave up. Some people (and this varies between people) find that kind of work ethic a poor reflection on the person regardless of how significant the loss of a single skill is. The same person might not appreciate a joke about said work ethic. It doesn't mean Alice is right or wrong, just that Alice doesn't appreciate how they went about this situation. You can criticise Alice for having an opinion all you want, but all you are doing is complaining about someone complaining, kind of fruitless isn't it? This is one of those situations where you need to realise this is the internet and people have opinions and different values that are not the same as yours, it's not something you have to "win".114.78.8.119 22:47, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
Poor example. Shadow Form and Ursan were not maimed and raped. You can still actually use them, they are viable on some level. If you have Smiter's Boon on your bar you will be doing nothing, literally. Because the skill was maimed and raped. I'm aware that their intention may have been to remove the skill from the game, however it can't be done because of the PvP/PvE split. The scythe example demonstrates on a clearer scale how they are leaving their game. The way they handled this skill is so bizarre, especially considering in the past they've been able to handle terrible skills like this, instead of number tweaks you just rewrite the skill with a new functionality. Don't tell me they don't have enough time to care about it, because they have enough time to rebalance/rewrite the skill sets of entire professions and I don't think anyone will notice or care an extra day or week of brainstorming to heal up this sore instead of letting it just sit there and rot. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 2.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 22:58, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
Actually, my example wasn't poor because I wasn't talking about what happened to it, I was talking about what it does. I'm sure the only people who would of complained about Ursan and SF getting a similar nerf that Smiter's Boon got would be those who always used it. Which I might happen to guess is why you're upset over Boon. Honestly, one skill is not a big deal. Now, if they were to do that to more skills, then it would become an issue. Besides, next time the live team focuses on monks (as they only focus on one profession at a time along with any major issues - which Smiter's Boon is not) they may make Smiter's Boon one of the priorities. If I'm remembering correctly, since they did the one-topic-focusing (which started after Izzy left GW1 balancing to Linsey on a full scale), they haven't focused on monks (the only time they really focused on monks was for farming, and Smiter's Boon isn't used for that). -- Konig/talk 00:29, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
The skill was killed because they couldn't think of anything that made sense, given the name, that wasn't just going to make another OP gimmick. Do you have a solution to this supposedly horrid rotting corpse, Aliceandsven? If you don't have an opinion on how to fix the problem, then you can't complain about it. Smiter's Boon isn't even a big problem, they safely removed it from play, rather than changing it to some bad idea (like "+X damage for your Smiting Prayers"), and it is currently not causing any balance issues. -~=Ϛρѧякγ User Sparky, the Tainted guided sig.png (τѧιк) 01:09, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
"Which I might happen to guess is why you're upset over Boon." Nope. I've played TA maybe three times in my life, I'm not hardcore enough for HA or GvG, and either of those three times weren't spent trying to run whatever the gimmick was. The complaint is about bad policy. And I really don't need an idea for the skill, how hard is it to think of something that isn't "for 3 seconds lololol you're bad", but go ahead and keep telling me when I'm not allowed to talk, I'll certainly listen. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 2.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 03:47, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Although Izzy was infamous for his pish balancing skills, at least at times he realised that it was better for the metagame to pretty much remove a skill for the time being than take longer to try and balance it. It's a bit sad they never revisited it but I would rather it be gone than what it was at it's previous form in pvp. --Frosty User Frosty Frostcharge sig.jpg 11:09, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, it has been nearly 2 years since the skill was nuked. What is keeping the current balancing team to bring it back in some form? Just like, what is keeping them from reading feedback from the people who know what they are talking about and balance the game (it is their job anyway). Koda User Koda Kumi UT.jpeg Kumi 15:17, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
Although Smiter's Boon is so obviously bad that you should never use it, there are many, many skills so terrible that you should never use them. Just because Smiter's Boon is the worst doesn't mean that it needs to take highest priority, they are all shit. They've been power creeping for some time now, so they are clearly working on making shitty skills viable and are just not up to this one yet. Misery 15:45, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
But the point is, the balancing team is not doing their job and they are joking about it. Like they are saying "lolololol we got your money you little dumbshits now you gotta play this crappy game with bad PvP AND PvE! Better go pay for Aion if you want a real game before we fuck that up too." Koda User Koda Kumi UT.jpeg Kumi 14:58, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure the last couple of updates did make unused skills suddenly become used, so if that is the basis of your complaint (Smiter's Boon being unusable), then your complaint is without basis. I'm perfectly happy with Smiter's Boon in its current state, I dislike them making unused skills usable. Misery 15:43, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
Here's what I think, Smiter's Boon might have gotten quite the famous nerf in PvP, but I really don't see why it couldn't of gotten something similar to alot of split skills; one example of this is the Soul Reaping skill Masochism. That skill would've made some death hexes fucking crazy in Hexway teams, but no; instead, it's a energy buff for health sacrificers. Why couldn't Anet just make a reasonable split in PvP like Masochism? I mean, c'mon. Smiter's Boon. You could make it a energy skill, or possible an additional support utility skill within the Smiting/Divine line. What I'm trying to get at is that the skill balancing team for this game is generally doing a okay job, it's difficult in the perspective of a developer to learn and view from a viewpoint of a actual gamer. All I'm saying is that there is always room for creativity and this skill proves that lack of it. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.70.231.222 (talk).

who cares? you pick the dumbest shit to moan about, alice. -Auron 11:52, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Auron what exactly made you so mad about this discussion? Also is it really that hard to see the difference between the typical unused, shitty skill and Smiter's Boon, Misery? Yes there are lots of shitty skills. But Smiter's Boon is one-of-it's-kind. It goes above and beyond any other shitty skill in the game. The complaint isn't that it's unused. I wouldn't mind it being unused like other skills as long as it's not what it is currently, humiliatingly and ridiculously nerfed. Also wasn't this a TA gimmick? TA doesn't even exist anymore... Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 2.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 21:27, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Er, no, this was run in every PvP format and most of PvE as well. Monks that put out more damage than eles while removing hexes, conditions and protting were pretty good. They removed this skill from play because they didn't like how it was designed. They want to avoid making it even remotely viable with its current purpose, so before they could buff it to bring it back into the realm of normal shittiness they would have to completely re-work it first. And in terms of shit they could be spending their time on, Smiter's Boon is about the last thing in the world that deserves attention.
The only thing that made me "mad" about this section (if you could call it that) is you pretending that ANet wasting their time on stupid bullshit like Smiter's Boon would do anything to help the game. -Auron 21:33, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Actually Aliceandsven, there is no difference between a pile of shit and and a pool of vomit. You don't want to use either of them in combat regardless of the fact that one stinks a bit more. Misery 07:36, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
