Quest influence[edit]

so when thsi is active, it just turns back the explorable areas as they used to be (outcasts, afflicted, ...)?--Dark Shadows Raider 20:22, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Yup, it makes all the zones turn back to their pre-WoC spawns. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 20:27, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
Something we should probably note is what happens if you A) complete this quest and take the reward, and B) Desire to try WoC again after taking this quest. Daddicus 20:30, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
(A) There is no rewards and (B) If you want to continue with WoC, just abandon this quest from your log.--71.185.41.90 00:39, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Requirements[edit]

My character has done a few WoC quests but is unable to pick this quest up. What are the requirements for picking it up? --Combatter 20:47, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

finishing the WoC completely is my guess... I'll confirm when I finish everything Ocren 22:08, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
You don't have to complete everything. I have tested the following
I speculate that you need to have finished your current cycle (nm or HM) of cleansing quests (taking you up to Intercepting the Am Fah). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:31, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
Ok, I've confirmed that completing Cleansing Morostav Trail (nm) allows you to take Memories, even if you started the HM sequence. (However, given an apparent tendency to make simple mechanisms complex, people might want to double check other possible scenarios.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:07, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
Zack Nickerson confirmed that the requirement for taking this quest is completion of Cleansing Morostav Trail here. 206.212.44.98 02:25, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
Clearly, it's a reasonable piece of lore that you cannot return to pre-cleansing status until you've completed the cleansing, but it's an annoying mechanic especially since there is no way to learn about this requirement without having found the wiki article or Zack's post. It would have been helpful for ANet to have included some hints in the release notes. (206: thanks for the link.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 11:02, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Active Quest[edit]

Is it worth mentioning that, if this is made your active quest, on the map the name of the area you are in (town or explorable) will change to green?--Titania La Fey 11:18, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

That's interesting behaviour - worth a mention I would say. --Combatter 12:07, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
I was about to mention that... 2 days too late. I think it's a bug --MageUser MageMontu sig.pngMontu 18:24, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
Maybe not a bug per se. Who's to say that is wrong? Added as an anomaly instead. Robdalf 23:27, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

What is restored/what not[edit]

I did some testing using Memories of Purity to restore default spawns. The toons included a pre-Imperial Sanctum character, one that had completed WoC, one that had finished only the first 7 quests (minimum eligibility for Memories), and a foreign toon that hadn't left Shing Jea. The results didn't vary from the general case:

  • Newbie + WoC without Memories: WoC-related spawns.
  • Newbie + WoC with Memories: non-WoC spawns
    • Exception: in areas affected by an active WoC quest, you get the relevant quest spawns.

The good news is you can complete the storyline without adding/dropping Memories just in case you might team up with someone who hasn't started. The bad news is that you still have to remember to drop other active WoC-quests if you are heading into certain zones. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:22, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

I've done additional testing and the situation is more annoying and complicated than above. You can end up with WoC and non-WoC spawns in certain circumstances.
  • If Memories is active and you are attempting a WoC Quest in an area with Afflicted, you will get both the WoC quest spawns (overrides Memories) and the pre-WoC Afflicted. e.g. during Vassal States.
  • Similarly, you can get old school Am Fah/Brotherhood foes in other areas. e.g. during There Goes the Neighborhood.
Naturally, with these rules, if you wander an area (or VQ it) while a WoC quest is active, you'll make your work more difficult.
So, the rules of thumb are:
  • Drop Memories before starting any new WoC task, to avoid any risk of extra spawns.
  • Drop any active WoC quests (nm/HM as appropriate) while adding Memories, in case you enter the area where the quest is active.
There are more exceptions than not, but why take the chance? – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:40, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

VQing[edit]

Hi, ever since WoC, I've noticed that a few areas that my Tyrian character had definitely VQed were no longer listen as vanquished. Zen Daijun was a place I had definitely vanquished - it was no longer listed. The other day, I vanquished Boreas Seabed - it is not listed as being VQed for either of us. Is it because I have this quest in my log? Saberhagen (not logged in), March 17th, 12:04

It's possible that the game considers the WoC Zen Daijun as a different location from Zen Daijun and/or from Zen Daijun/Memories. What you might want to check is what happens to your Canthan Vanquisher total (in your hero panel) when you toggle Memories on/off. I would imagine the number doesn't change. In other words, you haven't lost your vanquish, only the icon on the map that makes it easy to determine what you have already done. Annoying, but another good reason to print out a list and check them off as you go through. (I always miss a zone unless I do this.)
I'll do some testing with this too (unfortunately, I don't have a Tyrian who has areas left to VQ, so it won't be a comparable test.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:44, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
its because of the. Update. There is a note I read somewhere that says it's an okay bug. Just don't remember where I read it though. Ocren 21:33, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
