All gone now... Arduinna 15:54, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Are you referring to the 40,000 minis being 'all gone'? or the web page itself? --Thervold 16:13, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
The Miniatures, only the first 40,000 people who downloaded the magazine were given the option to claim a free mini. Which is kinda annoying because this means that there might not be many in-game because the magazine isn't just for Guild Wars players but for everyone. --Alien User Alien Sig.png 16:24, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I see what you mean. I finally managed to get through the lag to download the magazine, and the supposed box you're supposed to fill out to register for the mini is empty :( --Thervold 16:56, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I wouldn't worry too much! You and me are in the same boat, I didn't get one either. ;( But i'm sure Anet will give more of them away sometime soon! :D --Alien User Alien Sig.png 17:03, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
After lagging through that site for hours, I finally got mine. It's pretty neat. -Auron 17:16, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
They still have some mini pets, I got mine after the first "They're all gone" message (I guess they lied so people would stop hammering their servers : D). If you cannot see the box in which we're supposed to register, update your Adobe Reader - I got that same problem with Adobe 7, but it was fixed with Adobe 8. Erasculio 17:29, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Still doesn't show, but I see that the box is a Flash plugin so it might not play not play if it's trying to contact the hammered servers. Also, if you don't want to sit around waiting for the pages to load just to get a download link to click the direct URL for the PDF is [1]. --Valshia 17:45, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

I just got mine as well.. perhaps 15 minutes ago.. What happened was I used FireFox to open up the PDF NOT the pdf program.. and the form poped up.. :) I have Adobe 6. Hope that helped! ♥LadyTemp♥ 17:46, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Firefox users: You need the IE version of Flash 9 player to show the registration box. You'll need to load Internet Explorer (...shudder...) and go to Adobe's flash page. Click on the line in the box on the final download page and say yes, please install. --Valshia 17:59, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
iv'e downloaded it twice now bu each time i open the file it says "There was an error opening the document, the file is damaged and could not be repaired." does anyone know how i can fix this? ;P --Alien User Alien Sig.png 18:45, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Valshia, I finally got it to work. Alien, make sure you downloaded the entire document, it's 38.6MB. It also took me a few reloads with IE for it to notice the flash player for some strange reason, and once the form appeared, it took three tries before the submission finally made it through successfully. --Thervold 19:14, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Valshia, worked for me too. Chriskang 19:47, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

I can't even get the freaking form to show up...Hyper Cutter 19:36, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Now I finally did....Hyper Cutter 20:09, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
For some reason my computer begins to download, fine. But then it will get to about 1mb then say it is finished. Anyone else had this problem or know a way of fixing it??? --Alien User Alien Sig.png 19:57, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I got mine as well. I try all but i couldn't get box visible. So i email to stuff and they send me code in email.(Jope12 11:21, 3 November 2007 (UTC))

Here's a direct link for everyone like me that can't get the website to display properly: [2]. Also, I downloaded the new version of Adobe Flash Player in IE and opened the pdf in IE. It took me two tries to get the form to submit. My confirmation email (w/ access key) took less than 5 minutes. - User HeWhoIsPale sig.PNG HeWhoIsPale 20:04, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Same, but now it says my code is used :(((

I can download the mag and enter my details fine, but it just repeatedly says "Ooops... that didn't go quite to plan. Please try again". So annoying. 86.27.63.8 00:45, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

That means they ran out.
No. I got Ceratodons, LONG after people told me they ran out - one just now while I am posting this. Their server is busted, it rarely works, and if it works you might get an already used code, as did some of my friends.--Longasc 05:06, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm actually kinda pissed that ArenaNet chose such an obviously incapable website to handle their promotion. I mean, it kinda comes down to whoever hammers away at the website and gets a little bit lucky, doesnt it? Hmm...139.147.159.223 05:43, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

October 2007 (UTC)

Yes! Finally got mine! :D I downloaded it fairly early in the morning and it downloaded much faster than usual, so I had no problem downloading the full mag. --Alien User Alien Sig.png 06:51, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
I used the torrent file for the mag. The link to get the minature is generated in the magazine, so doesn't matter where you get the pdf from. I JUST got mine so they must have some left over. Dancing Gnome 16:07, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Just got an email from the magazine with a code because mine was a dupe. Props to their speedy response. -elviondale (tahlk) 16:15, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Here it is, 11PM on Friday the 19th, and I still got a minipet. The 40k quota has not been reached yet? - Lord Xivor 03:06, 20 October 2007 (UTC) 14:00 GMT+2 October 20th, still got one :D:D ~~Brodly 12:01, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Proven Method[edit]

This worked for me and several guidies.

  1. Download the pdf (by download, I mean save to hard drive)
  2. Make sure the latest version of Flash Player is installed
  3. Open with Adobe Reader 8 (mine is 8.1.0)
  4. Allow the scripts and media to do what they want when prompted, EXCEPT do not go to full screen mode
  5. Go to Edit > Preferences > Trust Manager
  6. Check 'Allow external content'
  7. Click Change Settings, check Allow all web sites (revert this after you're done)
  8. Click the lower right graphic to navigate to the right page
  9. Enter your information and submit (might take several tries, but is confirmed to work- if supply hasn't run out)
  10. Site seems to check per IP address, so submitting multiple emails will not work on the same IP

Several people I've talked to have reported keys already being in use. The best course of action is to email the address provided and hope for the best. -elviondale (tahlk) 07:01, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't think the site does check IP addresses - my fiancée and I both got one from the same computer over the same connection. We had to submit four e-mails to get two working codes between us, but in the end it did work. --NieA7 07:59, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Me and my girlfriend both tried, on two separate computers, but on the same router/network, but could only get one code. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 19:00, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
It might be a breadcrumb-type thing left on the computer, but IP-based seems more plausible. I just want to iterate that the about procedure is not necessarily the only way to do things- its just what I did and it worked -elviondale (tahlk) 21:31, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
It all seems moot now anyway, haven't they run out? --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 21:53, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
They probably have, however they seem to be getting them for people who have had problems via email, a few people i know emailed them this afternoon and got their pets Fall 22:00, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Nope, I just got mine a few minutes ago :D. I wonder if they have more than they claim, just to get people to rush in and DL. ;) ~ User PaeSig.gif | Pae - Talk | 22:00, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
I just got mine today. Worked real easy. Maybe they still have more available. It's nuts:D Dervish-tango-icon-20.pngDevi talk 22:51, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
I just got mine as I post this, so either there wasn't actually a 40k limit, or... I dunno. No troubles at all either, easy as pie. --onoes! Mafaraxas 01:30, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
I personally find it funny that they "didn't expect this" and "we need 50x the bandwith we reserved for the magazine". I thought it was pretty obvious by now that minipets and free stuff are hot, so one could easily predict that this was gonna happen. I remeber when Nightfall came out, it had Varesh minis all over the place. If that many people are willing to pay $20 for a minipet, then it shoudl be easy to tell what happens when a free minipet is offered. I think Anet has a nice business oppertunity here. ^^ Nicky Silverstar 07:20, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Just got mine this morning, definatly not a limit I'd say, but I could be wrong.Zarkir Darkslayer 07:52 19 October 2007
Got mine a few mins ago - yeah, prolly not actually a limit if you follow the steps above^^--121.127.192.75 13:25, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
I didn't follow any of those steps; I just downloaded the magazine and filled out the form and got my email. anyways. --onoes! Mafaraxas 15:18, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

New Minipets?[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

There are a couple of new mini pets in the game. But no one will say how they got them. Are they magazine/competition rewards? or are they available in game? I have attached a link with the relevant thread on a forum.

New Mini Thread

Thanks --Coridan 13:32, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks to Fourth Variety in GWO: the mini pet is from here, an online magazine. It's free, but the mini pet is limited. Erasculio 13:50, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Whaaat??? Barinthus 14:11, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Just got mine they are sooo cute! Tell the team nice job on that one Gaile :D Fall 14:14, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I noticed you said a "couple" I read all the posts and really only see the one, did you have another link? Fall 14:47, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Aaaand, that's it, the mini pets are gone : P Players were shut out of the site since it couldn't handle the load of players trying to get their own pets, and when it began to work again, the 40k pets were already gone. Oh well, congrats to those who did get one : ) Erasculio 15:51, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes, another new minipet, another limited number and a new released bomb of anger from the community. Maybe reconsider that Marketing team for once.. Especially concerning mini's. -- User Karuro Icon.png Karuro 15:54, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Huh, apparently they got more mini pets available now. Those who still want one, go to the website, now it's working. Erasculio 17:18, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I wouldn't call it "working" yet, poor gamerzines in advertenly called DoS on themselves I wonder if they will release the statistics of just how many people got it afterwards and their Bandwidth bills. Are we positive Anet doesn't just promote magazines using GW as excuse ? =) Biz 17:50, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

(Reset indent) We're observing quite a number of challenges so far. The server is getting hit, hard, and can't handle the traffic. The page requires IE, and an IE upgrade of Flash, plus Adobe Reader 8.0. People may find they don't have all those versions or that even with those versions, they may find that something fails. I know this personally because I've been having failures to download since this morning. (No, I still don't have the little guy. :-/ ) There are concerns about duplicates keys, and about people getting multiple keys, thus preventing others from getting one at all. Some of these are small matters, some are more significant. I've reported various issues to the NCsoft Europe Marketing Team, as well as the ArenaNet Marketing Team, so that they're aware of some of the challenges and the concerns. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 23:13, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

That is good news. I have started to lose hope that I would get a new mini-pet of my very own after receiving Code 103 (Access Key in Use) when I attempted to add the access key I received in my inbox. I was consoling myself that wasn't that big a loss, because I found the magazine to be quite nice especially considering that it's free. I've sent them an email at guild-wars-pet at gamerzines.com as well to inform them of the issue, and I completely understand why they haven't been able to get back to me as yet. A lot of devoted Guild Wars players go gaga over mini-pets =) Svartalve User Svartalve.png 00:46, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm still trying to have my registration/sign-up go through. I finally got the PDF to work right (Issues with Adobe Reader 8) and now it seems that the Gamezines servers are still DoS. I'd hope that they'll get back up and resume giving these out. Yukiko User Yukiko Sig.png 01:44, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
*sigh* ive been at it now for 3 hours, just keeps telling me "opppssss..." -- Salome 02:00, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
It took a while for me, so when I did finally get the PDF downloaded, I uploaded it to a server and linked my guildies to it. I don't mean to circumvent any ToS's that might have come into play, but it took the load off their servers in a minute way. They planned for 40,000, so multiply that by 40mb and thats what sort of bandwidth they're looking at this month. Ouch. 1.5TB btw- just for that file alone. My mini is already in use >.< ... have an email in to them, hope I can still get one. -elviondale (tahlk) 02:44, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
I've managed to receive a key - but have no way to verify it is unique, and probably won't for some time. It'll probably be a dud. :) If their server is crashing due to load their program could be loosing state? --Aspectacle 03:06, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Likewise. It's giving me a 103 error when it was able to send me my own code. Am I still part of the lucky people who'll get it eventually or will I lose out on this one too? Renin 03:18, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Same error here, the game says the key is alreay in use... I've written at the provided address but the mail bounced back to me several hours later... Don't know what to do to get my mini, :( A friend of mine from Quebec could get his miniature though. Jaxom 05:30, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
You all realize that each PDF is unique and will NOT issue more than one mini, even if you use two different names and email addresses, right? So, the only way to get the mini is to download your own unique copy (i.e. not one that someone has uploaded to their own server) of the magazine and use that to register. HTH. Kokuou 05:40, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
I do not want to be rude, but you DO realize that I have downloaded my very own PDF, that I got an email saying that the code sent to me was specifically generated for my request and my own email adress and for my very own usage only but that when I try put the code in my account the game sayd "Access key already in use!" (based on the French message). Jaxom 05:44, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
No, no, I just said that because apparently people have been uploading their own copy to a server for their friends, but that probably won't work. If you've got your own code with your own copy of the PDF, then definitely let them know that someone (EVIL) stole your code! :D Kokuou 06:48, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
The site is up and working again as of now and i am now the proud owner of a new minipet -- Salome 11:41, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Actually how it works is that each IP address is allowed ONE email address for automatic validation via the pdf. You can share the PDF with other friends to spare the gamerzines bandwidth. As you are doing them a small favor right now. If someone in the same house attempts to use another PDF or the same one it will be rejected because one email address is already used for that IP which represents the cable modem or dsl connection from the WAN side of things. So unique email or not... only the first email address will work to a specific IP address and you will have to follow what the rejection msg says from the form in the PDF to obtain another for your home if you have another GW account that plays within your home network. Hope that clears things up. Chik En 23:35, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Users whose ISPs use transparent proxies may have trouble registering, because to the internet, only the IP of the proxy server is exposed. They will have to send an email to the mag. Mocax 05:38, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Fortunately, my girlfriend got her mini at her parent's house, after it became clear that we couldn't get one at home (we use a router, but have different accounts. Nicky Silverstar 08:48, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
