Venting my frustration - THIS MISSION IS SO ANNOYING FOR GETTING CARTOGRAPHERS! --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:TigerWolf (talk).

Indeed. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 06:11, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

This mission is BEYOND hateful. It is teh suk. 74.166.44.177 01:49, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Dark Aidget

Actually... once you figure out how it is you're supposed to use the Junundu, this mission becomes quite easy to get to 60 points. The difficulty lies in mastering the timing and distances needed to obtain a high score. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 06:41, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

I hate ta tell ya...[edit]

... but this is a very easy things to do if you know what your doing. I got 3 Ancient armor remnants from this on one time ( keep in mind i got 100 points )--Treesbyty 11:37, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Come on, don't hate. Tell me :P -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 15:01, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Bug?[edit]

Is it that I really suck at this mission or was this mission changed? Killing Greater Infestations does not seem to get me Spirit Form. Also, while I can still damage the Maddened Spirits using blood magic, reducing them to 0 health will have them suddenly regain full health, making it impossible to kill them. I'm reduced to running around in circles killing Infestations. Is there's nothing wrong with the mission, I hope someone can tell how exactly does one get Spirit Form applied. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 09:11, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Tried using the Wurm Spoor? :P Arcane Archer 06:21, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
You need to be inside a wurm to kill Maddened Spirits? I think you can no longer kill Maddened Spirits using Blood Magic skills. Regardless, I'm not seeing any Spirit Form being applied on my character after killing a Greater Infestation. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 04:19, 1 September 2008 (UTC

Mapping the mission area[edit]

If Your mapping the area, just get 15 points, go to the unlocked area, map it, and resign. thats the easiest way imo. just rinse and repeat this tactic, don't bother with the spirits, the junudu IMS will outrun them. 67.86.84.167 20:05, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

In that manner, wouldn't you be missing on three other locked areas? -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 01:48, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
The gates are opend randomly so you will not keep going to the same area. Fox007 User:Fox007 16:34, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

I entered this area seven times, the same gate opened all seven times...what gives?

I've been doing this method for 2 hours, and the North West gate has opened a total of 0 times. It's the ONLY area I still need for Cartographer, and the only way I have been able to get in is through another area by getting 30-45 points. There simply isn't enough time for me to kill a Greater Infestation/Maddened Spirit in one area and get to one in the other area that has just opened before a Maddened Spirit tracks me down. Any tips would be appreciated because this is driving me mad. 86.150.24.46 00:30, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Multiple Maddened Spirits[edit]

At one time I had 3 maddened spirits chasing me at once, I couldn't find a greater infestation so all I was doing was running and tunneling to stay alive. I finally found one but they killed me from 2800-some health in a few seconds.

It seems to me that the trick to this challenge mission is mastering a couple simple skill chains. Starting out, use a siege or bite on a greater infestation and then hit them three times. The fourth time will kill it and build up enough adrenaline to use the smash. While you wait for the maddened spirits, destroy the infestations, and keep the greater infestations health down. When the maddened spirit appears, kill the greater infestation, and use siege, smash, and bit, to kill it and get a health boost. Move on to the next greater infestation and repeat until the spirits come too fast to stop. Then run around and look for lost souls (I'm sure you have lots of good ways to deal with these), using tunnel as often as possible and bite on the infestations to stay ahead of the maddened spirits and keep your health up. When you build up enough of a safety buffer, use feast after bite, and if you get blinding breath, then kill a greater infestation, and use it to destroy all of the maddened spirit buildup. Hope that helps ;) Kormon Balser 02:54, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Red Rock Candy[edit]

first time in this mission i used a Red Rock Candy and was able to explore most of it and get enough armor for all my heros. with texmod someone could prolly explore it all in one go 24.2.13.241 13:30, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Where do I see how many points I have?[edit]

I don't see my score displayed anywhere... - Brian Kendig 03:51, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

the formulas[edit]

I may just be bad at maths, but surely 2000x / 4y is just 500x / y ? 90.198.74.33 14:09, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Pacman[edit]

I swear to god this is Pacman related. The maddened spirits would be the ghosts, and the Greater Infestation would be the powerup that gives you the ability eat/kill ghosts. I'm sure. --77.160.189.74 21:13, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

It's already in the trivia. Shadow Runner 21:26, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Minimum score required for armor remnants to drop?[edit]

I've read on another site that there is a minimum score of 60 to reach before the maddened spirits can drop the armor remnants. Is this true? I'm not very good at this mission, I seldom hit 60 points, I've killed more than a hundred spirits by now, and have got no armor so far....--74.13.149.60 03:53, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

I just got one at 56 points, so 60 minimum isn't true. Try using a Red Rock Candy .. It will make it a lot easier. --Manassas User Manassas Mannysig.png 22:32, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
it is all luck, but there does seem to be some merit to a possible minimum, because I tried farming the first few spirits 30+ times and never gotten a drop. OTOH, I've gotten over 300 points on one run, hundreds on others, and have yet to get a remnant. Very irritating. --Falseprophet 01:41, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

I just did it for the first time. First go got 14 points and lost with 0. Second go I got 85 and got 6 pieces. 2 of them were definitely before 30 points, so it's just random.Bobius 22:41, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

As of July 2011, you do need at least 60 points before any will drop. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kalarian (talk • contribs) at 02:41, 30 July 2011 (UTC).
I am very, very skeptical of this. (1) Why would ANet make things more difficult (a) without informing us about it and (b) since they have done in their power to make maxing HoM scores easier. (2) If it's true (that there's a min score)...then we should see confirming examples from dozens of people unable to to see pieces drop before a score of 60; that hasn't happened. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 05:27, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
The more likely explanation is that, like most things, the drops are random and, if you play with 7 heroes, you are going to see peak periods (lots of drops) and troughs (few or none). Any single one of us isn't going to run this enough times to see the underlying patterns. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 05:27, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
'As of blah blah blah, you need blah to get blah to drop'. That's fine and dandy and all, but mind explaining why I just got an ancient armor piece at 30ish points? Please cite your proof.. Kozume 02:54, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
'Please cite your proof.' I like how you deliver no proof of your own claim but demand proof of others. I have done this mission MANY times and have never even once got armor remnants to drop below 60 points. I realise this is anecdotal evidence at best and I can't offer any certainty one way or another, but don't just go disregarding other people's experiences without giving any proof of your own. 77.162.186.231

Is it confirmed whether or not the scoring system influences the spawn rate of Maddened Spirits (or possibly even drop rate)?--92.6.252.157 03:10, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

I don't think it can be: I went in maybe a month ago with a toon that had never been there before. He got 3, and I'm not sure I've ever scored over 100. Next trip (with still another toon) I got 5 with a score in the 80s. The next 3 trips, though, I got zero, so it seems "random" is the best explanation.
Further, I know for sure I've gotten one on the very first greater infestation I killed in a trip (score at most 8-10 at the time), because I was wondering whether I should keep going and get more, or quit because I only needed one. (I stayed, but didn't get any more. :( )
By the way, it can't really be score related, because you score a lot fewer points farming for armor than when you're trying to score high. Daddicus 00:15, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

cartography title[edit]

This is where i aquired the last bit of area to gain cartography title. This was a frustrating area, but keep at it, you need most of this area for title. btw, summoning stones can be used here, though they are only a small help.(Jaxx Hammer)--173.16.56.248 04:29, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Actually, you need very little of this area for the title if you've obtained the 99.1% or so available in the rest of Elona. Be sure to edge-scrape the central start area of this mission before the foes spawn, and that'll get you to 99.6%. Then a single opened gate will net you another 0.4% or thereabouts (depends on the gate), which may be sufficient for your 100%. If you're still left at 99.9% after one gate, then barely entering the area behind a second gate should be quite enough for the title. [These were the numbers on one of my (Tyrian) characters a few minutes ago.] Morgaine 13:39, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
I think the break down is helpful info.
I took the liberty of removing the note related to 99.1% because no one I know left this bit until last, i.e. they encountered problems elsewhere and mapped this mission as completely as possible to reduce the amount of backtracking they needed to do. We can provide people with the contribution break-down and folks can decide what makes sense for them, based on the numbers. Incidentally, there's about 0.19% wiggle room in Elona (according to research done at Guild Wiki), not counting glitched areas or newbie island. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 12:23, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
I mapped this one last, I was at 99.6 before it, and I didn't need to completely map it. My character was non elonian, so didn't have isle of shekah, and had done all of the portal jumping possible. [i think I could have had 99.7 if I'd properly scraped some of the bits in the desolation.. ] File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 13:12, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Duration: Short?[edit]

Really? Players can spend hours here in one try. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 19:11, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Lost Souls don't drop Armor Remnants[edit]

I have confirmed this by killing lost souls for about 3 hours without a single drop. So I have updated that information. Also, if you are trying to get Cartographers for this zone, follow the instructions for killing the lost souls (which also nets the most points). Keep killing those souls and all of the sections will open up and you can run around in your wurm to your hearts content.

If you look at the talk pages here and at Guild Wiki, you will see several players stating they have killed lost souls and gotten drops. You will also see others stating that they have farmed for hours without receiving any drops at all.
It strikes me that any single player farming isn't seeing the entire picture and that there's a trigger/triggers that we aren't seeing. I think, therefore, it's premature to update the article. I'd like to see more reports from more people, especially from someone who regularly farms for armor pieces. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:52, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

HM[edit]

Lol just been playing this in HM for 30 mins thinking, why the hell do i fail at this XD XD Kraal FardaleUser Kraal Sig.png

Score didn't update?[edit]

I just scored 128, which is enough to make the daily table today. However, nothing resembling my name showed up in the day's leader board.

Any ideas what might have happened? Daddicus 14:40, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Never mind. There seems to be a short delay between scoring and posting it on the board. Daddicus 15:24, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Lost Souls dropping Remnants[edit]

I'm fairly sure I did just get one from a Lost Soul, but since it's not a drop there's no way I can really confirm this. SparksH (talk) 21:58, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
