Think something along the lines of 1 byte per item. Now, this is just an easy number, might be somewhat accurate, probably not. Let's say a weapon/armor/modifiable things are 3bytes(account for upgrades). So let's say the average player has all upgrades for the game(although they don't). So, we've got crafting storage = 36 bytes. Storage = 16*3*3=144bytes. Money Storage = 2 bytes. On the player = 7*3=21bytes. Player bags = 37*3=111bytes. player money 2bytes. This gives a grand total of 316bytes per char. Now, let's multiply that by 8, for multiple accounts(average player, more chars makes up for having fewer campaigns). 2.528mb per player. now we multiply that by 5million... = 12640000mb = 12640 gb = 12.64 tb. Ok, I'm guessing my marks may be a bit off, but they are realistic, if not low. However, using this [1] we can see a 15tb server (to run in house) has a nice little base cost of 10-15k.... Just think how much renting that amount has got to be?
Anyhow, just thought that might interest some people. Just seeing how that all spreads out. |
