- Meh, it's baiscally Vista with a few more bells and whisles, faster, more optimized, and much more stable. It's got a slightly different UI though. It's Vista v2.0 — Jon Lupen 02:57, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

- Um, Windows Vista is windows 7. The original project was windows 7, but they needed a gimmick so they just threw out windows vista. -- Halogod35 03:06, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- Actualy, Vista was the original project, Windows 7 was a result of the code for Vista being so sloppy and such a resource hog, as well as being buggy and unstable. — Jon Lupen 03:08, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, where's the source for this? xD My source is my brother. :o -- Halogod35 03:15, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- My source is Microsoft. Having trouble digging up the article or I would have linked you to it. — Jon Lupen 03:17, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Windows 7 is vista code. It has a new kernel that is MUCH more efficient then vista's. Essentially its Windows Vista that...actually works. Dominator Matrix 23:38, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- Quite so. If Vista can handle programs, applications, drivers, ect, then Windows 7 will handle it just fine, if not better. — Jon Lupen 23:40, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- Not so unfortunately. Some programs are already failing...unknown though, so there probably really old apps. Windows 7 can decode so many more formats then vista, and isn't a resource hog, no please mother may I (it can though IF you want to), Media Player Slim, less apps bundled, IE8 can be removed, 16GB install, clear taskbar, boot parallel so its faster. Its what vista should have been. Dominator Matrix 22:18, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- Not really. Windows 2000 was 5.0, XP was 5.1 (minor, only back end updates), vista was 6.0, and windows 7 is 6.1. Which means its not vista 2.0 but rather vista + .1 :P. (Hopefully this is not a trend of Microsoft to do large updates, then minor, as it would get really annoying). Dominator Matrix 00:47, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- To be technical about it, (which I normally am) yes. Here is hoping Microsoft remembers what they learned with Vista and Windows 7, and we don't have another Vista repeat with our next major OS. — Jon Lupen 01:11, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

- There are security holes in every OS, granted they are usually patched up as soon as they are found, but XP is no longer supported, so will have to fend for its self. Eventually, someone is going to find one (or more) in XP, and you'll soon have viruses that know how to get into your computer and past your anti-virus and protective software. I know what I'm doing out on the web, my machines are locked down like Fort Knox, and I've still gotten a virus or two on one of them (running XP still). It's bad practice to run an unsupported OS for too long, you'll quickly hit the point where all your vital software no longer supports your OS, driver's won't install for it, ect. — Jon Lupen 18:50, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know, I just pirate the things I need and save them on an install archive cd, it works for me. -- Halogod35 12:00, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Shard and I were thinking about hosting a Diablo 2 night for some of the people here on the wiki to join and kinda get to meet us. Knowing your addiction as I do, perhaps this is a dangerous offer?--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 22:22, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- Ha, just a tad. Given time and effort, I've learned to keep things under wraps. The main issue is time though, when being the big question. I'm lucky to find time to wiki as in-frequently as I do during the week, but the weekends are a lot more open. Keep me posted, I'll see if I can pull something together. Oh, and I'll be free game for pretty much anything after May 16th, as that's graduation for me. — Jon Lupen 22:30, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- Shard re-installed last night, and I need to get my copy out of storage (we recently moved--again--and I have it packed up) plus I need to get hamatchi again, so it will be a little while before we actually set it up.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 23:00, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- Alright, which reminds me, I need to re-install my copy fo Diablo 2 also. A few things haven't made it back onto my computer since the Vista install, but then again, I haven't played it in so long. If I can make it, I'll be there. Playing as a Necromancer and Barbarian was a lot of fun. — Jon Lupen 23:05, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- Vista made me install it in safemode a few months ago...did it make you do that too?--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 23:06, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- Idk, I'll find out as soon as I dig up my disks. — Jon Lupen 23:09, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- *Update* No, Vista didn't require me to install it in safe mode. Odd. Why is it that Diablo 2 can auto-patch but not World of Warcraft? — Jon Lupen 23:59, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- I guess diablo 2 is more simple and easier to patch. -- Halogod35 19:30, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

NPA
Regardless what people like to think, insinuating that we're a bunch of idiots is not good PR, and as such I would call the people doing such things morons.
But hey, if I get banned oh well, not like I can't create new accounts via proxy or anything. --Dazra/Ryuujinx 04:26, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- Where did you get it from the Gaile was insinuating that we are all a "bunch of idiots"? I've been around long enough and been around enough to know that Gaile insulting someone, or implying an insult is just not possible. Don't read into comments deeper than they were written. Don't go looking for hidden messages when people are being up-front about it. Also, you don't repay insults with insults. An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. — Jon Lupen 04:31, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- Also, if you don't clean up your act, your proxies will just get banned, and any time you go around hatemongering, your only going to get your words deleted or burried in an archive somewhere very fast. — Jon Lupen 04:38, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- "Watch yourself. Shard has been blocked a fair number of times, and for great lengths of time for crossing that line a fair number of times, often in the same manor as you just did. — Jon Lupen 04:14, 16 April 2009 (UTC) Retrieved from "http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User_talk:Dazra"
- You crack me up everytime you say that!--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 05:28, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- I laugh at that, I have no intention of trying to get banned, but if you honestly think you can ban every proxy out there... kudos to you, a quick google search reveals more then a few, in addition every time I restart my phone it likes to give me a new IP.. but whatever. "Yes, that's right. Would you like me to explain that damn / body part thing to you? I mean, I can go off on the whole linguistic differences between derivations of the word "doom" and references to body parts, but I don't imagine you really need the education." directed at me or not, is an insinuation at their intelligence. You don't have to look far to find bad PR. But I'll be fair, Square Enix, Blizzard and NCsoft aren't any better. --Dazra/Ryuujinx 06:24, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- @DazraI know fair number of people that are quite intelligent, but not very well informed in certain areas. For example, questioning someone's computer knowledge is not insinuation at their intelligence, as they could very well know more about math or physics than I do. Doubting somoene's knowledge in a certain area is not doubting their intelligence.
- @Yasmin:Serious question, what's so funny about that? Am I missing something? — Jon Lupen 17:57, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- Shard is your example...anytime you mention NPA, banning, blocking or the sort, his name is always attached. Its just funny to me--in a cute way. Its almost like a catch phrase.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 18:19, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- Well, He's just the one that comes to mind first. If I were to mention vandalism, Raptors is the first one that would come to mind. Shard has a record for himself, when he cleans up his record, (which he is doing a good job of from what I've seen) I'll rethink who I use for examples of NPA breaches. — Jon Lupen 20:26, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

30 pc games
is a pretty lacking list. it didn't even mention baldur's gate 2, which is probably the best pc game I've ever played for a myriad of reasons, and starcraft wasn't actually listed, only mentioned in passing. people could easily skip bad games like civ 4, rome total war, hitman, or grand prix legends for either of those :/ (and more to the point, while EVE is a complex MMO, wow is a superior game - someone looking to try a bit of everything should honestly trial both to see what's what).
tl;dr don't put much stock in that list, because it kinda sucks -Auron 05:28, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- It was a lot better than I was expecting. Most of those kinds of lists top with Halo 1-3 depending on when they were published. :/ --75.71.65.109 05:31, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- any list with halo 2 or 3 on it is an automatic fail. halo 1 was actually pretty groundbreaking when it came out, following wolfenstein/doom and goldeneye as revolutionary FPS games. i agree, i wouldn't put halo 1 on a list of must-try pc games, but it would definitely be on the list of must-try fps games. -Auron 05:34, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- Totally agree with BG2 belonging there. — Why 15:34, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- If they made halo with halo 3's special sttuff (like dual weilding and swords and good graphics) That would so be kick ass. Also, it would have to keep halo's weapons and damage ratio. Cause I loved the pistol so much, it was a must keep weapon. -- Halogod35 15:49, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Every day the number drops
and I am getting more and more curious. It's near the time college starts, right? At least, my 2nd year at uni will start the 1st of September, something like that. — Why 21:40, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- Past that but yes, it is close. I start college (first year) August 24th and the count-down is until Spetember 4th. More on that soon.
- On another count-down note, I'm out of high school in eight days (including the weekend, and not counting today because it's pretty much over). =D In a way, I actually can't wait for college, for two reasons. First off, I'll finally get away from a good number of the apathetic slackers and scum that inhabit public schools, and secondly, I'll be starting programming classes again. I loved my programming and computers classes, until I exausted my school's suppply of them last year... — Jon Lupen 21:50, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- Wew, sounds good ^^ I still want to learn programming, but I'm just too busy at the moment. Besides, I'd probably not have any talent for it anyway. It took me ages to figure out wikicode. :P How old are you actually, if I may ask? — Why 22:55, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- As my java teacher once said, "Programming is as much a state of mind as it is knowledge and talent." I have a feeling I'm going to have even less time than you once college starts up. I'm 18, if you would like to know. — Jon Lupen 00:08, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, I highly doubt that, but I'd feel very sorry for you if you turn out to be right. Lol. Also, 18 ftw. I don't look forward to my birthday in 2 months, 19 sounds... different. Somehow I prefer 18. But hey, I suppose that'll change once I'm 19. — Why 00:12, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- A large part of programming is not just how much code you know, it's how well you can use it and such. I personally found it to be true, but that's just me. Now, if you will excuse me, I need to take some leave of the wiki and stop stealing time from finishing my late term paper. :P Late due to the giant snowball pile of work I'm behind on, on account of my skiing accident back in February. — Jon Lupen 00:29, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Temperature
I thought I'd ask you first. The area around my laptop (specifically the exhaust port) floats around 120-135 degrees, peaking at 143 rarely. Is that a problem? I run Folding @ Home on this one whenever I'm plugged in (uses one whole processor), sometimes for hours at a time when I'm not actually using my laptop. --Antioch 16:37, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Is this fahrenheit or celsius? If the temps are in fahrenheit, then that's around 60 degrees celcius and your fine. Laptops are more prone to heat problems than desktops because of their size and compression. If celsius, then your laptop is getting God-awfully hot, and you have reason to worry. My video cards (yes, two of them) peak around 80-90 celcius and those things are monsters. — Jon Lupen 16:43, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Forgot to mention that! Yes, Fahrenheit. Is there any way to find out the actual temperature of the processor, not just the exhaust? --Antioch 16:45, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

- You may not take the wiki seriously, but plenty of others do. Look beyond yourself and stand in their shoes. Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate. You stand in a position to very easily accumulate a very large number of enemies, many of them very powerful. Mix your chemicals carefully, many of them explode, and when they do, you'll have blood and war on your hands. — Jon Lupen 18:51, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- Are you serious? Mini Me 19:36, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- If I wasn't serious, you wouldn't have to ask that question. — Jon Lupen 19:37, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- So you're serious? Mini Me 19:39, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
