Simplified skill Effects[edit]
this is how I think and wish aNet will simplify it's gameplay by creating standards on damages making skills/spells have direct damage and bonus damage. These will change since I'm so fickle minded.
- -Hexes are for extending conditions or after effects
- -Spells are direct damage and will no cause additional conditions unless elites.
- Fire spells - cause 3 seconds of burning per hit.
- Earth spells - Causes 3 seconds of blindness per hit.
- Lightning spells - Causes 3 seconds of weakness per hit.
- Water spells - causes 3 seconds of slower movement of 10%.
- Shadow spells - causes 3 secodns of blindness per hit.
- Chaos spells - has 5% chance of -10% energy per hit.
- Holy spells - Cause 25% more damage against undead.
- Dark spells - Cause 25% more damage against ethereals/spirits.
- Slashing damage - has 7.5% chance of causing bleeding or crippled depending on weapon and skill.
- Scythes
- Swords
- Daggers
- Blunt damage - has 5% chance of causing (2) knock down or crack armor depending on weapon and skill.
- Hammers
- Fists
- Piercing damage - has 7.5% chance of causing daze or deep wound depending on weapon and skill.
- Bow
- Spear
- All of these are just from speculations of the original game play. Anyone wanna discuss? :P Renin 17:26, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- The main problem I can see is that, especially for parts where you are solo, it makes it that much more difficult to cause multiple effects. It also reduces your flexibility, and thus forces cooperation with increasingly large groups.
- Instead, I think that simplifying the skill set is to have fewer skills that are more flexible. For example, running skills combined with protection, damage skills that include conditions and are easier to apply, and skills that have different effects in combat and outside of combat, or while standing/moving/jumping. -- Alaris 19:18, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- It wouldn't surprise me to see attribute (natural) effects come into play with Guild Wars 2 where, for example, you are an Fire Ele and find enemy fire spells (effects) against you are lesser because you are naturally attuned to this element. Resistances and weaknesses to elemental types is something I like, having invested heaps of attributes into one element (say fire) you'd expect to have a resistance to it as well (to an extent). I know we have armour insignias for this but passive benefits might be nice as well. I think having spells have a passive effect, depending on your rank in fire you may have a 1-10% chance of burning your target for however many seconds. But, that's just me, having some sort of natural system is something I personally like the idea of.
- As with the weapons classes this is something I thought was going to be in games by now. I don't pay much attention to the damage type weapons can have as it doesn't really seem to mean much, maybe it does but I just don't notice the difference in my gameplay. Having weapons have passive effects would be nice, having a slashing weapon occasionally cause short amounts of bleeding might be nice. Having Hammers having a passive knock down, cracked armour, Thrown or a Stumble might be nice to see. Thrown and Stumble as something I have on my own page and would be nice to see come in as well since we have the Z-axis to play with too.
- Oh, Renin, thanks for the invite. House Of Furyan 23:38, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hmmm, I like the idea of simplifying things by giving attributes inherent effects, and agree that it would be much better if the different damage types had more tangible differences, but I worry about how powerful this could be, especially for some of the cheaper, more spammable skills that might be out there. For example, if this were implemented in today's game, Flare would be on every fire el's skill set, if for no other reason than to keep the burning going. Same with anything that causes blind, remember that blind is a serious shut down for any physical damage dealers.
- For starters, for this to work I think it would have to be shorter than a 3 second effect, maybe more like a 1 second effect, or possibly 2 if you reach really high levels. Second, I think there should be a possible counter to each one, for example, in today's game, if a caster doesn't want to worry about Daze, he/she brings along Mantra of Resolve and the problem goes away. Given how often we might be dealing with conditions under this system, some type of counter for each one should be possible. Otherwise, I think it could be really cool.(Satanael 07:58, 6 March 2008 (UTC))
- For balancing the passive effect of say fire spells that cause burning I would envision that the chances of Flare triggering such an event would be very, very low as to balance it out. Larger spells such as Meteor_Shower might have a higher chance of triggering the passive effect as the energy and force behind it is that much greater. There will, of course, need to be a balance made with another attributes having a build in resistance to certain things? House Of Furyan 08:34, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Yep you all are right. Some scaling back is needed. Hmmmm Will rethink this once more. Sorry for the delayed response, been busy! Will add some more ideas about Skill system now that races shall be involved. Renin 12:12, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
