My Hero can not be resurected if he dies.

I have a Hero with one of my characters that can not be resurected if he dies. Why is this? If I go into a town or outpost he is with me when I leave, but if he dies it is the same thing, he can not be resurected.

Perhaps you have some Superior Runes on his armor which take away so much health that he is left with only 1. If that's the case then he cannot be resurrected by some resurrection skills. Or you might be using a weird resurrection skill. The last reason I can think of at the moment is that the hero may be carrying Frozen Soil. If so then you cannot resurrect him while the spirit is active.--The Emmisary 01:46, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

ONE Character Not Loading

I'm having somewhat of a curious problem insofar as I cannot play with my Dervish. Every time I try to load him up, a message is displayed saying "...unrecoverable graphics driver error and must terminate."

The curiosity is that I can play ALL of my other characters (warrior, paragon, 3x elementalists, necro, and mesmer) with no hint of a problem. Ordinarily I wouldn't mind TOO much, but the dervish is the character I've spent most time on, and invested most in-game money/materials on having bought Primeval armour for him upon completion of the game.

As the character which I play most often, and have advanced furthest in the game I hope you can appreciate that I hope nothing has happened to this one character given all the time and effort I have put in to playing him, not to mention all the in-game currency spent on upgrading armor and weapons.

Can anyone help!?

Many thanks in advance :) --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Carliecarl (talk).

Try repairing your .dat file. See command line for instructions. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 20:43, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Have you tried any of the following?
-Reinstalling your graphics driver.
-Repairing the Guild Wars files.
-Re-downloading the Guild Wars files. (i.e. delete gw.dat).
-Changing the ingame graphics settings.
Also please remember to sign your comments and don't post duplicate questions.- TheRave talk (talk) 20:46, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Firstly, apologies for all my indescretions; I'm new here! :)

I've resinstalled GW twice, and reinstalled the graphics driver...both to no avail. How do I go about re-downloading the GW files or repairing them?

Thanks Carl

1) By "sign" we mean type four ~ thingies at the end of your post
2) You can repair the files by following the instructions on the link Omni posted (i.e., this one, specifically the section titled -repair)
3) If the repair option doesn't work, you can re-dl the .dat file by first going into your GuildWars folder (usually in C: -> Program Files -> GuildWars) and deleting a file called Gw.dat, then starting the game as usual. The game client will start re-downloading all of the game files, which could take quite awhile. To speed this up, check the link I re-posted again, except this time look at the section titled -image and follow the instructions there.
I hope that helps! --Dragon Nataku talk to me 23:06, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
What outpost is your Dervish in? Is it for instance Rata Sum? Did any of your other characters visit the outpost the Dervish was in? What's your graphics card?
I'm asking all of this, because a few outposts are known to crash on Intel graphics, and a lot of cheep, unsuitable for gaming computers use them and your problem sounds similar to that. If it's that, then the only way to fix this is to buy an actual graphics card from Nvidia or Ati (or go to a friends computer and try moving the character elsewhere) Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 00:02, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
I probarly should'nt have posted it here, but i think it might help. Excactly the smae thing happened to my Elementalist (actually also the oldest char on account) in Rata Sum. I tried 3-5 times a week in about 2 month. Every time i got the same message, and had to bring up the taskmanager to "terminate" guild wars. The one thing that helped was starting GW on my freinds computer, and then it worked perfectly. The first thing i did, was just to get it out from there. Then it worked perfectly on my own comp again. These days i'm a bit scared of Rata Sum though...--Mlw640 18:57, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
Most likely because you have an Intel graphics card (popular in cheep, non-gaming laptops). Intel cards are not good for playing games. As you noticed, they have serious issues. You'll have to get a computer with an Nvidia or Ati card. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 23:01, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Hall of monuments and rainbow phoenix

Me and one of my friends have recently recieved our rainbow phoenix but this question came up when we realize that we should not have them. All we have is the title Kind of a big deal but our hall is not completely full. Our monument to valor is not full the rest are. I only have 3 destroyer weapons in it a staff, a shield and, a hammer. My friend only has a destroyer staff. Is this a bug and should i worry about randomly losing my phoenix in my Hall --173.28.29.156 07:57, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Some of the requirements are still not entirely understood/accounted for. Check out the Rainbow Phoenix page to see the requirements. Specifically: "Evidence suggests that the bird can still spawn even if these conditions are not met. The reason for this exception has not been fully explained; current theories suggest it might happen after displaying a large number of miniatures or armor sets.".- TheRave talk (talk) 09:03, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

the breach

i was on a quest the other day,but when i got there i could not get down. how do i get down? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.171.248.194 (talk).

The breach is fairly twisting along the upper section. If you're still lost, head North from Old Ascalon until you hit the cliff over the river, then head West and down some stairs. There is an NPC, Ascalonian Hunter, which may be there for you to click on and aim for at the bottom of the stairs. G R E E N E R 20:44, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Unwanted Chinese Chat

While playing, GW seemingly randomly puts a Chinese (eastern) symbol on the chat bar and everything I type thereafter shows up Chinese.

It seems like under options>Control>Miscellaneous Quick Toggle - I should be able to press "right-control" to make it go away and be english again. But I can only log out and log back in to make it go away.

"Quick Toggle" is for temporarily switching from the game language to your main system language and vice versa. Temporarily meaning while you keep holding the Right Ctrl key. For instance, my Windows in Polish, and my game is set to English, so holding the Right Ctrl key changes the game language to Polish until I let go. This only affects things like item names, skill names, monster names, NPC dialog...
Do you have a Chinese keyboard layout added in Windows? Are you sure you're not accidentally switching to the keyboard by using the windows shortcut? Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 23:44, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

How to Find Your Guild Wars Data.

WarningThis question will not be archived because it is already in the FAQ, has recently been answered, or the poster has not read the guidelines.

hello, I need help on finding my Guild Wars Data in my computer. I want to reformat my computer but I need to save the data, or at least find it first. I need to know where it is, either in my documents or on my :Local Disk. I'm not sure where to find it, so can anyone help me please? Thank you. 99.252.163.223 02:35, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

You've asked a similar question before, and the answer is still everything is kept on ArenaNet's servers, except for your build templates and screenshots. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 03:10, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
To make re-installation quicker and easier and to save having to download gigabytes of data again. Its also a good idea to back up your gw.dat fil which can be found in the folder in which you installed guild wars (default: "C:/Program Files/Guild Wars/").- TheRave talk (talk) 08:59, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Uninstall or removing Eye of the North

How do you uninstall Guild Wars: Eye of the North without uninstalling the main Guild Wars campaign? It is slowing my computer down which doesn't have enough virtual memory to play GWEN.

You can't. You have to avoid going to EotN outposts, or using skills, which are what use the additional memory. Just avoid it and you should be fine. On another note, if your computer can't play GW comfortably, you might want to consider upgrading. –Jette 23:22, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Zoom I/O With Touchpad/Keys ((No Mouse))

How do you zoom in and out without a mouse? Which keys/buttons do you use? I do not have a mouse; instead I have been using only the touchpad to move around, and I have forgotten how to zoom. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.35.74.26 (talk).

Not having done so myself, I would first take a look at the Control screen and see if you can change the standard zoom (set likely as the centre mouse wheel), to a much more friendly option. 70.79.238.55 01:14, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Will there be separation between the outpost and emvironments in Guild Wars 2?

-I apologize now if this is put in the wrong area as I couldn't figure out how to post on the Guild Wars 2 webpage.-

Like in the original Guild Wars, will there be a separation between environment and outpost as I always liked that or will it be like Aion and just be alltogether? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 173.25.230.209 (talk).

I'd say this is in the wrong area but anyway, it will not be separated. ***EAGLEMUT*** TALK 12:17, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Luxon Armor

Why can't I trade to buy Luxon Armor on my Rit. When I try to trade someone in Cavalon They say "The imperial Guards Elite may be aligned with the Great Armanda, but that doesn't mean you can serve the Kurzick without anyone knowing. If your not a friend of the Luxon Armanda, I have nothing to say to you." Only traders (merchants, material traders, dye traders, rune traders, Armor traders, etc.) say this from Cavalon and all the places that come after it. I'm in a Luxon Guild so when I tried to raise my alliance reputation, It doesn't work, the person says, "If your not a friend of the Luxon Armanda, I have nothing to say to you. So I can't even raise my reputation. Someone Please help me out! --98.213.33.97 03:01, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Cookie Crystal

You have more kurzick faction than luxon faction, apparently.
You just need to raise your lux faction: try a few rounds of AB, FA, JQ, or doing a few quests. — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 03:07, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
NPCs treat you by your accounts affiliation, not your guild affiliation. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 06:25, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
You can also raise your Lux faction by grabbing bounties in Luxon areas and killing things. Just make sure that when you talk to the Luxon Priest NPC you choose Bribe and not Fight, and then you can pay 50g to bribe him into ignoring your Kurzick faction, and then another 100g for the Luxon bounty. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 13:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

This one's a bit on the extreme side, but similar things have happened to other nvidia users.
Do you have a nvidia graphics card? — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 20:24, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
Also: can you provide any other information? Does it happen every logon? Did it start recently? (If so, have you made changes to your computer's hardware or software?) Does it start immediately after logon (or much later)? Where are the colors showing up? On NPCs/Characters? The background? Thanks.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:22, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
My laptop's nvidia card experienced artifacting like this and it ended up being some physical thermal damage to the video card. It still works in 2D for the most part, but anytime I use 3D, even google earth, it starts artifacting again. I did hear before that some lots of nvidia cards were prone to failure because the low lead solder they used wasn't formulated correctly so after many months of heating/cooling cycles, the solder would become loose and would cause artifacting at lower temps or even complete card failure. You should check to see if the cooling vents on the videocard isn't blocked with dust, and even if you don't see any dust, just use a compressed air can and blow air through it, it might help... generally when it starts lagging due to videocard issues, the videocard might be throttling back it's GPU to lower frequencies and power to help it cool down or prevent thermal damage. --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg 17:02, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
Yes, this sort of artifacting is typically a sign of the graphics card overheating - I've also seen it with Coolbits tweaking. The heat spreader/thermal paste issue you mentioned is specific to the 8xxx line, laptops especially (and I have plenty of first-hand experience on that one - blew 3 8600M GPUs, two under warranty) . I prefer a shop vac with the black plastic attachment to compressed air because it cleans out the dust as well, but use what you've got. I had a 7600 that completely failed due to this and I sucked it out and it worked again. --Falseprophet 17:41, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
Yuck. Mebbe we should start a replace-Lania's-gfx-card fund.
I replaced my video card b/c the fan kept going wild (and the noisy noise was annoying my noisy oyster), but that was long before any performance artifacts were showing up. (I hope that (whether they admitted a problem earlier or not) NVidia has improved their solder formulation.) In any case, it's always good to keep vents clean and to occasionally open the PC to clean out dust.
Lania/Raine: if the video card is an issue, do you think any resultant lag look just like PC-game-server lag? or would the symptoms be noticeably or subtly different?  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:25, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
The "lag" OP speaks about is probably a severe drop in frame rate. — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 17:30, 12 Aug 2010 (UTC)
nVidia didn't replace their solder formulation, they changed the requirement for card manufacturers (and it didn't help - I blew a replacement months after that). Loud fans usually mean the ball bearings in the fan are dying - they are actually quite cheap and fairly easy to replace - usually under $10 including the heat sink. --Falseprophet 21:01, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
Wait a minute, they still make microprocessors without failsafes? Who does that? –Jette 23:53, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Problem with Factions Cartographer

I have recently been trying to attain the Factions cartographer title and have made it to 99.7%. I can see that I am missing a spot just left of Altrumm Ruins and House zu Heltzer, but it looks like the only way to get back there is to talk to the guard in Altrumm Ruins but I am not in that guild. The other spot that I can see that I am missing is the part under Shing Jea Monastery where you first start out in factions, but my character didnt start in factions so how do I get it?

Joining the Kurzick guild may be the only option for that, but in Shing Jea you can access those areas during Festivals, when the Boardwalk is open. Make sure you scrape Seitung Harbor, I remember a particularity stubborn map cluster near the starting area that finally revealed itself when I edged out onto the docks area. --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 01:01, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
There's a couple of other tricks to get your % up: you can portal jump and add some extra percentage of otherwise unmappable areas, you can double-check that you have mapped all the outposts, (I thought I had, but turned out that was about 0.6%), and you can check that you have explored Unwaking Waters (both mish and explorable) and the challenge/pvp explorables (another 1-2% for me). Finally, I assume you have checked both this wiki's tips and those on the original wiki.
Good luck and please let us know how it turns out.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 03:18, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Thx for your help I got the max title, the portal jump worked like a charm.

Hello i have a problem so i just got the game i started playing than i logged out i couldn't remember my characters name and so i thought i could just uninstall it but there was no button for it so i went to add or remove programs uninstalled it and reinstalled it, when i entered my access code it didn't work because i had already used it before i removed the program. please help me.--69.37.235.81 00:36, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm not inclined to believe that, because the bit about it not letting you add the access code doesn't make sense. I think all that nonsense is kept online, so add/removing wouldn't affect it. Someone who knows more should come along and correct me if I'm wrong. -- Tha Reckoning User- Tha Reckoning Another Sig.png 00:39, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
So, you created an account, created a player, logged out and forgot your players name? To get that fixed, contact support. As for your access code, once it has been used, it cannot be used again. Do not worry! The information about your account is kept on Anet's servers, not on your computer. Your account still exists, and if you give support the information they ask for, all will be worked out. G R E E N E R 01:22, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Moving characters to other campaigns

I own all three games and EyeNorth. I have a level 20 character and two level 13 characters in "Prophesies." I know I can get my level 20 character to Factions or Nightfall by way of Lions Arch but what about the level 13 characters who are just out of Ascalon? Is there a way they can go to the later games?

And what about EyeNorth? Can my level 20 or level 13 characters transfer to the expansion? I am playing "Factions" but I am only on level 6 and would really like to have one of my level 20 or level 13 characters travel to Cantha.

Thank you so much. I do want to have a new character start the new games but I would like to have a character already leveled in Propheciess in case I need some extra clout or can't beat a mission. It just makes the game more fun when you play with a variety of characters. I play for fun and having more choices in different places makes the game more fun for me.
