Hero Question

This falls into the catergory of "I don't know who to ask so I'll ask you", so forgive me if this is in the wrong place but way...

I have a question in regards to Heroes: I was wondering if the Heroes use the same physical model as their Player counterparts? [if you don't know can you ask someone who would. IE: Do Koss and Goren share the same model as a [Player] Male Warrior and does Jora use a scale up version of the [Player] Female Warrior]

000.00.00.00 07:14, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Some heroes were playable in the Costume Brawl last year, and they could use emotes that they couldn't be induced to perform normally. It's far more likely that that's because heroes and henchmen share a general physical model with players than supposing that these emotes were added to these models for the Brawl. -- Dashface User Dashface.png 08:10, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm under the impression a Warrior is a Warrior, a human monk is a human monk regardless of being a player Warrior or a Hero Warrior but I thought I'd ask Regina as she might be able to check. Developers can create "Hero Models", which are unique in some respects than the standard version, even though they make look alike and function alike. 000.00.00.00 08:32, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Exactly why Vekk, Ogden, Zhed and Pyre all got their own models. Because they are so unique they can't use some other model. Napalm Flame 08:44, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Mhenlo and Claude use ranger emotes, and Eve uses Elementalist but they are henchmen. So Anet hasn't always been a class-is-a-class no matter if NPC or Player. 75.146.48.190 16:32, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Models have usually 3 main components: Skeleton, model and skin. Skeleton decides how the models moves, the model it shape, and the skin gives the final look. For example, Charr Axe wielders use the same skeleton as Flesh Golems although the model is different. So Danika's profession is Monk, but its model uses a Female Elementalist skeleton. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 17:54, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
I am hoping there's nothing really unique when it comes to the Hero's models, apart from the obvious such as [non humans] Vekk, Ogden etc. I'd be more inclined to think the models are generic seeing as their skeletons [possibly generic themselves or just having node information copy and pasted] can be mixed and match and can share parts of their skeleton's hierarchy [I hope I got that term right, I'm still only beginning at modelling and animation]. It would be a bit of a pain animating each professions movements on unique skeletons, which I don't think they'd be, more thinking along the lines the human skeleton for the males would be the same regardless of profession, and the females would be the same regardless of profession. 000.00.00.00 20:45, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
I've submitted your question to the design team. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 19:50, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes. Heroes do use the same skeletons as Player-Characters. Appearance is the main difference. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 18:27, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks for that. Second part: are the actual models of the characters any different than the player characters? 000.00.00.00 07:38, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
They are all the same. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 23:58, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Excellent. MY questions have been answered this can be achieved now instead of taking up space. 000.00.00.00 00:46, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Game breaking-Anoying Lag.

So... whats with the lag?

Over the past couple of weeks myself, alliance members and friends have been noticing a rapid increase in lag. Support isn't much help, each week one of us is emailing them asking what's up but its the same generic answer and the lag doesn't seem to be getting better. Euro/America users are complaining, and its only Guild Wars that is demonstrating a new love of lag, none of my other online uses are lagging.

So... whats with the lag? 118.92.226.80 00:19, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

I agree with you, I have also noticed increases in lag. —Rein Of Terror 00:38, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
So I guess I'm not the only one....concidence, maybe? I do seem to be moving much slower these days..... --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 00:41, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
I've had lag issues mostly because I'm some distance from the server (In Canada), and a friends in Guam...so the distance maybe my lag issue. I agree though support is to "Automated response click 4 to auto type this message". The lag on the other hand seems to be part of Guild Wars (You get what you pay for). If anyone cares my average ping is ~600ms. (Yellow) Dominator Matrix 00:54, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm getting lag, too, but remember that internet connections often go through several pathways (some of which have nothing to do with ArenaNet), so the lag isn't always their fault. Any bump on any server in between you and the game server can cause disruption and lag. Kokuou 01:23, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
the best way to give them info about lag is to do the "test my computer" thing in game. it will give you a text document has a tracert and that info will help them isolate where your getting lag from.75.172.47.227 01:31, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) You give them the log, and they still ask questions even if you gave them the answers before. Something on the login screen/network news would be nice to at least tell us theres a slight problem instead of having us to figure it out. Dominator Matrix 01:33, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
How do you expect them to know there's a problem when the problem is not their fault and whoever fault it is probably thinks it's not a problem? — Poki#3 My Talk Page :o 03:11, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Its not my problem as NO other games/applications have these problems. That immediately isolates it to them. Dominator Matrix 03:51, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Indeed, I just lagged out for a good minute. I was stuck in place when running to kilroy, so I figured, hey let's piss. As I returned from my pissing, it was still stuck, but became unstuck after about 5 seconds more. Vael Victus Pancakes. 04:32, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm not saying it's Your problem, but it doesn't have to be ArenaNets problem. You computer is not connected directly to them, but goes through a number of network companies, and a chain is as strong as the weakest link. — Poki#3 My Talk Page :o 05:25, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Exactly. Other game servers are in other parts of the country/region/world, meaning that the path your computer is taking to connect to those servers is likely different than the one it is taking to connect to ArenaNet's servers. It immediately isolates it to that particular path, but not to ArenaNet, per se. Kokuou

I would like to have a general statement from Anet on what we (players) can do to help solve the lagg. If there is anything we can do to adress this problem and help that would be great. Teamwork from the community & ArenaNet is what i am aiming at. If we know better what is the multitude of problems ... we can help inform and improve together. And the Dual Core might be conflicting with the older game engine. So....Regina...help the community help ArenaNet. Inform us what to improve if possible? --Silverleaf User_talk:Silverleaf 10:13, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm sure you want your regina-answer, but dual-core is not going to create your network lag. The only reason it would do that is if GW detected you had a dual-core and sent more queries or something, based on it. If your screen is just skipping around, then it's a hardware issue. If you get stuck in place and can move your screen etc., then it's a network issue. It should really only be considered your network if you have a wireless one. Vael Victus Pancakes. 13:05, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
???. Don't think Regina can answer but is able to suggest. And I understand about the Dual Core. I just think ArenaNet can create a FAQ for well known Lagg issue's that are user or client related. --Silverleaf User_talk:Silverleaf 13:25, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Well fact is that I have lags since 6-8 weeks...and like already stated lots of friends since that time have too. I used to have ping 40-60 all the time and now it's most of the time orange or red (yesterday it was even 1286 oO). I have changed nothing to my pc or connection and like already stated by others above I don't experience this 'change' in ping with other programs/games. So yeah I think Anet should look into this since it happens to so many people who used to have great ping before. It's really disrupting game play :( -- User_talk:DewdropPepper - Dewdrop talk 15:39, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Just hope we get a bit more than the usual "I't is not due to any server issue at ArenaNet" answer. --Silverleaf User Silverleaf sig.pngDon't assume, ask! 15:42, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Arenanet needs to come to grips with the issues at hand with the lag. Its been getting bad for ages now, as mentioned by a user above, like many others speeds where nice and then 6-8 weeks ago boom, lag central. Its getting to the point now I just switch Guild Wars off. No other online game/application I run has the lag issues now associated with Guild Wars and thus I can still enjoy them. And the users affected are only going. Go into most outposts and ask of the lag and many pop up sharing an experience of that days lag, or a growing annoyance of the lag. I contacted Support [again] and this time I'm literally getting apologies, I don't want apologies I want someone in Support to know what the situation is. If the pathways computers are taking to connect to the servers are slow why doesn't anyone seem to know? I recall Regina once posts on her talk page of a pathway-like issue when this first started getting noticeable and Support had no idea, from the impression I was given it was news to them. I just ask myself, is this how a good business is run? 118.92.226.80 18:31, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
as i stated before the best thing you can do is click the "test my computer" link at the long in screen. it performs a tracert which fallows the route your computer takes to connect to anet's servers. and gives a time as to how long each part of the processes was. providing that info would be the best thing you could do to help. because it isolates were you are laging exactly. you can also do this processes your self via the command prompt and typing in "tracert (server ip here)" then write up a support ticket and say oh i am having lag here is a tracert to prove it.75.172.47.227 20:23, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
I've been lag-tastic myself the past couple of months but surely this discussion is more suited to Gaile's page and not Regina's? -- Salome User salome sig2.png 23:46, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Why? :o Vael Victus Pancakes. 00:24, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
As Gaile is in charge of support so she might be more able to trace the issues. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 00:52, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
I've been told by several other games that I play that there's issues going on with AboveNet. Basically, 'it's all the internet's fault', which causes you to lag out or disconnect etc. etc. from the net at random. Dunno if the issue got fixed, but, you know, it's also hearsay. Diva 21:57, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Support blamed my wireless connection, even though I was not connected via wireless (I mean WTF), then my ISP, then the Net after they got me to download a ping program that showed it slowed nowhere but with them. lol But, still won't admit to the problem being their end lol 118.92.205.189 00:15, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Every time there are several player reports about lag on the wiki and the forums, I always contact customer support and the people at our network operations center to ask whether there are any current problems. We are notified when there are major problems. However the lag that players are experiencing hasn't been due to issues on our end, according to support. The more support tickets they get, the more data they have to work with to pinpoint the source of the lag. If you have a problem with lag or disconnects, please report it to customer support so they have the data they need to do their research. Thank you. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 03:03, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey Regina, any new/special features coming up in the Halloween special?

Hey Regina, since the month of Halloween is coming up, I was wondering if have a special treat for us this year? Because some ideas came up to my mind like "Halloween costumes" where players have to get several items to make those "halloween armor" (which is where the armor have no armor rating), such as fairy, pirate, clown, astronaut costumes, etc. Or is ANet creating a new Halloween minigame?--Dark Paladin X 00:46, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

i think its going to be the same as last year dono about the hat but we already have costumes there called tonics. also its been said that they dont have to do much to get the events to ready any more. so i guess that means not very much new stuff.75.172.44.33
