Submitting to Joe[edit]

Hello Joe, First i'd like to thank all of arenanet for this wonderful game you've done ! As you might have seen i'm currently working on a special mod/project with all the cartography of the game, and will try to gather all knowledge about portal jump or death teleportation, if this can be a proof that I love this game even in its flaws. I wanted to ask of you and of the team several requests, if you're interested and if these are not too difficult to implement of course, and why I'd like to see it :

Ability to go back to old areas that cannot be explored anymore (with or without secondary quests taking place there): old pvp arenas outposts, old TA outpost, maybe also prince Rurik's path in The Frost Gate (a quest going back on the tracks of Prince Rurik's death), It doesn't need to be really sophisticated and it would give a fairly good blast of nostalgia to oldschool players. Could also Ahmtur Arena (if possible, i don't know why it was never released but i'd love to see the level design) have a specific quest taking place in it ?

SuperRobertWa's part[edit]

"our focus is on maintenance features or critical bug fixes. Unfortunately that does mean that revisiting rewards or adding new content is going to be very rare." So that means no new content can be created due to lack of manpower at Arenanet. Luckily enough it doesn't always have to be entirely new. There are a number of locations that have been deleted in the past and are not in the game anymore, and lots of people would love to be to explore them (again), and perhaps do some quests in them? Suggestions are: Ahmtur Arena, The Tombs of Drascir, Drascir Mortuary, Team Arenas, all maps of Hero Battles, Ascalon Academy (outpost) and the explorable areas of arenas in Tyria, like the extended version of Fort Koga. So much content we never got to see! SuperRobertWa (talk) 14:08, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

Adding Ahmtur Arena back to RA's map rotation might be an interesting move, broadening the set of already-existing victory conditions & giving the tournament a fresh breath of Vabbian air. :) At least within all locations mentioned, this one is what seems as the easiest to embed into the environment of Live Server, based on the map's past history including initial evaluation date (preceding Nightfall's release, unlike really-old E3 maps), original location, the current skills balance in comparison to its winning objective & the easiness to track down potential issues.
At the same time, I don't seem to find at least one valid reason which would advocate the return of Team Arenas, unfortunately, as one of the fundamental things many people endorsing the idea of its reestablishment forget to bear in mind is that almost 6 years have passed since its removal, and that the general gaming environment has changed drastically, to the extent that the return of Team Arenas combined with overall lack of PvP folk on the server would only result in various syncers & their alt-accounts flooding the arena, while the actual degree of people interested to sustain the originally-intended play will only resolve around 10-15%. This kind of complications is what naturally arises in almost every aged-beyond-a-decade project, with Guild Wars not being an exception, which leads us to another already-held discussion and the challenges associated with it. Like Dmitri said, there's a reason why Team Arenas have been removed. Also given the current lack of PvP players it's out of the question to revive it. The original idea was to simply allow access to the PvE outposts (and perhaps also the inside of the arenas, if possible) once again, something along the lines of the rollerbeetle racing outpost when event is over (can't enter the mission when pressing enter). This would be for nostalgia and cartography purposes mainly, not for PvP. To me, the only PvP area which should be opened is the pre-Searing one, Ascalon Academy (PvP battle), because the Pre-Searing community is quite big. Also removal of the level limitation in the current PvPvE outposts (shiverpeaks arena, ascalon arena, sunspear arena and dragon arena) or access to the arena (again, if possible)/addition of henchmen would be really nice, as noone gets there anymore. -- Ruine Eternelle at 12:58, 11 July 2015‎ (UTC).
Well, I guess you're right about not bringing back Team Arenas itself, since we all know the arena was broken, like Hero Battles. Also, even with the daily limit on how many points can be accumulated per day syncers are still active within the game, so introducing another bunch of sync-material certainly isn't exactly smart. What I actually meant, though, is that the outpost Team Arenas used to be isn't used right now, and should be brought back. I liked to walk around there, loved its beauty and would love to go there again. Even if the arena cannot be brought back functionally like it was during 2006-2009, I would love to just have one quest take place there (an introduction quest or the Guides-idea mentioned somewhere else on this talk page) in the outpost and enjoy the nostalgia :) I'm also not alone on this, since a lot of (PvP) people have good memories about the arena and would love to see it once again. I don't think this will be too much of an effort (since not new models/textures etc. are involved, it's just a bit of programming with I am sure Mr.Kimmes could easily pull off ;) SuperRobertWa (talk) 13:06, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
