Main Page States I'm not Who I am?

Minor glitch, and may possibly just be me, but whenever I view the main page of the wiki, it states me as being logged in as "Shakuro" instead of myself. Very minor, but a bug nethertheless... Outpost 00:08, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm showing as "Stee" here, but I'm myself on any but the main page. --File:VallenIconwhitesmall.JPG Vallen Frostweaver 00:17, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
It's not happening anymore as an update. --File:VallenIconwhitesmall.JPG Vallen Frostweaver 10:29, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
I got the same bug today (for the first time). Whenever I go to the main page, I'm shown as Mrsugar --KangaRoo 21:40, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Log-in error

I am not even logged on my own account and it logs me into someone else's account. Today it was someone called WarBlade. Look forward that issue to protect personal information that could be displayed on the site. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:74.14.173.122 on {{{2}}}.

Are you on a shared computer? Similar to the section right above. It could be a bug. -- ab.er.rant sig 01:50, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, I'm not sure that this is a wiki issue or another type of issue, but I'll pass it along just in case. Please let me know if anyone experiences anything similar that can confirm that they are the only user logging on to the wiki from their machine. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 19:29, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
I'm recieving this too, the main page now states me as Lemming64, and yes, I'm the only person who uses my computer (anyone else knows that touching it carries penalty of death!) - on the flip side, the error does not go beyond the Main page, meaning I cannot access their properties, information, or anything to my knowledge. -- User Outpost Ky.jpg Outpost (talk | contrib) 00:30, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Add me to the tally. The main page was also showing Lemming64. At least, it was until I cleared cache and reloaded the page. I haven't seen it since, so maybe it was some Twilight Zone issue. (Added: forgot to mention that this is my home computer, not a shared one. Although it's possible that my dogs are logging in as Lemming64 and forgetting to log out, but I find that unlikely. And sorry for the extra edit.) --Nkuvu 01:16, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi guys! I've already let IT know about this, but since it still seems to be happening to people I will send them another email on the issue. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:30, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Alrighty, I've been informed that this issue should be resolved, and was stemming from an odd caching issue with the front page. I am going to push this into the archives this afternoon, but if anyone runs into this again, please let me know right away so I can pass it along. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 18:31, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Edit time

There seems to be a problem with edit times, and it's especially visible at recent changes. Sometimes, when you revert an edit, your revert shows up before the actual edit in the recent changes list. (example). If you check the history on the page shown in the picture, my edit was done after the anon edit. But in my recent changes list, the anon edited after me. This has been happening alot recently, and also other problems including not getting edit conflicts, edits now showing up at all etc seems to happen, related to this problem. I can't describe this problem in a better way yet, but something really isn't working as it should. - anja talk (contribs) 13:00, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

One example I can give is on a talk page discussion, I posted two comments in quick succession, while at the same time Gem posted a comment. His was lost and overridden by mine (I did not get an edit conflict) but in the edit history it showed his edit as occuring last (the article showed my edit and purge and forced reload didn't change it). I had to fix it manually. A lot of edits are showing up in articles, but they arent being recorded in the history, or are being recorded incorrectly. Hope that makes things clearer. - BeX 13:04, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I thought I was the only one. I've been noticing this behavior while manually renaming the armor pics. Sometimes the old images that I tagged with delete don't show up in the correct order in history. I thought it was due to a script I was using. -- ab.er.rant sig 01:06, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
I've had this exact same problem (and came here to post it >.<) - but, for me, it's been combined with occasionally not being able to see changes I've made to talk pages. I often have to purge the cache to be able to see the changes I made, and, even then, it sometimes doesn't work. I ended up editing my talk page a good dozen times on one comment because it wouldn't stop messing up =\ MisterPepe talk 19:02, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
I just wanted to mention that I am putting this into my IT update email. I'll let you guys know what I find out! --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:33, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
I've been noticing this too. Thanks for checking it out Emily. -- Gem (gem / talk) 05:41, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
From what I understand, this seems to have been resolved. If I'm mistaken, please let me know! If I don't hear otherwise, I'll move this to the resolved archive later this afternoon. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 19:21, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Logged in as someone else - and in a different language

Today on two different occations I entered the Wiki main page and got to the main page loaded as someone else. The second time as a Spanish user, which lead to menu items being displayed in Spanish. Going to another page fixes the problems and I get the normal "log in" link at the top of the page.--Lensor (talk) 20:13, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

It just happened to me. I was logged in English, as usual, though was listed as User:Helena. Clicking on the name on the top of the screen brought me to her userpage, and then things suddenly reverted to normal. File:Esig2.jpg Eldin 20:22, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes it is very similar to the issue in the box, but with the addition of the language being changed also. Just thought I would mention it, in case the issue in the box did not include this problem. If it does, happy to hear you are on top of it :). --Lensor (talk) 20:33, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes, unfortunately this is part of the same issue. I don't know the exact details of what's going on, but it has something to do with the caching of the main page. If you notice, this incorrect log-in won't happen when you go to a different page. The team is definitely aware of the issue, and are still taking a look at it. It's a peculiar issue for sure, but don't worry...your accounts aren't affected :)
Thanks for your patience with the issue. I'm going to see if I can figure out a status update on the topic first thing next week. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 00:36, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
It happened to me too, but I don't think it's a problem with this wiki. Because I get this kind of problem on wikipedia too. Lightblade 06:21, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Same here. its happening on the main page every time i go. either using back button or using link to it. very hard when i dont know other languages. devi59 21:46, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
A quick workaround for now to bypass the cache is to add a ? and another character to the url (ex: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page?a ). -Smurf 21:53, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Log-in issues

Hi everyone! I've received word from IT that some changes were made that should have fixed the log-in problem many of you were experiencing. For those that did not encounter the issue, there were reports of wiki users appearing to be logged in as other members on the main page. While this did not affect accounts or any pages beyond the front page, it was still an annoyance.

If you guys could look out for this issue and let me know right away if it's happening again, I'd appreciate it :) Thanks for your patience while we've been trying to figure out the problem! --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 18:53, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Images not updating, again

I'm having troubles with images not updating after uploading a new version. Wednesday (June 27) I uploaded a new version of Image:User Anja Astor Mii.jpg. It updated fine on it's own page after about a day, but it still hasn't updated here for me, but shows the old version stretched to the new image's size. I've tried clearing my own cache, but nothing happened. Someone also pointed out that this image on this page shows a similar behavior. - anja talk (contribs) 13:16, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, it's definitely a wiki problem as I haven't visited that page earlier and it still shows the old version. Non of the tricks that I could think of helped either. -- Gem (gem / talk) 16:53, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
My image has updated now, but not the other one I linked.. - anja talk (contribs) 10:00, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi guys...is this still happening, or can I move this to resolved? --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:55, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Watched Pages

Not sure if this is a big deal or other people have noticed but the past couple of days some of the pages that I have marked as watched are not being emailed to me saying so and so updated it. I have it set to email me minor changes and everything. I wasn't sure where to put this at but if somebody could help that would be great. --Sktbrd341 20:47, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Is this issue still happening to you Skt? --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:55, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
I have started getting more of them now but still some of them are not being emailed to me. Its not really that big of a deal because I am usually always on the wiki during the day and I can see all of the edits. But sometimes when I am not on I would at least like to see what pages were edited. --Sktbrd341 22:35, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Why do you even need the e-mails? You could just go to your watchlist and see all pages which have been edited. -- Gem (gem / talk) 13:51, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Yes I could just go to the Watchlist and see what has been edited but usually when I get on the computer I check my emails and see the changes. There are also times when I can only get on to my email and not onto the wiki to check them. Like I said its not that big of a deal that I am not getting some of the emails. I just noticed this happening and thought I would let somebody know. --Sktbrd341 16:42, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

I can't get on the site that well anymore

Ok when I started out on an IP address I couldn't get to some of the pages. I registered and could (Green Hills Dye Farming, Guide to Evolving a Dire Pet, etc.) But now every time I get on I get the same main page that I did when I started out. And I can't get to those other pages even by searching. I tried to log in and log out again but it didn't work. Can someone help me?

I'm pretty sure those two pages were deleted, for what it's worth. That might have *something* to do with why you can't get to them. MisterPepe talk 16:59, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Actually no pages by those names ever existed on this wiki. There are however very similarly named ones on GuildWiki, here and here. --Rainith 19:32, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Mysterious edit additions

Take a look at the history of Guide to modifying in-game graphics/Player made modifications. Some of the edits are messed up, saving stuff that was not entered by the editor. I remember gem(?) having run into a similar problem at some other page before, does anyone know the reason for that behavior or if and how the issue was solved? --Xeeron 12:15, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

The issue hasn't been solved, but it is caused by the pre tags. I would suggest removing the pre tags all together. -- Gem (gem / talk) 13:52, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Thx for the input, I'll try that. --Xeeron 14:37, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Weird cache error?

I moved Corrupted Nature (Necromancer) to Corrupted Nature (necromancer) because of the formatting guideline about article names and also moved the associated image. For some reason the old image is still being listed as in use, and the new one as not (and the what links here page says it's not in use). I did a action=purge on the article and it was definitely showing the new image. - BeX iawtc 05:02, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

=\ Does it still do that? I think I deleted the old image while you were writing this... MisterPepe talk 05:03, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Rainith manually inserted the image, so while "fixing" the problem, didn't really get us to see what caused the bug. I hope it doesnt happen again! - BeX iawtc 05:05, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
I'd guess that it's similar to what happens with categories on the wiki. If you do a null edit (edit, then save without making any changes), it should update. That's why I've been having to run that bot on all the guild cleanup and cfd articles (the categories don't update automatically)
Then again, that's just a wild-assed guess =\ MisterPepe talk 05:07, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
I responded on the image's talk page with what I saw when I 'fixed' it if that sheds any light at all on anything. --Rainith 05:08, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Well the new image showed when I previewed, but I think it was showing the old image before I purged it. That fixed the article basically (although I loaded it a few times and nothing showed up) because the mouse over was telling me it was using the new image. It was just the image pages that didn't update at all. :S - BeX iawtc 05:13, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

create account error

When i try to log in it says "login error: incorrect or missing confirmation code" and i dont know what to do to fix it. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.243.248.202 (talk • contribs) 03:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC).

Do you mean when you try to create an account or when you actually want to log in with an existing wiki user account? If it is when you try to create an account, there is a little puzzle on the account creation page that you have to solve to be able to register an account on this wiki. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 01:46, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
I've actually had several reports of issues surrounding CAPTCHA authentication, so I passed it along to IT with an escalated importance. It seems that when you create an account and try to answer the question, that the answer is rejected regardless of whether it's correct or not. So don't worry...you're not bad at math, and I have passed it down the right channels :) Thanks for being patient, and I'll be sure to keep you guys updated as I find out details. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 01:57, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
I've just received word that this should be fixed. If anyone continues to experience the issue, please let me know! --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 02:28, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
The CAPTCHA during account creation and when entering external links seems to work fine, thanks. However, for some reason I'm not getting a CAPTCHA when entering wrong passwords in the login page... can the IT guys double-check that $wgCaptchaTriggers['badlogin'] is set to true in ConfirmEdit.php? --Dirigible 02:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
That's why my friend couldn't register last night... -_- I'll have him try again and see if it works now. - anja talk 08:03, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Is that issue still happening, Dirigible? If so, I'll pass it along. I know they made some changes last night, and you posted shortly after I did. Just let me know! --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 18:21, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Aye, the issue is still there; logging out and mashing wrong passwords in Special:Userlogin doesn't throw a CAPTCHA at me.
  • Did the extension get upgraded, in addition to the configuration being changed or nay? I imagine this is a yes, but you never know. :)
  • In extensions/ConfirmEdit/ConfirmEdit.php, is $wgCaptchaTriggers['badlogin'] set to true? Since this is the default value, I again assume the answer is yes.
  • Just asked in #mediawiki what else could be wrong, and Brion Vibber (one of the main MW devs and also maintainer of this extension), said that the ['badlogin'] trigger only works if memcached or some other low level data cache is set up. If this is the case,
    • Per Brion's suggestion, "maybe try changing $wgMemc to $messageMemc in there", with "there" being ConfirmEdit.php.
    • Another possibility would be simply getting our wiki connected with memcached, if it's running on the server somewhere? Instructions for that can be found here.
It may be something else entirely, but I have no idea what that something could be. Once again, thanks for the help, Emily & IT guys. Cheers, --Dirigible 14:53, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
