Help talk:Ask a wiki question
Well, so, this page has been up for a couple weeks, which is long enough to get a general idea of how it's working - IMO, it seems to be helpful, but apparently we need to set up some sort of device to shock anyone who attempts to direct an in-game question here =P That, or make the text at the top of the page take up about 3/4 of the page and flash bright red. Either one would work. Heh. All (err... most) joking aside, I'd like to suggest the following guidelines for dealing with answered questions:
- Questions about IN-GAME or NON-WIKI topics (which aren't supposed to be here =P) may be removed from the page.
- Any wiki-related questions should be archived instead of being deleted, as they may actually hold some value for other users =P
- And a time limit - say, one week after the question is answered (unless the OP comes back and says the problem was solved), so that we can keep this somewhat clear. I'd also like this time limit to not apply to the off-topic posts, and I'd really be okay with deleting them instead of answering them =P
I'm also going to add a couple links to the top header thingy - namely, one to the NCSoft support. Almost half of the questions that have been posted here shouldn't have been in the first place - while I like helping people and all, we aren't their technical service center, and this is really designed to help contributers do a better job here on the wiki by pooling knowledge. I don't really know of a way to stop these in-game questions though - aside from the previously mentioned shock collar. Thoughts? MisterPepe talk 02:23, 14 May 2007 (EDT)
- I totally agree with you. The only way to stop questions about support topics is to delete them (or strike them out as a warning). An archive of wiki-related questions would be a very good idea, as it is some sort of Q&A for new contributors (like me). Alternativly to delete support-related questions we could just strike them out and remove them when archiving. I doubt many people will ask support-related questions when they see questions like there owns being stroke out. Der moon 03:03, 14 May 2007 (EDT)
- I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of removing off-topic messages. Its clear that the first few replies we've made to have not helped deliver the message to users that have posted off topic later. Perhaps a Help:Ask a wiki question/Removed page would be appropriate to clearly indicate that a message was removed vs. archived while still keeping the post around. That way, users will hopefully have an understanding of why their posts are disappearing without actually deleting their posts. -- Rohar (talk|contribs) 08:46, 14 May 2007 (EDT)
- I went ahead and created Archive and Off topic removals articles as a temporary measure, since the ventrilo question pushed me over the edge. :D At least we can keep the page clean in the short term, until we decide what, if anything else, needs to be done. -- Rohar (talk|contribs) 10:25, 14 May 2007 (EDT)
- Given that nobody seems to either understand or outright ignores the "wiki-related" only notes, I propose another page be created to be devoted to answering game questions. Specifically, redirecting them (in most cases) to Anet's support page, or some forum help page. -- ab.er.rant 13:43, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, as for wiki-related questions, just have them redirected to the GWW:HELPERS-page, where they can choose a person to ask all they want.-- (CoRrRan / talk) 14:07, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

We need a page for quetions on in game topics. This page gets spammed with them. -- (gem / talk) 17:17, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yea, and since people want to be nice and answer them, this is turning into a game help article, not wiki help article. - anja (contribs) 17:42, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

- Should help:ASK and help:QUESTION redirect here or to help:ask a game question? -- Gordon Ecker 04:11, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- What about Help:Game or Help:Wiki instead? - BeX 04:16, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- But what about the existing redirects? Should we keep them as they are, change them to point to ask a game question, change them to point to a disambig page or delete them? -- Gordon Ecker 04:27, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- Disambig I reckon. - BeX 04:39, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

A thought[edit]
This page is the "Ask a ask a wiki question question" page. Just thought I'd mention it. --snograt 10:28, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

- he means the actual page is "ask a wiki question" so because you ask questions on the talk page normally, that makes this the "ask a wiki question, question" (i think the additional "ask a" was unnecessary) ~ PheNaxKian talk 09:59, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Can someone[edit]

- For further clarification: you have no idea about sysop duties and should probably avoid talking about it if you don't want to look dumb. 207.182.131.34 08:28, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for reverting yourself. Does that mean you've actually learnt that you cannot simply remove peoples comments if you don't like it? Anyway, that wasn't a personal attack. I was advising you not to continue trying to talk about policy because it does make you look dumb. I'm not calling you dumb. Your thinking it was a personal attack further shows that you do not understand policies. 207.182.131.34 11:40, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

- Me telling you right now to stop acting like an idiot is closer to a personal attack, but it's not even saying that you are an idiot, only that your behavior is like one's and you would be smart and mature to stop it.
- Cut those imaginary NPA's already, only idiots fall for bureaucratic bullshitting like that, slandering the OP only makes you look even worse.
- On a less offensive note, him saying that you don't understand X (and should thus avoid the subject) is hardly a personal attack. "You have no idea about NPA's, and should probably avoid talking about it." ;p
