Trivia[edit]

Please remove this ridiculous trivia. You can take every single boss name in the game, you will always find a contributor on a fan forum who has nearly the same name. That doesn't mean there's a connection between the two. So yes, there's a guru user called Avarre but I see no evidence that this boss' name is taken from him. I could see a link if the name came from "Brand the Boss" and was submitted by Avarre but (correct me if I'm wrong) it's not the case here. Moreover, the profile of Avarre on Guru says he's a mesmer and this boss is a necro. So can someone tell me what are the arguments that clearly show a link between the two? Chriskang 12:20, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

I agree with the above comment, the name isn't even spelled the same.Ifive 13:28, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

That's... ridiculous. Both of you should really stay away from the trivia sections if that's your definitive stance.
First off, I doubt there is one boss or town in the entire game spelled exactly the same as the person/guild it's named after; however, there are probably fifty or more NPCs etc named after people. Almost every NPC involved in What Do You Do with a Drunken Shauben? was named after members of 치 The Spearmen 치 [치치치치] (a list of NPC names and IGNs of spearpeople can be found here; notice how none of them are exactly the same?).
Furthermore, bosses (especially in Nightfall) have been named after famous PvPers. JR of Mostly Harmless etc got Major Jeahr; the first rank 12 and quite famous halls-holder Lulu The Monk got Corporal Luluh, "Charles" Ensign of Idiot Savants got Ensign Charehli, Custo of Team Quitter got Colonel Custo... Oh, and Warskull got one too (Commander Werishakul). Notice how none of those are spelled exactly the same, but Emily has confirmed such trivia?
As you've also been able to glean from the bosses I've posted, the players' favored profession and their boss' profession have almost no correlation. Ensign was most known as an ele, but his boss is a mesmer. Lulu the monk's boss is a paragon. Is it really such a surprise that Avarre's boss wouldn't be what he usually plays?
We aren't making this stuff up. This isn't some huge conspiracy to soil the trivia section of GWW. We know what we're talking about because we interact with the people that get these bosses named after them; their individual contributions to the Guild Wars community are great, and it isn't the least bit surprising that they get a bit of honor by having a boss christened after them. -Auron 02:04, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Not only that, there was a boss named Ensign Lumi, which is named after Ensign (leader of iQ) and Lumi (leader of EP at the time), and they had a famous feud in GW. It is quite possible this is named after Avarre, since he's well known on Guru, and Anet have been known to use community members for boss names. --Fenix 02:23, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Whoops, two mistakes in my first post. Sol Pyrrhus is the exact IGN of the player it was named after, so that brings the grand total of exact IGN copies to 1.
Also, as Fenix pointed out to me, Lulu never made r12... but worked for ANet in some capacity on the Nightfall team, and was still famous for holding halls. -Auron 02:37, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
The fact that they did this in the past doesn't implies they repeated this here, does it? I never intented to launch a flame war, just wanted to see an official confirmation of the trivia. Anyway, thanks for asking Emily about this Auron. We'll have a final word soon. Chriskang 08:46, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Nobody's flamed; however, I am immensely frustrated by this continued crusade against boss names (hell, I'm tempted to go around and remove every piece of trivia from every article until Emily approves it, simply to mirror the level of insanity people react to this stuff with). If there's any guideline/policy we need that we don't have, it's GWW:AGF; something editors here definitely don't have.
If I've offended you, I apologize; but my frustration with this selective trivia removal isn't abated at all. -Auron 09:41, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
My concern is what is considered trivia? If this NPC is named after someone does the person who he is named after have to have some sort of notoriety? Its not trivia if no one knows who that person is. It’s just an obscure reference. If he were named after say a movie character or famous person then people would say "Oh I get it" but not in this case. That being said, just because I don’t know who this person is doesn’t mean the character is not named after him. Definitive proof would be helpful until then don’t get all huffy and puffy about it that’s why there is a discussion page. Ifive 17:31, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Avarre is well known as moderator on GW Guru, one of the two big GW Forums. That Chriskang does not know him only shows he removes stuff without better knowledge and for questionable reasons. Such useless crusades resulting in people who definitely know about what they are talking (Auron) having to confirm every edit they make by Emily is just a waste of time. I would rather recommend ASKING on the talk page before going to delete content, it is a bad practice on any Wiki. --Longasc 12:48, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
So you probably don't know that Emily has confirmed this boss is not named after the Guru mod, right? And for your information, asking on the talk page before removing the second time is exactly what I did. Just look at the page history. Chriskang 13:38, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Bone Fiends[edit]

The Bone Fiends he summons are not minions, thus he can't use Taste of Death on them and his Dark Bond won't work either. Also, Verata's Aura and Verata's Gaze cannot gain control of these creatures. ... What's that about? How are fiends no minions? Colonel Hawk 15:52, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Avarr is surrounded by corpses. He summons regular Bone Fiends from these. However, when agroed he screams his little quote thing and 5 non-minion Bone Fiends appear, these are the ones the note is talking about, although it does make is sound like two of his skills are worthless... False Notes[edit]

I just defeated Avarr (and got his green) with my perma, during the Anything You Can Do quest. And it seems that those minions ARE his, because he was using Taste of Death, and getting healed by it. Likewise, Dark Bond significantly reduced the damage I was dealing. Further investigation might be necessary, but I believe they DO take effect.--99.241.76.164 22:01, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

I just went out and killed Avarr a few times with my assassin. And it's hard to say exactly what's going on with Avarr. The level 18 bone fiends have normal minion degeneration (not counting the two pair of fiends on the way to Avarr). And Avarr uses Jagged Bones, which raise new minions. So by the time I got the bone fiends out of the way, there were already some Jagged Horrors. The Jagged Horrors certainly appeared to count as normal minions (Taste of Death and Dark Bond having obvious effect). It's just questionable about the bone fiends that appear when players approach. --Nkuvu User Nkuvu sig button.jpg 05:12, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
There are two kinds of minions he summons. Actual minions from corpses, and some that just appear when you agro him (no spell casting). Those that just appear are not counted as minions. -- Konig/talk 20:13, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

See over the Edge of the World?[edit]

what? Lord Zepherr 02:08, February 16, 2009 (UTC)

You can see the edge of the game's map, where the land textures end, just a vacuous void devoid of any rendered object. 68.51.95.206 06:42, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
If you gaze too long into the abyss, the abyss gazes into you. --User Ezekial Riddle silverbluesig.pngRIDDLE 01:13, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Stare longer then five minutes and Avarr gets back up,kicks you into the abyss and yells: SPARTAAAAA DemonicFahrir 08:01, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
A void that's devoid?! NOOOOOO--Ph03n1x 01:09, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
