Pronunciation[edit]

According to this Basque text-to-speech converter, "Aatxe" is pronouced "ah-chee". -- M47715c00l 20:51, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

That has to be one of the least phonetic words I've seen. -- Hercanic 00:41, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that thing says Aegis wrong... Not going to trust it -.- -FireFox User FireFox av.png 19:20, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
It says things in the Basque pronunciation. Aegis is ancient Greek. There WILL be some differences. KrelusDerian 01:43, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
That, and Basque itself is a bizzare language, if you look on a language tree it is an anomoly, cant very well be placed next to any language --Xenktray 21:29, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
From Wikipedia: "Aatxe is an evil spirit in the folk mythology of the Basque people. His name is literally translated as "Young Bull", and he is sometimes known as Etsai."
Maybe it'pronounced like "Etsai". Looks reasonable: A->E, X->KS, E->AI, EEKSAI, Eetsai? Etsai? Meh, im gonna keep it calling "atkse" xD AlicanC 18:26, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
It is prononuced aa-che in Basque.--AtzaMan 10:51, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
I think everybody in Spain calls them "aache", because is well known here that tx in basque is exactly the same phonema than ch in spanish/english. It's like seeing written welsh: if you don't know that w and y are vowels, it looks impossible to pronounce :) But it's a fantasy creature, I'm sure we are free to pronounce it the way we like most. --Zarza 10:29, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
"Ah-chay" is the approximate pronunciation, but I think most GW players are dyslexic, considering how often I hear it pronounced "attacks," or even worse, "a taxi." –Jette 11:43, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
I used that to pronounce Aegis in English, and it was correct. It pronounced Aatxe as aahtks in English, but that is hardly the point. xD 99.91.30.115 02:48, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
I just pronounce it At+Axe :D 94.3.83.193 19:45, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
You're all wrong! its pronounced OX, the T and E are Silent Aah-x, Anet is being clever... 184.60.231.147 10:59, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Speed?[edit]

Anyone know how fast they 'run?' They have to have at least 15% speed boost because they always manage to keep up with me. - Anon --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:65.8.119.45 (talk).

They run a lil faster then normal people, but with a 25 or 33 speed boost you outrun them easely, and they de-aggro within seconds -- Close Impact --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:84.192.144.207 (talk).

All this trapping...[edit]

I've seen many people (and now here) say that trapping Aatxes and blinding them is a good way to kill them. But traps wear out and have poor recharge times and do weak dmg. Ninjas In The Sky 08:49, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

I think this is what you are looking for: OgUTYnLj5ZJoESOIHiryZ7odAA. with the spirits, enough energy, and the right stats, you can lay down enough traps to take a bunch of aatxes or more. Foo 11:28, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
And you don't try to take more than one group of aatxe. You can lay down traps for a good full 30-40 seconds (energy permitting) and still have plenty of time left to pull - just get three, watch them die, and lay down spirits to start again.
Unfortunately, Energizing Wind got a rather heavy nerf (it lasts 7 seconds with 3 beast mastery). I'm not sure exactly how well trapping works anymore, so just go in with a bunch of guildies and take TNTF; you won't die. -Auron 11:41, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Ty guys, I understand now... They just had to NERF it before I had tried it. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Ninjas In The Sky (talk).
They really heard, my visit in the underworld was 1 minute, for I needed a look around. When I aggroed them I lived for, lets say, 3 seconds. Pretty stupid: for it was my first time, and didn't want to make a party, I took Zhed, Dunkoro, and Tahlkora :). Anybody knows a nice build of warrior how to kill them easily?81.206.83.153 21:10, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
I don't know the exact build, but it has Riposte, deadly riposte and some maintainable ench's. Ninjas In The Sky 17:02, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Attack speed[edit]

Does anyone know how fast they attack? im working on a build here and i really need the info. - Woutertje --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:77.249.213.174 (talk).

They're sword warriors. They attack as fast as swords do. Except in hard mode, where they attack twice the normal speed. -Auron 08:34, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Do they Share Aggro spawns with those dang Darkness's???[edit]

I keep using the D/Me Solo Farm and when ever I pull the second Group, one of them follows the group and kills me. One time it happened on the first group.

I think they do :~--Blahishness 15:18, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

When you pull the second group (the one at the top of the right stairway), use a speed boost to agro the graspings and run back. The aatxes will disengage. I think there is an aatxe that follows you if you agro, and he is up at the top-center of the circle. There's no need to agro him, only agro the graspings from the top of the stairs. |NalanaUser Nalana Darkling santa.jpgDarkling| 17:56, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Greece[edit]

The note on the Labyrinth said that they are usually found in the Labyrinth, and as these take the form of a bull, this could be a reference to Theseus and the Minotaur. SaberhagenFile:User Saberhagen Wiki Sig.JPG(My Talk) 17:33, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Drop list (rare material)[edit]

I've re-added Ruby + Sapphire to drop list (even though there had been a small revert war around it), cause page is still listed in both category:drops ruby and category:drops sapphire;
If it's consensus that GWW should not track these drops (because all monsters drop them), a clear announcement should be made somewhere easy to spot (category page or rare material page itself could be good choices) so creature#items_dropped pages become consistent. --NIN37 07:05, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Drop Rate[edit]

How do you guys know it has 4% chance of dropping ecto's? Was there a table where guys put down there drops if they killed one? And if there is one, where is it? Can I see it? (not that I don't believe it, but still I just want to see it) F. C. Sauër 18:50, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

We killed several thousand, recorded the drops and it seemed like 4% was close to the right number. If there is a table, it's probably on the other wiki. –Jette 19:00, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. But is it still the same after the new loot scaling thing? They excluded it only later from it, so they might have changed it.
And just a question, but can't Anet post such a list somewhere? It would seem to me as copy and past, but I can underestimated that completely of course. F. C. Sauër 19:06, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Loot scaling doesn't affect rare materials. –Jette 19:27, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Does this also mean that they don't drop more ecto's in HM then in NM? F. C. Sauër 19:22, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
I don't know. Some people assume they do, but I personally haven't noticed any difference in drop frequency between normal & hard modes. Hard mode is usually easier, though, ironically. –Jette 23:20, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

That greatly depends on the builds you use. So it might be better to farm on NM than on HM is there isn't a difference. Thank for the info. If you hear anything official about this, would you please tell me than? F. C. Sauër 11:48, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Type Of Damage[edit]

What type to they do?----Xtreme 12:23, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Since they use swords, it's almost certainly slashing. Manifold User Manifold Jupiter.jpg 19:25, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Bug?[edit]

I was using sn SoS build with my ranger and had 3 spirits attacking an aataxe. thsi was after I had completed Cleear The Chamber. The aataxe stopped attacking, so I cast painful bond on it and it still wouldn't attack. Has anyone else had this bug? Added-This has happened to me once before that in the underworld but the aataxe started to attack after a while. Jackster 16:36, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Sometimes they can get stuck behind spirits near were you start in UW. This will cause them to cease attacking. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.11.4.8 (talk).
If they, for some reason, pick a target to which their path is blocked they wont change the targets and will stand there doing nothing - it doesn't happen often and is only really happens with SoS rits because of the 5+ spirits. Biz 23:48, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
