moved from Talk:Life stealing

I havent seen this skill before, I just noticed it During a 55 run, Did Anet nerf this run again?70.234.170.236 14:08, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Frisk

this isnt a skill, its an effect from life stealing weapons with a vampiric mod --Blood Anthem User Blood Anthem Sig.jpg 14:09, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

do monsters use this?[edit]

moved from Talk:Life stealing

is there anny creep/boss that uses Vamp Weapon mod? Close Impact 16:52, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

yes, but only randomly. You'll notice it as far as you see the icon on your damage monitor. yet foes do not seem to suffer from this health degeneration. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 17:24, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
I realized it existed when I got killed in AB.User Ereanor sig.jpgreanor 02:12, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I believe, based on personal experience, that when a monster deals Life Steal (Drain) with a weapon they are wielding, that if that monster drops a weapon, that weapon will drop with the Vampiric Mod. -Curin Derwin 05:45, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Old Life Stealing[edit]

Since when did they add this? I remember back when it was only prophecies that they didn't have this effect. Meh, times change. Oh, and back then life stealing wasn't 3-5 either, I have a vampiric hammer that steals 2hp (which would require 2 second attacks to keep up with the health degeneration). Lol, at least they buffed new ones, but I'll keep mine in my storage for memories :)Crimmastermind 03:22, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Brick of Mud :P Paddymew 21:16, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
There is still hammers that have 2 vamp effect. 3-5 is just the max's. Frosty 21:19, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Life Draining[edit]

Shouldn't this be moved over there instead of making it a redirect over here? - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 03:05, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm working on resolving all the "What links here" first. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 03:17, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
I thought we could just leave the redirect :P
And to be more precise, let's rather move this to Life Draining (effect) and Life stealing to Life Draining. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 03:25, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Please just let me finish. Some of this has to be confirmed before pages can be/changed moved. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 03:27, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm not doing anything. Relax :S - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 03:39, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Ah, makes sense. Checking each page to the game it's self? *raises an eyebrow at wyn*Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 03:41, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Guaranteed Drop[edit]

moved from User talk:JonTheMon#Life draining

What's your objection? 88.153.105.75 13:09, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

My issue was with the words "guaranteed" and "gold". --JonTheMon 14:03, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
I believe he's right, actually. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 14:58, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Personally, I've only seen the life draining effect from a monster once in over 10,000 hours. It did drop a vampiric weapon (I don't recall if it was gold), but I'd like to see many more people chiming in before we declare it as fact. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 15:11, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
I seem to recall Vampiric mods can only appear on gold weapons, and if monsters wield weapons with unique attributes, they are guaranteed to drop. It's a funky piece of prophecies-era code. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 15:18, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
If memory serves, I do think the IP's right as well. Its really rare to be smacked around by a life draining mod, and I distinctly remember a few times during Naphui farms of celestial weapons dropping with vampiric mods like that. Whether they drop as gold only I can't say. --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Traveler (talk) 15:21, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
I think the question should not be whether it's a fact or not, but where we should note it, if at all. The fact that this information isn't readily available is a bit telling. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 15:32, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
It's typical. Jonthemon is one of those people that are more wikian than actual player. I have encountered this 15-20 times. Every time I got a gold vampiric drop. Interestingly this happened to me only through Skeleton Ranger, Skeleton Bowmaster and Sapphire Djinn (Mirror of Lyss) and no other foe encountered in those areas. 88.153.105.75 16:08, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Few things: if there are disagreements on facts, they get hammered out as is happening here. Second, it seemed slightly implausible and overly optimistic (guaranteed). Third, don't violate 1RR. Fourth, Orrian bowmen? It would help if you had given the actual monsters or a possible testing situation. --JonTheMon 16:13, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Two questions:
  1. Why is this conversation happening here instead of at Life Draining?
  2. Is there any other situation in which this wiki should publish drop rate data without also documenting (e.g. on the Talk page) how it was determined? (Especially in this case, where the claim is 100% drop rate, under specific conditions.)
I've seen all sorts of unsubstantiated rumors live on long after they have been disproved because they were published here or Guild Wiki. I think we owe it to the readership to be very careful.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:28, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
GuildWiki, with its vastly better information, tells us that Vampiric does only occur on gold weapons. You could move the conversation, it certainly wouldn't hurt anyone. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 16:32, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
I have 120 duo vanquisher runs of The Mirror of Lyss. 4 or 5 occurrences of Life Draining, all from Sapphire Djinn, 1 gold vampiric Briarwood Scythe and 3 or 4 gold vampiric Ornate Scythes.
I have Cursed Lands solo vanquisher runs worth 8 million XP. Well over 10 occurrences of Life Drain, all from Skeleton Rangers and Skeleton Bowmasters. Without exception these were gold vampiric Dead Bows (some of these were found in Nebo Terrace). I think I *do* have records about this. 88.153.105.75 16:36, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Awesome. Thanks for publishing the data. (I've done a lot of VQs, but I never noticed what type of damage was being dealt when I received a weapon with a vampiric mod.)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:43, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Keep in mind that while enemies holding Vampiric weapons must drop those weapons, it doesn't mean all Vampiric weapons must come from enemies holding them. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 16:45, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Of all those Life Draining incidents, could it be possible that you missed some b/c they were targeting heroes/henchies instead? --JonTheMon 17:14, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Note the two words "duo" and "solo". No heroes, heroines or hench(wo)men were part of my teams. 88.153.105.75 17:31, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
PS: Or were you referring to someone else? 88.153.105.75 17:31, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
I was thinking more the duo runs, since the other could be a hero or another person who isn't keeping track of attacks. --JonTheMon 18:03, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
The other person was me, too. Greed ftw :D 88.153.105.75 21:35, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
I suppose that this discovery/observation isn't the most unusual in the game (it brings to mind the synchronized entry into explorables giving the same monsters and drops.) --JonTheMon 22:01, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Which no one has ever duplicated. In contrast, IP88 isn't the only one to offer evidence suggesting a connection between damage dealt and items dropped.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:53, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
I've actually duplicated it. --JonTheMon 23:02, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Really? Can you tell us more? Did you see Joe Kimmes' thoughts on that? How closely do you have to synch? (e.g. timing, team composition/size, ...)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 23:22, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Me and my sister duplicated that sync entry a few times too, so I can confirm it. I went in with a 330 Rt, she with a 55 Mo, farming undead in Fahranur. It turned out to be pretty easy to get right. Some items seem to get synced, some don't. Most gold weapon drops do, chest locations/drops don't. I can also confirm the life steal gold weapon drop thingy, happened to me about three times through my time playing. WhyUser talk:Why 01:38, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
[1] screenshot thingy from way back. WhyUser talk:Why 01:41, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent)

I've copied the sync-dropping comments to a talk page (I think it's worth discussing further, but it has nothing to do with life draining or vamp weapons): User talk:Tennessee Ernie Ford/Synchronized farming.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:16, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

3 to 5?[edit]

Is it only 3 to 5? Can't you get 1,2, and 4 vampiric weapons? 76.181.56.126 02:32, 14 October 2019 (UTC)

You're correct; you can get imperfect Vampiric mods that steal for 1, 2, or 4 health instead. I'll edit the page. - Infinite - talk 08:56, 14 October 2019 (UTC)
