if you want to vanq, bring heavy damage - there is no damage and it takes sooooo long --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:70.19.196.62 (talk).
Vanquishing Old Ascalon[edit]
I nearly Vanquished this area six times...then common sense kicked in. Start from Sardelac Sanitarium to kill the damn Grawl. The Grawl Ulodyte run when they're around bosses. With a 33% Speed Boost, range attacks seem to be the only use. But, power is needed to speed through with a low Death Penalty, if any. So if one wishes to tank; bring something to slow their speed long enough to kill them. If you can kill all the Grawl, you should be able to vanquish the area within an hour.--iRathur 22:51, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
54m 224 foes. There are some mobs that run away from you and a few with longer patrol paths. Pretty dull vanquish. Make sure to take at least one rez. I made the mistake of not bringing one on my player character; in retrospect ineptitude > ES perhaps. Not too much to say. Pretty slow vanquish, I just rounded the corners/boundaries and cleaned up the inner paths. --LunarRXA (talk) 18:15, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
Red Stain?[edit]
If you were to look at the may, you'd notice that just north of Sardelac Sanitarium there is a giant red stain. Anybody know what that is? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:70.68.28.87 (talk).
Altered spawns[edit]
I'm encountring groups of char in HM between old ascalon and the breach around balth shrine... I can provide screenshots... but I wanna know if its related to any quest I might have in log (also I'm a Rt, so I donno if nationality will have an impact) 65.6.156.101 12:49, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- Checked, Hulking elementals are there, must be an active quest making the spawns or being a non proph character... gonan try abandoning all quests for proph... 65.6.156.101 19:31, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oddly, I'm getting the same thing. Ritualist, Hard Mode, no quests active on the entire continent, and running into charr in that area. 24.89.47.33 18:56, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
For some reason I didnt get Sergent Clark and his warriors to spawn. Cathan Mesmer. Do you need to be warrior secondary by chance? I know when i did it with my paragon she was p/w so just wondering since the quest (despite not available to foreigners) is a warrior one. Justice 21:35, 31 December 2009 (UTC) I'm really late to the party but those are from Then and Now, Here and There. I'm in the process of vanquishing this area at the moment. It's incredibly painful and I'm up to 343 spawns so far and all my heroes on 60% DP, lol. --Poobah 15:35, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- Sergeant Clark also did not spawn for a Canthan Warrior, so its not your profession but it may be the campaign. --War_Pig5 18:13, 15 April 2011 (UTC)
Vanq[edit]
Just completed a hardmode run.. 242 enemies and about an hour and a half with two hero henchies and a friend of mine. A couple of notes: the grawl like to run around like chickens with their heads cut off and that makes them really annoying to kill. Also, the thorn critters are really, really annoying especially when they gang up. Bring interrupts, lots of interrupts.
I wish I had read this forum before starting my vanquish. Bring heavy damage! I brought a pressure build (it's my generic VQ build) and it took for-freaking-ever. Grawls are not hard to kill or catch, in my experience, but they were hard to find. They are all scattered around the Ascalon portal - so check there if you're missing enemies. 24.7.179.241 01:50, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know people keep saying it takes like 200 enemies to vanq it. I did it in 135 enemies... I'm pretty sure I took the screenshot of it too. I just don't know how to post it here. I just didn't like go to every single nook and cranny to pop up every devourers that exist in the area. It still took me like an hour to vanq it.--Rocketrmd 0:19, 23 September 2011 (PST)
- If you have proof of doing it in 135 foes, that's substantially less than we've seen so far. An easy way to share the image is either through Imageshack or the wiki directly, uploading it in your userspace, for example, you could upload it to File:User Rocketrmd Old Ascalon Vanq.jpg. Make sure to read GWW:IMAGES before you upload though. ~FarloTalk 09:51, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- Guild Wiki shows 184 as the lower limit. Screenshot would be best before dropping the count that much. 75.36.179.25 15:56, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- Ha, yup I was wrong; it was regent valley that was 135 enemies, not old ascalon.Old ascalon took me around 200. I'll delete my post since it's obviously wrong. ::: --Rocketrmd 0:23, 08 October 2011 (PST)
Farming granite + survivor[edit]
I farm this area using an sos build in HM and get exp for survivor. I'm highly successful unless I encounter too many crowns of thorns. Nearly anyone can farm this and it is not too risky. Yumiko ^,~ 02:23, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
"There is a cave..."[edit]
It's not just any cave, though. It is Duke Gaban's Devourer Cave! Cynique 11:57, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
I just vanquished this area and it was by far the worst i've ever done. The grawl ai is completely out of the window. Haven't seen anything like this during my 1600 hours of gametime. Don't forget the gargoyle just west of ascalon. I did and i ended up running around for half an hour.
charr?[edit]
I saw Charr near the wall. I never seen them spawn there in my nearly 100 trips farming granite here. Since when did they spawn here? Yumiko ^,~ 22:29, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
- I haven't been thaaat much many times in there, but I remember seen Charr engaging with other species, so there is a chance that if you played with slow pace, they were killed by others by the time you arrived. Yoshida Keiji talk 23:00, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
- It's been a long time, but I seem to recall Charr starting to spawn regularly along the Ascalon side of the Wall after doing The Great Northern Wall mission which pushes Ascalon forces to Fort Ranik. I don't remember if doing the Fort Ranik mission stops them from spawning or just makes it random. 76.164.65.219 04:08, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- Well I now farm it on a rit that has only completed the great northern wall in NM. I farm in Hm. My ele used to do the farm instead with SOS so if it is only conditional because of Great Nothern Wall... I must have just discovered this. As its usually hulking stone that far up there (on my ele) and they succeed in killing the Ascalonian guards.Yumiko ^,~ 21:25, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
