Mission information[edit]


Scout for Bonfaaz Burntfur's Charr forces.

  • Search north of the Wall to find the Charr army.
  • Report your findings to Captain Calhaan.
  • ADDED: Find a new way back. Run to the Wall.
  • *BONUS* Recover the four pieces of Kilnn Testibrie's armor and return them to his tomb.

Speak to the Captain. He will brief you on the situation and tell you to scout the Wall to find the Charr army. Head outside the gate and travel to the northwest following the path. Eventually you will find a gate with a lever. Pull the lever to open the gate and head west, you reach a split with several devourers. Continue north where you will find a large group of Gargoyles attacking some Grawl. Wait until the fight is over to attack or simply run past them as they do not tend to follow. Pass the bridge and take the first path to your left, heading west. At the end of that path you will see a campfire with some Charr and a boss. After you have killed them, run through until the cinematic starts.

After the cinematic, run south to the wall and inform (talk to) the Captain of the incoming invasion. Do not stop at all along the way, or you will be giving the Charr time to catch up to you (thus, not warning Ascalon of the imminent danger). If the Charr do get close because you delayed your retreat somewhere else, sacrifice a party member (heroes, henchmen or players) by flagging/leaving them behind to distract the enemies (notably at the bridge over a ravine).


The bonus requires recovering Kilnn Testibrie's Crest, Cuisse, Greaves, and Pauldron and returning them to him.

You can begin the scavenger hunt before speaking with Kilnn. Follow the mission walkthrough until you reach the split after the gate. The first pile of wreckage is behind a broken-down wall (point 1); click on the wreckage to obtain the first item. To reach the next one, go northeast and take the right fork until you come to an area in which Grawl and Gargoyles are fighting (point 2). This one can be harder to find, so hold down the ALT key to help you find it. Cross the tar pit and head north, going under the bridge (you can ignore the Gargoyles) and follow the road until you reach Kilnn. Speak to him to add the bonus to your list of objectives, then follow the road towards the next pile (point 3), which will be near a boss. Continue along that path to find the fourth pieces (point 4) (close to the end of the mission, where the Charr are located). Finally, return to Kilnn.

It is possible to complete the bonus after triggering the cinematic, but this creates an unnecessary risk, since you would have to fight through a group of two dozen foes to reach Kilnn.

To make things easier in hard mode, you can collect the four pieces in normal mode first and then resign. Then when completing the bonus in hard mode, you will be able to go directly to Kilnn instead of detouring to collect the pieces.

Hard mode[edit]

Skip the cinematic to buy a head start. The Charr will run faster, use speed boost to ease your escape.

Captain Calhaan: "Head north into enemy territory and find out what that mangy beast has planned."
Ascalon Veteran: "It's been awfully quiet around here. No Charr patrols for days."
Ascalon Veteran: "Yeah. It's eerie. Everyone's on edge."
Ascalon Veteran: "I don't think Ascalon could hold back another Charr invasion."
Ascalon Veteran: "They're planning something, I know it."

Intermediate dialogue[edit]

When talking to Kilnn Testibrie the first time.

Kilnn Testibrie: "In life, I was known as the Champion of Surmia. In death I am but a restless spirit."
Kilnn Testibrie: "Please help me. The enchanted armor that sealed my tomb has been stolen."
Kilnn Testibrie: "Find it and return it to me, so that I may pass into the Rift."

After returning all four pieces to him.

Kilnn Testibrie: "Thank you!"
Kilnn Testibrie: "I will remember your kindness when we meet again in the Underworld."

End cinematic[edit]

Captain Calhaan: "You're back. Well done. What news of the Charr?"
<Party leader>: ""We found Bonfaaz Burntfur and the Charr army, sir, in a valley to the north."
<Party leader>: "But I'm afraid we were spotted. They come for the Wall as we speak!"
Captain Calhaan: "There are too many. We'll never hold them back."
Captain Calhaan: "The Wall is lost. We must fall back."
Captain Calhaan: "Retreat! Retreat!"
Captain Calhaan: "Regroup at the bunkers just north of Fort Ranik."
Captain Calhaan: "We can't let the Charr make it to the capital."


  • Complete exploration of this mission contributes approximately 0.9% to the Cartographer title.
    • Players can uncover large areas of the map by heading towards the source of Charr instead of running from them. There are two sections, north and west.
      • To reach the northern area run past the attacking Charr after the cinematic. The area behind them is easy to explore.
      • To reach the western area follow the mission path after the cinematic until you see a group of Charr running towards you from the right. Follow that path. It will lead you to uncover a large southwestern area of the map. A running skill is recommended for finishing this section on the first try.
  • Since no foes are required to be killed, this mission and the bonus can be completed by running.
  • You will encounter purple-pink waterish liquid which gives you the environmental effect Tar.
  • After the first cinematic, make sure you take the correct path. If you choose the wrong one, you will not know until you are just opposite the gate, and by then, it is too late - the Charr will have beaten you there.
  • High-level parties can fight through the mob of Charr instead of running; however, the mission timer will still tick down and eventually kill the party.
  • Unlike other quest items, Testibrie's items can be salvaged and sold.
  • Non-Prophecies characters will not receive any reward for completing this mission on normal mode.
  • After completing this mission, your party will appear in Fort Ranik.


Anomaly Anomaly.The subtitles in the end-cinematic do not match the spoken dialogue: as noted above, the party leader begins the spoken version by saying "sir," whereas in the text version, the honorific appears in the middle of the sentence, "We found Bonfaaz Burntfur and the Charr army, sir, in a valley to the north."
