Real-life weapon classification[edit]This sword, unlike some of the "Gladius"es, almost deserves the title. It completely resembles an ancient Greek sword, called a Xiphos, that would have been used in various lengths by just about any Greek soldier in the ancient world. The leaf-shaped blade is a feature made common by that sword, and it appears here. The Xiphos is linked to the real-world gladius in that the gladius was the Roman "take" on the Xiphos, essentially making it simpler and more easy to mass-manufacture, as well as establishing it as a soldier's tool as much as it is a weapon.
