Hard[edit]

Am I the only one having trouble completing this one? I end up with me as the only one standing in my team and like 4-6 foes alive on the other team. -- Nox Coma 21:53, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Help's to do it with a human player. Tho' Pyre worked fine for me. Backsword 23:01, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
It's not so hard, but in the start u have to run away (some1 tried to explore the map after starting this quest?), and only after the big war will finish, fight the other group one by one (don't atk more than 1 foe), it make this quest easy. --Itay Alon 13:47, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
What are the odds you're supposed to fight head-on, when it starts as 13 vs 17? --66.190.15.232 14:51, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Don't forget to equip a distance weapon. Raising an ice fort without it is pretty pointless. You'll always run out of it.--Pudding 15:41, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Players can't use weapons in Snowball Fight anyway, so it shouldn't matter. Don't press spacebar. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 00:05, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Necro heroing this is so easy, you'll be like, "OMG how does this not get nerfed?" lol218.40.186.9 06:23, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Ryoko

Glitch[edit]

A few of the NPCs, even if they have moved are still affected by Ice Fort--70.105.27.220 21:54, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

If you have a vampric weapon (e.g. Elswyth's Recurve Bow) then the degen will still apply even though the weapon cannot be used. 72.161.154.204 06:02, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

That's because mods still work in PvE. They were only disabled for PvP snowball. 66.190.15.232 06:35, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Notice[edit]

There are either hero dependant dialogue or random ones in this one. I suspect the first. Got three different coments with three different EotN heroes. Unforunatly, it was too easy to win.~.. so no more from me. Could people list the heroes they've brought and if they had something to say? Backsword 23:01, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

I brought Tahlkora, -> "I have to make my own snowballs? where's the fun in that?" Xx Ethereal xX 23:53 (UTC)

Pyre: "You will all suffer for my required participation today." Briareus 23:58, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Sousuke's speach doesnt seem gramatically correct. Here it is typed exactly as he says it: Why can't i just use water magic? It's like snow...really wet snow, anyway!

Hayda: "I like the snow. It's pristine yet driven, like me!" --Life Infusion «T» 00:14, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Acolyte Jin: "The snow is my arrow, my arm the bow." --Life Infusion «T» 00:17, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Norgu: "Come closer! I have a snow-liloquy for you!" --Life Infusion «T» 00:22, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunatly i dont have Razah, but these are the ones i managed to find: --Nick-Of-Troy 00:26, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Norgu - "Come closer! I have a snow-liloquy for you!"
Goren - "I don't like snowball fights. I can never find my ball after I throw it."
Tahlkora - "I have to make my own snowballs? Wheres the fun in that?"
Master Of Whispers - "The secret to the perfect snowball is...I've said too much!"
Acolyte Jin - "The snow is my arrow, my arm the bow"
Koss - "Cower before the might of Koss!" and "Koss!"
Dunkuro - "Every battle needs a plan. Every snowball needs a trajectory"
Acolyte Sousuke - "Why cant i just use water magic? It's like snow...really wet snow, anyway!"
Melonni - "We tried to have a sandball fight once... didn't work"
Zhed Shadowhoof - "Just try to knock me off my hooves, two-legs!"
General Morgahn - "First we feint to the right, then send a barrage over their defenses..."
Margrid the Sly - "I can pack the snow around cannon balls, right?"
Zenmai - "Master the snowball...size, form, arc...only then can you master yourself."

M.O.X - "TAR-GET AC-QUIRED. COM-MEN-CING BOMB-ARD-MENT." and "ER-ROR: FUN DE-TECT-ED"
Jora - "I once killed 20 wolves with 18 snowballs. Who's next?"
Pyre Fierceshot -"You will all suffer for my required participation today."
Anton - "Strike fast and leave nothing standing...or dry!"
Livia - "Interesting game. You take the fallen snow and re-animate it to do your bidding. I like it."
Hayda - "I like the snow. It's pristine yet driven, like me!"
Gwen - "Is that your best shot, or are you suffering from delusions of competence?"
Vekk - "Why cant i use my snowball throwing machine again?" and "Golems would make this easier, you know"
Ogden - "Watch out! The Great Dwarf has given me the Great Snowball"
Kahmu - "There is no pain. There is only snow"
Xandra - "Concentration is the key"

Gamer Points?[edit]

Just wondering, do you get Gamer Points from completing this quest? I'm at a whopping 1337 in my title track, and I don't want it screwed up. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Saphatorael (talk).

No, no points. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 15:12, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Walkthrough[edit]

There's too many of them... =/ a lot of these things are very logical - but could we please stick with one that always works or with a more general idea? 1. walk to the side 2. kill them one by one with luring 3. ??? 4. profit! Speedclear Walkthrough[edit]

Bring 2 rangers, smash your face on flurry of ice, win. 1 minute matches. --adrin User Adrin mysig.jpg 06:27, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Or bring 1 necro. Have himself die in the middle of their mob and use holiday blues. Then grab a ranger and smash your face. Life Guardian 06:31, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
I bring my ritualist and my ranger hero or my main and a rit hero, flurry and the spirit make a nice combo, and the spirit saves a grentch or frosty summoner, with rit and ranger its possible to have a fair fight and i manged to keep most of my team alive(yes a miracle)--Lord Randy 08:07, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
I just bring a Mysterious Summoning Stone and win easily. º• Øwn •º 15:57, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
Or my mains favorite way, ranger, and bring MoW(master of whispers)have him stand in the middle and when The ref starts talking drop ice fort and holiday blues, makes it a fair 1 minute fight--Lord Randy 17:23, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
I've been doing this with a Mesmer primary: Bring a ranger as your hero. Flag THEM back, and move within range of all the opposing team with Hidden Rock (and Yellow Snow if you have it) loaded. Fling the snowball at Carlisle, and then RUN back to your own team. Once they engage, move back in to support (and unflag Pyre), prioritising the other team's Rangers (Carlisle, Roland). It's not perfect - if you delay even a little running back (try not to click on an ally or the dialogue box by mistake) the entire enemy team will focus on you and you will get spiked down - but it seems to be working quite well. Draxynnic 13:17, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Survivor Friendly?[edit]

^As above. 76.6.64.33 19:01, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

No, deaths count against you.
If you do this quest carfully, you can make a Legendary survivor wih no cost at all. It's not that dangerous once you know the quest well. I'm currently doing it on a new character. It's an easy 80-100.000 XP per hour, and you can max your Ebon rank, which is far more harder than Deldrimor rank when doing Killroy's runs. Xaphan67 12:03, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
As far as survivor friendly is concerned I would say no. There are things you can do to make it shift in your favour but with so many NPCs and their random behaviours sometimes your team dies real quick, sometimes their team does. Because they all run in and pile up your team could die almost instantly leaving an entire army to kill you in a second. Unless you stood back and waited, making this a very slow farm, I would say it's not survivor friendly. 58.110.60.57 13:01, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Use a summonig stone, and only aggro one guy at a time, then you'r fine. I got Legendary survivor doing this without any problems Xaphan67 10:48, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Vanguard farm[edit]

This quest is a good way to farm Vanguard points even after Rank 8, anyone want to add this--Lord Randy 19:06, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Not only a good Vanguard farm, if you get it down right, you can make 500 Vanguard points, 500g, 5 Frosty Tonics, and 10 Candy Cane Shards in a little under 2 minutes. Me and a guildie have been doing this for a little over an hour now with the Ranger & Necro mix, cutting the quest down to about 50 seconds each.Sloh Em Oshun 23:11, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
From rank 8, doing 150 runs(145 i evened it out) you can make over 77k, 500 tonics, and 1500 cc shards, so good way to max the title and get some cash--Lord Randy 07:37, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

necro npc[edit]

they use Holiday blues and i am uploading a screen to remove doubt http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu305/randy118644/gw829.jpg boom--Lord Randy 16:46, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Anomaly?[edit]

That is a pretty bad "anomaly". Can anyone verify that? That's more of an exploitable bug, considering that this quest can be repeated, and it gives rep points and a very nice reward set. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 19:42, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Tested and it just reset the quest log. Elephant 19:55, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
So you can't get the reward just by resigning? Did you resign immediately? One of the Vanguard quests (Service: Practice, Dummy) can be "completed" by resigning the second you enter the zone... -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 20:03, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
I think anonymous IP is pointing at a general known behaviour of GW : once you completed a dungeon or quest you can resign for fastest outpost return. Indeed it won't fail your quest, once you completed it. Elephant 20:46, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Ah. I didn't realize he meant after winning the quest, I thought he meant that you didn't have to beat the quest, just resign and collect the reward (like the quest I linked above). -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 20:48, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Farm[edit]

Added the part with tyhe farn dealz in the walkthrough. --User Jrhsk8 Shadow Form.jpg Jrhsk8 talk 09:12, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

My way[edit]

I completed this with my monk and necro hero. I did like it's said in farming metod and I just spam snowballs. You dont need ranger for flurry of ice or whatever it is. I completed it in 1 min.--89.142.113.144 09:26, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

I (Necromancer) do this with my Elementalist friend, who just spams snowballs and icicles. You don't need Ranger or Ritualist but it makes it easier and faster. Taros 23:09, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Heros not affected[edit]

Heros bring pets just fine into Snowball Dominace. --Barionic Hawkeye User talk:Hawkeye8880 21:39, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Another Anomoly...[edit]

I'm in there at the moment with the Yuletide and Journey to the North on me... I'm at 600 health. Any thoughts why? - Jon Will 00:21, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

It is because of Journey to the North. balistic 00:37, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Do you have 9 in your primary attribute, too? 24.197.253.243 05:35, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Y'know I didn't think to check, that might've been useful. - Jon Will 02:22, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Vael[edit]

Someone verify that you need to have met and dealt with Vael's quests for him to join and be on your team? He's not showing up for me and I've completed Vanguard primary quests and such68.46.57.38 01:47, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Anomaly/Bug[edit]

Sometimes when I use Yellow Snow and hit Stacy with it just as she turns hostile, I am also poisoned, can someone add that? (forgot to sign) Taros 02:17, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

It's not poison, it's disease. Disease spreads. 98.248.90.248 02:16, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh, yeah my bad... forgot we're all humans here. Taros 02:17, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Summoning Stones[edit]

During this quest you can use a grench/freezie summoning stone to give you an extra ally since they use snowball fighting skills. I am pretty sure this was not intended and is just something that they overlooked when programming this quest.

Also if you use a mysterious summoning stone you gain an ally which can cause damage. Siege Turtle + Snowball = Great fun xD Mythman981 10:05, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
Igneous Summoning Stone also works! apparently the NPC's don't attack your imp, and it seems that the imp uses it's standard fireball attack as opposed to the Yuletide skillset. Gwynna Vive 09:52, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Let's get 'em[edit]

Maybe I'm I misinterpreting things, or do the "killed" NPCs count as allies for that skill? Whenever I'm near them and use the skill, I can instantly use Mega Snowball. Quite useful. Intended?--Cyberman User Cyberman Mastermind Sig.gif 22:48, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Wintersday in july?[edit]

Is this quest available during Wintersday in July? Or only the regular Wintersday?--24.63.116.169 19:11, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

No you can only do it on Wintersday not Wintersday in July --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.190.123.210 (talk).

Necro & Ritualist[edit]

From my experience, this is the best combo as it helps not only your party, but every NPC on your team. Similar to the tactics that have been posted on here, what you do is firstly run over to the other's team's group and find a place bang in the middle of as many NPC's as you're able to. The ritualist summons Jack Frost, and then the Necro uses Holiday Blues. Then you run back to your own side quickly. What happens next is that when everyone turns red and uses their snow fort skill against Jack Frost, thus wasting it before the fighting even begins. At the same time, they're also losing health from the Well they're standing in, and then they use "Mmmmm, Snowcone", Wasting that too. Then they get ganked your team and killed pretty easily, with you joining in the fight. Very easy win. --Malchior 21:19, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Or just go ranger with a necro hero and faceroll keyboard. 67.149.248.3 02:26, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Better yet, in addition to 67.149.248.3's advice change your necro to a necro/ranger and bring his/her pet. their pet sticks around about 4 times longer than the hero himself, giving you a better chance to ball the opposing team up. Not sure why this occurs. Maybe the opposing team has trouble targeting the pet? Does your hero have no pet? Not a problem! A polar bear is only a quick, short trot to the west of the EOTN entrance just off the ice, or you can go a little further and pick up one of the jingle animals. sure they'll be level 6, but even at level 6 they can hang around 4 times longer than their master!
Additionally, change your secondary to /Ranger and bring your pet. It won't attack, but will occasionally take some of the damage meant for you...that is, in the extremely rare occasions the stragglers manage to get off a few snowballs your way!218.40.186.9 23:53, 21 December 2010 (UTC)Ryoko

Updated Rewards List[edit]

I saw that no one had changed the rewards to reflect that it now gives 10 Wintersday Gifts instead of 10 Candy Cane Shards, so I edited that. TheGizzy 05:48, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Snowball Dominance 2010 vs 2009[edit]

In 2009, this was a repeatable quest (and we have lots of farming advice for it). In 2010, it can only be done 1x. Should we update the article (removing farming notes, add a historical note about the way it used to be)? Or should we rename this to SD 2009 and create a new SD article? Or?  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:02, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

It is still repeatable. Try changing districts after getting the quest reward. Idmz 14:06, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Yup, it's still very much repeatable. But you do have to either change districts or zone out/back into EotN after receiving the quest rewards or Casey won't offer the quest. I've re-done the mission multiple times already. TheGizzy 15:24, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Oh? Well then, I'm glad to be wrong. Thanks!  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:01, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Hero Training.[edit]

Just thought Id mention that while repeating this over and over, it makes an amazing way to level heroes when your grabbing the reward. Good way to level up any hero you haven't used for a long while.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 01:19, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

"This quest is repeatable, although you must rezone in order for Casey Carpenter to offer it again. Players use it to farm Wintersday Gifts, Ebon Vanguard rank, and power level newer characters and/or heroes. "
Does that cover your tip sufficiently? Or do you think the leveling hero bit (which requires adding/dropping them) deserves more attention?  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:42, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

bug?[edit]

so doing this on 2 accounts from 1 comp i can make 1 lag by having it downsized (basically letting me join the map when ever i want)so i started to notice that the skill would sometimes change when the second account joined, cant really show a pic of it changing but i have one of being enchanted with yellow snow but it not being on my skill bar, should this be noted?AurenXneruA 03:39, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

I got bored and so i started running around. i was able to go throughout the whole map, the portal to Norrhart Domains was closed, and i was able to go past the portal to boreal station, but with no effect. I think that this is pretty funny --Smroz01 15:03, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Portal to Battledepths is closed too during this quest. --Silver Edge 22:49, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Note 3: "You get credit for a win as long as all opposing combatants are tagged out before the timer runs out."[edit]

User Tekn0mancer Snowball Dominance mutual kill.jpg

This is not true. It's certainly possible to get the victory message, but you can only complete the quest successfully if you are the last one standing. I dropped a well and then Carlisle Gavenport interrupted my fort and wiped me before I could snowcone. The well killed him before the countdown ended though, so I did see the victory message while Staci Magicalsen was gloating. Once back inside however, Casey Carpenter just offered to re-start the fight. It was not counted as "credit for a win," as the note suggests. See screenshot. -- Tekn0mancer User Tekn0mancer-Awaken the Blood 19px sig.jpg talk 17:42, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the screenshot; I've updated the Notes to reflect the bug. I was assuming good faith on the part of the original poster.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:51, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Random NPC Weapons[edit]

I've been farming this and just noticed that the NPC weapons are apparently assigned at random from profession-appropriate Core and EotN equipment. Allyn Brand, for instance, appears inside EotN holding a Shining Gladius & Gloom Shield (odd choices for a Mesmer), but during the snowball fight those are variously replaced by a Fuchsia Staff, an Arcane Staff, an Imposing Scepter and a Gilded Artifact, etc. Other characters also have this weapon-shuffling effect (Captain Langmar sometimes has a Fiery Dragon Sword, sometimes something else). It's just a trivial detail that doesn't affect anything, but I figured I'd mention it here since it doesn't seem to be noted anywhere else. -- Tekn0mancer User Tekn0mancer-Awaken the Blood 19px sig.jpg (Talk) 22:24, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Winning by superior numbers[edit]

Ah-hah, so it wasn't just my imagination that there seemed to be more people on the opposing team. It really didn't help, for determining how many people on my team were still up, that some of the NPCs who were eliminated seemed to get stuck on the battlefield. I actually saw some of them sit down where they were. Some from the opposing team would get accidentally bodyblocked by my team and just stand there. 67.246.60.56 07:43, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
