Part 3 Announced![edit]

Part 3 was just announced to be released tomorrow, the 9th, over Facebook (and probably Twitter, too). Excitement! There's also a blog post with a monologue from Miku, which serves as a recap for most of Part 2. 128.113.148.56 00:14, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Fuck yeah!!! 93.146.158.35 17:17, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Ending[edit]

way too weak to be honest.. third part was short, confrontation was reiko was pretty half-assed, quests weren't that great either. was expecting more after taking 8 month or something to finish 78.35.189.157 05:44, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

"the second on September 29, 2011; the final phase was released on February 9, 2012." Eight months, huh? October... November.. December... January... February - 4.5 months more like.
Fun fact: Coding wise, at least, the Reiko boss battle is more complex than anything produced since Eye of the North. Q_Q moar, we are getting content from a skeleton crew, so I say being able to produce something on par to an expansion's end boss is a damn good accomplishment. Konig/talk 08:44, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
That is an understatement. We finally have a boss in this RPG that fights like and RPG boss, in multiple forms. Da Mystic Reaper 12:17, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
I believe the way she fought was an allusion to mesmers in GW2, since she had all those copies of herself. Actually, I am almost sure of it, cause some of her clones were called Phantasms and that's a skill type mesmer has in GW2. I knew we were going to get the hero we got, but I thought it would of been cool to get Zei Ri. Right now, the only hero classes left with 2 representatives are mesmer and ritualist. Zei Ri is a rit...would of been a pretty neat addon, since we did work with him just as much if not more than the hero we got and he was kinda disagreeing with the Ministry's actions at the end there (or that's how I saw it when he let us pass in that one cutscene....then again, he probably got killed, but it wasn't really said what happened to him). Magi 13:25, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
Also, I wish there were dailys like there were in WiK so we could continue to get lockboxes or w/e. Magi 13:26, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
Zei is unlocked by playing through WoC in HM. So unless you no longer count Razah as a rit, only Mesmer is left without 3 heroes of. Also, you can continue to gt lockboxes - it's just a lot harder than WiK. Make sure to not have that flashback quest, then go out and kill Ministry mobs, trade in 3 Ministerial Commendations for 1 Requisition from Ran Ti in Kaineng Center, then go to Zan Lei to get a lockbox. Konig/talk 14:04, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I learned after I made my previous post that Zei is unlockable, so yes, that does leave mesmer without 3. Guess I have to go complete hm. Meh. And yeah, I figured that was the only way to continue to get lockboxes. My luck has been pretty crappy for commendations though. I've gotten a total of 0 as drops. LOL. Magi 16:27, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) There's probably 2 decent options: Either Farm Cantha Courier Crisis (Hard mode) and just buy Ministerial Commendations (or lockboxes might be cheaper), or save one of the quests which give a lot of MoP mobs in small areas, (but not the quest to get to Ashu in Tahnnakai Temple - as those are resurrecting foes), I suggest Finding Jinnai - little movement, you get 2 NPC allies, and those traps. It's also one of the last quests with MoP before Reiko. Konig/talk 16:35, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

One question: are you saying the mini commendations only drop in HM quests? That's...annoying, esp. if the drop rate is anything like that for Confessor's Orders (across 6 runs with 12 players going after the Kessex trifecta, we usually get 2-3 tops). Admittedly, the implied value of mini commendations (9 = 1 lockbox) is better than for COs (45 = 1 royal gift, with arguably less exciting stuff).
Two quibbles: (1) Razah can no longer be counted as a Rit (unless it also counts as War, Ranger, ...; the whole idea is that Razah is both gender and profession agnostic). So, two profs yet to see three heroes. (Arguably, it would be more useful to have 4 Eles than 3 Sins...but that's a different question.) (2) The OP might have been referring to the elapsed duration: Chapter 1 came out in July 2011 and Chapter 3 came out in Feb 2012; so many toons have been waiting 8 months to resolve the story. (versus 4 months between the release of WiK and its resolution) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:30, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
The Ministerial Commendations should be available in NM - I merely meant that there are some quests which are allow farming MoP easier due to allies and faster aggro over time than it would be with explorables (perhaps!) and the person I was responding to has done all NM quests, therefore would have to use HM quests (or an alt).
On Razah: Fair point, but I would count him as being one of any tbh (in which case, we should need 4 of each o.o). On elapsed duration: 7 months, not 8; but I suppose that could be what the OP was referring to, though the entire earlier bit was referring to part 3 alone, so I read it as "8 months for part 3." Konig/talk 22:54, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification (and quibble-to-quibble correction). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:45, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Update[edit]

"If you want to change back to the default spawns, take Memories of Purity from the Herald of Purity in Kaineng Center"

FINALLY -Wracken 09:51, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

What determines which spawns appear?[edit]

I've recently conducted a series of tests that demonstrates that the party leader has no effect on whether the spawns are WOC or not. I didn't combine teams with players at different stages, so perhaps it's more complicated than in other parts of the game.

Most importantly, bringing a newbie toon doesn't suppress the WoC spawns, which has an impact on players wishing to help others (especially in PUGs).

  • In Minister Cho's estate, we saw scavengers with a newbie toon (only gotten as far as Ran Musu), a Factions veteran (Imperial Sanctum, but not Cleansing), and a WoC veteran (finished in NM).
  • Elsewhere, we paired the Factions vet with the WoC vet and we saw the WoC spawns in Rhea's, Morostav, Bukdek, and the Undercity.

Accordingly, I'm going to reword the note in the warnings to be more ambiguous about what determines the types of foes. The only way to be sure of seeing Factions-default spawns is if those who started WoC have taken Memories of Purity. Which spawns are present during WoC might be more complicated, but those details are more appropriately covered elsewhere. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 23:42, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

This goes against my personal experience. On CNY finale night, between finales, I helped an alliance member with Vizunah Square NM - said alliance member was lvl 17 coming out of the mission. We go into Shadow's Passage for the following quest with me as a leader and MoP mobs are in front. We go back to Dragon's Throat, I leave (kicking heroes too), said alliance member invites me, I re-add heroes, we go out and we got Afflicted.
Same goes with Bukdek Byway giving us normal Jade Brotherhood and Am Fah spawns. And obviously, all this was before Memories of Purity even existed.
Clearly there's something amiss. I know I didn't imagine the super easiness of those mobs. Let alone the jiggling blobs of exploded flesh on my screen. Konig/talk 23:59, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
I tested today, so maybe they changed a lot more during 9 Feb than just the difficulty of the normal mode spawns. But whatever they did, there was nothing we could do to avoid WoC mobs except have the WoC-toon take Memories of Purity.
I didn't try to test with toons only part-way through; I presumed that if a newbie toon could encounter scavengers in Mini Cho's and a non-WoC toon could see the MoP in the Undercity, then we didn't need to test the rest of the dozens of possibilities.
I don't have any explanation as to why you are seeing something different. I'm frustrated that ANet has left the situation unpredictable: it's a bad thing when you have to trust people in a PUG to remember where they are in a storyline before you team up on a VQ. (Even the situation that you describe, where the party leader determines the spawns is unlike the rest of the game.) Given recent responses on the Forums, I don't expect that they'll address this anytime soon. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:28, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
It's possible that what I encountered was the case during Part 2 (I recall people testing leadership in parties during part 1, but not necessarily throughout part 2), which they altered in part 3 since there's Memories of Purity (which would be stupid, imo, as it would force people to go through extra loading times, which they previously tried to reduce). Konig/talk 11:41, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
OK, I just tested some more on Shing Jea. Toon A has cleansed Morostav and toon B has a trial account and has gotten as far as Mini Cho's estate. With Memories active on A, no scavs. Without it, Scavs, no matter who was leading. I don't have any toons that are midway through the chapters, though. (I didn't test HM, since Toon B is ineligible.)
Maybe you can try to test again to see if you can replicate it. I'm hoping that it would be consistent no matter who has done what (even if it's the wrong consistency, at least it would be predictable); people shouldn't have to know the difference between Chapters 1, 2, and 3 to know whether leadership affects the spawns. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:18, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Miku or Zei Ri?[edit]

Okay, I apologize in advance if I'm missing some sort of mechanic that's explained somewhere, but from my understanding, quests can only be completed once generally, but we get the option to complete them in either normal or hard difficulty. So with that as my understanding... I have to chose between getting an Assassin or Ritualist hero? Is that correct? Also, in advance I have yet to start the Winds of Change quest chains as I'm attempting to vanquish Cantha first before I alter all the spawns. So I don't know about their ability to be repeated or anything. So any clarification about this would be appreciated. -- ᴥ GreyGhost (talk!) ᴥ 21:23, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Hard mode quests are actually a seperate quest that can only be completed in Hard Mode. Thus you can get both heroes. --Combatter 21:25, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Are the Hard Mode and Normal Mode quests available simultaneously, or do the Hard Modes need to be unlocked? Again, this is info I don't see readily available anywhere. -- ᴥ GreyGhost (talk!) ᴥ 21:42, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
All Hard Mode quests become available once you complete their Normal Mode counterparts. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 22:10, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) To unlock a HM quest, you need to complete its normal mode version and its HM prerequisite. That's the same for the HM quests introduced prior to WoC, which is why it's not covered separately.
So, in effect, you can work on the two nearly simultaneously: complete 1 → 1 (HM) → 2 → 2 (HM) etc. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:13, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
"this is info I don't see readily available anywhere."Here you go. A section on them should prbably be made on hard mode, come to think of it.
Basically, completing Cleansing Bukdek Byway makes both Cleansing Shadow's Passage and Cleansing Bukdek Byway (Hard mode) available (in regards to main story of WoC only). Completing The Final Confrontation rewards Miku, while completing The Final Confrontation (Hard mode) rewards Zei Ri. Konig/talk 00:58, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Aha, I see. I was simply uninformed of a feature put in with the 6th Anniversary Update (I blame this on the half-attention I've been paying Guild Wars lately). Fantastic, thank you all of you. -- ᴥ GreyGhost (talk!) ᴥ 02:38, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

they should make some quests optional in woc such as afflicted parts because it takes to long and repetitive. What is a good build for h/m woc?

"prior to quest completion" - table header[edit]

Bluntly I don't think that any of the zones actually change before you take and (+have active) or complete the appropriate Cleansing quest. -Chieftain Alex 23:36, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

question, which of the following does it mean:
a) Having taken the cleansing quest but not completed it yet + visting the zone (i.e. you're doing the quest while visiting)
b) Having not unlocked the appropriate cleansing quest and yet have started Winds of Change (e.g. completed cleansing Shadow's Passage and visiting the Undercity)
