A work in progress

After reading through the "featured pages project" page and the discussion about the "Mhenlo" page I was inspired by the discussion and decided to dig deeper into the history of the main characters; Devona, Cynn, Mhenlo, Aidan and Eve. If you combine every clue and hint of information that is given through various sources there is actually quite a lot of information given about them and their lives, and even more for you to fill in after reading through the lines. I've started exploring the childhood and youth of Devona, and intend to continue with the rest. After 1070AE their paths meets though, and I guess it would be more adequate to keep these stories together in one article. I was thinking about making a "lore-article" about all five; differing from the current articles by telling about their characteristics and history rather than their game mechanics.

Keep in mind that some of the information given below are just guesses based upon small clues rather than solid facts. Other information is solid facts, but calculated from reading and combining information from several different sources - which means that you may not necessarily find the same information in black and white anywhere. I've posted my references at the bottom so that you may check my sources.

Please feel free to comment on the text(s) below; point out errors made, things I've forgotten, but please do not change anything directly without my approval.

(Keep in mind that the text is unfinished, and composition includes many flaws that I am aware of. Also, the final article should of course include pictures and so forth)

Heroes of Tyria[edit]

Devona[edit]

Devona is quite serious and direct in her dealings with others. She aspires to be a great Warrior, just like her father. At times this aspiration turns into a tremendous internal pressure to succeed. Devona's father was one of the leaders of Ascalon's Chosen, a prestigious and well-respected guild. He died defending the city walls against a raid by an Orrian guild during the last Guild War. Devona was only a little girl at the time, but since that day, she has dedicated her life to mastering the martial arts of sword and hammer.

Devona is the level-headed leader of the party. She always assesses a situation before rushing in, which sometimes puts her at odds with the brash Cynn. Despite her restraint and control, Devona has a temper, and it can get the best of her. She would sacrifice her own life to save the life of a friend, and she frequently puts herself in harm's way to protect those who travel with her. Devona has a deep sense of loyalty and duty. To her, there would be no greater honor than to follow in the footsteps of her father and give her life defending that which is most dear to her.

The Guild Wars Manuscripts

Childhood[edit]

Devona was born in the year 1047 After Exodus; daughter of Mordakai, one of the leaders of Ascalon's Chosen.

When Devona was a young girl, her father fought in the Guild Wars. He gave up his life, keeping their home safe. Because of his sacrifice, she grew up to know the meaning of the word "peace".

It was in the year 1052 AE, when Devona was at the age of 5 and during the last Guild War, that her father set out to defend the fortress of Kyhlo, residence of his guild; the Ascalon's Chosen, from the orrian guild "Zealots of Shiverpeak". The Battle for Kyhlo lasted for two days, before the Zealots eventually, during the final hour, breached the inner gate and slew both their Guild Lord and finally Mordakai himself. And though he did everything in his power to keep his promise; that he'd "be back before she knew it", he failed to uphold it.

Since that day, she has dedicated her life to mastering the martial arts of sword and hammer - and to bring pride to her family heritage. She belives her father to be looking down on her from the Mists; and if he does, he truly would be proud of his daughter, whom deeds have been nothing but great, across all of Tyria.

Devona inherited many of her fathers great qualities, and to her, there would be no greater honor than to follow in the footsteps of her father and give her life defending that which is most dear to her.

Devona grew up together with her mother in Ashford in Lakeside County. They lived here in peace during Devona's childhood and youth, shielded by The Great Northern Wall, and little knowing about the evil hidden beyond it. It was in fact not before after the Searing that Devona first sat foot on, and beyond, The Great Wall.

Youth[edit]

The transition between Devona's youth and adulthood was a harsh one. It was in the year 1070 AE, at the age of 23, that unsettling rumors from "Meerak the Scribe" about powerful Charr magic first reached Devona. It was already then too late to stop the Charr invasion from happening, and before anyone could prevent it a rain of giant, burning crystals rained down from the sky upon the once beautiful land of Ascalon and Devona's home, and turned it to red dust and rock. Devona's days of peace was over, and her life was never to become the same again.

After the Searing Devona joined both the Ascalon Army and her fathers guild; the Ascalon's Chosen, where she stayed until the guild eventually dispanded after suffering great losses among it members. She remained a member of the Ascalon Army ever since together with her fellow soldiers; Aidan, Cynn and Mhenlo - even though destiny should bring them far away from their home Ascalon.

A new threat rose from the west; a malevolence that sought to destroy all her father fought for. At this time she did not know the name of this evil, but promised that the evil would soon enough know hers.

Comments on the text[edit]

Please feel free to comment below regarding my work.

You say Devona 'heritaged' many parts of her father, surely 'inherited' is a better word? O.o --Alex User AlexEternal Mr Bear.jpgEternal 12:46, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Information is good, format needs work. I suggest formatting it on this page for how it would be on others (which includes pictures, btw) so that you can just copy/past. Also, try not to have it too long, some people might find that annoying. Set your "reason for doing this" more apart from the actual rough draft of the article (like in a box or on the talk page - and move this section to the talk page.) Set your "young" and other sections with the headers such as ==Childhood== and ==Youth== instead of just CHILDHOOD and YOUTH. There are other things as well but don't want this post to be too big. -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 14:55, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Edit: I went and re-worked some formatting for you. Also included a quotation from the manual for an introduction of the section. -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 15:01, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Also, isn't this bit more suited for the Talk Page anyway? :/ --Alex User AlexEternal Mr Bear.jpgEternal 15:20, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
-does a little more re-formatting for you, Titus- Yes, it kind of does. -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 15:24, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Not trying to be ungrateful or anything; because I am grateful for the help, but as my introduction says; I am aware of the many format and text composition flaws, and that it should include pictures and so forth. I am not even surprised if you'd find an unfinished sentence within the text; because this was just my very first draft, done in notebook and copy-pasted onto wiki.
Also for the "talk page vs this page"; I first posted the whole thing at my talk page; then moved the whole thing here after being told to do so. If you'd like the "comments on the text" part to appear on the talk page, go ahead, I won't bother. As I said, I am grateful, but please - at this point - please comment on the actual statements made (or missing ones).
Since English is not my first language I am sure there'll be enough to comment on - but please; save it for later when I release a final draft.
I also apologize in advance that this site probably won't be updated at first, as I am quite busy with other things in my life at the moment. -- Titus The Third User titus the third.png 05:49, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
