Hai
First. Also, is someone else playing on your account or something, now? I think the last time I PM'd it it wasn't you, and I've been reluctant to do so since. Ryuu - talk 22:29, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
- I got a new account, ass. You have the wrong on FL'd, that was an old german friend's account who had loaned it to me but is playing it now. You've talked to me a few times on the new one, then un FL'd me. Hence I'm going to kick canadians in the face. Does that ring a bell? -- Tha Reckoning File:User Tha Reckoning Sig2.jpg 22:33, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
- I actually recall friendlisting your new one, now that you mention it. Hmmmmm. Do you actually play, or? Maybe I accidentally removed it again. Because, you had like, a non-AJish name. -_- Ryuu - talk 22:36, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
- So, to confirm. You're not online now, I can remove this guy from my list. And, I can make sure you're on my list how? Ryuu - talk 22:38, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
- Tr Goes Monk. Very non AJ-ish, as it only contains TR, initials for Tha Reckoning, my first ever GW handle. I can see how that doesn't gel with my char naming choices very well. -- Tha Reckoning File:User Tha Reckoning Sig2.jpg 22:39, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Don't do this
True, but the same goes for any "X is balanced because Y" statement. You can't prove balance, only imbalance. 83.163.190.111 13:27, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- "You can't prove balance, only imbalance. " Good lord thats like Anets slogan..--Neil • 13:30, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- I don't need to prove something's balanced, by that logic. I just have to prove it's not imbalanced. This is how a dichotomy works, and that makes it balanced. Are you Oni or Morphon, IP? -- Tha Reckoning 13:40, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- Well and that's exactly the problem. There are a billion ways in which something can be imbalanced. You'd have to check all of them and you would still never have a convincing proof because people could always come up with more. 83.163.190.111 16:22, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- That's where common sense and knowing how things actually go on in game come in handy. You get a gist of how something can feasibly be used and abused by playing and watching games, so you narrow down the imbalances. There are rules in most games that narrow down the billion ways into something manageable. -- Tha Reckoning 16:49, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- There are certainly ways to improve balance in a game (I agree with you there), but these methods rarely account for implicit imbalances. Those are the ones that are the hardest to deal with and, unfortunately, the ones that are the most numerous and hardest to predict. 83.163.190.111 17:29, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- Can you give an example of an implicit imbalance that continuing to playtest/observe matches over time wouldn't reveal? I can't think of any. Most imbalances in MMO's get widespread pretty fast. -- Tha Reckoning 18:08, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- Chess is a better example as it has been around for so long that these kind of imbalances pop up. Implicit imbalances are caused by certain pieces of information being very easy to reach, but having drastic effects on how a game plays out. Even if the counter requires less information than the problematic element, it will still cause imbalances up to the level where the ability to counter this specific strategy is widespread. An example of this on the lower levels are openings that involve an extremely early queen development. Not countering this specific strategy properly can have nasty consequences, such as losing a rook as early as move 4. Examples on somewhat higher levels include people being extremely versed in one opening (which is easily accomplished because openings have been analyzed thoroughly). If two such people with a roughly equal knowledge on the game but knowledge on different openings play each other, the one who gets into his own known opening tree will have a vast advantage. On even higher levels, this specific imbalance largely dissolves as people get the ability to forcefully transpose into openings they're more comfortable in. The subtle nature of these imbalances makes them hellish to deal with.. 83.163.190.111 18:59, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I don't see how that's subtle, or hellish to deal with, and I can't think of anything in SC2 or any other game that fits that description. -- Tha Reckoning 19:36, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- One problem is that the same thing that's causing these imbalances is also what's causing a certain amount of game-depth. The fact that the queen is allowed to be moved in the first couple of moves makes openings such as the Scandinavian opening possible. Removing this attribute will therefore also inherently have a negative impact on the game: you're removing an entire branch of play.
- Another problem is the fundamental nature of these imbalances. As a matter of fact, this same theory can be applied on the rules of a game themselves: if you know certain rules of the game that your opponent doesn't know and your opponent knows some others that you don't know, you will be at a disadvantage if you get in a situation where your set of known rules don't apply and those of your opponent do. Thus, imbalances are created up to the point where knowledge of all the rules is widespread. This may seem trivial, but it can actually be of importance if a game's rules are unnecessarily complex and fits the sentiment that games that are easy to understand but somehow still very rich in strategy, such as the boardgame Go, are notoriously well-designed. 83.163.190.111 14:17, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
- It's been a while, but I'm bored. I can't really relate anything in sc2 terms to an early queen style of play in chess because of how radically different I believe the games are. I don't agree that nerfing a few early game strategies like the 2rax shells push or the thor rush would have a negative impact on the game, because if the people aren't good enough to skillfully use standard plays to win through superior micro and macro, then why should they be allowed to win with those kinds of strategies? I feel you shouldn't relate chess to sc2 in that sense. -- Tha Reckoning 11:56, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
- Obvious examples I can think of right now are stupid things like 6pool or a worker rush. Terrible for your economy and completely unsound (just like the queen opening is terrible for your development), but deadly if not countered properly. They are imbalances, although rather trivial ones. I agree with the sentiment that it would be best if no such imbalances would exist. Unfortunately, many of these imbalances abuse mechanics you don't want to nerf/change, so those imbalances (ie, the ones that are linked to good play) will probably never fully disappear. The imbalances that CAN be fixed without removing good parts of the game are usually the ones that don't generate good play in the first place. These should be dealt with without mercy. Morphy 15:42, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Chrono Boost
50% build time increase * 20 seconds = 10 seconds shaved off whatever you use it on. Trust me. I'm always right. ~Shard 07:40, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
I read your balance ideas
And I laughed for about 10 minutes. Do you even play this game? --Silven 00:42, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
- If you mean the GW's ones, lolno. I've been doing my best to avoid terribad games. If you mean the SC2 ones (damn I'm going to regret this, people on the interwebz are so stupid) what's wrong with them, and why? If you can't come up with concrete reasons, I don't give two shits in a hankie what you have to say. -- Tha Reckoning 11:47, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
- GW ones, and it's pretty clear you don't. SC2 my brother payed for so he won't let me play ranked =( but im undefeated in about 30 games I've played in custom and against friends --Silven 22:14, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
- What are my GW ones anyway, I should go check these out. -- Tha Reckoning 02:57, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

2/10
I was going to go with 1/5 to be original, but I decided to stick with the classics and automatically converted it because I'm nerdy like that. -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 20:32, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- I mean it was at best 1/10 though, come on. I did better when I pretended not to know how many seconds were in a minute someplace. -- Tha Reckoning 03:38, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Small thing
If you're serious about your balance attempts (and confident that they're good), you're probably better off showing your mod to the gentlemen on teamliquid. As you have noticed, the official fora are infested with trolls. Morphy 19:28, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, ik right. I actually opened a thread on TL with it initially, but it just collected views and nothing else. As is it's probably just going to fizzle out and die anyway. I've just been trolling 2s with Treestomper lately anyway. I can't collect any replays, especially from masters + players, so it's just going to die down when the people are done trolling the thread, no biggie. -- Tha Reckoning 21:07, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

- Yeah, what's it like playing on Euro servers? Here is full of BM and pretty much the same cookie cutter crap over and over. -- Tha Reckoning 03:53, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- I think both husky and day9 mention this, but Euro play is second only to Korean play with respect to innovativeness. Is that even a word? Anyhow, get on back to the mainland. NuVII 11:35, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- I've heard koreans like to go for the fastest, easiest win possible, whereas the mentality in NA is that macro games are much more fulfilling. Did you get a NA account yet? -- Tha Reckoning 16:02, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

- Idra was playing pretty poorly in those games, and raging even more than his usual amount. It's not really a good example of anything other than him letting his nerves get the best of him considering he was in a good position when he gg'd from some of those games. Those matches were some of the least entertaining (skillwise anyway) of the series for me. 24.118.99.65 23:12, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
