What I like about Guild Wars[edit]
The graphics really are much nicer than any 3D mmo they seem to flow very nice. I really think the free play is great when you consider what other companies are charging. The character details are remarkable. They have fingers and hands not oven mitts! I also like the depth and detail all the stories and quests have in them. I would like to see more Vanguard Quests for the presearing community, but considering this is supposed to be just a training area, I find the amount to do here is amazing.
I love the players intelligence and manners compared to other mmo games. Other places you get the level snobs (elites). The conversation is more about how many times you beat the game and how many kills you have under your belt. Guild Wars seems to have a more relaxed player who can just chat about the randomness.
What I hate about Guild Wars[edit]
Maybe hate is too strong a word. However, I was spoiled by mail in WoW. I can't send an offline friend a message. :( I don't think adding mailbox is the best answer. If I had the ear of a GW programmer... I would put a new NPC in each town and outpost. They would be called runners. If I need to give something or message an offline friend, I could pay a runner to take it to them. Then the next time my friend enters a town or outpost the runner would approach them with my message or item. It would add a realistic element instead of WoW's magic mailboxes.
Another gripe is not so much about the game but the players. Let me ask, how hard is it people to come up with a name without being... stupid? I see people running about with drug, sex, and movie references as names. I take a moment to "think" about the name because once the character is on their way it is kind of difficult to live with something made up off the cuff. Another is, people constantly asking what the item is for the GoTH. I started yesterday replying, Tupperware or Aluminium Cans. Seriously you can't look at the front page? The other players have nothing better to do than Google stuff for you? Finally, if you are LFGM (looking for gate monkey) please stay on a price for at least 5 minutes because one will be along shortly. Don't increase your price by 50 gold every 30 seconds. If I am around and no one is charging, I do that for free.

Images[edit]
Hey there, welcome to the Wiki! Per our image policy user images need to have the "User_Wendy_Black" prefix, so I moved your images to File:User Wendy Black Baron.jpg and File:User Wendy Black Mentalice.jpg, as well as updated the links in your user page. Make sure to upload any more images with the same formatting, and feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any other questions. Thanks and have fun editing! ~FarloTalk 07:01, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you, I am very new learning how to format in wiki is hard enough. I ended uploading the first image to the wrong place altogether another wiki site! My husband told me to just follow the tutorial but the tutorial directed me on how to upload to the wiki commons and not here. Most users pages make it look easy.--Wendy Black 08:25, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Do you need any ideas to improve your userpage?[edit]
I'm new to this but alex and farlo helped me to get mine to this Thon Ghul, if you need any help farlo/alex can help you with the more complicated stuff, but i can prob. help with the more simple stuff (: ~~Thon Ghul 1:13, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
- I think her page is beautiful as it is. Plus I hate coding :< File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 02:20, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, I do like the design of your pages. I too hate all the extra coding that goes into making these pages but I am learning it pretty fast. I kind of like the subjects in colorful blocks across the top, but when I look at your code there seems to be a lot of tables and stuff that just go way over my head. Now this person has a nice page Gaile Gray but it looks too chaotic by the arrangement in my opinion. I am planing to reorganize my characters a bit. I have the 6 in total that will never go away but I want to leave at least one slot open as a pre to post runner. So I might end up with 7 but never 8. Also when I finish the guild hall I plan to post some kind of active roster. Then I am leaving the officers in charge, since I am not a management person. Also guilds and PvP seem to go hand in hand, I suck at PvP. Back to the topic, I am getting some new images uploaded and I hope not too many as you know too much eye candy can be a bad thing too. Your advice and criticism is always welcomed.--Wendy Black 06:20, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- BTW, what i hate about guildwars is the ToPK Nerf... was jsut learning it when they nerfed it ): --Thon Ghul 16:11 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Userpage[edit]
Nice job with the tab bar, looks nice, im anxous to see what your end result will be (:. P.S. tab #5 is spelt wrong i think,Triva, should be Trivia. So ya know --Thon Ghul Talk 16:55, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

- Also, something that would be nice, is if you put your multinav onto this page, so you dont need to keep clicking the back button or the user link at the top.--Thon Ghul Talk 21:25, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- OK did that, had to remove the No TOC and No Edit parts and make them per page. Good job on your use of the navbar. I just could not wrap my head around all that variable stuff in Lensor's template. My husband fixed it and then showed me how it worked also if you use the Chrome browser (I never knew this) right click on a web page you want a color from. Then choose "Inspect Element" you get split screen. There you can see colors use and formatting like this;
- width: 100%; height: auto; background: #FFCCEE; border: 1px solid #AA0088; border-top:none; border-right:2px solid #AA0088;" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="5"
- This helped when copying colors to match my characters pages. I don't use Chrome by Google, I use I SRWare Iron, it is supposed to be more private or so I am told. I made a page here User:Wendy_Black/MenuTest to test out my menus.--Wendy Black 02:32, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Menu Testing and other tools[edit]
I started a new project on my Menu Testing page today. Unless I am just horrible at searching, I cannot find anything to set a wiki image by percentage only by pixels. People don't think in pixels and I thought it would be nice to say percent. I am close to making a template but I need to pull the original image width to do so. If you are reading this go have a look.--Wendy Black 09:16, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
- I see where you are going. My current screen res is 1280x1024 but if I drop down to 1024x768 all the images are huge! So it would also be nice to resize images with the browser res but I don't think the people who thought up wiki's in general took that to mind. Wiki's are meant to be informative and educational. However it is nice when you can make cool personal pages. Thanks again for getting me started I have to go customize my colors now. --Jabhacksoul 15:23, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
- You kids and maxing the resolution on your monitors. <grin> My laptop is a 16:9 wide format but I get what you are saying. I was just interested in possibly using a percentage when editing. But as you say wiki doesn't read browser size (that I am aware of) and it would just land them in trouble like Google for violating our so-called privacy. LoL --Wendy Black 07:28, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- For those of you who make and upload screen shots as user images, you should attempt the following for the absolute best images.
- Use a friend as your "camera man", in short the worst images come from the camera you are holding because you can't get up close without losing the feet or other parts of the image. Have your buddy set his resolution as high as possible and use anti aliasing (removes the jaggies by blending the edges). Have him zoom in all the way until he is in first person mode. Find a place with a nice background and have him use shift+prt scrn to snap off about a dozen or more shots. Your friend can then email them to you.
- No friends? How sad. Then your next best bet is to use Photoshop or Gimp. Take a shot of something cool for your background then pose your character up against a neutral wall take a few shots. Make sure your facing the same direction and angle or the lighting will be off. Layer your character into the background and you should have a decent image.
- Crop all your images the same size. I have been updating mine with 500x900 pixels. Then using 270px on the sized image for my character sheets.
- Note: There is a camera unlock program available on the wiki but it still tracks to your character and does not give you a true free camera mode. So at present the best you can do is what we do in real life, have a photographer take the shot.--Wendy Black 05:56, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Making Tables[edit]
I see my friend The Dervish of Ascalon has built a sandbox and is playing with editing tables. I love it when people teach themselves. I really like the side bar format he is working on there.--Wendy Black 18:37, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
Old users with new pages[edit]
Well I assisted 2 old users with making up brand new pages. Dervish of Ascalon and Jabhacksoul are now actively building new subpages of their own. Both are currently with [TIF] The Imaginary Friends guild. Be sure to check those out. --Wendy Black 04:30, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Beggers will beg[edit]
OK, I hate to sound like an old cranky person, but I never liked players who wonder up to a group in ANY MMO game and just start begging. Last night some player, asked for free black dye. Some assumed he was joking, while others assumed he was ignorant to the cost. I told him, if you want black dye, run the catacombs. Some of the veteran players thought I was out of it. I took off and ran the catacombs. I admit the Baron is a level 20 but he has no imp and no pet. I ran the whole thing and killed everything. Grabbed all the items I could carry and I came out with 678 in gold 3 purple dyes and 1 yellow. That might not be black dye but take 8K and divide by roughly 700 in a dozen runs you will either hit black dye or have enough to buy some. Every time I have stumbled into black dye. It was mostly in the catacombs. The rest was oddly enough with the Grawl in the Utini Wupwup mission.--Wendy Black 12:19, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Signature[edit]
If you wanted to make a neat signature, ive gotten some help from a user on gw2w and have saved the codes to my userpage, feel free to use em and see if you like it. (: Thon Ghul Talk 01:22, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
- I might not use them myself but I will be sure to add them on my MenuTest page for others to see how they work. At the present user Jabhacksoul noted he was having a problem messing with different resolutions and image width on his pages. I never gave it much thought but images are not scaled to browser width but pixels. So he was showing his page off at college and the college PC has low resolution. His images distort the page. Since wiki code is limited, I just told him to do his best. I see that you used an offset shadow. I might fiddle it a bit...Wendy Black 05:18, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Templates tutorial[edit]
Hello, I just followed you by reading Farlo's talk page. I have 2 months active in wiki and im trying to learn as much as I can, as fast as I can. But template coding is a total new world for me. I have read many many many pages but they all go in directions too far away of my interests. I could use some help for the Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/AI skills usage. I want to make templates that can detail heroes set-ups User:Yoshida_Keiji/My_default_heroes to look like the NPC templates. User TEF has shown me a mock-up here User_talk:Yoshida_Keiji/Sandbox. I want to learn Template making so that I won't need to ask others to create for me and better, I can customize myself. So far this is as much as I can do User:Yoshida_Keiji/Favourite_Quotes. And if I get to understand and make progress, I would love to create character templates, I am currently using Wynthyst's but not very happy, they suit me until I get more knowledge. I have trouble to organise for example, dont want pet display, would prefer image take more space and transfer titles and userboxes to another section, better gallery display of armor and weapons, etc. Are you up for this? Yoshida Keiji talk 00:30, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hello Keiji, I haven't had much experience with templates, but I will be more than happy to teach you what I do know. A template is used to pass the same format for many pages or it can be used to calculate math functions. I learned a lot from this page; [Category:Templates] by looking at the actual code of those templates. I will post a tutorial on templates and look at what you have done. Meanwhile I do have the one template that sizes an image by percent. Not very useful since you need to tell it the original size.--Wendy Black 19:10, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
See if I missed anything[edit]
I just updated my pages, Foolish Hero is not complete. I added icons and change my wetbar to work at the bottom of all the character pages and top of the rest. I included my sandbox (something you need to do) and my talk page. Are we going to start recruiting a real guild or just keep it the 3 of us? Also as a side note; Honey Badger was selling weapons in Ascalon yesterday when some person asked if he had any greens... To which I replied, "You mean charr bags and kits?". They said no, green weapons. I just said, nope. I wonder how long he has been playing the game. Sales are going good, I have collected about 3p for all the junk.--Dervish of ascalon 17:25, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
- Nothing looks out of place. But why the navbar at the bottom? I would leave that at the top on all the pages. Also "Hired Guns" is on both the vertical and horizontal navbars.--Wendy Black 02:24, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- When I placed it at the top the page jumps down on my main page. The reason for this bouncy action was/is this return link
< User:Dervish of ascalon
added on the other pages. This pushes those pages down by 20px so I added margin-top:20px; to my first page and this fixed the bounce. But placing a navbar on top makes it all jumpy again. So I placed the navbar at the bottom instead. Hired Guns was going to be part of my characters but I decided my page is ok with all of them right there in one spot. I left it on the side bar in case I add another of my characters to this list.--Dervish of ascalon 18:54, 7 March 2012 (UTC)- Ok that makes sense now. I just fixed my menu bar "Multinav" now has
an absolute top of 55pxa static variable sent or the value defaults to zero. This means I have to set the others to absolute values but took out mine bouncing up and down. --Wendy Black 19:07, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Well now I feel awful.[edit]
I misinterpreted what you were saying on Gaile's talk page as brushing me off when you were being sincere, so I'd like to apologize. Should have been less quick to judge, but I typically associate phrases like "thank you for your opinion" with sarcasm. Sorry about that. --ஸ Kyoshi 05:01, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hey don't feel bad, I know trolls abound these days on the internet always wanting to start conflict. They sometimes pretend to take your side or be of assistance, just to plunge the dagger in your back. I mainly try to avoid them but sometimes I feel I must "have my say" and that just seems to make them all the more aggressive. Sad that most trolls don't even realize they are trolls. Oh, Thanks for stopping by my place. --Wendy Black 14:56, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
