Paws to Ponder: Are you on the right page? This page is for casual discussions and chit-chat -- all are welcome! You should choose the Support Issues page for matters you'd like me to help with as ArenaNet Support Liaison, but please see the note below for info on how the Support Liaison role fits into the big picture. For older discussions, check the right-hand nav bar for archives on various topics. And I'd sure appreciate if you sign your comments, in case I need to get in touch with you. Thank you. :)

[edit] How does this Support Liaison thing work?

The support team can help you with many things, including lost passwords, technical issues, in-game behavior concerns, or questions about a stolen or blocked account. If they have an unusual issue -- something that needs studio or Dev Team consideration or a possible policy review -- they'll ask me to get involved. I'll review the matter and help get it resolved. But the first stop is Support, for they can help with the vast majority of issues.

Game Bugs: The best way to get a bug into review is also through contacting Support. You could also use the wiki pages for Bugs, off of the Feedback portal.

Game Exploits: If you learn of a game exploit, please email me (use the "email this user" tab to the left) and I'll move the matter forward. (Please do not post exploits on the wiki or in fan forums, for obvious reasons.)

Support FAQs: Please visit the Support FAQs Section for info on specific topics that Support deals with often. Visit that discussion page to make a suggestion for a new topic, too!

Ticket Tips: If you'd like to know precisely what to tell Support, and how to get the fastest service for any issues you may experience, head here.

As Support Liaison, I try to assist individual players and the community as a whole, and help make the game a better place to be. I welcome your feedback and comments at any time.

Bows you still need:

I looked at your list and thought wow alot of bows but how many do you still need so I thought make I list for you.(ps. There are some recurve bows without the bow name in the list, I changed this for you there also is a bow which doesn't exist. Koren’s longbow doesn’t exist does this need to be Koren’s Hornbow? At the moment you have 54 gold bows, 53 green bows + because you got a normal golden wintergreen bow but this is a greeny. I changed that too. So in total you have 107+1(wintergreen) bows out of 159total ingame bows. So you still need 51 bows. There are also some bows you dont have but they are only getable as blue one's and you got the 20golden bows from the bonus mission pack who are only costumized tradeable. Greetings Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 16:30, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

This is incredibly helpful, DS. I'm going to take a look at the questions you've posed and see how I can incorporate this. I will also try to carve out time to go through all my storage girls to see if I happen to have a bow or two that I have not listed. I will be happy to have this as a point of reference. It's a very helpful tool to have, and thanks for putting it together! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 04:53, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Gaile I have the following Greens Deldrimor Short Benwah's Recurve Koren's Horn pm me in game Spike Firemane so I can give u the bows

Dont forget to delete them out of the list Gaile or Spike Firemane. Don't know what gaile wants, when it is received:P. But it needs to be updated.Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 00:37, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
This is quite the fun project. I'm currently pulling up all my storage girls and checking to see what I have that I've just forgotten to update. I will use strikethrough for now, so that I can update the main page. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:04, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Spike -- I added you to my friend's list. I see you're not online just now, but I will do my darnedest to remember to come on at different hours to meet with you. It's very kind of you to offer those bows! :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:04, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Spike. Thanks a lot for your kindness. And congrats on your title track -- it's very impressive that you've gotten so far in just around one year. Let me know when you hit GWAMM. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:56, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Gaile, I have a spare oldschool gold q10 <+15 stance> Zealous Jade Longbow that you're more than welcome to have. As a longtime ranger, I also have a soft spot for bows, and I love that you're collecting all of them. My absolute single most treasured GW possession is my q9 Dryad Bow. That is one of the most amazing bow skins I've seen, not only in GW, but in any game I've ever played.AnClar 04:14, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi AnClar. Regular Jade, not Longbow? Yes, I do need that and would love to have it IF it is an extra. :) (The Dryad bow was, as I recall, a winner in one of the contests a few years ago -- I agree, it's just gorgeous!) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 21:52, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you mean by "regular" Gaile. I thought the Jade Bow only came in the longbow variety. If not then after over 4 years playing GW, I learned something new.  :-). What I have is a Jade Longbow, and it is a spare so if it is the one you need, it's yours. If not, please excuse this grasshopper's humble ignorance. AnClar 04:48, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Oh man, I have been awful about keeping this up to date. I just poked through a bunch of inventories and did my best to update the list yet again. Now, the list of things I have is here. I mean, I think it's up to date. :)

The list of bow I need is above, and again, I'm trying to update but I have a feeling I need to do another check soon.

The kind offers of bows and updates in this thread warm my heart. Let me try to respond:

@AnClar -- I confess I'm confused about the Jade Bow and Jade Longbow issue. Both are listed on the wiki, in the Jade weapons category. So I assumed there were both. But I sort of suspect they are one and the same. I do have a Jade Longbow, but thank you kindly for the offer. (Can anyone confirm there's a Jade Bow as well?)
@Katherinezoltin, DeathSligher, Spike -- Thanks again. :)
@Firemane -- Is the Darksteel Longbow a gold or green? I confess I can't remember. Wiki says it cannot be stored in the Xunlai Chest -- that's a point of trivia I had completely forgotten. I do not have one.
@Koreena -- Yes, I still need Inallay’s Hornbow.

Thanks, all! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 06:22, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Mutual Account Sharing

I've scanned most of the archive(s) for a clear answer, but I've either missed or simply not otherwise seen a blunt yes or no. My wife and I are newly married. We've each had our own account since before our marriage. We obviously share. When one of us is unavailable for a decent amount of time, for whatever reason, and the other is playing, and would like to use something we know the other has, we typically log in to the other's account and enlist a trusted third-party to transfer whatever it is we want. To be honest, we also occasionally switch account usage for fun. This method of account sharing between the two of us is mutual, and would be confirmed as such if ever asked of either of us. However, from time to time, we receive news of others whose accounts have been banned due to account sharing. Regardless of mutuality and the best of intentions, should we stop? 76.106.245.213 17:48, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

generally your not to do that. it goes against the ELUA if I remember correct. but because you aren't doing anything malicious then I honestly see no problem with it... I know someone will comment. I also suggust looking on the new official support forums, I believed it has been answered there Ocren
Did so, just now. I searched the forum for a clear answer to the circumstances and found none, so I submitted my inquiry. EULA states "Only one person may use an account." That is quite blunt and leaves no room for exception. Thank you for your time. Now, however, I would like to ask of Gaile her thoughts on the matter. Unfortunately, the Account Support section of that forum seems the closest to but still an inappropriate place for such a discussion. The same applies here. Where would be best to ask of her opinion? 76.106.245.213 04:49, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
Probably send a PM on the forums. If you've made a post, then someone from the ANet staff will get to it regardless, but Gaile will definitely get it if you send her an email or a PM.
However I'm going to give you my two cents on the issue here. If more than one person is allowed to use an account, then it's more difficult to tell when someone's account has been hacked or if it's simply being used by another authorized party. And if the ownership of the account is disputed between the multiple parties when something happens with the account, it just gets worse. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 17:06, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
That is understandable. When there is more than one person using an account, by their own choosing, they cannot simply say "Someone else is using my account, please fix it." I understand that the process becomes more trouble than it is worth when you have to make certain allowances and distinguish between those allowances and the malicious party. I'm embarrassed that I hadn't considered that scenario. We'll be sure to stop doing so. Thank you for your input. 76.106.245.213 00:44, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
I feel I must point out that there is a big difference between mutual sharing at the same house compared to an account hack. I allow my wife to use my account if she so desires (She hardly does), and it is pretty much the same as you logging them on and walking away from the computer. The IP is the same, no random locations for login, and hacking is normally done to multiple accounts from the same IP. On their end they can see all the logins and where they were done from, but mutual sharing of this type wouldn't make checking for a hacker any harder. Just my two cents. --Kairu 16:21, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately, we don't play on the same computer because we usually play together. So, while close/similar, the IP isn't the same. 76.106.245.213 16:25, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
I assume you use a router? That would make your IP's identical to their system. Anyway, they won't care about different IP's. You forget that people play at public places like Collage Campuses all the time, and the IP's will change every time you connect to the network. There will also be many users with the same IP. You also travel, and use different computers, it's normal for the IP to change anyway. :P --Kairu 17:02, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
That's the problem. Since she plays on a laptop, she can take it anywhere. In doing so, the IP address used to log in may change. I don't want to bring any unfavorable attention to that. 76.106.245.213 17:43, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
Mkay, this is the last I'm going to say because I'm starting to feel like I'm trying to force you guys to share, which is not what I am trying to do. The scenarios out there that are completely legit according to EULA overshadow small time sharing between a husband and wife. The main reason sharing is frowned upon so furiously is because people tend to share a single account, or share their password with a then friend who screws them over at a later time. While it is in the EULA that sharing is not allowed, I'm sure you will get an unofficial "That's fine" or an official "That's fine as long as you don't come crying when the person sharing your account screws you over". It's the same with TexMod. --Kairu 19:23, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Okay. Thanks again for the help. 76.106.245.213 00:34, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I want to clear up some misconceptions that might have been left by the above.

The short version is that ANet is never going to say that account sharing is okay, regardless of the circumstances. However, neither are they going to target people for sharing. The only time we should expect them to act is when there are other violations. In more detail:

  1. On the official forums, Gaile specifically said, "You are essentially asking me to sanction that which we do not sanction, and I trust you’ll understand I couldn’t (and wouldn’t want to) do that." In other words, ANet will never tell you it's okay to share accounts.
  2. EULA aside, most countries/states/provinces have laws that give spouses communal ownership of property, including all sorts of accounts. I'm not sure that ANet can have a policy that bans spouses from sharing.
  3. In the above, Gaile points out that the only time that ANet cares about account sharing is when there's an issue, e.g. one player does something wrong, or there's a bad break-up, or whatever. When there is an issue, ANet will not be sympathetic to the but someone else used my credentials argument.

Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:43, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the clarification. That's the gist of what I was trying to explain. And I hadn't seen the official reply. --Kairu 18:45, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Thank you, indeed. That was what I was trying to have clarified. 76.106.245.213 04:15, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the links and synopsis, TEF. Helpful, as always. I'd just like to add one thing: A married couple accessing one another's account is one thing. It's not allowed, but it's not inherently evil. After all, they own their own accounts, they're extremely unlikely to get involved in an account ownership dispute, and they're not trying work-arounds that inflict unfair costs on the company. People who share an account to avoid paying for the game are a costly element, because not only are we paying more for bandwidth and other associated costs in keeping that account running, but those sorts of shared accounts are likely to incur very high support costs when they go into account dispute (and, just FYI, often ended up terminated.) Word to the wise: The game is free to play -- buy your own copy!!  :) --- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:34, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
There are only so many ways I can thank someone. I'm running out of things to say. ^_^; 76.106.245.213 20:41, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
Hey, we're good. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 21:19, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

[edit] gamerevision

Hi, Gaile,
just recently I was told you could — cosmetically and client-only — obtain a GM tag. Since I was interested in how it worked I looked some things up. During my search I stumbled over [edited to remove link]. That's horrible and in each and every way unacceptible! If you browse the rest of the forum you'll see many a people buying/selling bots, items and accounts (there was a Zaishen Rank 12 account being sold for like 400€). Please, do something about that since I now cannot trust any stranger on the servers ): 88.152.25.23 04:33, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

It's awesome that you found this group, but it may be more quickly received by the support team if you send them the link through support. I'm not exactly sure if they can do anything based on a forum, but it couldn't hurt :D ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 04:45, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
Awesome? It's aweful! ):< I powertraded to like 8,500 and these people just buy that within the blink of an eye for some 150 €. 88.152.25.23 04:47, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
I understand your concern. But the last thing I want is to host a link on my page to a site that encourages people to breach the User Agreement through the purchase of in-game goods. Most of the promoters and advertisers are far more interested in stealing your account than in making a few bucks selling you ectos. And both account theft and in-game item sales are wrong. The point is, between "give me your credentials so I can add your gold to your account and avoid detection" and the various Trojans, key loggers, and other identity-thieving properties that these companies and individuals slip into the system, the sales, or "sales," are dangerous on many levels. Two things are very common: (1) Purchase gold or in-game items and get your account terminated for doing so; or (2) make a purchase and find your account was stolen by the person to whom you gave your money. (There's an irony there, pay someone to steal your account? It happens!)
Our support team is more than happy to hear about these promotions and will whatever action is appropriate and feasible. In addition, I accept emails through this wiki. And either of those options would be the means to get us information about these sites, just as you should use those means of communication to share information about exploits, cheats, and hacks. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:32, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for the link, although I didn't realize it was an advertisement because it was not uploaded by the original poster, and it contained no instructions on how to download the program. Could you please clarify why it was deemed "not allowed," does it actually steal account information?--204.45.13.74 20:11, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Quick Question

In March 2008 you said "However, it seems doubtful that we will have info for a few months" regarding the GW2 beta. Seeing how it has been a few months, I have but one question.

Will this game ever be released?

Thanks for your time. 76.176.221.100 01:13, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

I'm going to assume you took that as saying "we'll have beta in a few months" rather than "we'll have a better idea of when we want to do beta in a few months." Did you really think the beta would happen in 2008-2009, when not a single profession had been revealed yet? [edit] Cape Emblems/Designs

Hey G-Morning Gaile/All :P, (Since its am here atm)

Anyways am gunna start by saying I'm not sure if these should be posted here but anything is worth a shot I guess :P, I was wondering if it was possible to ask if there was any way that we could get some new cape emblems/styles added to GW1 before release of GW2?, or would it be too late into the games History?.

I've been playing for an avid 6yrs and still love the game to bits (with over 27k hrs I should do right? :D) but I'm now starting to find it hard to come up with cape designs for special events such as Halloween, Pink Day etc... So would it be at all possible to request some new designs or emblems?.

Thanks in advance and sorry if I'm rambling on I'm never usually up at this hour xD!!. PS <3 you Gaile "Rangargh Powargh!!!!" --Find And Seek User Find And Seek sig.png 06:37, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

At one point I figured we had a lot of cape designs, in fact, I believed we surely had enough. But sure, we've all been playing a long while and more might be nice. If you'd like to see more, I agree that you should post the request on the Suggestions page. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:23, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit] AutoHotKey and macros

I looked around and couldn't find anything on this. For simple macros, like using two skills in order when you click one, or swapping weapon sets when using a specific skill, do you still see it as a violation of the EULA/ToS? — Skakid 18:46, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

a search with the keyword "macro" brought up these two from gaile's pages.

Even so, it gives you an advantage that other players don't have because it's not something offered by the game itself. They haven't been very clear about where they draw the line, but I assume Gaile will say "no" on this one because, even if for a split-second, the game is being played by your computer instead of with your own skills. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 01:45, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Anything that automates the game or gives another player an advantage is disallowed. I think the answers here, and my previous comments, probably fully address the question. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:30, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
So what about people who bought gaming keyboards/mice with built-in macros? I thought the rule was that you cannot use anything that allows you to move away from your keyboard. If you use a macro to, for example, switch weaponsets while in a fight by pressing Escape+F2 for you, anyone can do it themselves anyway. The difference is you bought a macro mouse for hardcore PvP. Minion 18:43, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
No. "Moving away from the keyboard" doesn't quite cover it, when someone can tab out of the game and still be at the keyboard and posting on Facebook while "playing the game." The process of automating gameplay beyond what the game allows is where things get delicate. The OP asked if I considered using a macro to automate weapon swaps or skill patterns a violation of the UA. Yes, I do, because it gives an advantage, in that one player is doing it all manually and someone else can be sitting back sipping a cup o' tea while the game "plays" through the use of macros. Since the question asked my personal viewpoint, I gave it. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:05, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] My New Keyboard

Been searching all over the wiki for an answer on this and finally decided it fits here best. I just purchased a new keyboard (Logitech G105) that comes with a driver allowing you to assign multiple keystrokes to a single key. Seeing that the player is at the machine playing and not "off sipping tea" as you said above. Is this ok to use? Because in my opinion it would give me an unfair advantage in PvP by allowing me to do multiple tasks at once. On the other hand anyone willing to spend the money could buy the same keyboard. I am not using this driver at present but thought about using it in PvE only for casting spells back to back. Since this is the way the manufacturer made this keyboard to function, I don't know if I should install the "extras" or not. Thanks! --Jabhacksoul 02:12, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit] New Login Screen?

Could you possibly ask the live team if there's any chance of a new log-in screen? No offense to Mr. Soule, but I'm getting tired of hearing those darned trumpets every time I open the game, and there are more locations in EotN than just the Far Shiverpeaks... It's been almost 4 years... please? :D 76.247.216.184 23:12, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Put it in the feedback space. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 23:28, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
The high number of resources necessary for a new log-in screen -- art, programming, graphic/interface design, etc. -- make it highly unlikely that a new screen will be rolled out. Still, you are welcome to search the feedback section, search for this suggestion (which has been made multiple time before), and add your comments. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:26, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

As a new user to the wiki with a very n00b question, I was hoping to email you and maintain what little dignity I had rather than posting my ignorance for the world to see; however, the wiki's had other ideas. Although I've scoured the FAQ and Help Center for info regarding emailing on the GWW system, I've failed. Even the almighty Google could not help me! [edit] Official "Go To Guy" ?

I am still very new here on the wiki. However I have lots of time on my hands for reading these days, and I read that you are somewhat the official "Go To Guy" or gal in this case. I have posted a feedback on (what I consider to be important) change about the current game. I don't know how difficult that would be to produce. My husband said it would require mostly changes to the database and mechanics of the game. :P Oh and if you have time, could you look over this map and make sure I haven't renamed something already "officially" named? Thanks --Wendy Black 05:22, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Gaile isn't the go-to for feedback reading. The devs look at the feedback pages and will implement your suggestion if they think it's a feasible/useful addition. Also, you could just search the wiki for each thing you named on that map. Never mind, I read that part wrong. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 18:52, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your input Kyoshi, but to clarify what I was stating, it was said, Gaile Gray is employed by the company as a liaison. She is the contact by which communications, between the company the users are made. I don't know if a programmer has time (especially with them busy with the new game) to browse the wiki. I thought that if Miss Gray has the time to read my short paragraph, she might know of someone inside the company who would be interested in such a project. I didn't mean to offend anyone by saying that she was responsible for all the feedback or that users should contact her about feedback. I was told by my husband (who is a programmer) that it would be a bigger project than just changing a few lines of code and that the request would most likely be ignored. In my opinion she is not obligated to even respond to my posting. But thank you for your opinion Kyoshi.--Wendy Black 20:21, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Gaile is the support liaison. Stuff to do with game accounts, basically. The role you're describing is a community manager (which Gaile used to be before moving to the support liaison gig some years ago, and is now filled by Stephane Lo Presti, Regina Buenaobra, and Martin Kerstein).
As for suggestions, the feedback namespace on the wiki was created in concert with the ArenaNet team specifically for the purpose of having an organized place for them to read suggestions. They have stated on many occasions that they do in fact read it (though they do not generally take the time to respond), so rest assured that whether your suggestions are implemented or not, they are seen. - Tanetris 02:14, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
Per Tanetris. In addition, if your feedback is being "ignored" (or rather, if the devs look at it and decide it's not viable/useful) then they simply can't do it or don't want it as a feature in their game. Appealing to Gaile wouldn't change that. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 17:10, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
Ok you guys can stop beating her up with the 2 by 4, she caved in with last post. :D --Jabhacksoul 01:22, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
Strange, snarky back-talk like "thank you for your opinion" usually indicates just the opposite of caving in. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 01:42, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
No beating up intended on my part (and I apologize if it came off that way, Wendy); just tossing some information around. Knowledge is power and so forth. - Tanetris 09:11, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
Please allow me to apologize, if I came off being short tempered or irritable, I did not mean it to sound insincere. Sometimes language is a difficult barrier to master, even with the advanced translation equipment available. Also I apologize for the user Jabhacksoul, he obviously believes I need defending in some manner, when I can offer my own opinion. While it is true, I did not plan to reply back to any statements made, unless I had heard back from Gaile herself. I was obviously initially interested in her opinion, since this is her talk page. If my behavior was inappropriate, immature, or lacked the respect intended, I am sorry for my actions and I hope that we can put this matter behind us. If you have any thoughts in this, please feel free to share. You may contact me on my user talk page at your convenience. --Wendy Black 00:41, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Hi Wendy. My apologies for not responding earlier! I note that your suggestion was made before the last Closed Beta Test. [edit] RMT Still bad if it's not for GW

Lately I've seen some bots spamming for a certain site that sells D2 and WoW items, but nothing for Guild Wars. I suppose that's still considered spam and is reportable, but I'd like to make sure. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 23:24, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

This is a bit late, but! To save you the time of waiting for a response, I can say quite safely that advertising RMT websites for other games isn't something a player should be doing. This is outlined in several locations of the user agreement, here
Section 4, Subsection "j"
"In the Game(s), characters have the privilege of sending server wide messages called "Chat Messages." With this privilege comes a high level of responsibility on the part of the user. Due to the fact that this communication channel has the ability to impact every player on the server, NC Interactive will not tolerate any inappropriate behavior of any sort in this chat channel. This includes but is not limited to: inappropriate language of any sort or any attempt to escape the profanity filter, inappropriate or vulgar content of any sort, repeated "spamming," or "flooding" of the chat messages channel, or any other conduct determined to be inappropriate by NC Interactive Support, in its sole discretion."

Section 6, Subsections iii, iv, v, and vi can also arguably cover such behavior. In the sense that advertising an RMT website promotes violating the EULA of another company, it isn't illegal per say, but it's definitely not something one should do. At the very least, Subsection vi covers it.

The rules of conduct can also be used in a case like this, specifically items 4, 5, 8, 11, and 12 (12 is ambiguous as to which game these in-game services apply to, so it works.)
And, finally! Guild Wars takes a rather strong stance against RMT behavior in general, as outlined in the Real Money Trading Policy.

So, in short: Advertising an RMT website is probably a bannable offense, regardless of whether or not that website is for Guild Wars. Of course, this is just my interpretation of things, so I absolutely could be wrong here, but I hope it helps! If in doubt, reporting player behavior never really hurts anybody anyway, so long as such reports aren't frivolous and consequently clog the system. 161.184.141.211 15:11, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
It is totally bannable IMO. Any direct violation to the rules of conduct or user agreements is bannable at Anet's discretion. Considering that it violates multiple items in both documents, I would say report all RMT website advertisers and let Anet sort them out. --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg16:57, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Here's the short answer: Yes, it's entirely disallowed by the UA and the RoC and we'd like to learn about it. Please report via /report (choose spamming) or submit a support ticket. Advertisers really break the immersion of a game and we'd like to deal with them, no matter what product the offer. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 23:53, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Smarter to report a bot for leeching than botting ???

I really was wondering if the title makes sense. Everyone that plays JQ these days, knows it's swarming with bots, for AT LEAST several weeks now. ANet is not doing much about it or takes a VERY long time to take action against them (the fact that most bots still do their programmed thing, after being reported numerous times for more than a month is proof to that). Reporting for botting only leaves a message with ANet's GM team, reporting for leeching bypasses any real human being, and with enough reporters it actually has effect instantly!

ANet, I suggest adding in a similar system for botting reports (next to the functionality it has already). Or players: I think we should start reporting the bots for leeching, instead of botting, or for both! -62.163.189.137 17:01, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

You can do both. Doing so will increase their penalty points, making the bot ineffective for a set duration. But I noticed that some people who act like bots just aren't paying attention when playing, like watching a tv show etc. I'm not sure partial participation counts as leeching tho. At IP, you accidentally edit conflicted out my edit :P so becareful.--Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg17:41, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
"But I noticed that some people who act like bots just aren't paying attention when playing, like watching a tv show etc." I know it can be sometimes quite dificult to easily recognize a bot during battle. But, it's REALLY easy to recognize one while in the outpost. I guess their scripts are something like 'C', 'SPACE', 'C', 'SPACE', etc. Or in other words, it will follow you or any other closest character while in an outpost! Just walk around in an outpost and check if there's someone that sticks to you like glue. Furthermore: when they arrive in the outpost, they always check the Imperial Faction NPC first followed by the Faction Rewards NPC and/or the Tournament NPC. After that, they will do their sticking part! That's obviously not normal behaviour for a human being, not even when watching a tv-show or eating dinner, or something. -62.163.189.137 16:13, 24 March 2012 (UTC)
It truly is critical that we make sure that we're dealing with bots and not simply inattentive players, or those who have gotten into a routine that, while not botting, exhibits repeated patterns of behavior. I've pointed out these discussions to the Live Team and to some of the Customer Support leads. We will all work together to try to find a means to address this issue while continuing to help those who get in touch with reports of account issues, scams, harassment/player misbehavior, cheats, exploits, game bugs, and more. Our staffing numbers are reasonable but not overabundant, so as with any company, we focus o0n addressing every matter of importance -- of which this is one -- while placing our resources wisely. That's paramount as we examine the myriad needs of our valued community. Thanks for understanding. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 01:50, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
What is really sad is that I have seen people code bot AI in such a way that it plays better than some real humans. Not only that but they are really hard to spot/tell if they are bots or not because they've added a chaotic element to the AI, making them behave in some random way. There are some CUDA or GPU accelerated AI that can act in very sophisticated ways, and respond to questions with intelligent and coherent sentences (you have to have a conversation to tell if its a AI or not). These are still very uncommon and limited but I can see how bot-detection in the future is going to be even more difficult. --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg19:16, 02 April 2012 (UTC)
By the way things are going GW2 will not need to design enemy bosses nor new races to fight, we will be outnumbered by bots, and when we properly complain about it...ANet will say: "-We are very sorry but, we have little resources because 95% of the staff is working on GW3.-" So all players can get screwed for another 3 years... [edit] Please Help Us

Hello, Gaile.

I know you're very busy, and I know you're no longer the Customer Relations Manager, but this really falls under both support and customer relations - so I thought I'd go to you.

The impending release of GW2 is top of the priority tree for ANet. I think we all understand that.

But the way things are going in GW, it really feels like nobody actually cares about those of us who will be left behind when GW2 launches.

As it is now, JQ is overrun by bots, as you well know, and nothing seems to get done about it. I see the same bots constantly - bots that get reported constantly. Spend any time at all in JQ lobbies and you'll start hearing the humans complain about the botting that doesn't seem to have anything done about it.

JQ is no longer fun. It's tedious and boring. For over five years GW held my attention and kept me wanting to log in. Now, I come in once a day to go into JQ because I'm so disillusioned over what I see as a sweeping under the carpet of people who - for whatever reason - just don't want to move to GW2. And that makes me not want to bother logging in to GW at all.

The latest example of what appears to be a trend of leaving anyone who doesn't move to GW2 in the dust is the login page.

It used to tell us what was happening in GW. It told us what the weekend event was. It gave us helpful information.

Now it's an ad to buy GW2, and the notice that support for older versions of Windows is being discontinue (this notice being there for weeks).

Do you guys still care about us? Will you care about us when GW2 comes out?

Maybe it's just hectic with GW2 coming. Maybe ANet still cares about GW and the people who still play it, and will continue to after GW2 launches. But honestly? Right now, it's really not feeling that way.

I really hope I'm wrong, and hope you can help at least with the JQ problem. For some of us, we've done everything else and would just really like to earn our titles while having fun. This isn't fun.

Thank you.

~Ubaid Panahasi

A simple solution to prevent bots from entering JQ (and FA and RA) is to implement some sort of CAPTCHA test that has to be answered before one can click the "Enter Mission" button. --24.212.128.151 07:17, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
So the player has to check the game every few minutes to get their bot into a game. Doesn't do much. Besides which, a captcha to enter a mission would get very very annoying for real players after a while. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 14:00, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Whoever is this IP that posted the CAPTCHA idea, I totally liked and support it. The 7th Anniversary new pet (crap present) plus the GW2 pre-realese sale don't really bring much of a good vibe. But ANet doing something that "really" feeds...back... to their players pool would be better welcomed. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 14:33, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

I love this idea. It might mean getting into PvP is a little more tedious, but it'd be marginally so - especially when compared to the gameplay improvement of NOT having to deal with bots in a match.

As to the pet being "crap," well, it kind of is if you don't have a ranger (or a ranger secondary) that you can get it on during the "limited edition" run. On the other hand, as a Nuker, it's kind of nice to have my fiery hellhoud out with me doing stuff. I named him Deathy. Deathy: The Hellhound that only loves! LOLO

My brother accidentally signed me up for GW1 five years ago with @hotmail.com instead of @hotmail.co.uk and once we found out, we tried contacting support, but to no avail. Hi, I'm Dee (Big from PvX) and my Guild Wars account was permabanned almost 2 years ago. I've all but given up on getting it back, but I was wondering if there's any way possible that I could link it to my GW2 account. I recently purchased it (Beta FTW), and I am most definitely interested in connecting the accounts. I'm not here to plead for my account back, though that would be wonderful, but I'm here to get some clarification on how to connect the two. I tried emailing support and all I get is an automated response. Thanks ahead of time! -- Dee Strongfist 01:44, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

About a day or so now. -- Dee Strongfist 16:28, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Gaile has said that support should respond within three business days (during Pacific Time; this can be appear longer if you live in another time zone). However, the best way to reach her is through the official Support Forums — if it comes to that, post there (I believe even perma-banned can do so) and include the ticket number and a short note.
I read in one of the official FAQs that banned accounts cannot be linked to GW2 (I apologize, I cannot find the specific text right now). In my opinion, the best use of your time would be to either attempt to appeal the original ban or to consider plunking down US$20-25 for Prophecies and EotN (you can reach HoM/30 within a few weeks of highly focused effort, especially if you have help from friends willing to run you). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:32, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

I want to appeal but I doubt it'll matter at this point. -- Dee Strongfist 21:16, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

[edit] How to detect JQ bots

User Yoshida Keiji Botwatch 005.jpg

...without depending exclusively on players reports?

Use a mechanisn alike Isle of the Nameless NPCs, but incorporate it to the Guard Post to function this way:

  • How many times does a same character attack this target.
    • How many battles has it being doing it for?
      • Create a list of character with this pattern and double check by ANet personel.

Can ANet show that they still care about their players base prior GW2 release? User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 12:53, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
