Is there any way you can turn this into a template so everyone can put it on their userpage, and once we have enough people using it, paste it onto Linsey's face? Koda User Koda Kumi UT.jpeg Kumi 10:41, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Jeff Strain goes after zombies[edit]

Some news about Jeff Strain here, founder of Undead Labs. Yseron - 90.28.210.144 23:19, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

This game is for me. How much ? Yseron - 90.28.210.144 23:24, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Jeff Strain's rude Q&A helped me to understand him a little more and i find him to be both nice and insightful. On top of that, like Carmack, he is very communicative. Jeff, i like you and i wish you the best for the great adventure to come.... and to those that will join you too. Yseron - 86.64.70.44 16:35, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Rasputin[edit]

Strange feelings and deja-vu[edit]

When you have that distinct, uncomfortable, feeling that you are heard based on your affinities with arenanet community representatives it is quite hard to clearly put some words on what you feel is wrong with the company they represent.

You can only assume, which is the strengh of this kind of non-communication that some employees adopt in some circumstances. For exemple, those among us who are systematicaly ignored by Regina and Linsey will agree with me that it is quite difficult to pull off some conclusions about the current state of the game when the only people you can reach and wont answer, are the ones that are paid for it. Take a look at the the job description for arenanet community coordinators and you will see that 50% of their duties have been left aside for quite some years. But honestly, i dont think that the requirements enumerated in the job description are humanly realistic without the backfire that they actually suffer. Inexperienced people might want to jump in as a way to reach the video-game industry but we know what awaits them in terms of communication: heavy censure and frustration, not enough time to accomplish their tasks without sacrifying some other equally important ones, etc.

So when you are left alone with your questions and anxiety what do you do ? Nothing.
When you think of it, this is extremly strange for a company which invested some money and people into community relationships.

Those lines were inspired by a word extracted from Jeff Strain blogs: "honesty".

Overall improvements in alliance battles, just to be fair[edit]

I posted in the bugs section of the wiki a note related to lags but to be fair it almost never happen these days. Overall, the quality of the battles have improved because we are less subject to strange freezes, and leechers are more rare than what they used to be. Good job ArenaNet. Ninja skills of the underground...[edit]

Well, ok. Now that we play this game less and less endlessly it might be a good time to apologize for all the (kind) jokes i made to some of the GMs whithout them knowing from where it was coming from. Let's start with this one: some time ago Regina, or Linsey, or both, mentioned that they experienced a sudden raise in popularity, that is to say, everyone was poking them "hello" as soon as they were online in game. It probably had something to do with someone taking care of instructing the crowd as to who regina and linsey are, their status (online) and how to be very cool by adding them in your friendlist so that you can see when they go online. God bless a country and a culture built around popularity ;) I guess that for at least some days they did regret we had nothing else to do whie waiting for alliance battles... Another project in the blocks[edit]

The last DS/DSi triple A project we have been working on did receive a good note (>8/10)( better than Dante ) and is well received by other game magazines. Sadly enough, when we signed, we were bound to not reveal for what and who we were working, and to not appear in the credits ( we were working as contractors for another contractor that had no DS thechnology but had to release a game on more than one platform ). But the game engine was made by me, and no agreement can force me to forget one of the rare DS engines that can compete directly with japanese ones. Yseron - 86.64.70.44 13:03, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Psycho Killers Delirium Circus[edit]

Today i watched a daft anime that goes by the name of hokutu no kill or hobuto no ken, or something like that. This is the story of a psycho kung fu schizophrenic killer that kill other psycho kung fu schizophrenic killers in a post-apocalyptic world. But he like children and protect them. Or maybe he's a pedophile. One sure thing, i want his elite: aaaaAAAAHHHHHH TA TA tA Ta Ta tA TATATATATATATATATA ! Secret weapon[edit]

The other day Rasputin came to me with a new plan to take over the opposite faction. To my surprise he had no nuclear hammer or whatever, but just a microphone... Then he turned to me and said : "we cannot lose, i saw it at work on femal characters". We locked him for its own safety. Yseron - 90.9.120.155 21:07, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

1-people all use the same builds
2-they always use light of judgment or necros bombers
3-use rend enchantments with fast cast on a necro bomber just before he shadow step, it's hilarious
4-any interrupt make light of judgment monks priceless
5-memers rule

I used their stupidity to get 300.000 factions in 1.5 day.

What is it for ?[edit]

I dont understand what the addition of the new npcs is all about. Is it for the skills from other campaigns to be captured by those who got only prophecies ? Is there really a war we can contribute to, like with alliance battles ? Is it to make vanquishing more difficult ? Are there new features or games mechanics comming soon ? Yseron - 86.209.70.193 20:56, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

From what I understand, the NPC's are just in there to build up the tension and create a little atmosphere before the big new content arrives. However, chances are that they are just going to pull off another codex. Koda User Koda Kumi UT.jpeg Kumi 21:02, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Of internet and other interesting things that are still true nowadays[edit]

I had a discussion with someone today and he went with things like this: let say some gw players used the same e-mail adress and/or password for the game and a fan site. Let say someone hack the fan site and get the e-mail adresses and/or passwords. Let say someone gather players characters names without even login on gw wiki the way you did get your name as shown on your screenshot. A simple program would easely be able to seek names/adresses/passwords that got a close syntax and create with the resulting database some associations of e-mail adresses, passwords and character names to try on the login screen. I prefer to think he is not sure about what he said. Yseron - 90.15.187.75 17:55, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Tonight is a quite night[edit]

So i will use this peacefull moment to try and gather some thoughts about things that i could never try or never did. Let's start:

- Instead of fighting heavy hexs builds in pve with hex removals, try a team with Shatter Hex x 8 just to see what it does.
- To stop trying to kill Dwarven Prospectors with twisted methods.
- To ask the devs if players will be allowed to give names to small secondary locations in gw2 if they are the first to discover it (ex: "Bonetti's Rock") after a review by the censure, obviously.
- To tell her that she is busted by all the teams as soon as she begin to talk in alliance battles: "ah ah ! Hello <long player name that i wouldnt be able to type without errors and with the right caps at the right places>, how are you today ?" ( <= Ned Flanders ), "Everyone is so polite today! ^^"( <= double Flanders ). If she continue she will wishes the cnex a joy-joy-day.
- I forgot the other things... again...

It is still possible to find some grps that wont recquire an exact set of skill bars evolving around 100b warriors + mop for hm fows. Yesterday we did a clean fow clear in 54 minutes without even trying to break any record, and without a single death. Still we had a perma sin and a spirit spammer, and i cant help but think why is that. If you cant come up with some content such that people will not systematicaly ask for permas+SoS, there is definitely something wrong with either game design or players themselves. I wont rant anymore about players who use SoS rits: why bother trying to play smart when you spend far less time and get more rewards with a handfull of spirits ? Having now a ritualist hero with SoS on each of my chars, i can tell you that SoS rits leetness is really just about pooping some spirits in any order that you want without any tactical decisions. You poop them, you win. Anet claim that gw have more than 5 millions players, yet you wont find more than a hundred people that dont need permas/SoS to get the fun out of the game. Being spread across outposts at different times of the day, it ultimately scales down to 3 or 4 players able to adapt, available from time to time. So if i wont rant, why this post ? Consider this: if anet design content such that players are systematicaly able to compensate the difficulty with 10 minions and ~6-8 spirits, why not increase the party size so that you got more players than minions/spirits enjoying the game? But even like this players would still come up with 18 npcs and they would complain about the reduced loot for having additional human players. I dont say it's easy to create a fair and enjoyable game environement, certainly not. Let's just hope that it will be a little more easy with gw2. In order to keep my hopes, i will try to forget that just as for gw1, they already started to put the focus on elemantalists and that, just as for gw1, they came again with the exemple of a warrior wieldin a bow. Kit Rae is one of the few weapons designers who can do better than Arenat designer with his eyes closed (unless he gets hired by Arena Net in which case he cant do better than himself). The 2010 limited edition count up to 300 pieces, i let you imagine the cost of those booties. Just have a look at the standard edition. His creations however tend to lack in diversity and do not fall in the ready-to-steel category for those of you who practice out there. Yseron - 86.209.69.94 00:19, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Making a fun of interrupt bots[edit]

On one occasion i catched an interrupt bot off guard. This one was hard to catch because i had to make a guess-interrupt so that i would break the cast before 250 ms: psychic instability on a target, the bot next to me fired all its interrupts in sequence. Apparently, some verions of those things got a flaw. Yseron - 90.9.248.98 16:03, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

GW players improving over time[edit]

Jack The Undeadking want to do a non sc fow.
I join, he ask me to ping.
I ping.
Then Jack The Undeadking tell me to play e-surge, that my build is fucking terrible, that he does dayly fow and that he knows what he is talking about. He does not forget to mention that i should be ashame to join fow parties with my build.
He then conclude by telling me "just look at my title"
I have come to the conclusion that since the very first day, anet was planing to farm idiots.
It seems it worked.

When I do DoA with my guild/alliance, I go as a Panic mesmer with extra hex removal (it makes the run a whole lot easier and is much more useful than a SoS rit). One time we had to take a random monk and he kept saying that the whole run was doomed because we didn't have a SoS. He shut up after the first part of the Stygian Veil. PUGs can and will be pricks because they refuse to think outside the box and they're comfortable in their delusional little world. Anet can be proud[edit]

In 3 years we did not suceed to make them understand that we dont necessarily want to play an elemantalist or an assassin. We also did not suceed to explain them that joining a guild that ask you to play an elementalist or an assassin wont justify the word "guild" of guildwars. When a game design is good, you should never have to explain why.

Because i know how they proceed with us i first took care to finish dhuum in hm several times in case i would have something to say one day. Someone need a good spank, let just hope that Anet realize that it's not the players who need it. I would gladly watch a remake of the movie "Saw" with some game designers in it.

Noodle friendly[edit]

The trend in gw for pve seems to favor passive play with things like panic and rit spammers, and i stoped playing AB since i'm a 12|12. I have begun to enjoy my work more than gw. By the way, our busty programmer did return from the company where she was sent as a contractor, each time she flexes panic rise in the openspace. Yseron - 90.15.184.34 23:30, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

I tried offzip on a range of compressed files (beside the cmp flag we know they are compressed when we cant get any good compression ratio with a compression utility on the given file) but it seems that offzip find zip blocks where there is none (wich is normal since once compressed a file can produce a valid header at random within the generated datas). Beside that my new idole is Carmen Russo. Yseron - 81.251.16.171 00:32, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

I found on XentaX a thread where someone did post the code for decompressing anet files. So i download the sources and to my surprise i find out that what they did is that they did trace what the executable was doing when uncompressing a file and "converted" the assembly into a cs file. Needless to say they dont have a clue as to what it does but it does the job and that's what matters. (they seem to have trouble with ptrs conversions). Yseron - 81.251.16.171 02:59, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
The decompressor in its "final" state have moved to subversion, the old link at XentaX points to a malware. I'm having a great time now. Yseron - 86.64.70.44 17:42, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
The one who converted the .cs to a .cpp (subversion revision 9)kept what becomes major leaks when you are no more in managed mode. Each time you unpack a file, it create a decomp buffer that is never deleted unless the unpack fail, because nothing tells the user that he is in charge of the deletion of the buffer. Priceless ! I couldnt resist, i had to show it to others at the studio. Yseron - 86.64.70.44 17:57, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
With some minor optimizations, i can extract ~37000 files in ~2 minutes. Just by using a single shared buffer whose size is equal to the one of the biggest file to decompress already make it 20 more faster. Yseron - 86.64.70.44 18:42, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
When playing to compare the converted assembly code extracted from the anet decomp with the XDelta src it seems that ANet use a different distances table ( the one that is 32 bytes in size ). just get past the adler32 asm section ( easely identifiable pattern with x=(y>>16)|(x<<16) ) and you should get to the begining of huffy doky. Maybe someone will one day make / have made a clean code out of this. Yseron - 90.29.55.201 21:25, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Dear Yseron[edit]

Why do you never log in? Just wondering. ShadowRunner 21:32, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm a very lazzy guy. Back to the topic, I fear they wont talk about crafting till the release of gw2 and that it will end up beeing not as elaborated as it should have been. ( I cant contribute with a near human level of english so dont hesitate to ask me to reword my sentence if it does not make sens ). Yseron - Serge Yseron 21:44, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
We're still missing a lot of information, so it's more than likely that they will be waiting till they have it right. But I also think that it won't be as big a part as it could be, but who knows eh? ShadowRunner 21:46, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

One piece at a time[edit]

One day i see this mesmer with that bar that should be the end of most any man, so the very next match I got me a big lunch boxand start sneaking right behind him. I never considered myself a thief. The guy there would miss only a piece, especially when you strech it out over several minutes. You know the song: I did it one piece at a time, and it wouldnt cost me a dime... Massively single player[edit]

Sometimes i wonder why i login into this game when there is nobody around to play with. I'm going to try and convince myself hard that 2 wammos with their mox/ogden in an outpost is an awsome pool of players to play with. I'm like yoda asking himself how luke did get so tall by eating shit all day: the first thing probably have nothing to do with the second one. Maybe it's the same thing for gw and it's empty outposts. Yseron - 90.14.230.197 13:43, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

...wasted time.

Another evening wasted with a very self confident player that took unwanted guests and escort souls. The funny thing is that our pug did clear 4h and pits without a single death before it happened... With time i learned to laugh at it (got no choice when it happen 90% of the time). I just pray so that the game designer will never meet the other players, should they have a gun ;) Yseron - 90.9.249.113 22:51, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Minimum requirements for the fow[edit]

- tank
- invincibility
- nukers
- rit spammer
- self heal (for me, but i did not die even once)

team: - 1 ranger - 2 necros

almost was 3 players... but there was a pet, sumoning stones, and more than 4 rez scrolls used by the guy, so i wont even bother recording it. Yseron - 109.213.35.43 14:57, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

I love you, you are awesome.[edit]

Show those pugs how to play! I am an ele, so I can't do anything you can do in any of those pics you taken of your exploits, yet I don't rely on many widely used builds like discord and crap like that. SOS is the only build I use atm other than my own original stuff. Say can you help me out in a few things (i.e. amatz basin or VQ) or give me some build advice? If not, that is fine also. Its very true from what you shown in your talk, this game has no one worth playing with anymore. I knew this game was dead about the same time you did. Hopefully GW 2 is a fresh start. Yumiko ^,~ 17:26, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm not trying to show that some professions are more capable than some others: more professions mean more options. If you use the game mechanics there is no way you cant have fun with your bar. And for those who talk about time records, whatever area you are doing, whatever your time record is, dont forget what you owe to the person who made it possible in the first place. Never brag about something that you would never have been able to do by yourself. Yseron - 109.213.35.43 20:12, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
The only advice I can give you is to create a new character, preferably ranger, mesmer, or monk. That way, you actually learn how the game works when you play it. Koda User Koda Kumi UT.jpeg Kumi 16:09, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Sevaan: no hex to shatter, no shatter hex[edit]

Not being able to find a grp for eva because i dont want her to equip ss for uw i made her start the war in kryta bounties. Her first one was sevaan. She did pass the no-hex test successfully on the first attempt. But she also have been lucky in some ways: i explained to the leader that shatter hex kill the tank in hm (120x2) and.... he listened, first surprise. A necro jumped in and pinged MoP, the leader kept me and kicked the other necro: second surprise. No death and a ~30 secs fight (cracked armor and the wide spread of deep wound helped to shorten the fight).
