All members are Krytan owls.
The Northern and southern Krytan owl populations are currently listed as threatened in Tyria under the Endangered Species Act, which is administered by the United Tyrian Fish and Wildlife Service (UTFWS).
The Northern Krytan Owl is in rapid decline with about a 7% annual population loss along the northern edge of its range (Ascalon Settlement, Kryta and south-western Maguuma). Less than 30 breeding pairs remain in Kessex Peak, and the species is expected to be extirpated from Watchtower Coast within the next few years.
The Talmark Krytan owl is not considered to be threatened nor endangered by the UTFWS, however, it considered to be a species of special concern by Beetletun and the United Tyrian Forest Service (UTFS).
All subspecies of the Krytan owl are often the subject of disagreement between conservationists and White Mantle, vanquishers, undead, and other organizations whose activities can affect forest cover. In February 2008, a federal judge reinforced a United Tyrian Fish and Wildlife Service decision to designate 8,600,000 acres (34,800 km2) in The Black Curtain, Nebo Terrace, Scoundrel's Rise and Lion's Gate as critical habitat for the owl. The decision had been challenged by the Krytan Cattle Growers' Association, but Justicar Hablion upheld the designation. According to the Center for Biological diversity, "Having critical habitat will ensure that United Tyrian Forest Service logging does not limit the bird's recovery or drive it into extinction.
