The Ebon Vanguard [Rin] is a guild shrouded in mystery. It's membership, kept secret. The location of it's guild hall, a lost horizon. It's purpose and dealings have been the subject of considerable academic debate through the centuries, the goals of The Ebon Vanguard remain elusive.
It is widely believed that Cora Weir is the current leader of [Rin] and that this guild sits within the highly secretive Coven Of The Red Iris Alliance.
Here is what is known of The Ebon Vanguard:
- An envoy from The Ebon Vanguard met with representatives of the Order of Secrets to discuss a potential alliance. Discussion broke down when the [Rin] envoy, disappointed with the Order of Secrets poorly drafted Non-Disclosure Agreement, accused their representatives of being gossips.
- The death prone Prince Rurik was rescued from the clutches of a level 1 River Skale by a member of [Rin] as a child. So impressed with the stature of his savior, Rurik later named an elite unit of Ascalons military after [Rin].
- The [Rin] guild hall was once a place of quiet contemplation and meditation occupied by a group of monks from Cantha. Unable to pay their gambling debts to [Rin] bookies, these monks handed ownership of the isle over to [Rin] and returned to Cantha mainland where they took up the study of the Necromantic Arts in Shing Jea.
- In the early days of the Kingdom of Ascalon, the King was looking for a corporate sponsor to buy naming rights to the capital city. [Rin] made a gift of a Merchant, a Rare Crafting Materials trader and a Canthan Ambassador to the fledgling kingdom in exchange for these naming rights. The name "Citi Field" was already taken.
- A team funded by [Rin] beat the Wright Brothers in sustained and controlled flight with a fixed wing aircraft by three years. Unable to write off salt water taffy as a business expense on their taxes for the year, [Rin] chose to hide their achievement away from the rest of mankind. The Guild Leader was later quoted as saying, "Death and taxes? Bah! They'll just have to wait for someone else to invent flight. Audit that, you $#@&?%@'s!"
- An Officer from [Rin] was the first man on the moon. Making his journey on a grain silo converted into a rocket in 1647, this Officer successfully landed on the moon and even managed to write the first few letters of his intended "Hi Mom!" message in the moon's sand before the vacuum of space claimed his life. Sadly, there was no Resurrection Shrine in the area so he respawned at the eastern portal to Beetleton.

Ten years ago in 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Lions Arch underground. Today, still wanted by the White Mantle, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The Ebon Vanguard [Rin].
