This seems to be a link spammer that only links on his own userpage. There have been multiple Heorhui user accounts with the same/similar content, but I'm not sure if I should block the user(s) as I would a normal link spammer, and delete the userpage under G1 (which is what I've been doing so far because it looks like simple link spam). I don't exactly want to click those links, and the addresses that show up are relatively unhelpful, so it would be helpful if anyone can read that language. -- Brains12 \ Talk 01:37, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

I recently placed information about LT necromancers under the Life Stealing section on this page, it was reverted by Lytel who hadn't heard of them yet (see User talk:Lytel). I would like to know if the information should be removed or should it stay. --Shadowphoenix 20:03, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- First of all, admins don't have any extra sway over content decisions, this sort of thing should just generally be opened up on the articles talk page for all. Secondly, speaking as a normal user, I've never requested or seen a request for a Life Transfer necro, so I don't really think it should be included. -- Brains12 \ Talk 20:07, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Please could you block this IP, as I dont wanna have to keep reverting his pointless and ill-informed attacks on my guild. Like I was with you before Biro thinking it was a one off attack, but now he/she has done it 3 times, so I think perhaps a more proactive response might be in order now please. EDIT: Also im not sure if this is possible, but is their anyway to semi-protect the page to prevent edits by unregistered accounts? I've been put in charge of updating the wikipage for LaZy and so as it stands I can tell you that no unregistered accounts should be touching that page. -- Salome 03:27, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- I have 1 b and 2 r's in my nick :P anyway, when you first posted it, like Biro, I ignored it as well because it was a one-off thing. We ignore one-off vandalisms because usually these minor vandals just mess around once and then leave, so it's usually pointless to leave them a message or block them. We only react when the vandal edits more than once or vandalizes more than one page, which is I reverted and put on a short block. I prefer not to protect pages unless it's becomes really necessary. -- ab.er.rant 09:13, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry about the mispelling, it was almost 4am my time and i was suffering from a nice wee bout of insomnia. I myself agreed with Lord Biro at the time too, i was just bringing it to your attention that it was a repeat offense. As per my request, i only requested semi-protection for two reason, firstly as one of the few people authorised by the LaZy leadership to adapt those pages for lazy, I know that no unregistered people should be touching that page; secondly, the page has been vandalised 8-ish times since last June which means that its averaging out at about once a month so just thought thats pretty high for a guild page but its not a big deal as I can keep an eye on it in the future so no one plays with it. Cheers guys. -- Salome 12:13, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

scam
Hey Wiki Staff, today I was in the German District 2 in Lion´s Arch when someone offered to buy gold and green items (espacially for players with few er money (later i realized that that should attract "noobs")). Since I had some I talked to him and he told me that he was not interested in buying my items, but that he was a Guild Wiki Staff member and that Guild Wiki wanted to make pictures of every green and gold item. He told me that I just had to give him my stuff, he would make pictures and give them back to me and pay me 2p for every item afterwards. Of course I realized that that was a total fake and just a new way to steal items. I just wanted to let you know that, so you could warn others that might not realize this faked offer and so the name of this great site is not connected to any crime. I also took screens of the conversation so if you want them to report this incident to arena net or something like that you can just contact me. -Rob Bubble
- Hi there, thanks for your concern, but there's nothing really we can do about it. People just need to be on the lookout, and hopefully some scams will be unsuccessful. Also, just to note, the wiki would never ask people in-game to give them items to use for screenshots, so if someone does, they aren't from this wiki - we get the screenshots by getting the item genuinely :) -- Brains12 \ Talk 23:08, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

- You don't need to trade or ask for the items at all. You can expand the gw.dat to is largest size (almost 4GB) with this in the run menu "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image (or any other place gw.exe is). ;) 68.151.27.108 00:22, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Not really true. I always use -image, but not until I went ingame and actually looked at some icons at the crafting window could I find them in my dat. Of course, I didn't scan exactly all of the images, only ATEXDXT3 or something, but if they didn't suddenly change type so I could find them they weren't in there before I saw them in game - anja 00:31, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- -Image only loads files into the .Dat that have already been seen. And Lemming, that was horrible (but good at the same time, I must admit :)). Calor

(Reset indent) I used -image when I got a new hard drive. VERY useful. As for the scammingness, don't forget, OP, that there aren't actually "staff" here. We're all volunteers, actual players like yourself, who edit this wiki. It's just those guys /\ do more than the rest of us. MiraLantis 00:59, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Also, don't forget that there really could be such a GuildWiki user or a GWW user doing that. But if you suspect a scam, and since you nicely took screenshots, I'd recommend that send a support ticket to ArenaNet and let them deal with it. -- ab.er.rant 05:28, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Just a slight correction: -image does get all the files in the Gw.dat, but they're not actually uncompressed until you see them in-game, and the Gw.dat browser fluctuating the internet can't read compressed data. — Galil 15:43, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Suggestion: Use Bad Behavior to stop bots and spam
There seem to be a lot of complaints/bans about bots and spammers on here, so I figured offer this easy to implement suggestion.
Bad Behavior is a set of PHP scripts which prevents spambots from accessing your site by analyzing their actual HTTP requests and comparing them to profiles from known spambots. It goes far beyond User-Agent and Referer, however. Bad Behavior is available for several PHP-based software packages, and also can be integrated in seconds into any PHP script.
You can download Bad Behavior (which works with MediaWiki) here. -- Tarun 20:25, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
