Bonus for completion[edit]
Is it just me, or do you get 100 points for keeping Glint's Baby alive... aka 100 bonus points upon completion? Master Bei Shun 22:35, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Hard Mode[edit]
do you get anything special or a bonus or anything for beating it on Hard Mode?
- The only thing you can get better in HM is items that are worth more money, and better drop rate for more rare items, like dyes, keys and gold items Sir Edward 11:51, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Quest giver[edit]
there's nothing about where to get the quest/start the challenge on this page, havent done it myself so don't know where it is, can someone else add it? Fowlero 14:13, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- There, I have added it, although I'm not sure that's the best way to add this information. Erasculio 17:18, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Build for soloing, dervish?[edit]
Can anyone give me a good dervish solo build for the 1st wave at least? I want d cores without wasting my time making an ele. Ninjas In The Sky 16:53, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
It's very hard to make a dervish build, due to the Mesmer Destroyer of Thoughts. They have skills that remove enchantments from you and as we all know Dervish's rely heavily on enchanment spells. The only reason the elementalist build works so well is because Obsidian flesh makes it so the enemy can't target you with spells, therefore making the DoT not able to remove the enchanments. Sir Edward 14:01, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
for a derv no, for a sin yes. the perma sin can handle it pretty well. LegionRat 12:14, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Two elites?[edit]
How is it possible that the heart of destruction has two elites?! Is it possible to capture both at the same time? And if, why isn't it mentioned in the main page?! Thanks
- It is possible for creatures to have 2 elites, even though players can't. Ancient skales in the Fissure of Woe also have 2 elites. And yes, it is possible to capture both if you bring 2 signets of capture. ~~Jgarver~~
Impossible?[edit]
The guy at Anet who designed this needs to stop using his Master Cheat Codes and try this as a normal player! He will soon discover that it is impossible without the aid of god or an immortal or ultimately overpowered weapons such as an Atom bomb or a Lascannon.Quetzal 16:42, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Difficult perhaps, but not impossible. It just takes a halfway decent team to do it.--Pyron Sy 17:16, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Think critically about it. Eruption works great. Tease, would work great. Extend Conditions would be useful. Disease. Rit Spirits. Wards. All good ideas, all useful, all make this very possible. Also, look into Edge of Extinction ;) FleshAndFaith 17:48, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
How to Glint's challenge with heroes and henchmen?[edit]
Is it still possible after Inner Fire fix(Update - Thursday, November 6, 2008)?--Exciter 06:12, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Henchmen i don't know though iv done it with three necromancer heroes and another player with the same heroes. To do it with hench is a bit harder and longer though i haven't really tried that hard with them (Update - Thursday, November 6, 2008)--UnnderVart
- Just did this today hero/hench to see if its possible still. Only scored ~1850 or so but its definitely doable depending on your setup. 98.219.48.111 18:20, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- I did this on my Ranger with BAH (Template OgASc3MTuS3aqGoG3kxkjiFH) using 1 MM (Template OANDQZxWSyBVBKgoBdCVVJgtEA), 1 Rit (Template OACjAyhIpOizJ33Maf2ecOzLGA), 1 Air Ele (Template BSurge:OghjgwMc4MXVzB44bUOCH0iLGA) and the henchmen Herta, Talon, Mhenlo, Lina. 76.103.223.69 12:11, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- I can do this and get about 2000 points, not 100% win due to misplaced heroes/etc, so be careful. Master Bei Shun 22:34, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Elementalist Solo[edit]
Why won't this work? I'm using the right build but i can't kill BOTH sides. Once one group is dead the second group is at the dragon. Can anyone show me how to solo it?--Avatar of grenth 08:41, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

2 minion masters[edit]
Does this advice really work? The destroyers of compassion have Heart of Holy Flame and Banishing Strike, and tend to obliterate minions IME. -- Hong 15:12, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
NM H/H with Discord heroes/AP Caller[edit]
Beat this on NM twice in a row last night using 3 discord heroes (not even optimal: Xandra, Gwen and Livia) and my AP caller using Alkar's Alchemical Acid, EVAS and Pain Inverter (PI was to ensure compassions and bosses went down when wrecking minions, and since FH is partly redundant with AAA).
Henchies were Talon, Herta, Lina, Mhenlo.
Key was to be aggressive. When I'd post my heroes on the hill, too many destroyers would ball up on the suicide dwarfs and hit me in a too large of a group to spike quickly enough. On the other hand, when I just stayed on the attack, moving between groups, fighting in the area between the ramps, I could spike them quickly enough to keep ahead of reinforcements. Wave 1 was easy as long as I stayed aggressive, and waves 2 and 4 were easy as long as I prioritized Compassions (switch ramps as soon as compassions get reasonably close and let your minions hold off the Deeds). Also, in waves 3 and 5, it really helped to ignore the Destroyers of Hope while taking down the others, as those guys have enough life gain to resist your spike. They also don't hurt much.
Minions are excellent for any wave without compassions, and even then, fuel your PI. Don't be afraid to leave a ramp to go take down Compassions/Lives. Your shamblers will hold the other guys at bay until you get back. Let your heroes follow you around. The goal is spiking down the heavy hitters ASAP.--Brainlizard 17:32, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- Good tips -- I followed your advice and it worked really well for me. I had a sin with a standard dagger spam build coupled with spiritway heroes. I took AAA and PI, but tbh, I didn't use PI at all and AAA rarely (I actually forgot to take an elite). I just ran around killing and never really ran into any trouble except once when a Lives popped up close to the baby dragon and I didn't notice until it was almost too late. Henchies were Devona, Mhenlo, Cynn, and Herta. --Dfscott 02:55, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
Crystal Desert of Depths of Tyria?[edit]
I think this should be considered as Depths of Tyria. It is underneath the Crystal Desert, but all dungeons and several other EoTN areas are underneath other areas and considered to be Depths of Tyria. This is currently the only underground area of EoTN that's labeled as something other than Depths of Tyria. Manifold 20:01, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- I agree this doesn't make any sense to be listed as in the Crystal Desert when it's located under it. We don't list Central Transfer Chamber as Northern Shiverpeaks or Heart of the Shiverpeaks as Southern Shiverpeaks, why should this be listed as Crystal Desert? -- Kirbman 03:05, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Duo Strategy?[edit]
I have been getting into this lately and have finally put together a good hero team to take with one other person. I'm not by any means a "pro", but I know what I'm doing. The problem is that very few seem to understand how hard the left side is on wave 2. Every partner immediately calls right side at the start, and stays out until wave 3. Well that's just great, if it's "too slow" to meet on the 2nd, maybe they could volunteer to take on the Destroyer of Compassions? I'd love to see how it's done. I for sure can tell you the Sin I was just with had exactly zero skills to defend himself and wouldn't last 5 seconds. He didn't even ask for my builds either, there was no concern at all. On my most successful runs with other (multiple) people, the right side always doubles back on wave 2 to help with the Compassions and we mostly stay together to the end, even scoring pretty high. For explanation I take a SoS Rit or Barrage Ranger. I'd just like to know how normal it is to stay split up until 3rd wave and if so how do you take left side without a good tank? I've even seen them get destroyed. Sorry for the long post. Xiaquin 06:39, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
- If you're going for best score, then splitting up is normal, although the left side obviously needs someone who can tank Compassion destroyers at least until the right side finishes, if you can't outright kill them. Warriors, Elementalists, and Monks do a pretty good job at that, although it shouldn't be overly hard to pull it off with other classes, as long as you don't allow them to attack your backline. Using conditions and stripping their enchantments makes them much easier targets and, on a Ranger, Dwarven Stability combined with an evasive skill should work well enough. Just make sure you're nowhere near them if you're using minions (or spirits on your Rt) or their banishing strike will spike you dead. :)
- On the other hand, if you only want to finish the mission and don't care about a few extra seconds or points, then it makes more sense to take on second and fourth wave at the center, perhaps even letting the first line of dwarves die to condense the next waves into tighter groups (since they won't get stuck on dwarves and spread out). It's usually smarter to discuss sides and strategy before you enter the mission, at that point it's too late to come to any reasonable agreements. » Keneth O'Connor, 12:39, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- I agree that for a top scoring run it makes sense, though most of the high scores I see use more than just 2 humans. Since my post I've had more success and already moved on (working on dungeons now). You pointed out exactly my problem as I rely heavily on minions and spirits to absorb damage, so Compassions always overwhelm. My Ranger can tank but my heroes are chop suey. In short I had a lot of frustration with players who just didn't listen, so it is with this game. My guild is all but dead, so braving the pick-ups is hit-miss. Thanks, Keneth :) Xiaquin 19:54, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Notes vs See also[edit]
So... how would external videos for doing this be a note instead of a see also? --JonTheMon 17:08, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- If they're even going to be there, they should be under "External links". -- pling 17:14, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, an even better idea. I'd go with that. --JonTheMon 17:17, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
Lag Issues with Solo Build[edit]
When doing this area with a solo build I get peculiar lag problems. The build I use just aggros all the destroyers and then kills. The thing is that there is no lag when the monsters are coming, but the moment the last two monsters aggro and start attacking my ping spikes to 10k and I disconnect. This is consistent, and it seems absurd that 40 monsters doesn't trigger a lag spike, while 42 disconnects you. I tried it on different computers with the same effect. Is this some purpose-built mechanic or what? The Time Less One 18:32, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
- They are just conspiring against you! Break out the tinfoil hats! :O 98.121.203.31 20:50, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe the last two were chronomancers and they used their elite Supah Lag Spaike and were just lucky to trigger the disconnect condition. Well, at least thats my guess.--Markisbeest 21:08, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Update needed somewhere[edit]
The Destroyers of Thoughts now use Chaos Storm. I don't know if they use it in most places, but they sure use it in this challenge mission now, and it makes that first wave much harder for me than every other one. Kyubiko 05:39, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- deffinatly makes things harder and wouldn't recommend spirits or mm--86.42.94.28 16:33, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
- This whole thing has gone to crap. It was hard before, now its just ridiculous. The rewards are NOWHERE near worth the amount of time and effort required to accomplish this. I have always been for hard areas, elite missions, whatever, but this is excessive. When DoA and UW seem easier than this, its time to reformulate. Nay the One and Only 02:27, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
- The level 28 Destroyer of Thoughts use Spiritual Pain and what seems like a completely different skill build than what's listed in the wiki. They pretty much spike down anything that has any minions or spirits :/ Made H/Hing it a lot harder. 76.19.201.198 04:19, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
- See that's the problem, when they made this it was for a completely different functionality of skills, so many updates have been made then to buff mesmers, rits, ect. So now we are left to deal with the outcome and work even harder on this. When I first started it, yes it was challenging but I thouroughly enjoyed it, we loved getting a few guild teams together and have contests on how fast we could do it. Now hardly anyone wants to waste the time on it anymore. <sigh> oh well, can't have our cake and eat it too I suppose. I am happy with the skill changes for the most part, just not here. guess it's time to suck it up and either quit going or figure something new out eh? Nay the One and Only 17:50, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
- It's kind of challenging for normal mode, but I haven't had any serious issues with H/H with a couple of tweaks to my standard setup. First, take Eve for Blood Ritual. I've had successful vs. unsuccessful runs differentiated only by taking Eve vs. another hench. Definitely take Eve if you're doing H/H. Second, I use a standard sabway setup, swapping the MM for this elementalist: OgJTsY2iNadQdwsqaASUJCaQAAA. Destroyers are weak against cold damage, so this is just an all-cold damage bar of water hexes with Mirror of Ice thrown in as the elite for extra damage. Finally, take Alkar's Alchemical Acid yourself, and Snowstorm if you can afford the energy. Snowstorm especially helps with the first wave because they're low-level and they tend to bunch up. For some reason the first wave is the hardest for me so Snowstorm is worth the slot just for that wave. I recommend a cold damage weapon for martial professions. Bring stance removal or the second wave of Deeds will cause you trouble. Daze helps if you can bring it but it's not required. I don't follow the advice in the article for the third wave -- I let them circle around and attack the dragon from behind. Then they're bunched up and easier to kill. The fifth wave can be challenging -- I generally try to dispatch the Thoughts as quickly as possible, leaving the Lives alone unless they're attacking the dragon. It does seem to help somewhat if they do attack the dragon first, because they seem to stay focused on it and don't deal massive fire damage to my team. -- bcstingg (talk • contribs) 04:12, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- With the hero update, this was a piece of cake the first time I've tried it with a balanced hero team (Healer, E/Mo Prot, N/Rit Resto/Chann, Discord, MM, Avatar of Dwayna Dervish, Ineptitude Mes, DWG) -MNF
- Agree, this mission is now a total joke. I just flag heroes 4 on each side of the dragon, close enough to support each other. I might even be able to afk it if I set them on agressive mode, might try some day but for now I'm short on time. I used N/x Blood support, Me/x E-Surge nuker, Me/Mo Psychic instability/Illusion shutdown, 2x Mo/Me UA+LifeSheath prot, N/Mo MM bomber, N/Rt SS, +Me nuking with VoR. Fun, but it's almost too easy on NM. EDIT: Tried to AFK, you CAN AFK THIS. Just set all heroes on agressive (not sure if defensive works). I did, however, need to help my team with the first wave otherwise you get 30+ destroyers coming in at once (due to the dwarfs stalling them), and you get serious problems when you have ~15 chaos storms and spirit rifts over your party. Otherwise, my party didn't come close to wipe (I observed the whole time so I would know if AFK'ing was reliable - it seems it is). K2K 11:45, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Small Grammar Fix[edit]
I've edited the "rewards" section very slightly. Before, it said "After defeating the final wave, a Chest of the Brotherhood will spawn, which..."; This is known as a dangling modifier, as the participle phrase ("After defeating the final wave") grammatically appears to modify "Chest of the Brotherhood". Look em up on Google if you're interested: some of them are actually kinda funny. I've reworded it to be more grammatically correct, just in case anyone wonders what the rewording was about. 69.249.223.63 04:25, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- There are actually a lot of grammatical errors on many articles on this wiki. Feel free to correct other grammatical errors when time permits :-). --Lania 04:13, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

ridiculously easy[edit]
this isn't a hard area any more... it is passably whit a 7 hero party to AFK the entire time... it really needs a update to keep it's status as an hard mission...Truly
Elementalist primary[edit]
Is this even possible to complete with an elementalist primary and heroes? I usually do nuking with fire damage (Searing Flames) but that doesn't work very well against these guys, obviously since they don't burn. My heroes seem too stupid to be able to survive even the first wave. I get the feeling I'm missing something, no idea what though. Not out to farm for cores, I'm just after the Cloths of the Brotherhood. 90.230.75.204 15:37, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- If you read the section before yours, people have done it with 7 heroes while afk, so it's certainly possible. This wiki is not a help-forum though, so I suggest you try some hero-builds from gwpvx or ask on a fan-forum. Tub 16:56, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

[1] I just wanted to add this build in case anyone didn't know how to look it up (like me) and was using the build above. This build failed a lot less often for me.
