Experience[edit]

I am wondering... "Everything you acquire during the Sneak Peek Weekend, including [...] XP [...] will be available to you when the game goes live on August 31" - how it is possible, that our experience will be available on August 31? Will it be taken from our chars? Quite nonsense for me... --Fett 10:06, 10 August 2007 (EDT)

In previous sneak peaks you had to make a new character for the weekend, and everyone you obtained on that character was wiped before the actual release. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 12:16, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
But now we use our 20 lvl chars, so it is impossible to wipe everything... especially experience. --Fett 15:15, 10 August 2007 (EDT)
They could roll it back, it wouldn't be that hard to figure out a way. The point is that part is quoted verbatim from the website. You get to keep xp along with the other things, what harm is there in stating it? --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 13:25, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
I figure its the same as using a trial key on an existing account. When the weekend ends, you get to keep all the stuff, but you lose access to the skills, heroes and areas.

Sneak Peek Weekend Question[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

I have a question about the Sneak Peek Weekend, I'm not entirely sure this is the right place. But besides items, XP, Heroes, and loot, do we keep the towns and area's we explored, explored after the actual game goes live? So do we need to re-explore them or can we travel to them directly as soon as we get the full game? Thanks in advance and sorry if this is the wrong place. Alovich 18:44, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, that's a good question. My instinct is that you will not keep the explored areas simply because you need to start at the beginning of the story, and having those maps opened will result in lost quests and storyline continuity. Let me ask and I'll post when I know more. --Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:55, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
And I'd like to ask about one more thing... Will all GWEN "surprises" be revealed during the Weekend? I don't think about areas and other stuff connected to the further parts of the game, impossible to reach during the Weekend. I'm talking about the things like new titles regarding to the old campaigns and so on. And... can we expect the additional surprises AFTER the Sneak Peek Event? For example: during the Weekend we don't see Quest Collector title, and at the release - there it is! MonkOfWar 19:33, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
That's a really good question. If that's the case, I think I am mostly going to play mini-games instead of starting something I will have to restart in a few days. Thanks for looking into it, Gaile. --Ravious 19:49, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
According to the design team, the map exploration and exposure that you achieve during the Sneak Peek Weekend will remain on your map. You won't be able to map travel to those points once the SPW ends, of course, and cannot go there until you add a GW:EN Access Key, but you won't be required to redo that area, if you don't care to do so.
As to other surprises, I cannot say about whether the new titles and other such things will be revealed. I guess if you want everything to be completely unknown to you and if you want GW:EN to be a complete surprise to you come August 31, you could avoid the weekend and stay off the forums and GWW for the five days after the SPW ends. :) --Gaile User gaile 2.png 20:38, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Gaile, I was wondering about it for a while :) Alovich 20:45, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

One thing that confuses me, which you might want to clarify, because I can see it leading to some seriously upset players: The preview event website says "All progress, items, skills, and Heroes you have unlocked and obtained during the Sneak Peek Weekend will be accessible again when the game goes live on August 31." Is this simply bad wording or does it mean items we find will actually be removed from our inventories when the event is over and given back later? It doesn't say so, but it could be interpreted that way. --84-175 (talk) 20:21, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

It rather meant for skills and heroes part I believe. Biz 20:26, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
That's correct. You may continue to use the items, but the skills and Heroes will be tied to the release and acquisition of GW:EN. By that I mean that if you get a GW:EN Hero during that weekend, you'll need to put in a GW:EN access key to make him or her available on August 31. --Gaile User gaile 2.png 20:35, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, that's how I thought it would be, but the wording of that sentence had me wondering. :) --84-175 (talk) 07:09, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

One more question, just so I'm clear on it: you say we'll keep the exploration we do. Does that include the progress in the storyline? So, for example, we keep the outposts? And we keep how far we are in the storyline? And what about quests we do? Thank you! Capcom 05:31, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

You'd still need to complete act 1 in order to reach the Tarnished Coast and possibly the Charr homeland, and you need to complete all three arcs of act 2 before you get to act 3, so early access to the Far Shiverpeaks after release shouldn't pose much of a problem. -- Gordon Ecker 05:39, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes, you will keep all that. --Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:57, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Based on the James Phinney interview video, it looks like the travel quests takes you directly to Boreal Station in the Far Shiverpeaks, and it's been established that the dwarves have a presence in the Far Shiverpeaks, so it looks like you might not actually skip anything, instead merely being prevented from following the Asura and Charr / Ebon Vanguard arcs due to travel restrictions. -- Gordon Ecker 22:24, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
OK, from what I am understanding from this last part is that the quests we complete this weekend will NOT be re-available once GW:EN goes live, so in essence, they cannot be done twice - once during this weekend, then again after the official release. Can this just be confirmed so I know I understood correctly? HanokOdbrook 12:45, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Skills Disabled Question[edit]

?: During the AT times, does this mean that that GW:EN skills will be disabled for those that are playing in PvE world? Or are they disabled for the AT only this weekend? Or are they disabled for any PvP activity? SabreWolf 10:14, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

As far as I know, they will act like normal on any skillbar, they simply won't function if brought into an AT. Txzeenath 10:38, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

So they are only disabled for AT, and not all PvP like AB and RA? SabreWolf 12:46, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Time[edit]

Can any 1 please tell me when the event starts in GMT. I can't find a good time converter. so plz help --The Warior Of Timi

The time given is GMT -7 (says in the article). 12am + 7 is 7am ;) - anja talk 18:59, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
so here in Belgium it starts at 8 am? --The Warior Of Timi
No it will be 9 am because of the summer time :) (CEST = UTC/GMT+2) poke | talk 19:11, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Actually, according to Timezone Converter it would be 9am, due to daylight saving time. - anja talk 19:17, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Time zones are so confusing :p --User Gummy Joe Sig Icon.PNGGummy Joe 19:20, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Its 8am for those in the UK, so we can play right from the start without having to get up really early :D
It's PM not AM lol. Change it.
No, it's AM. Check the official site. - anja talk 10:01, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
"Join us starting at 19:01GMT to visit the Far Shiverpeaks..." I think you should check it. 19:01 GMT = 7:01 PM, doh.
The american site states otherwise. :/ See here "Early access begins on August 24, 2007 at 12:01 AM Pacific time (-7 GMT)." (cited) - anja talk 10:25, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Np, but, well, we are talking about European time, so it should be PM, not AM.
I don't think the event will start at midnight in America and in the evening in Europe. One of them is wrong. We'll see which one :)
(edit)I just checked the english european website, it states 8am BST now. - anja talk 11:15, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
So, just count. European Sneak Peak will last 3 days and American 2 days and 12 hours? Well, you are right, it states now morning time, but wasn't previous. And just look at these screenshoots: http://img490.imageshack.us/img490/6968/gw721re0.jpg http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/8964/gw719eo3.jpg http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/8238/gw720pc0.jpg everywhere 21:00 (GMT +2), so in GMT it's 19:00, in other words 7PM.
"Join us starting at 07:01GMT to visit the Far Shiverpeaks, where you’ll meet some of the Heroes you’ve heard so much about, and take part in several of the quests within that region. Remember: All that you acquire will be yours to keep! Enjoy the Sneak Peek through 06:59 AM GMT"-- The Warior Of Timi
Cmon, read me! I told you notice on offical site was changed, another date is stated in login announcements (see screenshots).

(Reset indent) The Sneak Peek Weekend begins at 12:01 AM Pacific time (7:01 GMT) on Friday, August 24. Please see the Sneak Peak Page for information. --Gaile User gaile 2.png 04:42, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

The confusion may be from the fact that at the moment Engalnd is in BST not GMT....so the event will start for us here at 8am (35 minuts ish) --ChronicinabilitY User Chronicinability Spiteful Spirit.jpg 06:23, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Earthquakes![edit]

Earthquakes have begun happening in Lions Arch, Kaineng City and Kamadan, Jewel of Istan. Out of the underground, Rats and Ooze creatures have been appearing in the three cities, and local guards have been reassuring people saying the earthquakes shall stop soon. Jas0n 10:20, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

No earthquake in LA ID1. :( - BeX iawtc 13:08, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
The note about the "screen shaking" is complete BS. I've been in both LA and Kaineng on the hour and nothing happened.--Semantic 14:05, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
It's not BS, it seems like the quakes are random. One just happened in LA at quarter past. - BeX iawtc 14:17, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Earthquakes are very real, and not hard to spot. Even easier is the new NPCs in these ports. Should we consider these extra creatures event NPCs or add them in as normal creatures? Backsword 18:15, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
I would say event NPC's for now, as its just for the sneak-peek and if they are to be seen in GW:EN, change the information appropriately--User Gummy Joe Sig Icon.PNGGummy Joe 18:28, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, they're either bugged or rely on some arcane technology that's absent from my PC. I've spent a ridiculous amount of idle time in LA today, and I haven't seen even a hint of a quiver. Not only that, but I haven't seen anyone mention quakes in all the random "WTF is this OOZE?" and "EEEEK!!, RATS!!" chatter.--Semantic 18:39, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
It isn't much, the screen shakes for a couple of seconds and rumbling noises are heard and then it is over, I only experienced one as I was passing through the town.--User Gummy Joe Sig Icon.PNGGummy Joe 19:01, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Known Bugs[edit]

  • Clients who are installed on the Window's Boot Camp Partition for Macs experience a unresolvable bug, that causes their clients to crash and reboot Windows when talking to the third female Norn in the mission prior to arriving in the Hall of Monuments. The client freezes and the sound repeats rapidly before rebooting from a memory dump error.

Hmm, has this been verified, is OK on my MacPro with Boot Camp, ATI 1900. Related to Driver issue listed below? (Sanderson 12:58, 25 August 2007 (UTC))

Expanded[edit]

I've expanded the article a bit. I don't know the names of the KC and Kamadan NPCs though, so could someone else add them that knows? Might be missing some other NPC additions too, and then we'll have the travel NPCs later I assume. - BeX iawtc 04:10, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Added the Kaineng and Kamadan NPCs. brains12 (talk) 14:33, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Just saw this on GW.com - To travel to the Far Shiverpeaks and access the Sneak Peek content, speak with one of the following NPCs:
  • Len Caldoron in Lion's Arch
  • Minister of Maintenance Raiugyon in Kaineng Center
  • Bendah in Kamadan

I'll go add those in now then User-brains12-scale-sig.png brains12 13:58, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Why LA and not Ascalon?[edit]

Why are the earthquakes happening in LA and not Ascalon? You would think that with this town being 1.) in the the North and 2.) the nation fighting the Charr... would be the ones experiencing the quakes. Although, I am surprised that Ice Tooth Cave isn't having the tremors either... that was the location i truly thought the path way to GW:EN was going to be from. SabreWolf 06:51, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Every "main" town has the earthquakes (Kaineng, Kamadon, and Lion's Arch) That is because every campaign is meant to access it, so requiring prophecies wouldn't be very beneficial. Not to mention that Ascalon takes extra effort to get to for a non-prophecies character, and those three towns are the primary access points for each campaign anyway. (hope you don't mind, fixed up your comment a bit spelling wise)Txzeenath 06:57, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Also, it's explained that port cities have been specifically effected, which makes sense because Lions Arch, Kamadan and Kaineng Center are all port cities.

GW:EN Sneak Peak - European[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

Gaile, can you confirm beginning time of Sneak Peak in Europe? There is a one, big misunderstanding: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Talk:Guild_Wars_Eye_of_the_North_Sneak_Peek_Weekend#Time

I have responded on that page. The start time is 12:01 AM Pacific time (7:01 GMT) on Friday. That means the event begins in just about 2 hours. --Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:05, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes but GMT is confusing because us peeps in Englard are on BST at the moment :) --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 06:24, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Lemming! If I can keep British time straight, and I'm 6,000 miles away, I expect you and your peeps to get it straight, too! :D --Gaile User gaile 2.png 06:25, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah us peeps in Englard lol have a bit of a problem with time. I still use the world clock for matters like these. xD --Alien User Alien Sig.png 11:31, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Just remember GMT=UTC (might differ with a second or so) and GMT =/= England time, Lemming ;) - anja talk 11:37, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
I think what Lemming means is that whether Gaile really means GMT (~UTC) or BST (GMT+1) when a common misunderstanding causes people, including Arenanet (Factions world preview), to say GMT when they mean BST...-- User indochine sig icon.pngIndochine talk 11:55, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Oh, ok, I didn't know that had actually happened. Then I can understand the confusion :) But I also guess they wont make that mistake again (at least not that often ;) ) - anja talk 12:02, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
We do not use BST unless we are citing something that is specific to those only in that area. We might have an office in Brighton, England, but we think in GMT. When we give times, we give Pacific time (we no longer use Pacific daylight or Pacific standard, we're using the proper time for the date in question) and we then use -7 GMT in the summer and -8 GMT in the winter, depending on whether we are in daylight saving time, as we change and GMT never does. Again, we don't use CEST or BST or other time zones very often, and when we do, we call them out spefically. Our European point of reference is GMT, Greenwich Mean Time also known as UTC. --Gaile User gaile 2.png 06:39, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

The Charr have some Monster Skill that they use and the animation is the Tiger Emote from the Hero Title track. I believe it's when someone around them dies, they gain a bunch of energy and all those Charr affected show a Tiger Emote just like players with R9+Alovich 16:38, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Ahhh right, I haven't got that far yet. User-brains12-scale-sig.png brains12 21:07, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

It is Gloat. I have not been able to see what it does, but the icon is that of a monster-skill icon. I know all ranger Charr use it... but the other prof's might as well.
Yeah I laughed so hard when I saw this. I was owning the Charr as most of them were level 8 but this ranger did the rank emote and then died. Dancing Gnome 07:11, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Driver Problem[edit]

QUOTE:Some players using Intel graphics chips have found that after loading Boreal Station, their client now crashes when under graphical stress. This is due to a driver failure, which requires a full system reboot and causes a message stating that the system has recovered from a serious system error. There is no known fix at the time, but keeping movements and camera rotations to a minimum when one's frame rate is low (during loading, etc.) minimizes the frequency of the error. Unlike the "boot camp" error, crashing can occur at virtually any time.[It should be noted that many Intel-based Macs use Intel graphics chips -- the graphics driver is the likely cause of both of these problems.]

I was suffering from this problem in a more serious manner, my graphics chipset would fail under any kind of graphical stress and the screen would turn black for 5-15 second periods. However I have found what seems to be a solution (no problems yet basically ^^) I simply typed in the number and make of my lappy's chipset into google and found an update for it. I played Guild wars for about an hour after that and no problems. However im not sure if it has fixed 100% so ill keep you posted :) --Alien User Alien Sig.png 11:55, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Dungeon Bugs[edit]

I have been able to level 2 dungeon of Sepulchre of Drarimmar. Me and my party has complete the dungeon, so I guess this bug is only sometimes? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:70.65.166.45 .

Title Based Skills[edit]

The trend to make PVE skills title based is not really appealing to the casual gamer demographic. I realize that content should provide longevity, but there are players out there who buy Guild Wars to play on a very casual level. In the beginning any type of functional PVE content was accessible to all types of player. Lately the functional content being introduced is acquired exclusively through a time investment playing style and the game may be losing it's appeal to the casual player audience.

Here is something I thought of while going out for coffee. It is a new NPC that allows a casual player to enjoy the PVE skills as well, although in a very limited fashion. A special NPC called a Faction Skill Trainer will be available in specific outposts. In exchange for faction earned a player may choose to level up 1 skill of their choice. With each faction Title earned a player will still have all of their skills from that faction level up.

What this does is it makes PVE skills available to all players regardless of the amount of time they play. The player with more time to invest in the game will have greater versatility in their PVE skill options and more to play with. The casual player with little time to play the game can still enjoy a particular PVE skill that they really like without the requirement of earning titles to do so. --Redfeather 11:45, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Old heroes won't load.[edit]

The event ended with me having three of the EotN heroes in my party. Now, I can't even add Nightfall heroes, and other people have been having similar problems, apparantly. I tried exiting and reloading, didn't help. Arshay Duskbrow 07:12, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Have also been having this problem. --Indecision 07:20, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Methinks the server thinks we still have the heroes in our party, which is why I can only add 2 old heroes to my party and not 3 since I had Ogden with me when we all got disconnected. Doll 07:27, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Heard from a random player in town, to try to goto Alliance Battles, or any map that gets rid of your hero panel, (solo missions) and it should auto-kick all of your heroes, bugs and all.. (yet to have been proven) but worth a try. ^^ ♥LadyTemp♥ 08:29, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Cutscene sound problem with King Jalis Ironhammer[edit]

I went through the storyline and enjoyed cutscenes a lot, however at the very last one involving the king of the dwarves I saw what seems to be a timing problem in the audio.

What happened is that I have the option for subtext on and the phrases I could read at the bottom of the screen were cut in audio or in other words they were spoken up to a certain point then the video switched to the next phrase and the sound started on the next phrase too never reaching the end of the prior one.

All of the other cutscenes I could watch were fine. -- Darak 08:32, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Known bugs[edit]

  • It seems that Eye of the North heroes will still occupy a character's hero slots after the event is over. The slots can be cleared by entering an outpost which does not allow heroes, such as the Random Arenas outpost on the Battle Isles.
This does not only happen on Macs but on some PC's too.
  • Places known to crash with Boot Camp:
  • Talking to 1st Norn.
  • Beside pool.
  • Outside Hall of Monuments.
  • Beside single NPC in Eye of the North.
  • Outside gate of Gunnar's Hold.
  • Drakkar lake portal.
  • On several clients, the in-game store is malfunctioning and stating that the account has already purchased the GW GOTY upgrade and GW:EN pre-order when they have not.
  • Sometimes when activating the Northern Proof of Duty in Sepulchre of Dragrimmar the game crashes.

Integrated Graphics Cards & Crashing

  • Some players using integrated Intel graphics chips, Nvidia integrated graphics cards, and ATI Radeon integrated graphics processors have found that after loading Boreal Station, their client now crashes when under graphical stress. This is due to a driver failure, which requires a full system reboot and causes a message stating that the system has recovered from a serious system error. There is no known fix at the time, but keeping movements and camera rotations to a minimum when one's frame rate is low (during loading, etc.) minimizes the frequency of the error. Unlike the "boot camp" error, crashing can occur at virtually any time.[It should be noted that many Intel-based Macs use Intel graphics chips -- the graphics driver is the likely cause of both of these problems.
  • The following graphics cards experience frequent glitches/crashes during game play

Integrated Intel Media Accelerator 900, 945, 950, 965, Nvidia GeForce 6100, GeForce 6150,GeForce Fx 5200, ATI Radeon 9600 AGP, ATI Radeon 9100 IGP, Nvidia 6200LE PCI-E, ATI x600 PCI-E

Places known to crash with integrated graphics chips

  • Talking to 1st Norn.
  • Beside pool.
  • Outside Hall of Monuments.
  • Beside single NPC in Eye of the North.
  • Outside gate of Gunnar's Hold.
  • Drakkar lake portal.
  • The Great Norn Alemoot quest when talking to Sif Shadowhunter
  • When activating the Northen Proof of Duty in Sepulchre of Dragrimmar the game crashes.

Some Possible Solutions

Some people have reported success using different combinations of the "-dx8" and "-noshaders" command line options and turning on or off various Graphics options like "Best Texture Filtering".

On some computers, the Intel graphics chips problems can be resolved by redownloading and reinstalling the client using the new GW client builds. If it does not work, reinstall Windows, and/or Windows Boot Camp as well as the Mac partition by reintegrating it back into one volume, reformatting and reinstalling the Mac side (you can use the preserve data feature), and then reinstalling Boot Camp and Windows XP.

You can skip certain areas that cause the errors on your video card by passing through those troublesome areas using another computer, preferably using non-Intel graphics chips and then starting from there.

Many of the Mobile Intel(R) imbedded graphics chipsets do support dx9 but not have hardware shaders or hardware T&L. I experimented and found an optimal configuration of using -noshaders without -dx8 on the command line. I have a 915GM/GMS on my Samsung Q1 and can play GW:EN without any crashes on it.

According to this PlayNC support page, Intel Graphics Chips 915 and 945 series are currently supported: http://www.plaync.com/us/support/doc_2664.html?prod=48

Therefore there may be a fix shortly for those who have problems running the game on Intel integrated graphics.

Turning down the graphic option "Shader" to low signifigantly lowers lag and crashing. NOTE Windows Vista appears to correct any graphical errors it may encounter, allowing you to continue playing past the areas where errors occur. You should note, however, that there is a momentary screen flash while Windows does this, effectively causing problems if you're currently in battle.

Lionguard Sentries[edit]

These were replaced with the Lionguard Reserves, but have not returned now that the reserves are gone. WOnder if it may be a bug? Backsword 17:17, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
