Talk:The Fissure of Woe
I spent 5 hours in FoW last night and did all the quests, but received no statue.
Possible Bug?[edit]
I sent the following to Anet this morning. Anyone else experience anything like this? I was in the Fissure of Woe this evening with a group of people trying to complete quests in order to get the Eternal Conqueror of the Fissure of Woe statue for my Hall of Monuments. We completed all of the quests except for Slaves of Menzies and The Hunt. The group traveled to the Burning Forest entrance on the side of the Great Battle Field. We cleared a few groups at the start of the area. We were preparing to fight the next group when all of a sudden we were all instantly killed and told our party had been wiped out. We had not engaged in battle. We were just standing there and this happened. My first logical assumption was that some npc died. The npcs from the quests we cleared were not in any range of any patrols or monsters. So what gives? What happened? Is it another glitch with the area? Please help! Thanks. - Well, you can tell what their IP is by going to the History and just see which IP's are on the list. The just go {{Unsigned|Insert IP Adress Here}}.--§ Eloc § 02:27, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....hhhhhhh...hhhhhh....i see XD--Raph 02:36, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
- This also happens frequently when groups are near Fissure Shore...my best guess is there's some not immediatly visible roaming group of monsters that has a path leading directly to an NPC. -AyaStowar
- I know this is an extremely late reply, LOL 4years.. but if something agros the Forgemaster in FoW and he dies, then thats game over, regardless of what Quests are complete. This is the only way I believe to fail at 9/11 if all other quests are completed.--Nataliexxx 01:12, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Quest List and Order of Completion?[edit]
Could anyone tell me the fastest way to do all the quests? I have been there alot lately but i want to slim my time down a little if possible by doing the quests in the fastest order possible, It could really be added to the notes section too to help people. T1Cybernetic 01:13, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- I know this is pretty late, but the order that I do them in is this: Rastigan's first, then I take "The Wailing Lord" from him.
- I head out across the great battlefield and meet up with the Eternal Weaponsmith, who offers the quest "Eternal Forgemaster" and do that one. Also, snag the quests from Kromril, "Army of Darkness"- but don't worry about completing it. Go to the forgemaster, and from him take "Defending the Temple of War" and complete it.
- I get all the other quests from him ("Restore", "Kobay", and "Tower") and then head out after Nimros to pick up The Hunt- nearby killing shard wolf #1. I take off down the tunnel to the beach to clear out the corrupted seed things, completing "Restore".
- At the end of the tunnel, turn right and kill the shard wolf #2 on the beach. Head back up the tunnel and then complete "Kobay." Once Kobay is dead and the quest is complete, head back the way you came and hang a right to kill the shadow army and the shadow patrols around the Tower of Strength, as well as wolf #3.
- Run back to the forgemaster area to snag the tower mage and backtrack with him to open the Tower of Strength in order to complete that one. Leave the tower, head right and wrap around the back of the area till you get to Miko the Unchained- take the quest.
- Head into the burning forest (keep right) and kill the mobs, wolf #4, and the shadow overlords. Once done head back to Miko and get the reward. From Miko, head down the narrow tunnel to the great battlefield once again and complete "Army of Darkness".
- Shard wolf #5 is near the area too, so be sure to scan for him and kill him. Take the book the Priest of Menzines drops to Kromril, completing the quest. Now, all you should have left is the "Wailing Lord", "The Hunt" and "???". Head into the forest and complete the "Wailing Lord", also, make sure you wrap around towards the right and kill shard wolf #6.
- Take the quest "Gift of Griffons" from the Wailing Lord, but DO NOT go near them. Instead, head back to Rastigan, killing the shadow army along the way. Once clear, head back to the griffons, snag 'em and take them to Rastigan. (I know, lots of back and forth, but the griffons melt like butter from enemies). After the griffons are delivered to Rasitgan, kill shard wolf#7 and then you are done! Go get the rewards from the NPC's you need and open the Chest of Woe.
- All in all, I do the run in normal mode with heroes, no running skills, etc. It takes me 1 hr 45 mins to do it. I know it would be faster if I changed the builds up a bit and included IMS skills, but I like to stick with what I know. Hope that helps!Kellenoftavadon 22:29, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thankyou that is very useful, because I roll the way you do with bars I like and in NM with heroes. Appreciate it. Puk 09:44, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
How long?[edit]
So how long does it take to complete all the quests here in one sitting? --Burning Freebies 11:12, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, that depends on how experienced the group is that you're with, party size, and how much time people spend either AFK or waiting for mobs to move to res. Best-case scenario, it could probably be done in 2-2.5 hours with no stopping and a very experienced team. Normally, I'd say anywhere from 3-4 hours, including bathroom breaks and everything. -- TERO talk 19:03, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- Me and my team did it in 1.5 hours. Mostly ursans, 3 monks, and one splinter ranger.
- Me a friend of mine and 6 heroes killed every single enemy in this area in 6 hours XD, with many breaks and i had a crappy elementalist hero, we had 2 spirit Master heroes, 2 monk heroes, 2 Ele nukers, me and my friend were both Dervish. --Demon Of Holy Fire 18:49, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- 1.5 hours. Even without that ursan + 3 monks crap. Just go balanced and stick with a minion master 88.134.246.44 13:20, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- I frequently complete the quest chain in 1.5/2 hours with just a hero team :) me (necro) + sabs 3 necro setup and a couple of elementalists, Borrow your friends heroes and you are all set for a good couple of hours :p T1Cybernetic 15:00, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

I did it in an hour and a half a while ago with my sin friend and myself as an ele. course with hero's. I used a slightly modified version of the Triple Necro Team, and he used vekk, Jora, and i think a monk. Materia user 22:23, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

- Doing it now with a balanced team of me and 7 heroes, nothing special, nearly done and it's taken I guess a couple of hours or so, but at a pretty casual pace, didn't bring any running skills either etc. Could easily do it a lot faster. 86.23.36.100 20:37, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- sound's about right, I went through there earlier with just 7 heroes, Nothing special just a sabway and random warrior heroes and it took exactly 2 hours ;) I just wanted something to do so I wasn't rushing. T1Cybernetic 21:48, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Menzies... Your next![edit]
Deep = Kanaxai. Urgoz= Urgoz. DoA = Mallayx. Sorrows = Iron Forgeman. ToPK= The Darkness. Various EOTN Dungeons = Various Boss-Like Foss. They all have a end boss. with this new Waiting game quest, we are waiting for Dhumm. Maybe Dhumm will become the Final Boss of the UW? and cause the chest to spawn. If they add a Final Boss to the UW, most likely FoW will be next. Maybe Menzies? --68.115.108.135 16:57, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Lord Taeres died but no failure[edit]
I've never seen this before. FOW in HM, Lord Taeres died. We did not get kicked out. Ramei Arashi 02:07, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
- A Lord taeres death does not mean your party will be kicked out. His death only matters if you have not yet taken the Tower of Strength quest. 98.248.90.248 07:24, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Possible Bug[edit]
I Did a FoWsc and beat FoW to get the trophy from it. However, when I switched characters right after beating it to add the trophy to my assassin's Hall of Monuments, I don't have any option to add the trophy. Is it a character based trophy or account based? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 97.121.1.47 (talk).

About the bug note of the article and other misc things[edit]
- One one occasion, a shadow ranger was replaced with a shadow mesmer (i may still have the screenshot).
- Players should not assume that the game is beeing unfair with them when they get no shards. Every player is guaranteed to get at least 3~5 shards (double this number for 4-men fows) at the condition that they dont just kill only quest related foes. Sometimes, the 3 shards that a player did not get will drop from the last 3 foes remaining in the fow.
- Gloom seeds and umbral skeletal limbs always give 13~17 plant fibers/bones when salvaged, making resurection scrolls really cheap.
Yseron - 86.209.64.238 16:36, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, it gets even better than that! I just did a lazyday casual solo w/heroes, netting a whopping 2 shards for the run, but didn't mind, as it was first run in a very long time and I was having oodles of fun anyway. However! Upon opening the Chest de la Whoa, what falls out in addition to the normal goodies but my final, third shard! So, you never know. If they're not fallin', keep on truckin'! I mean, honestly, if that is the ONLY reason you go, you're probably better off farming gold elsewhere and buying them instead. You know, just like you shouldn't go to a casino without first assuming you lost all your money before walking in. If you're okay with that and are going for the fun, then -and only then- you're in the right frame of mind. ;o) 142.136.136.34 02:01, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
PS: for knowledgeable people only - interrupting ~90% of the cave spiders "apply poison" is one the rare things that the game reward directly with incoming drops. Yseron - 86.209.64.238 16:44, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Why go here exactly?[edit]
Except for the items why go here? There doesnt seem to be much story here (based on the actual page) nor do I see reasonable or notable law behind it, just Balthazar and his blood lust. Can anyone enlighten me on this seemingly pointless place? I know there must be some reason for it as it's constently mentioned as leet end of game material. I also might be a noob for asking, but why else does one stop being a noob? -- Magican talk 06:59, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

What a disappointment[edit]
I've been playing Guild Wars now for about 4 years.I decided to give Quests in Fissure of Woe a try and maybe pick up a few good things.Well I got nothing more than I could have just farming or repeating secondaries in the "normal GW world".I do better In regular HM, what gives?Has it been completely farmed out so the newcomers there get nothing?Has it all ways been like that?Shouldn't it that the first time you do the Quests there you get something neat the next time you go its not so good.Maybe the drop rate should be account based or a time wait per character (maybe 30 days)like other locations in the game.Basically I'm saying it's just not worth the effort.(Indifferent Omnivore 02:45, 13 September 2010 (UTC))
- It's more about the fun than the item getting, but in HM, you get more drops from the FoW chest, which can drop some pretty nice things. Vald [Citation Needed] 02:47, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- You get a HoM statue for completing it the first time 83.160.29.246 18:48, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

- That sounds like an artifact of something on your end, likely associated with graphics card or settings (people notice stuff like this more often using TexMod, but it can happen under various circumstances even without add-ons and with high end computer/GPU — e.g. I just saw the game unable to render some dropped items right outside LA; I rezoned and problem went away.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:59, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
Rastigan the Eternal: Tower of Courage[edit]
It should be noted as I found out the hard way, this idiot becomes your ally the moment you arrive, and begins moving as soon as you kill a Quest related foe; YOU dont have to accept a Quest to find yourself Saddled with Prince Suicide and his protection. 1st and probably only time I'll go here myself. A-net Why, why oh why the obsession with missions where the player must protect an NPC with the Death wish. Honestly, I think you could count the themes of the various quests on one hand. The art and tactical play of this game are amazing; but the writing is sub par for a comic. Its such a shame really. --Blackbirdx61 21:13, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- So delay killing the Abyssals and Shadow Rangers until as late as possible - you could even leave one ranger alive while clearing the rest. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 22:01, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, the Wiki on Rastigan indicates he moves as soon as a Quest related foe is killed, what your saying would modify that and honestly make the zone more playable, I'll have to playtest that Thanks again for the Guidance. : ) BB. --Blackbirdx61 00:35, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
My ele is having a different experience with Rastigan. As long as I don't get close enough to "see" him, he doesn't move. I can clear all enemies around the tower, then move towards him. When I can see his exclamation above his head, he starts to move. I posted a very short video here - [2] Hope it's ok to link to it here. LarryS 19:09, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
- As per Tower of Courage, "It is possible to prevent Rastigan from running forward after aggroing one of the Shadow Army groups if your party is well out of his range. The groups can then be defeated at your own pace. When you are ready for him to run forward, move within his range." Yoshida Keiji talk 15:14, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
My experience with Rastigan is that if I do not go near him I can begin to clear, however, he will start moving if an errant patrol gets close to him. Helyanwe 03:20, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
