Talk:The Sulfurous Wastes
After my first run through of the area to clear it completely, I ran it again to keep up the farming. This time around, the total number of enemies killed to clear the area dropped to 254. What totals have other people had to go through to clear the area? I'll leave the note as is for now, but it's not exactly accurate at the moment. Henry of Navarre 18:52, 21 April 2007 (EDT)
- That's the problem with Vanquishing - the spawns are somewhat random and pop-ups (e.g. Mandragores) don't count unless you actually agro them. All the figures will have to be ranged, e.g. 254-290 or whatever --Snograt 19:00, 21 April 2007 (EDT)
I've posted the range I have so far, and we're about to make another run. Please adjust the range if you get values higher or lower than the ones I've seen.Henry of Navarre 19:05, 21 April 2007 (EDT)
- Any chance of someone putting a blob on the map where this knockdown column is? I'm farming there quite a bit (haven't vanquished cos of that damn necro) but I've never noticed this bit. --Snograt 23:41, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- Here's map, although I don't know where it can be put on this page. Maybe create page for this pillar as landmark. Matek 12:55, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- The pillar is on the left between the 2 margonite groups you go between after 2nd undead group on lb/ss run.Can be tricky to knockdown as you have to have enough andrenalin to power smash,I often use the 3rd undead group before margonite shrine to get it powered. Can't kill necro boss either only thing stopping me vanquishing the place lol.--Dan Mocha 08:40, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Vanquisher title[edit]
Killed 242 foes for 1,210 experience and 726 gold. Tedium 23:32, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- Huh? I don't know how many I killed, but I got 1650 gold, 1650 xp and 1650 Lightbringer faction. Pudding 15:09, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Please note the time-stamp on the first message! there have been several updates since and when the extra books were added (night falls etc) the points, gold and experience were changed. Quote from vanquish section: In Guild Wars Nightfall, vanquishing an area in Istan or Kourna will earn Sunspear points equal to 5 times the number of monsters killed; while vanquishing an area in Vabbi or the Desolation will earn Lightbringer points equal to 5 times the number of monsters killed.(KILL MementoMori 13:14, 12 March 2009 (UTC))
- I vanquished with no active quests and defeated 248 enemies (avoiding several of the mandragor groups). I don't know if it matters that I had not yet accepted either quest from Infantryman Hareh (are the graves still there if you've finished them?). In any case, that number is significantly lower than the one given in the notes, I think it maybe should be adjusted. -Sahjiarah 20:38, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
Points Not Increasing as I kill elementals and /or Margonites[edit]
For some reason even with the bounty my Lightbringer points do no go up. The only place they go up is when I fight as a human in the Mirror of Lyss area. Am I doing something wrong? Is this just the way the game works? Thescottguy 01:01, 5 January 2008 (UTC)thescottguy
- If you read the bounty text carefully, not every bounty gives you LB points and not every bounty gives points for all creature types. Also... I don't understand what you mean by when I fight as a human... your character can't be anything other than a human. -- ab.er.rant 07:12, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Wurm Teleport Bug[edit]
I found this when I attempted to knock down the pillar near Remains of Salahja, using wurms. I found that if I flagged my heroes to the around the pillar, then took the long way round to cross it, accidentally dying, the hero teleport bug acivated. With my party on the South-East side of the bridge, I changed the flag to the cliff, an area the heroes can't move through. Bizzarely, this made my heroes teleport, leaving me with 3 wurms in an area that would not usually be accessable to wurms.

Vahlen the Silent location[edit]
I am having trouble locating with wiki map. So is it the right spot or for some reason I can't find the boss?--King Ranik 19:20, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- Nope, that's where Vahlen is, all right. Killed him there last night and, for me, he's always been there. The only boss in the area you can kill without getting into a worm first. --snograt 18:09, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Big group, more pain. Hard to miss. Maybe an undocumented quest effect? (KILL MementoMori 13:18, 12 March 2009 (UTC))
Sulfurous Wastes doesnt kill pets[edit]
Was just doing Gate of Desolation and my pet ran out to attack Amind The Bitter and didnt die...he was far enough out to were it should have killed him, but then Gehraz ran out to attack him and died on the spot. 74.5.190.35 00:35, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
The Pillar[edit]
Is this just Anet's way of saying they dont like people that VQ? After vanquishing all but three enemies, I cannot reach the other three. I map out, VQ again, same problem. 4 more times before i go to the wiki. Then, when i junundu smash there, it doesnt work. I just spent the last day vanquishing te same area over, and over, and the question came to me.. why. Why would Arena net do something so ridiculous as this. There's nothing to melee near it, so there's no reason to use Junundu Smash there, and if you kill everything, too bad, you've just wasted your time. I officially hate you arena net, and i refuse to play this game again until you remove this retarded idea, that has no real purpose other than to make your players want to kill themselves. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.121.255.97 (talk).
- You can kill the pillar with Junundu Siege or with any Vampiric bow (a flatobow works best). — Raine Valen 22:19, 9 Feb 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, I may be thinking of the wrong pillar; the one I destroyed with a vamp flatbow was the one you need to kill with junundu siege. If they share any mechanics, though, you may be able to kill it with Unholy Feast. — Raine Valen 22:22, 9 Feb 2011 (UTC)
- I do not believe this particular pillar is able to be targeted, which is why some people find it hard to locate the first time through.
- Also, IP, remember that HM was added after the introduction of NF, so while this was originally a fun effect for players to discover, it has unfortunately turned into a frustration for those looking to vanquish. Feel free to swing by Feedback:Getting started where you can create suggestions for Anet after you have made an account on this wiki. G R E E N E R 22:55, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- You would have thought that the guy would know to start from Remains of Sahlaja from the second time onwards to try and reach the northern group of enemies first before trying to vanquish the area... oh well at least he got the gold and drops 220.255.4.28 01:32, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

- Imagine my annoyance when I was having trouble killing Bohdabi the Destructive and co. and looked at the wiki page to find any possible tips for dealing with him and then seeing the note about the pillar and realizing I had to re-zone because it was impossible for me to knock it down at that point. Seriously, it would NOT be very hard to just add a small mass of land to bridge the gap (it wouldn't even need to replace the pillar just put it to the side a few feet away and have it connect to the other side) or an even MORE simple fix would be to just make Junundu Smash cost energy instead of adrenaline (although it would need a recharge time in that case) even though it's not obvious to use the smash like that AT ALL in the first place. Pjwned 05:14, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- I was fortunate enough to notice those enemies were inaccessible about halfway through my first attempt at vanquishing. When I saw the pillar and noticed I could not target it, that's when I checked the wiki. On my second attempt, I headed directly to the pillar with enemies in tow so I could make sure I had the adrenaline to knock it down. Success! A real (and easy) solution, though, would be to simply make the pillar targetable, and allow it to be knocked down with Junundu Siege. --Sahjiarah 20:44, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- I ussually plan my vanqs out (well the pathing to do) to minimize back tracking and so planned on ending at the monoliths. I knew full well there was zero chance in hell that would ever happen because of stupid shit like this. Got to monoliths and killed them. Like 10 foes left on map and was like...wtf. Started searching and remembered the foes I had to pass up because it was taking too long picking them off from below in the wurms. Was like eff, never reached that half of the plateau while clearing the north west corner. So went back up there and was like...ok? went to remains of sajala thinking there was maybe a small path there....was like....ok? went back to the foes and noticed pillar and remembered the mission where you had to kill the pillar to cross over. Was like...ok? cant even target it. Tried a couple pbaoe my heros happened to have but didnt know what it would take to even drop it. Gave up and came to wiki thinking I got screwed by a bug. Nope, have to build adren and use junda smash. Glad I thought I was waisting my time picking those foes off from below because if I hadnt left them I would have had no way to build adrenalin up to knockdown that pillar to reach the last 3 foes. And I checked, there is no way to aggro those last three. There patrol ends just shy of the aggro bubble. NF has been out for 4 years and they havnt changed this? True peeps have been vanqing this zone for just aslong I suppose. Justice 07:15, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

Note about Bohdabi the Destructive[edit]
The note under the small vanquishing section that says "Bohdabi the Destructive's undead mob in the northwest can be hard to handle on foot. You can make use of the wurm spoor in the extreme northwest and then aggro as many monsters as you can" is really not helpful. How do I do this without going into an area where wurms can't even go? I don't see any way to do it except to go up the path near the shrine with the ghostly priest. Pjwned 15:31, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- Sometimes Bohdabi's mob will wander close enough that you can aggro them from the bottom of the cliff, while in junundu. It seems to be pretty rare that this happens, though. -- Hong 15:52, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- I see, thanks. Sounds a little unreliable (I've never seen Bohdabi's group move more than a few feet) but it seems like my only chance of not getting horribly raped. Seriously, that mob is pure bullshit on hard mode. It wouldn't even be so bad if the thought leeches didn't use Signet of Humility and acolytes resurrecting EVERYTHING if you wipe so you can't even get any progress. Pjwned 17:04, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- make sure to do it with other players and take lots of cons and dp removal with you :P Magamdy 19:18, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- It's hard to even find a group (much less one that isn't full of dumbasses) to vanquish areas so that's usually not an option. I managed to beat it though as I mentioned below. Pjwned 20:57, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- Well, I managed to kill Bohdabi and co. after using a full set of consumables and some additional blessings from a couple res shrines nearby and that made it MUCH easier, but that was the only way I managed to do it. I would suggest to other people if you're having trouble killing this group just go nuts with consumables (and a summoning stone too even which I realize I forgot to use). Pjwned 20:57, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- I was able to defeat them fairly easily the two times that I tried it (though I died once the second time). It might help a lot to bring a minion master to help draw their fire along with a few AoE skills for when they conveniently clump. Also be sure to take out the Awakened Acolytes first, or they'll rez everyone. To get back on topic, I think Pjwned makes a fair point. Maybe we should remove that tip. --Sahjiarah 20:52, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, not hard at all. One cast of panic and his group was history. 84.171.159.63 01:56, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent.) I managed to beat them with a 7 hero team using wurms and pulling. I flagged one hero away and got everyone else into wurms and into position a little ways back from the edge of the sand. Then I flagged the hero up on the rock and got him to pull the mob down to us. It took a bit of sending him back and forth when they started to lose aggro but wasn't too hard. Only trouble is if you've got 7 heroes or H/H you can't be the one to pull because there's no way to get them into a wurm when you're not or get them to stay in when you leave. Probably easier with more people because humans are better at pulling, but then I guess that's the point of the game really. 109.150.172.234 09:57, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Southwest Temple random one hit KOs?[edit]
I tried to grab the Treasure Chest in the SW corner temple, but something kept one-hit KO-ing random members of my party. It didn't seem to be the Graven Monoliths. Any idea? It only happened inside the temple. -- kazerniel (talk) 23:49, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
