Slavers' Chest

The best place to farm them is probably in Slavers. Also, I have been in more than 100-125 CoF runs, maybe more, and never once has a VS ever dropped in any form. Either I have realy bad luck or it does not drop.

They only drop in areas with Inscriptions, so yes. I don't think it's possible to get a non-inscribable Voltaic Spear short of a glitched one (such as when Deathbane mods used to cause some weapons to not have inscription slots). -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 10:20, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Today was Lucky for Me== So, this is crazy right. I'm dead serious about this, i don't have a screen though (don't know how). I've been doing CoF, Vloxen's, and Slavers all day with a group on HM and there were three Voltaic spear drops from enemies and chests, 1 gold and 2 whites, but it was pretty cool. no that's not what he meant, I think he meant why couldn't it be come kind of lance type weapon? As in a spear that one jabs and parries with, rather than a spear that one throws, thus making the weapon fall under a warrior attribute line instead of paragon. Were you logged in for several hours? Sometimes animations like the ones on the voltaic spear stop working if you have been logged in for a long time, you just need to restart GW if that happens. Auran 20:41, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Enough time has passed

I'm removing the note about Enchanted Spears. I mean - COME ON. I don't care how low the drop rate is. It's CoF ffs. If Enchanted Spears dropped them, there WOULD be a screenie by now. Being able to Assume Good Faith and all is a nice thing, but you have to live in the real world.
CoF is run in teams of 8. Sometimes a hero will make it 7. So, as a rough guide, think of the amount of times that Enchanted Spears have not dropped one, each time, 7.5 people (on average) had the opportunity to take a screenie. Requirement stupidity - Or am I completely missing something?

It's not uncommon to see people (guildies, alliance members, etc) trying to buy Voltaic Spears for their casters, but still insist on it being a requirement 9 one. I mean, what's the point, if they don't even plan to transfer it to a character that effecively uses Spear Mastery? As far as I know, req9 or req13, one will still gain the typical +5 Energy and 20% Enchantment mods from it, no? Usually, people just want a "perfect" item. Sometimes, though, people are stupid and think they need a req 9 to be better. Example: One time, I had a perfect 15^50 r9 mursaat hammer, which somebody wanted to buy, and when I put it up in trade, he said "lol its purple" and canceled the trade, even though there is no difference between gold and purple items. ~Shard 20:14, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

It's a fairly common misconception that lower req weapons do more damage/crit more often.

The higher req can be bad if your running the exact req. Weakness wont just do its -2/3 dmg, it can make your weapon's req too high, can cause an energy loss of up to 9? for offhands and cut in half your shields armor rating. Possible Graphic Glitch

I use a Caster VS spear on my mesmer sometimes, and notice it isn't held correctly; the staff of the spear (or however you wish to phrase it) goes through her thumb, not through the little curve to fit into her hand nicely like her staff does. After a little testing, it sppears to happen on all casters with the VS only (other spears don't have this problem).Moonstruck Muse 05:32, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Many things have that problem, not just the VS. Coloring

I dislike the black VS because there are so many around so I tried to get some nice dye combo's. The one I like the best is blue+green, it makes your voltaic spear dye bright pink!

farming

As a warrior i've used H/H in HM into the Thommas chest around 100 times. My method works very well, but alas no VS has droped. Perhaps the VS will not drop when useing H/H i do'nt know. Nah, no worries - after a felt 150 or more VSF runs I actually did the dungeon the H&H way on my way to complete my Master of the North title. Since doing it in NM I did not really expect something special from the chests. In the Thommis dungeon with the two bosses I got a R9 and another R10 ... in the same "run" - kinda made me wonder why I did all those 150 dry runs where I saw it drop maybe 6 times or so all in all. you're able to do it in many ways but the basic is 1 shadow form assassin running to Thommis's group and balling him and his NPC's up behind the wall then some Ray of judgement or feast of corruptions will kill the group from the other side of the wall. while their energy is being charged by an Blood Is Power necro with 1 hp (55hp necro dying = 1 hp = free infinite sacrifices) there is a Ranger or rit with them for spirits (most of the time with Frozen soil / edge of extinction etc.) thats the basics after killing thommis the wall will drop and you'll have an easy walk in the park to the chest.. --The Holy Dragons 11:43, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

I have 5 separate req9 VSes on my monk for variations of the Of Warding, Of Shelter, Of Fortitude, Of Defense, "Brawn over Brains" and "I have the power!" mods for weapon switching to maximise my PvP output. Dyed pink

Because it's not in the dye chart, here a screenshot. The grip is red, while the tip is white-ish (not so much as dyed white). Ofcourse it still has the blue glowing.

most of the time the term perfect is used by sellers, they are refering to be perfect modded for casters. But calling something perfect isn't objective, it is used as an advertising line. You should always ask bout the way it's modded when the seller is asking more then the normal price for that requirement and attribute. Rumian 08:14, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

GIF animation

I've uploaded a GIF animation of the effect but, unlike the GIF I uploaded on Spiked Targe, in this case the preview doesn't look animated until you click on it and go inside. I believe it's due the filesize (1,4 MB) but I'm not totally sure. Scribeton (talk) 18:01, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
