Backstory[edit]

Used for role playing purposes only. This is not any part of the real GuildWars storyline.

Yumiko was born to a semi-wealthy Canthan family of adventurers in the year 1050 AE (1060 CC) They moved to Ascalon when their section of the city became a haven for Am Fah and Jade Brotherhood. Yumiko was enlisted to the Ascalon Academy as a child and grew up to be a powerful elementalist. In the Nolani Academy during a practice match, she met a fellow Canthan, Hirohito Ishida and fell in love. They married shortly after this meeting and she gave birth to twins not long after that. Her two twin children became part of the Zaishen Order after the searing until Hero battles was replaced for Codex, and they both want back to Cantha to do mercenary work under the Obsidian Flame. When the searing stuck, her and her husband got separated and their parents were killed. She hopes for her husband to return to her and they hope to go back to Cantha to be with their children.

During Yumiko's travels, She met Gadd the Asuran. Who offered her a way for her and her surviving family to live longer than any humans on Tyria. This was the elixir of life or the prototype. He said, "With my abilities with Life Energies and as a expert Golemancer, I can make you and your family live a very long time and never see a blemish or wrinkle for many centuries to come. You can go on adventuring and accumulate wealth for the ages. There is no telling whether my concoction will succeed or even kill you and your husband and kids in the progress, but you Bookah are stubborn to the very mists themselves." Yumiko thought about it seeing how this may help her defeat the destroyers and obliged. After a very nasty aftertaste, the elixir was a success and she and her family never felt more alive and full of energy. When Gadd died after the events of G.O.L.E.M. she was brought to tears along with Vekk's sadness over the news that Gadd was his father.

Spoiler alert: The following text contains spoilers relating to the story of Guildwars 2.

Yumiko and her family decided to go back to Cantha by ship many years after the Great Destroyer was defeated, but Primordius wasn't going to let that happen. Seeking revenge for his fallen general and finally awakened, he and his other fellow sleeping dragons awoke one by one causing mass death and destruction upon all of Tyria. When Orr rose again by the doings of Zhaitan, their ship was destroyed in the process and only Yumiko supposedly survived. She washed up ashore near Rata Sum where a few Asuran folk found the famous hero of Tyria and brought her into the city get her back on her feet. Days later, she set out for Divinity's Reach and started to search for her lost children and husband if they survived at all.

Notes[edit]

  • Yumiko is Japanese for Yu "A Bow/Arrow" and mi "Beautiful" ko is a title for "Girl/Child". It is read, beautiful arrow child/girl.
  • The Dye Trader (Yumiko) in (Seitung Harbor) shares this name, clearly a mistake by ArenaNet not knowing it is a strictly female given name.
  • Many players will see her name thinking the name is from the anime Bleach because of her last name Ishida. This is neither a coincidence nor a direct reference.
  • The Gadd part of her bio is in fact an indirect reference to my character's race in a story I'm working on. I just adapted her to Guild Wars and not vice versa.
  • She likes to wear bows, sometimes rather large. Maybe GW 2 will have hair bows for head gear?
  • Blue is her favorite color.
  • Her favorite expression is denoted by ^.~ in game. Expect extreme cuteness to follow.
