Mallyx the Unyielding

Hey Anja, can you have a look at the Mallyx the Unyielding article specifically the species because as far as I know that info is wrong, this is also partly because as I've already reverted that change once before I'm unsure if I can do it again. explanation

She treats us like young lower graders, preached us what you all have to do in order to succesfully protect these poor little birds, as they were so selective and needed a calm environment as otherwise they wouldn't copulate. You get the feeling that she thinks she's the only one that knows about the entire situation. All people are digging peat, though it is at cost of the fens, and is't actually even good for the plants, but nobody knows about it. Or she supposed that we meet her with our bikes after school to drive into the forest and look at a specific plant.

Mask galleries

Anja, I'm a wee bit confused, sweetheart. Why are the mask galleries requiring a second mask image uploaded instead of just directing to the pre existing grey front mask previews. Okay I know that sentence was crap. (god, I need to work on my English skills). Anyway to clarify, what i mean is that we already have mask images on the relevant pages such as Gallery_of_female_mesmer_Primeval_armor, with a front mask image found at Image:Mesmer_Primeval_armor_f_gray_front_head.jpg, however the mask page instead of just directing to that image, directs to Image:Mesmer_Primeval_Mask_f.jpg, which seems like a laborious way of getting mask images. As the gallery is missing images which we actually have in the relevant armour gallery. I know I've explained myself in a really clumsy way, but I think you'll get what i mean. -- Salome 12:34, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Yea, I know it seems silly. The thing is, I know me and Bex (and probably a few others) discussed this and somehow found good arguments for keeping it that way, but I can't for my life remember them now :/ I guess it could have to do with uploading mask pictures in any color, not just gray ones. By having the same name, we would "force" people to upload grey masks, while what we really want is just a clear view of the mask in any color, on the headgear main pages. Also, I guess we just wanted to keep our consistent naming scheme. Does that make sense?
I think of it this way: When no image exists, keep the image names different so we at least can get some image on the main page, even if it's not grey. When a grey one is uploaded, and no image is on the headgear main page, replace the Image:Mesmer_Primeval_Mask_f.jpg with Image:Mesmer_Primeval_armor_f_gray_front_head.jpg. If an image, that is not grey, is on the main headgear page, let the other name stay in the gallery so we get a grey one there. (Messy, I know.) - anja 12:46, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Cool that's what I have been doing. As you probably know im trying my best to get the galleries sorted as it bugs me having all these red links kicking about. I'm not sure that the grey mask picture thing is an issue anymore with the advent of the dye preview window. As honestly I think mask pictures taken on the dye preview window are best as it's the best ambient light in the game, thus you don't get issues like random lighting effects and odd glare/shadows. It also allows zooming in to a zoom which is hard to emulate anywhere else in game, but thats just my oppinion. I think once we get all the grey masks sorted out in the armour galleries then perhaps we should open the floor again to discuss if the mask galleries should be changed to redirect to the grey mask previews for conformities sake, but until then I agree with you in that following the naming convention will allow us to keep check of whats missing and what we've got and in which galleries it's been put. -- Salome 12:57, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Delete or not to delete that is the question!

Hey Anja, sorry to bother you but as you were the first one to remove the deletion tag from this image I was wondering why you had originally removed it? It was re-added two days after you did the revert and so I removed it since I figured you had a reason for doing so but it's been re-added yet again; this is probably why I dislike that Orphaned Image tag from GWWT, especially considering I've seen images uploaded and tagged for deletion within a matter of days because they weren't presently used (sorry to dump that semi-rant on your talk page). So anyway what are we going to do considering it's only been just over a month since it was uploaded? --Kakarot 14:38, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

My first reason for removing it was that it was tagged so close to original upload. Since it's uploaded as a sig image, it's natural that it wont be used until the person talks, if you know what I mean :) And at that point I didn't see any talk page comments done after the upload. I think we should just notify the user that it's tagged and ask if they are going to use it, that's the simple solution.
I agree about the orphaned images thing, when it has just been a day it doesn't really qualify as orphaned, imo. I wish we could make a list based on orphaned images, but with the extra criteria that it has to have been there for at least 1 month (2 months? 6 months? something). Elementalist head gear galleries

Anja I need your help. I'm looking at the elementalist headgear galleries and getting a wee bit confused. All the other Eyes and Auras have their own individual page whereas the vabbian eyes don't. Now i understand this is probably due to the vabbian eyes being tied to one armour set instead of being tied to the entire campaign like the auras were tied to factions. However it does make them significantly less visible than their none-prestige counterparts. SO I suppose what I'm asking is should we go ahead and make a head gear page for each of the vabbian eyes in the same way that we have a page for each other eye and aura, such as Elementalist Storm Aura ??? -- Salome 11:24, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok, first of all, I don't think they need separate pages, since that would duplicate info that could be kept on one page without much confusion. We could instead link like we do with the other eyes, but instead to the Vabbian page, like [[Elementalist Vabbian armor|Flame]] and [[Gallery of female elementalist Vabbian armor|Female]] and Male respectively, for each eye, which makes the galleries easier to reach.
Second, I like your design change apart from the linking, as I just mentioned how I would like it. Nightfall prestige art makes more sense, and we don't need to have a "Vabbian eyes" link if we link above the picture like we do with the others. I also noticed the naming table needs an update for Eye of the North. :) - anja 14:53, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Yup i see your point. Only problem then is the fact that we have no place to put side views of the vabbian eyes. As if we put side views of all 5 eyes on the vabbian armour page its going to make the page HUGE, but all the other head pieces have side pictures. We also then have an issue with the fact that all the other elementalist head gears are mentioned in the Template:Elementalist_armor_nav except for the vabbian ones. I think a possible idea is to take your first point e.g redirecting the type of eye back to the vabbian page [[Elementalist Vabbian armor|Flame]], but instead of redirecting the male and female ones as you suggested, [[Gallery of female elementalist Vabbian armor|Female]], instead direct them to [[Gallery of female elementalist Vabbian Everlasting Eye|Female]], so that we can at least make individual pages for vabbian eyes in the same way we have for every other headpiece, e.g Gallery of female elementalist Elementalist's Aura. What do you think? Either that or we can try and work out a way of formatting the vabbian armour pages to incorporate all 5 eyes and their side views. EDIT: to help clarify what i mean ive updated my Proposed change page to reflect what i mean, incorporating your first suggestion on the linking but keeping the second as is. -- Salome 15:26, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

I was thinking we might do a Gallery of female Vabbian eyes instead, so we collect all of the eyes and their side views there, though I'm not that opposed to having one gallery for each eye. Hmm.. Do you have a good name for such galleries? With Vabbian it's easier, since we can call them Vabbian eyes. But what are the others, just eyes and auras? Well I think the aura onees should be easy enough to name as your suggested name of "gallery of female elementalist auras" seems to work well enough for that, for the eyes however it might be a bit more tricky due to vabbian being eyes also. Maybe gallery of female elementalist standard eyes, doesnt really trip off the tongue though does it? It's a shame we cant call them tyrian eyes as they are available in elona too. Sigh... Okay I've updated all the Elementalist_headgear to reflect what we discussed. I've only done the female pics thus far, i'm gonna start working on the male pics tonight but my problem if that i wont be able to supply Vabbian eye male pictures as I can buy all the other eyes again (as i can get them for 15 gold each from shing jea and ascalon) but it's a pain in the knackers getting to the bazaar and then investing in 5 eyes for 100k ish just for pics, so I'm gonna have to leave those pics to someone else. Which is a pity as i wanted to have the whole thing done. The sooner they make a gender change tonic the better then i dont have to fanny about with remaking pve chars over and over just to screen cap the different sexes. :) Anyhoo tell me what you think of the updated ele page please. Anja, no offense love, as I do have alot of respect for you on this wiki, but i'm getting bored of respected users constantly being told off for their comments while trolls are left to do what they wish until they cause a drama. This wiki has become about not antagonizing trolls, instead of just banning them and letting everyone else get on with life.

Considering the last time this fella spoke to regina, concerning piplups, he told regina to go fuck herself, also seeing as his post was clearly troll fodder, it seemed like a fair enough question to ask why he isn't banned. Also considering that most of his interaction on the wiki is with skakid in which he just basically slags people off, it also seemed a fair enough question. Added to that it was hardly a personal attack. Asking why someone isn't banned yet in light of their past history of being rude and obnoxious to other users is a fair question. I think if you want an example of a personal attack you'll find that calling someone a nigger is a personal attack not to mention racist to boot.

On a side note as a sysop why are you also not telling him that his piplup is in contravention of policy due to copyright and it doesn't redirect to the persons page which again is in contravention.

I'm not trying to get at you here Anja, as you know i have alot of time for you, I'm just getting sick of the current admin attitude of trying to avoid conflict with trolls by telling off users they know will pay heed to them instead of focusing their energies on actually getting rid of the troll himself. The fact that it took me 48 hours to finally decide to upload images on to the male Mesmer monument armour as i was actually worried that it could cause drama with Kougar and that an admin was going to tell me off for antagonizing Kougar is a sad state of affairs, especially when the pic i finally did upload is of a clearer quality than what was their previously. The fact of the matter is that alot of helpful users, who care about this wiki and the sysops, are walking on eggshells on this wiki as they are trying not to say anything which could be construed as antagonizing a troll, while the trolls can say anything they like as they don't care what people on this wiki think of them. The sysops in response to this instead of targeting the trolls actions are instead patrolling those of us who do care and we're being told to change our actions as the sysops know that we are the easiest ones to appeal too.

Honestly my inquiry as to why he isn't banned yet, was in no way deserving of the line "you're still a nigger who needs to shut the fuck up", and your wee post of "Responding to attacks with more attacks doesn't make yours better. Please avoid them" was just plain offensive. Mine was an idle, all be it not particularly polite, inquiry as to why a known troll isn't banned, his was an out and out racist attack which should have got him an instant ban, not a statement from you, which although trying to be balanced in what you said to both parties, ignored the fact that what both parties said wasn't balanced in the first instance. Fair enough i might have been deserving of a wee slap on the wrists for my comment but he deserved a bloody ban.

Sysops need to stop equating giving equal warning as the same as being fair, if someone says something minor and someone says something vastly more insulting then the gravitas of their actions should be reflected in the severity of the sysops response. Honestly i think that sysops need to actually take a stance instead of just avoiding confrontation all the time and letting the trolls run riot./endrant

First of all, Tab was banned for the last "violation" and it has now worn off. Thus, I thought your comment was uncalled for, it's not a fair question. It might be a realistic question, but it is not a fair question. He got banned, lived with it, and is now back. That's fine.
Secondly, his Piplup image is NOT something to bring up on Reginas talk page. I'm not protecting him, I'm "protecting" Regina. Apart from that, it has been discussed already on the image's talk page if it is ok or not, and last I checked it seemed ok. Bring your concerns up there if you disagree.
In regards to his image not redirecting to his page, I had no idea. I tried to deal with an aggravating situation, not a signature image. Sorry, but I prefer to take things one at a time. Feel free to bring that up yourself on the noticeboard if it irks you that much. It is not "my job as a sysop", my job involve blocking and deleting, everyone can inform anyone about our policies.
I understand your concern about nice users being afraid of antagonizing, since they get told off. I agree that is how it looks, or are, sometimes. My reasoning this time is that he outlasted his ban fine, then posts something new and at once get provoked by someone (doesn't matter who). In that light, I personally prefer to just warn the previously banned user, to let them calm down, and give the provoking user a heads up that the comment wasn't appreciated. That's my view, and that's why I acted the way I did. If you don't think that's enough, feel free to bring it to another sysop's attention.

Also in light of me saying "in your role as sysop..." i didnt mean that in isolation, I just meant taken in context he was replying to me actually saying something about his piplup image being in violation of copyright, (which i'm legally right on unless Nintendo has released the image into the public domain which i don't think they have), so seeing as his insult was in response to that i just thought it might have been apt in your response to him, to actually tell him that i was right in what i said. However as you said that's not your job and i apologise for that comment, also i wasn't aware that their had been discussion about the image prior which had reached a flawed conclusion that the image was not in breach of copyright.
