oh also[edit]
s4 now has a PvE mode, is hard :<
developer tip: games that start out PvP-based should stay PvP-based. I don't care if they die in ~1 hit, you vs. 5 enemies at once for like 10 waves is too hard in a game where things are supposed to die and res frequently. Vili 点 10:34, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- Use more sword. Misery 10:35, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- Aftercast is too long and AoE too small, tbh. A number of enemies also cause knockback with every hit which stops you mid-swing too. Might be able to get away with a CS boom-boom-boom except there's also tons of enemies with guns too. (And I was only on the first level!) It is just not designed for solo play (unless I am totally missing something) - there are just not enough health drops, and none of the defensive skills in s4 are meant to protect against that many foes. (Especially if they surround you. It's like Chaser except you can actually lose the game. I am wondering if there are out-of-the-way places to Fly to, but can't afford it.) Vili 点 10:43, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- Panic and I used to make people lose Chaser all the time :> Misery 10:46, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- I used to make people lose Chaser all the time. PS knocklock chains are fucking epic win. :> is for Raine, etc. 10:49, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- I am pretty sure enemies have greatly reduced stun duration but I guess I don't have anything else to try. It would help if the bosses didn't have a billion health since stun does so little damage (something like 10-20 FULL SMG clips discharged, with a bunch of criticals and ALSO +50% attack buff on - and there's two of them - and that is only the tutorial). Vili 点 10:53, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- I mean in chaser. You could just Jump -> dash -> heavy (wall KD). Over and over again. Hell, you didn't even have to Jump except to drain SP at the beginning. is for Raine, etc. 10:57, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- Oh. I preferred juggling them with Rail Gun shots. :> Too much room for error at melee range if the chaser also carries some melee (most do these days, even if just the Training PS)...especially when more than one person is knocking the chaser around, sometimes they'll hit them against a not-wall and then you are in trouble. Vili 点 11:05, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- You can usually tell whether the KD was successful before you get owned (still causes a decent knockback); that gives you plenty of time to react. Swords are pretty damn clumsy at a distance; if you can get in the clear before they recover from the blow, it's not hard to dance around until you get another opening. I'm bad, so I don't weaponswap much in sword matches, but it just becomes loleasy if you've got a CS or bat on a swap. is for Raine, etc. 11:11, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- Misery and I were pretty amazing at wall locking chasers with storm bats. Just get them on a wall, put one person on either side and spam left click. WWWWWHOCK! WWWWWWHOCK! WWWWWWWWWHOCK! Also, I was unbelievably epic at uppercutting chasers off the circle map. Misery's seen me end a Circle Chaser in 5 seconds several dozen times probably. And if they brought fly, just rail gun them. - S4 is awesome btw. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 22:15, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
- Yes. Misery 22:16, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
- It's awesome except for the fact that it is impossible to stay solvent without playing a hell of a lot. I calculated it one time, and you need to earn like... 900 PEN every day for armor stuffs (and that is assuming you stay with the cheapest pieces), anywhere from 4-18 PEN per minute depending on how many and what weapons you are using, and finally 9 PEN per minute for skills. Costs can be reduced a little bit by using the "training" equipment and HP+15 skill, but even those cost a little bit of PEN eventually for "repairs". You could also skip some of the optional armor pieces like shoes and gloves, which only give small bonuses, but that makes you less and less competitive. Basically, to stay fully equipped, one needs to earn 900 PEN every 24 hours regardless of actual time spent playing, and during time playing, you need to average at least 27 PEN per minute of game time to break even on weapons and skills.
- Although S4 starts out a new character with a few freebies, and you can earn some less-powerful weapons from the "license" tutorials, it's really easy to lose that head start. By the time you reach Level 5 and do all of the starter missions, you should have like 50,000 PEN or so. But there is one critical thing that makes this really inadequate: most of your freebie weapons are inferior to the buyable counterparts, so you are still at a disadvantage - and, to be able to properly play in all of the game types, a multitude of different equipment/skill sets are needed! With few exceptions, the same setup won't work in every place. SP Mastery, Anchor, Block, etc. are a must for TD matches, Detect and Flying are great in DM or Chaser, Bind is for super pros, I don't know what works in Arcade ... you need a Handgun for running the ball in TD, at least one melee weapon to participate in a lot of matches (melee-only are popular), a Rail Gun and/or Semi Rifle since snipers are almost always useful, and so on and so forth. While it is certainly possible to fight matches on your own terms and with your favorite equipment, like I did, it's an uphill battle against more specialized opponents. And since you need to earn a certain rate of PEN, one can't afford to lose very often, or even to win cheaply.
- The real irony is that even if you are pro player in one gametype, s4 has an "anti-farming" code that scales your rewards if you play too long in any one match type. For example I'm best in Deathmatch, but if I just played that all day I'd earn less and less rewards, even if my performance remained consistent. It's essential to mix and match game types...yes, even if you are a real pro, you must play some Chaser matches once in a while to keep the farming penalty down. (Not to mention that the Weeklies frequently cover all game types anyway...and those are essential to do also.) Vili 点 03:45, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
- Or, just roll a new character every time you run out of cash and play in free. New character, tutorial, detect license, heal license (if you are me, Smash Rifle if you are Panic), hand gun license is optional because then what you do is waste the ridiculous amounts of starting pen on Fumbi weapons until you have a +6 of whatever you want, a handgun and hopefully a nice plasma sword too. Also, I use detect on everyfuckingthing except chaser because it is a ridiculous advantage to know where your opponents are and I know pew pew jumps on almost every TD map so I can usually keep pace with anchor and fly nigs anyway. Misery 09:48, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Brown Coat[edit]
About the browncoat remark, I hope you didn't take it as an insult. I meant it as a compliment since many people with revolutionary actions like MLKjr, were considered browncoats. Heck, at one point obama was once considered the least likeliest to win the presidency back in 2006. In any case discussion, and going against the grain is something that's admirable to do (as long as it's a civil discussion, which I think that's what we were doing) since it makes people think about the issue more critically, and I agree, the wiki is not a democracy. :) --Lania Elderfire 19:03, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
Ra ladder[edit]
Its not just MB and VoR.What are the odds we'll ever see Ether Prodigy eles again ? Or Energy Surge mesmers (more likely), A good shock axe/dev hammer and a good monk can do alot.I'd even say that if both are good enough they will get atleast 10 wins.So they are competitive. My problem is that by design classes that don't rely on monks as much would be favored.Mesmers with distortion,Eles with block stances,Ranger got nat stride,.... I can go on but you get the point. At best you'd be getting a pretty defensive ranged arena Yeen 16:32, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
- Whhhhhat? Misery 18:01, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
- "...and a good monk..."
- How often does that happen? Compared to running a bsurge ele or something mindless, playing war in RA (ESPECIALLY one with frenzy!) is eating bees. You'll lose half the matches you get in (and that's being generous) regardless of what you do, and it's totally out of your control (if the other team has a bsurge or a necro or a dom mes and you don't have a monk, just /resign because you basically don't exist for the short remainder of the match). That's not competitive.
- In a balanced RA, player skill would have more to do with player ability. But as things are now, that's really not the case. is for Raine, etc. 18:12, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
- and as long as that isn't the case Ra should not have a ladder imo Yeen 18:20, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

- I like playing war in RA, but I have to say, bsurge and faint make me QQ. I can still push through kills on lazy dom mesmers decently easily, but bsurge and faint ruin me. Empathy is less problematic than those 2 imo. -- Tha Reckoning File:User Tha Reckoning Sig2.jpg 23:13, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

"Smiter's Boon PVE" last tiem i checked pve didnt have gvg matches 127.0.0.1 16:32, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- "It was OP anyways. They should kill more PvE skills imo."
- "it was not overprowed in pve in fact it was underpowered the change to divine boon made it even worse and now it is nonsensiclly killed"
- "Underpowered? lol."
- "lol yes lol caus lol liek 80 heal on skills that dont recharge lol in time lol is underpowered lol when you lol need liek 200 lol to stand against lol foes lol wanding lol for 50 lol"
- "[...] They're condition/hex removal machines, and they do huge damage on top of that. I played Blessed Light smite for the better part of this morning; that would've just been so retarded if my smites also healed for 80 a pop."
- Wots context, m8?
- Last time I checked, skills that are imba are imba. 5-energy skills that remove a hex, do 85 hugeass-AoE holy damage, and heal for 85 are pretty ridiculous. It would be retarded in GvG, and it is no less retarded in PvE.
- Reading comprehension is hard, but if you work hard, I'm sure you can figure it out. is for Raine, etc. 16:43, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

sirlady dont have a clue of (specialy) hm pve 127.0.0.1 16:56, 12 March 2010 (UTC)- She's a m'am, not a sir. Also, lol@thisconversation. Karate Jesus 17:03, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- "the healing is not enough"
- It's FREE healing on SMITE skills. It's MORE than enough of that.
- "cus as overpowered as those socalled pve skills are so are the monsters in general damage and numbers"
- Also, mobs are pitifully retarded. So what if they have big numbers? Big numbers do not matter AT ALL when you can tank them (or better yet, have minions soak up all the damage) all just the same.
- "when you face a hex in pve you usually face it six times at least so for a hex removal it was useless most of the time"
- Ever hear of Hexway? It's this thing in PvP where the other team puts 14 hexes on each member of your team while a dervish runs around spamming Wounding Strike. The hexes are easily reapplied. The Deep Wound is easily reapplied. Do you know how you beat Hexway? BY SHUTTING DOWN HEXES AND DEEP WOUND. That includes removing them. No part of PvE is as hex-heavy as a real hexway, so your argument is invalid.
- "85 is not huge ass its mediocre specialy wehn you got liek one damage spell that doesnt suck"
- 85 holy damage with massive AoE is better than Rodgort's in a LOT of endgame content. Oh, and it removes a hex. Oh, and it heals for half a Patient. Oh, and it casts twice as fast. Oh, and it's 5 energy. Pretty weak skill, right? The reasons that most PvEers don't run anything other than Sabway or Discord is because they and their heroes are either (2) too bad to play a real build or (2) too lazy to play a real build (which doesn't matter, because they steamroll PvE, anyway). It's the same reason people running dungeons make a fortune.
- "no you apply your gvg standards to pve without ever playing pve fro anythin but farmin dungeons with a onk"
- You mean like HM vanquishes? Balanced dungeon groups? Full Deep clears? DoA? FoW? UW? Been there, done that. It's boring as fuck because it's so ridiculously easy.
- "thex context of teh thread was pve period any addin of how overpowered its in gvg doesnt matter at all"
- Because what? Because you said so? A skill that's OP in GvG isn't OP other places because you don't feel like it is? Maybe try a real argument.
- "oh and since most pvers are lame stupid lazy copycats they wouldve got the hook on this overblastpowered smiters boon and kick teh shit ouf ot pve guess what? they didnt and why? because it was extremly weak flexibilty"
- Protip: smiting isn't as effective as anything running minions because the AI blows so bad. Smiter's boon is ridiculous; the terrible AI is even more ridiculous. But that's a different topic, isn't it? That's why.
- And as far as "extremely weak flexibility", please tell me where hex/condition removal, healing, and damage are bad. By your logic, no one should ever run heals because they're very one-dimensional.
- "and doin tow things at a time doesnt earn you medals wehn your just mediocre cus of taht"
- Mediocre? How is Holy Hex-Removing Orison Rodgort's mediocre? It does several things, and it's extremely effective at at least one of them in any given scenario. Judge's Insight is mediocre? You said it yourself - mobs in PvE have ridiculous stats. 20% armor pen and holy damage is better there because of it. Holy Wrath is mediocre, maybe? It's not bad in PvP, let ALONE in an environment where mobs like to ball up and clusterfuck a person, essentially farming themselves for you.
- "yes i figured it out i may not be aware of gvg and stuff"
- Okay.
- "but you sirlady dont have a clue of (specialy) hm pve"
- You mean like HM vanquishes? Balanced dungeon groups? Full Deep clears? DoA? FoW? UW? Been there, done that. It's boring as fuck because it's so ridiculously easy.

Btw[edit]
I tried to MSN yesterday, but, I got like, spontaneous and/or impulsive plans created on me the second I actually like, almost got home. >_> Sorry. Also! Why don't you just MSN my phone? So easy 2 do Ryuu - talk 15:34, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- Could've sworn I replied to this. I guess it died someplace in the bowels of Chroms. :\
- tl;dr version: I assumed you were busy, since you weren't available.
- Related story: I hate when people leave voice messages on my phone. is for Raine, etc. 18:07, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- I didn't even know you had a phone. Vili 点 18:21, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- Once upon a time, I had a phone and I used it frequently. Over time, people grew comfortable with the "Michelle uses phone" concept. They'd call me frequently. They'd text me frequently. They were always in contact with me.
- I bloody hated it. A call every now and then? Fine. But I really don't need any sort of constantly-vibrating device in my pants. I love attention as much as everyone else, but there are standards! You don't want everyone's attention, you want certain people's attention. I was getting way too much of the former.
- Then a great thing happened a while back:
- I lost my phone. I have no idea how or when, but it was gone! The incessant "Hi what's up" (I am NOT fucking Twitter) stopped. Even better, the "Guess what!" stopped. I swear to whatever gods, nothing is as irritating as those two words. I don't care what's up. As if that wasn't bad enough, you are wasting my time by not just bloody telling me in the first motherfucking message. And then those messages that say "Hey, pls call me back". As if I needed to check my messages because I couldn't see the MISSED CALL notification. If I wanted to call you back, I'd call you back. Damn.
- Anyway.
- I've since replaced my phone. However, I barely use it (and I don't mean "barely" as in "a few times a day", I mean "almost never"); this is for a couple of reasons. Firstly, my number changes every couple of months. Secondly, the people who I regularly give my number know better than to bother me with trivial shit. It's one thing on MSN, where I can say "Hey, I'm available, I'm not really doing anything else right now, so let's talk!". It's something else when you're carrying it around with you every hour of the day, regardless of what else you're doing. I mean, if I'm not on MSN, I'm probably out somewhere, and that means I'm busy. Do cellphones care? Nope. They'll buzz just the same.
- Regardless, I lost my phone two days ago; I currently don't have a number. :>
- I'll get that dealt with eventually. But I'm definitely not in a hurry. is for Raine, etc. 19:24, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

- This is why I went the antisocial route around the time I started high school. Why do you give any sort of attention to the people who send you a text saying "plz2calbak"? -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 21:42, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- I didn't even know you had a phone. Vili 点 18:21, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
For the record, I'm not sure how you got "phone me and talk to me and leave message pwease <3" out of "msn my phone" see, I have my number linked to my msn account, and when I'm offline, any messages you send to me are forwarded to my phone, via text. It's like MSN, but I don't have to sit at my laptop, and I can type on my phone and do it anywhere.
Also, you fall into my "certain people", category, so I'm never really that busy!
Except maybe if I'm like, writing an exam or something... Ryuu - talk 21:57, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

You should get your number changed when you get a new phone, and then give out the number to just a few people you trust that won't advertise your new number to every person they see.I do that every time I get a new phone upgrade so that the few annoying people that somehow divined my real number would stop calling or texting me. --Lania Elderfire 14:33, 17 March 2010 (UTC)- I just ignore annoying people. It's remarkably effective and means that people who don't suck who have my number from some point in time can always find me. Misery 14:44, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
- You should teach me how to do that some day. I can do it somewhat effectively in person, but I just can't seem to do it on the internet, for the most part. And, even in person, it's really difficult to stay committed to. Ryuu - talk 15:01, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
- One thing I like to do sometimes is just stare at them straight in the eye while they blabber at me incessantly while maintaining a poker face... doing that seems to unnerve people quite a bit... especially people who are trying to impress me. They start getting flustered, talk faster and get annoyed. Some people get angry which can be funny. After a couple of minutes they stop talking and walk away. I think a lot of annoying people just like to hear themselves talk and to get a reaction from it. If they get no reaction whatsoever, they don't seem to get the pleasure out of it at all. One thing I notice is that staring into the left eye seems to work better than into the right eye. It's also a good way to telling if they are lying or not too. --Lania Elderfire 18:55, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Anyone? is for Raine, etc. 07:46, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, I've seen that before. Sometimes when I am looking on YouTube for <song> that is the only video available. Which is annoying since it tends to be crap quality: not only degraded by YouTube but also since it's playing through another program as well. Other than that I'd still prefer something more like Stepmania. But then I'm terrible at racing/driving games and will always hate them. :) Vili 点 12:33, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

- Hi!
- While I've got your attention, I feel inclined to bring up something that I've been considering for the past couple of days.
- Trolling not beneficial to the wiki. What would one have to do to get an anti-trolling policy put in place? is for Raine, etc. 00:06, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
- You would need to get the wiki to agree, and I wish you luck if you wish to try- I expect you'll need it. Not foreseeing anyone saying GWW:TROLL > discretion any day soon. – Emmett 00:10, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
- Draft said policy, perhaps, or find someone willing to.--neshot 00:12, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah - draft something and start a discussion. You could read Guild Wars Wiki talk:No trolling to see a previous attempt, but obviously that was a long time ago and things have likely changed. -- pling 15:41, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
