Contrary to what some people seem to believe, I'm not one of the riders of the wiki-apocalypse. I don't plan to pick up a banscythe, mount the pale horse that is Sysophood, and carve a gruesome swath of death through the wiki. As of this moment, I don't plan to herald plague, misery, or (more relevantly) ban through any green, flourishing wiki-pastures.

Now, don't get me wrong; I would bring the sky down gloriously in a fucking heartbeat if (and only if) I felt that it ever became necessary for the well-being of the wiki. I sincerely hope that any sysop would do so, if they felt that it became necessary for the well-being of the wiki. I haven't seen such a case of since I've been around, and I hope that things don't ever reach that point.

To use your own analogy, though, I will use lethal force in appropriate circumstances: where it is required. That, I feel, is the difference between my view and the views of other sysops: even in the cases where users are far, far across the trolling line, no one wants to drop the hammer.
