Raine[edit]

Hi Raine, I see that your signing with the name "Raine". GWW:SIGN requires you to register with the name Raine and make it redirect here. ~ KurdUser Kurd sig.png 09:46, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Kurd.
I just became aware of the fact that I'm guilty of impersonating another user with my signature. Because of this, I cannot comply with your request, as much as I'd like to. While policy dictates that I change my signature accordingly, I'm going to argue that that's, frankly, silly in this specific case.
While I do understand that the policy mandates that my signature not impersonate another user, I'd wager that this is done more for two reasons, the first being convenience (having two users with the same signature name could, for obvious reasons, make it difficult to identify the contributors), and the second being to prevent whatever malicious activities one could do with a signature matching another's user name (and I say this finding myself unable to think of any ill-willed schemes one could hatch with such a signature). Please correct me if you feel that the policy is in place for some other reason.
That being said, I'd like to assert that User:Raine hasn't been active for just shy of two years; I'm sure I'm not the only person who wasn't aware of the existence of that account. With this in mind, I find it difficult to believe that my signature makes leaves any question of who contributed the material to which it is attached, and I find the assertion (it hasn't been made yet, but I'm addressing it now) that I've any sort of malicious intent regarding User:Raine to be rather absurd, considering that I wasn't aware of said user's existence until I tried, minutes ago, to register an account in that name. I fail to see the harm that my signature causes, or realistically could cause.
However, in changing my signature, I'd be making it (slightly) more difficult to identify my work; everything I've posted over the past several months has been signed "Raine". Signing with "Raine Valen" raise questions of "Who is this user?", and, accordingly, make association between my previous and future contributions more difficult, albeit slightly.
Changing my signature would be of negligible benefit and tangible cost at this point. If I were to change my signature at this point, it would be only for the imaginary benefits of complying with the letter of the law, while incurring the aforementioned practical issues for an empty cause, the "rectification" of something in no violation of the spirit of that law. Creating real problems to fix nonexistent ones, if you will.
I will change my signature to comply with policy if requested again, with the above in mind, though I openly admit here that I believe such a change would be meaningless (at best), and that such further request would be foolish (at best).
Thank you for your time and consideration. User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 11:00, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Relevant sections of the policy:
It is common practice for a signature to resemble to some degree the user name it represents.
That says that it is common practice, not a requirement, that a signature resembles a user name to some degree. I would say "Raine" resembles "Raine Valen" to a considerable degree.
Do not attempt to impersonate another user. Avoid having similar signatures to reduce the possibility of mistaken attribution.
User:Raine has never signed a talk page ever and is in fact, unlikely to ever come back. While their user names are very similar, I don't think anyone is likely to mistake the two. It would be up to sysop discretion whether or not to enforce the rule in this case. If User:Raine were to return it is more likely that people would mistake her for User:Raine Valen than the other way around due to current levels of activity.
As for the requirement to register and redirect a user name for a moniker used in a signature, that is not a requirement at all and is only mentioned in GWW:SIGN in the case that your user name contains non-latin characters. It has been done as a courtesy in the past for people like User:Wings of Blood who signs with WoB. Another example would be User:Why, but you'll notice that doesn't redirect at the moment and it's not required to. As it would actually be impossible for Raine to do this in this case, it's probably best to leave it alone. While she could make a user and talk page at User:Raine, this would cause a lot more drama and stress if User:Raine ever did return than just ignoring the issue all together ^____^
My conclusion, let's keep the status quo, but I'm not in any position of authority on this wiki at all so let's ignore me and my wall of text. I enjoy wikilawyering. In future it would be nice if a policy did actually require a specific action when you tell someone they are required to take a specific action, happy wikiing! ^____^ Misery 12:15, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
I guess that since User:Raine has been very inactive for a while we could make an exception( just like we did with Wolf ;) ~ KurdUser Kurd sig.png 13:49, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
The policy doesn't require registering the name at all - it used to be required, but was removed with the accepted proposal. --User Pling sig.png Brains12 \ talk 23:13, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

that would be cool if I had gotten an EC, but it was one of those rare blips where one edit completely overwrites another, even if you hit save, and so one person's contribution is totally gone. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 04:32, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

The following skills are strong in pve...
  1. Ancestor's Visage / Sympathetic Visage / Soothing Images (farming usually)
  2. Arcane Conundrum
  3. Calculated Risk (use in conjunction with Reckless Haste-type builds)
  4. Clumsiness / Wandering Eye
  5. Conjure Nightmare / Conjure Phantasm / Images of Remorse
  6. Crippling Anguish (Moddok Crevice)
  7. Frustration
  8. Illusionary Weaponry ups
  9. Ineptitude
  10. Shared Burden
  11. Signet of Illusions
Personally, I find Domination more fun to play (spam-it-and-forget-it not only bores me, but makes me a worse player), but Illusion has plenty of things to offer. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 18:03, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Dear Raine,[edit]

You're smart. Really, you're good: You make good points, you don't feed people with bullshit, you don't make people "lolz zomg n00bzor guaslisaiagp" and smack their heads on the keyboard, press four ~ and SAVE PAGE. Yes, you have good ideas in your mass balance, but I can't agree with one thing, that simply keeps repeating itself, and it frustrates me. So I will say it.
"Let's change the game." Wrong. It is simply wrong. Gaming companies do not create Democracy. They do not create an environment where every second moron with the ability to pronounce more than 6 letter words can change the entire government and maybe even the world (French Revoloution), it does not allow the word Revoloution (unless you boycott the company, and make demands, but I don't think it will ever happen... boycotting A.Net for not balancing?), it is a Nation of it's own. It's something like a Hegemon. A person cannot change it, unless he cries and weeps and begs and sends people exploding. Even after that, he has a small, tinier chance than an Urchin's body to be accepted and then a tinier chance to get executed into action. In such a nation, you have to adress the government directly, hoping that they understand you and don't adress the only place where their money goes to. You see, maybe A.Net sees the suggestion pages, yes Aegis (PvP) was very remotely close to a suggestion that I made. Maybe they do see our suggestions, maybe they even know that Hexway is so frickingly overpowered and that Palm Strike isn't balanced and that they knock balanced skills into oblivion, to the good and to the bad (depends on how you see it), but maybe they know something that we don't: maybe some top secret military skill that kills target foe with 0 energy, or maybe some other crap. How can we know? Inflintrate their ranks, send spies into their midst, and then what? What can we use with that information? What diffrence can we make if not to make points or send suggestions, scream our lungs out at Izzy and Regina and whoever not to open their already open eyes. What else can we do? Well, most of us did send suggestions to A.Net and screamed their lungs out at the Live Chat team. But meh. We don't get much info from their babbled answers and Developer Updates.
You may think I'm talking shit. Maybe I am talking shit, but I am also making a point: No matter what we do, how much we rant and flame, how much we beg and weep our eyes out, no matter how many motivational lines like Yes, We Can when we can't, we simply cannot change the game directly. It simply cannot happen. A.Net is not an organised nation and we are not it's citizens that we can rebel against, and elect Shard for president and Auron as prime minister, and lead our Guild.Net nation to game domination. We can only make little ripples across the Balance Pool, hoping that it reaches it's rock. Titani Ertan contributions 17:18, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

alternative 2 Vili 点 User talk:Vili 19:05, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
That is not an alternative. I found something disturbing. While I was at my brothers house, I saw him playing WoW. He has a level 80 dude that is in an active raid group. I watched the raid. It was tactics. All about tactics. It's not what theyre worth, how skilled they are. It doesn't matter. It all matters that they position themselves in the right place, have the right gear, and spam the right skills. Huh, reminds me of current meta, but without the tactics part. I left WoW because the aspect of creating your own team (heroes) seemed fascinating to me. It was a place where I could really play my style, and not follow a guideline. That was some time ago. Maybe BW2 will be WoW with a diffrent name, but BW1 is still remote from becoming another WoW, I hope. Titani Ertan contributions 19:09, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
If you meant "infiltrate Anet" as the other alternative, I thought you were kidding. But if you're srs, I'm sure I can pick up a ski mask someplace. But I meant... viable... alternatives. =x
For the record, I haven't flamed any devs yet, and if I've flamed a user, they really, really deserved it (except Wyn). User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 19:22, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Hexes/Shadow Steps/Dervishes promote fun and interesting gameplay. User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 19:28, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
No. In high-end GuildWarsBuild Wars, you run the same builds if you want to do it simply and quickly. I am a proud holder of the accomplishment of completing FoW without a gimmicky bullshit team. It's possible. It's fun. (To Vili, it was.)
(To Raine:) I know you didn't flame anyone (not that I know of, at least). I said that. I wrote to you here because you had a brain and I saw that you actually think for yourself.
No, I did not mean infiltrating Anet. That was the Plan B, if Plan A, which is posting suggestions and screaming our lungs out at the Live Team (or scream our text out, whichever). But keep your ski mask in hand reach, just in case. I will bring a blowtorch, and a monkey. We do need a distraction. Ohh! A monkey with a balanced skill!!! (2 edits in 1 post, I'm getting popular :P). I sense sarcasm in there Raine. Did you get brainwashed lately? Titani Ertan contributions 19:33, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
No, I'm dead serious. Weapon Spells and the like make Guild Wars fun to play by promoting variation. User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 19:40, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
See? This is my point. What you did now was either flaming A.net's balance skills or ranting about it. It didn't serve it's purpose, to fix the problem. The only thing it did was to adress people who did not know about the problems, to the common problems. Btw, what about Norgu? Why do you leave him alone, in the dark? He feels lonley without Gwen. Tell me when your ready with your ski mask, as I got my monkey on hold. Titani Ertan contributions 19:47, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
"Hexes/Shadow Steps/Dervishes promote fun and interesting gameplay." was in direct response to "You think the current GW is about skill instead of skills? You think the current GW allows any room for "playing your own style" in high-end play?"; that line about Gwen was because you asked if I was being sarcastic. Sorry if that was unclear. Also, Gwen > Norgu. She has that "lookit me I'm a mesmer!" dress that clashes with every other color in HA - now that's annoying. User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 19:52, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Fine. Iil say it straightly. You can play your own style in high-end Build Wars. I did it more than once. It was slow, it wasen't easy, but it was fun. It felt like I'm playing the game, a feeling I didn't have since I turned my insanely odd R/Me build into a Barrage build that gave me a headache. Gwen has the looks, Norgu has the style. It can be fun to see a "we killed Abaddon wippie" in HA or GvG, woulden't it? I always thought of comedy instead of victory. Huh, maybe thats the reason I lose. Who knew? Anyway, I was being sarcastic about your sarcasem. I know sarcasem 99% of the times I see it, as I am a proud sarcasticdude. I know what you meant, and I replied with the sarcasem of "I see a hint of sarcasem" and "did you get brainwashed lately?". If you did get brainwashed, we should know, as you can be a double agent.
