Unsurprisingly I don't agree that "even before Science, there was religion", but this is a wiki about Guild Wars, not religion. To get back to the issue at hand, altering the capitalisation of the word "god" can significantly alter its meaning, especially to someone who does not believe that one exists. While I am not completely opposed to altering another person's comments (provided it is only to improve readability) I do think that altering someone's desired meaning is a terrible act. BeXoR: there is no profanity censoring on this wiki, you're misinterpreting the policy. If it's not insulting or directly offensive to anyone, it's fine to stay. There will always be people overly sensitive to an issue or another. Someone may get offended by the "don't be a dick" on my userpage, someone else may get offended by the content of Kurd's userpage, someone else may get offended by the stuff on Auron's quotes page, someone else may get offended by a "Tea sucks, coffee rocks" statement. The criteria isn't "does anyone find this offensive?", because there'll always be someone who gets offended by something (you even have to think twice before opening the door for someone these days, as she may be a feminist who finds that action offensive and belittling). In my personal opinion, even if probably very immature, the words on Raptor's page now are not insulting to anyone in particular, and should stay. I quoted a section of the policy above, and as I said swearing is something that is generally found offensive, especially considering the audience of this game. Consider that swearing is censored on television whether it is directed at a person or not. This is not a minor disagreement between likes or dislikes. Swearing is socially interpreted as being vulgar, rude and offensive. And there is questionable intent behind the notice on this page. Using profanities may be vulgar and rude, but that doesn't mean its offensive. Not in my social circles, at least; it's not offensive to my family, friends, coworkers, guild mates, or even uni professors. It's not even offensive to you personally, judging from IRC. It's not offensive to any 14 year old I've ever met (that's the minimum age to play GW, if I recall correctly), even though it may drive their overprotective mothers in tilt, (I guess they think their kids don't know those words, that they never hear anyone online, in school, outside or elsewhere use such naughty words, and want to keep their minds and ears clean from such rubbish...). What I'm saying is that while these words may be vulgar or rude and immature, they are not offensive or insulting per se, even though many will take offense at them. If you are making the claim that bad words are always insulting and unacceptable, then it goes for the entire wiki and not just userpages (being allowed to swear in all namespaces except the User ones doesn't really make sense). So, maybe start a discussion about it somewhere, so the community can speak their thoughts?

The manner in which this material is is presented and the context behind it makes the content is offensive. Your social circle may not find swearing offensive, but culturally it is. And I imagine that if that comment was posted anywhere else, it would either be removed or the commenter would be asked not to use such language.

I re-removed the offensive content. The history Skuld was talking about was a link on his page that was not offensive (the Admin Ranks) and was inappropriately removed from his userpage. The blinking words in the black banner are clearly offensive and do not belong here. If you disagree discuss it on the Guild_Wars_Wiki_talk:No_profanity page or User_talk:Gaile_Gray/Offensive_content_discussion, but do not revert it back to a version with the offensive words. If the policy discussion results in the community deciding that Profanity is allowed then by all means use profanity. Until then it falls under the restricted content as defined by the GWW:USER Policy:

• Do not include any material generally deemed offensive and insulting.
• Material patently offensive to others, including ArenaNet's competitors.
• Material in breach of the wiki's policies or the game's terms and conditions.

If you'd read GWW:USER it is very clear that those words are not allowed. The fact that you are defending the action of placing them on your user page shows that you either have no respect for the community, the wiki and other users or that you are trying to harm the community in some way. If you would respect us and wouldn't want to harm us you would have removed those words from your user page because so many users are against them. I guess you understand that they don't do any good to anyone. Why not remove them if someone thinks they are harmful and they don't add anything good to your user page? Well, this is one of the very rare cases where I give shit about the 'consensus' on this matter. Those words are clearly offensive to any sensible human being that I know irl. I don't know what kind of environments the rest of the wiki users are from, but it seems that either they have grown in a very different world than I, or they have other weird reasons to think otherwise. I bet you know that those words offend many users and I bet you know that your admin ranking does also offend some people. I don't give a fuck about the thoughts of those defending you, and I do remember the past when your current actions clearly show that your continuing on the same lines.

I hope you come to your senses and do the best thing when considering this wiki and the community and remove those words.
