Void in my life (overreaction warning)[edit]
After the last update (skills) I had to vomit when I thought about guild wars and the 'typical' arenanet update. Now I can't (I just don't want to) play guild wars and I have absolutely nothing to fill the void that leaving guild wars caused. Boro 05:38, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- Play another game? Honestly though the update wasn't half bad, at least for the PvP side of things.~>Sins WDB 07:14, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- True. not counting the hexway side of things. (This morning I saw Tomb is SRS business guild in HA. They replaced their warriors with fire eles, and won halls) Boro 11:50, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Even though sins is ugly, I agree with him fully here.
Quit friggin whining. Void in my life? Coughfuckingbullshit. How much nostalgia is clouding those foolish eyes of yours? Even in its prime, guildwars was far from a fantastic game. And you can find plenty of other better competitive mmos out there. Furthermore, guildwars is OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD(saysthewc3/jk2/chessplayerBUTUGETMYPOINT)Oni 16:59, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- uh, in its prime, guild wars was an amazingly unique and fun game, well worthy of the adjective "fantastic." I dunno when the hell you were playing, but gw didn't start sucking until some time after factions :/ -Auron 17:06, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- Oni is worse in logics than arenanet in balance Boro 17:28, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
You suck boro, begone.
Auron, I'm comparing guildwars in its prime to the current mmos NOW. If you take one of the newer mmos, they have better physics, graphics, balance, skills, story, gameplay, action, combat, concept ect.
Bottom line: don't be such a dramawhore. You just want to fucking whine like the other mainstream whiners. Guildwars is beyond repair. Or hell, even if it IS possible to fix atm (despite the ranks, pve money being worthless, ect), arenanet would NEVER work that hard to fix it. Stop crying, it wont change anything. - Apples and oranges, babydoll. You can't compare a game four years old to a modern game. -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 06:40, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- Also GW can't be compared with any MMO-s simply because GW is not an MMO. It's a CORPG Boro 12:42, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
which is my point, hun armond. He cant whine about it being a VOIIIID IN MY LIIIIIIIIFE, MY LIFE IS LOOOSING ITS WILL!!!!! When even at its prime, it cant even match up towards ANY good game which is released now, he can just pick up a copy of that and then permastfu. But he wont, because he is just about as ugly as sins.
Also, boro. COmpare it to a orpg then, tard >.<' It's the same effing deal. Diablo3hai2u?

- Offensive language is one thing, and ANet's lawyers could probably parse even the thickest contradictions through the eye of a needle. Shard's ban however is obviously something else entirely which would incriminate a whole group of people almost to the tune of CCP's 'cheating Devs Scandal' and therefore we'll never learn the truth so we might as well just give up on proving it. After all, The real "sting" in all of it to the people responsible for it, is that Nothing of real value was lost by our intrepid hero. Half a decade of their lives wasted on something that fizzled while they struggle for the next half a decade trying NOT to repeat the same mistakes they seem fated to make anyway... Open letter to Shard[edit]
I never got to know you very well. I've played with you less times than fingers on one hand. Even so, you intrigued me - another non-shitter on the wiki, another person who knew that obs mode was the way to prove that a skill is powerful, not bullshit theorycrafting. That knowledge combined with your humor originally drew me to you - I was more friendly to you than I am to most people. I could overlook a bit of trolling here or there (IMO, the right kind of trolling keeps standards from dropping too low), but I never really rested easy with you. When it came time to stop talking, stop trolling, and just sit and listen, you never would. When people challenged your arguments and logic, you would often respond with personal attacks instead of even a summary of why they were wrong. Because of all that, you were blocked from editing the wiki many times. I even stuck up for you when I thought you were wrongly blocked, even though that was mostly your poor attitude and bad reputation working against you.
But I really can't do it anymore. I've gotta say, in my three years of playing GW, I've been banned less than 5 times, none of them for any real length of time. Yet I've done some pretty serious shit and pissed some people off (I dunno if I showed you the pictures, but Gaile was trying to give a dev chat thing in Kamadan and I kept spamming "swastikas" to piss people off - I didn't get banned for it). To get banned many times, to rack up such a bad record that you even stand a chance to be permabanned... that means you're really failing to grasp something. I mean, you keep going on about your block like they blocked you for one silly thing - that's ridiculous! They've blocked you for everything you've ever done and all the shit you will undoubtedly continue to do. I don't think you're nearly as egocentric as Lena, so you might have a chance to realize your mistake... but really, you're just another player. If you're going to be a huge pain the ass, you're going to be removed. That's just how it works. Guild Wars is their universe, not a democratic state where you can stand up and wave flags and get them to unban you. It's time you realized that.
It's sad that you got banned - partly because, towards the end, they probably were monitoring your chat logs, but also because you failed to see it coming. There's only so much abuse people can take before they snap. In The Art Of Trolling, chapter 6, you learn to look out for those signs so you stop before they blow up on you - but that was the one chapter you seem to have missed.
Either way, just drop it. You were stupid. You trolled poorly. You got banned. You kept doing it. You got perma-banned. Cause and effect, y'know? It isn't Gaile's fault you got banned, and it isn't Gaile's fault you're still banned. Some fat 30-something-year-old /b/tard sitting in his mom's basement and looking through hundreds of game tickets per day is probably responsible for it - we'll never know. But it isn't an issue that needs to see the light of day on this wiki. You know what support's email is. I daresay they know what yours is. If you want to plead your case to Gaile, do so privately - but everyone's had quite enough of your shit here on the wiki. I don't want you to leave the wiki forever, but I do want you to stop pestering ANet about you being banned because you were stupid.
I have no say in what the arbcomm (if they are called) will do or mandate. I hope it isn't a harsher punishment than is deserved. At this point, however, there isn't anything I can do to stop it - I can only ask you, from one troll to another, to stop digging your grave deeper. -Auron 11:45, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for a well written letter. I'm doing this on the wiki for one real reason: Anet has never responded to my emails (they haven't even long before I was banned) and support stopped replying to my single ticket a few weeks ago, so those are channels not available to me.
- I don't really want my account back, I have 2 more (though I still never play). I don't want to endanger the wiki - it's a great tool, I don't want to piss off Emily, so I'm keeping all of my discussions in appropriate places.
- If you haven't figured this out, I'm the kind of person who needs to know everything. I need to know why Gaile wanted me banned (I can only guess) and I need to know why support lied about both the reasons for the ban and for denying that it was coming. I kept it to private channels as long as I could, but it's clear by how serious they are about customer support that they would rather have it out in public.
- So on a final key, are you getting Diablo 3 or StarCraft 2? ~Shard 18:20, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Huh, do you really think SC2 is going to be as competitive as the original? The way I hear it, Bli$$ard's gonna be pullin' a fast one (some predictions put cumulative "cost" of ownership for every chapter of the game over $150!) with this crap about releasing each "campaign" one at a time. And I'm afraid I have even less confidence in them than I have in Anet or VALVe so I don't see any way you could avoid more of this "Power-Creep Fluctuation" cycle we've seen in GW unless SC2 launched with ALL of the units it was meant to have at the end of all 3 or 4 campaigns coming out and no new units or abilities were added along that expansion period. Is this just rumors or real Red flags? --ilr 02:03, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- "SC2 will sell each campaign separately"
- Thanks for ruining any chances I had at sleeping soundly tonight :( I can understand paying big money for a game if it's really the shit (lol, GW probably cost more over time), but that's... asking for too much Vespene gas. Vili 点 02:06, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- Blizzard is a multi billion dollar company, i'm sure they're doing fine. As for sc2, i'll pay whatever it costs to play it. SC2 will sell millions of copies because it has a fan base that actually likes the game. 11 years running and people still playing it competitively? - And now I play to role of the doomsayer. If Blizzard's balance work with World of Warcraft is a trend that will continue, then it's all gloom and doom for Blizzard and future Star Craft 2 expansions. — Jon Lupen 04:05, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- @ilr: Brood War kept the original game balanced, @lupen: the StarCraft team isn't the World of Warcraft team. They're all separate teams! :) DarkNecrid 04:30, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

- The battle reports just show the SC2 isn't a rip off...its a major upgrade. The fact that Blizzard and the SC2 crew have shown us the game every step of the way just confirms that they a.) really care about their product, b.) care about their fan base enough to involve them in the game's creation and c.) have something to show verifying a quality item.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 15:37, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- Lies! They haven't shown us everything every step of the way! Ok, now I'm splitting hairs... Little known fact, Star Craft started as a Warhammer 40,000 RTS before Games Workshop pulled the rights, and so Blizzard covered their tracks so they would have to scrap as little as possible. You could argue that Star Craft is ripping off WH40k, but Star Craft 2 mush less so. Kudos to Blizzard with how they are handling Star Craft 2, even if their business model for it looks like a money-grab attempt and that it's taking so long, but hey, a polished game takes time. — Jon Lupen 15:45, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

- Blizzard is a multi billion dollar company, i'm sure they're doing fine. As for sc2, i'll pay whatever it costs to play it. SC2 will sell millions of copies because it has a fan base that actually likes the game. 11 years running and people still playing it competitively? Talk about a good franchise. --adrin 02:09, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
To Jon; MMOs and RTSs aren't the same. Balance for one is a totally different endeavor than balancing the other. I would have thought that obvious, but evidently you overlooked it.
On a mostly unrelated note, I don't think anyone has balanced an MMO even remotely well. WoW isn't half bad when you look at the "competition." -Auron 16:19, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

- Someone mentioned Broodwars. IIRC, that was so far back that User:Mike O'Brien was still there with Pat & Jeff ...when things started coming apart at the seams was around WarcraftIII's development and the Announcement of WoW (Doesn't anyone remember those fucking no-skill Hunter-Rushers being near the top of the LADDERS when it debut'd??). Yeah that was about the time I got disillusioned with Bli$$ard too. I mean it's FINE for a smaller studio to just come out and say "Hey guys, we got shit planned and we really need some extra cash" and most of their customers should be more than happy to help support it. But they can't claim that, ...not when they've almost single-handedly floated all of Vivendi during a Market Crash.... --ilr 19:44, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- Jim Cameron = James Cameron who wrote and directed The Terminator. The film features the hero, Kyle Reese going back in time from 2029 to 1984 to save Sarah Connor. Supposedly, that part of the story was "similar" to two stories by sci-fi writer Harland Ellison "Soldier" and "Demon with the Glass Hand" that appeared on "The Outer Limits", who wrote the stories for the show "The Twilight Zone". Ellison got pissed at Cameron and tried to sue, forcing Cameron to put a snip in the ending credits of the movie about Elison's works.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 21:24, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Good Stuff. Also thanks for making it easily accessible. I'm wondering how long it takes them to ban links to non-specified forums lol. Awesome nontheless.~>Sins WDB 06:33, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Linking to offensive material in game can result in bans, that's perfectly reasonable. - Article 1 of the Guild Wars Rules of Conduct:
- While playing Guild Wars, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the game. To this end, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players.
- I'm not defending anything Wasabi has done, as I don't believe for a second that he's any more innocent than you, but spamming anywhere in the game is technically "causing unwanted attention" (and borderline harassment) that impedes the enjoyment of another player. --★KOKUOU★ 12:29, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Evidence for Morons[edit]
If it was worth the time and effort, you could make an astounding case against ANet (legally, that is). A shame it's not, and the hole they're digging just keeps getting bigger. King Neoterikos 03:12, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- The most I could sue for would be less than the costs of the trial, so it's not worth it. ~Shard 03:17, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- If it were me, I'd send a letter saying I was going to sue and wash them flush several thousand USD down the toilet just preparing a response, then when they were ready tell them I was just trolling. That's just me though. --Jette 03:53, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- I think that a good lawyer would be able to dispute it's authenticity and source, so I doubt it would hold up in court. But for an internet community, it's solid enough. 145.94.74.23 06:32, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- The source is ArenaNet and the authenticity is already as solid as possible. Thanks for trying though. ~Shard 06:57, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- What I meant was that the witness report by itself would have little value in a court of law and would likely encourage further investigation (like inspection of the ZoS guild chat logs and/or Gaile's whispers). I wasn't talking about you photoshopping or fabricating eveidence, I just meant that it likely wouldn't be enough. The e-mails however, are a different story since they provide more (firsthand) information. Please stop assuming that I'm questioning your integrity, because I'm trying to assume good faith. I'm just questioning the amount of evidence. So far, it consists of 1 screenshot and a couple of rewritten e-mails. A lawyer would have no problems discrediting that, even excluding the possibilities of forgery. 145.94.74.23 10:03, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- The costs would outweigh the benefits, really. That's probably the only reason why this has yet to happen. --Riddle 17:32, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

"I lost my account, and as such had to spend money on (1) another game, (2) car mileage to *get* said other game, and (3) added electrical to run my CD drive to install said other game. This amounted to no more than $100 US; I demand $10,000 US for the grievances." Unless it's a really epic drive (or a really epic CD drive O.o), I think it's strong profit. - A good law book probably costs as much as a good lawyer. --Riddle 17:59, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- Shard could pick up a law book and act as his own attorney (though it's typically frowned upon, it's perfectly legal). Then the benefits outweigh the costs! :D Raine - talk 17:44, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- The costs would outweigh the benefits, really. That's probably the only reason why this has yet to happen. --Riddle 17:32, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm trying to run TexMod, but McAfee (bloody worthless) is telling me that it's preventing a trojan every time I try to run a package. While it's possible that every TexMod download link has a trojan attached to it, I strongly doubt that that's the case. Do you know of anyone who's had similar problems, or is this unique to me? Raine - talk 23:55, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- McAfee usually detects texmod as a trojan (it changes how another program works). Just give it the ok or make an exception, for it. ~Shard 00:34, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey.[edit]
I'm running late for trig, so I'll make this fast.
Wake up. Here's some coffee. Have a cookie, they're those fruit-filling types. Pack your bags, it's time for you to go.
Obviously you're up on arbcom... again. You shouldn't be there. You know as well as I do that whatever arbcom decides will be either a permaban or equivalent.
You also know, or should, that you're liable to face six months just to try to get you to realize that the wiki is actually serious business - before arbcom makes their decision.
If you had kept all your anti-ANet shit in your userspace, none of this would have happened. Auron does it that way for a reason.
Basically, you have three options open for your future here. Either you get smacked with the six month, you get perma'd by arbcom, or you leave willingly. The odds, at this point, that arbcom won't ban you and thus you'll have time to reform to the "standards of the community" or whatever are pretty much nil. Guess which option I'm encouraging you to take.
You have a forum - use it for the purposes you use this wiki. The big advantage is, over there, no one cares what you do. Here, people bitch and complain because you're not social enough and eventually get you banned. Make that forum your new userspace, bitch about how ANet is bad and point out the good points of both ANet and other companies - you'll have at least one reader there, as I could use the information later in life.
Re-read Auron's letter above; he's pretty much right. He has two points - "you were stupid and it's your own fault" and "I don't want you gone, I want you not stupid".
You've probably not broken any policies here - well, no more than Auron, Raine, Vili, or I - but, unfortunately for you, sysop discretion means you don't have to in order to be banned. And, well, if it's gotten to the point where Auron thinks you're doing something wrong and wants you to change the way you bash on ANet, you're probably doing something wrong.
I hate to say it, but realistically, this is probably your last warning. I just wanted it to come from someone you knew.
-- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 14:07, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Here's a better idea Shard, use your remaining time to start/or/advertise a Community Blog like my Friends from City of Heroes did when their official forums got taken over by a Nazi-Moderation Cabal (ironically, we had our own "Gaile" named "Niviene"). It may not get as much traffic, but you'll be doing the rest of us a huge favor by giving us a fall-back position whenever we get inevitably b& for non-policy "Offenses". --ilr 21:30, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Firstly, I have to thank you for the advice, but honestly, I knew I was going to be on arbitration two months ago, not because of my posts. The Bcrats know I make contributions to the wiki; I only cause trouble on Gaile's page, which like Auron has said to me many times, makes me look bad. I would be very, very surprised (and disappointed) if they decided a permaban was needed. I'm not some retard troll like Igor who causes trouble to cause trouble. ~Shard 22:25, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Speaking of which, why the heck hasn't Igor gotten the boot yet anyway? At least you and I can argue some legitimate contributions (more in your case than mine) to defend our trolling (or, in my case, I'll be honest and just say blatant disregard for policis and concensus), but he's only got 8 main namespace contributions and at least 2 of them were vandalism. --Jette 23:10, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

ArbComm[edit]
I'm quite sure you've noticed by now that the ArbComm about you has been accepted and is currently being considered. I'd like to ask that you put forward a statement there, addressed to the arbitration committee (that is, direct your comments to the three bureaucrats, not at Gaile and not at supporters or detractors on the talk page). What you believe is the center of the conflict, what steps if any you've taken to try to resolve them, what you think of the situation, desired outcomes, that sort of thing. Whatever you feel needs to be said for people to understand your side of the story, so to speak. Of course, if you prefer to say nothing, that's your call. I'll be asking the same of Gaile. - Tanetris 21:19, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) and No, this isn't some racist Jim-Crow Stereotype. Since most people FAIL at Satire, I'll explain: The only point of this offhanded comment was to make light of how Y-SO-SRS everyone is taking this silly little issue --> in a Chappelle/Boondocks manner. Infact the entire creation of this Arbitration process *cough*witchhunt*cough* has the Dubious appearance now of being for the sole purpose of perma banning Shard just because he has too many "followers". Which in and of itself actually gives him MORE Notoriety than having so many "followers" ever did. Seriously... if he was just another face in the crowd, saying these exact same things, nothing on this drama-scale would have taken place. It cheapens NcSoft' Support's image to even be so passionately involved in this and it just cements the opinions that <name Redacted> and <name Redacted> have something to hide. And it will just make this wiki look like fanboy-central when he's Banned for this. Infact I got half a mind to save/cache EVERYTHING here and then document the entire ridiculous event on Encyclopedia Dramatica b/c their GW page is really Starved for LuLz. --ilr 00:09, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
- Actually the point of the arbcomm is to NOT permaban Shard. He can pretty much be perma'ed by any willing sysop for disruption at this point, but he hasn't. The arbcomm will more than likely just put ductape on his mouth in regards of where and what to post (with an "or else" clause), but i seriously doubt it will end on a ban.--Fighterdoken 00:19, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

More Appropriately Posted Here Than My Page[edit]
I am apologizing formally for screwing up. The way I went about explaining my point on the arbcomm talk indeed was not how I should have done so. It totally makes you look like a bad guy, because I stayed on the course of how to get around securities due to the fact that wiki's have penetrable security. I painted a negative image by only pointing out that you could get around a ban. I assumed that people would realize you have no history of doing so, and they in fact did. However, they did not understand that this simply supported my original point that it's a waste of time to disallow people from posting on behalf of you because you wouldn't do that. Once, again... Sorry.~>Sins WDB 05:54, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
