A Glob of Ectoplasm is a rare crafting material that drops infrequently from creatures in The Underworld and elsewhere; they are required for crafting Obsidian armor and Chaos Gloves. For a variety of reasons, ectos have become the primary alternative currency for player trades and are almost always used for transactions exceeding 100 
.

- Purchased from rare material traders.
- Expert salvaged from armor crafted with Globs of Ectoplasm.
- No salvage items, trophies, or weapons currently appear to contain Globs of Ectoplasm.
- Random drop from specific creatures in:
- The Underworld
- Ruins of the Tomb of the Primeval Kings
- Fissure of Woe (Banshee)

- Ecto and e are abbreviated terms for Globs of Ectoplasm.
- Ectos are the most commonly used alternative for trading high-demand/low-supply miniatures and weapons, although Zaishen Keys and Armbraces of Truth are sometimes used.
- Ectos are used to bypass the 100
single trade limit, e.g. something worth 200 would be traded as "100 +X e" (with X ectos being valued at 100 ).
- Ectos remain popular as substitute currency even though other items sometimes trade at higher prices.

- As with any material, the rare material trader sometimes runs out of Ectos.
