Why change it? I thought it was fine how it was at the time. — Eloc 22:21, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I tried to make it like the other maintenance template but it looked stupid without an icon, so this is a temporary layout until I made an icon (based on the other icons). poke | talk 22:27, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi again, can you answer to my preavious question, how do you become a moderator of guild wiki? Or whatever you are called, you seem to have right to bann ppl so... Can you answer to your own talk page ok =). 209.67.211.42 19:14, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

First of all this is the Guild Wars Wiki, not GuildWiki. And if you would look around, you would find out how to become a sysop here. But you won't become one, to answer your next question.. And just stop the vandalism. poke | talk 19:18, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, what about all these normal users which dont vandalism? I know i cant become one, im such an idiot. Really, i didnt found how to :G. 69.10.36.4 19:20, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok, first of all you can register by clicking this link. Then you should become a positive contributor and maybe you can run a Request for adminship some time later.. But this would require others to trust you which is only possible as long as you don't vandalise anything ;) poke | talk 19:23, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

wow, why did they all get semi-protected in the first place, a lot aren't even used much. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 00:58, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Gordon did a mass-protection of (all) templates because of some vandals who were editing the templates.. But he had probably overdone the protection :P See also Guild Wars Wiki:Admin noticeboard/Archive 9#Template protection poke | talk 01:02, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey poke

Can you make a monobook.js code similar to the GWW tools (the box w/ delete, move, stub, etc.) for GuildWiki? I'd love to have that over there. Thanks!--MP47 (Talk) (Contr.) 02:13, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

No sorry, I don't think I'll ever release something like this for GuildWiki as I'm simply not active there and it's a bit too much work to keep it up2date for 3 wikis then.. poke | talk 02:16, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Mmk, thanks anyways--MP47 (Talk) (Contr.) 02:17, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Where's the 2nd wiki besides this one? — Eloc 03:05, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Huh? There's three: GWW, GuildWiki, and GW2W--MP47 (Talk) (Contr.) 11:52, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I meant what other wiki does Poke do the monobook.js besides this one. I suppose he has it over at GW2W also then? — Eloc 22:10, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm currently working on a gw2w compatible GWWT. poke | talk 20:33, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

monobook.js

Well, you seem to know the most about this, so I'm going to ask you. I want to do something like GWWTs, but with my own personal templates. How would I exactly do that? — Eloc 02:56, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, but if you are not able to understand the gwwt code, you won't be able to make something like this on your own. And I don't have the time, to teach you JavaScript. poke | talk 15:06, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Eloc, GWWT is a bit complex to start off with, but if you're interested in something simpler, like putting personal links at the top or the side, look at mine, User:Ab.er.rant/monobook.js, and scroll down to "ab.er.rant's stuffs" and play around with that portion. -- ab.er.rant sig 04:08, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Aberrant, I just kind of mess around with the coding you make and that will be enough for me to learn the basics of monobook. Poke, where can I find the monobook for GWWTs? — Eloc 00:29, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Do I need to add that to my monobook or does it matter what name I use for it? — Eloc 01:07, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
The last two questions show me that you really have _no_ idea about how javascript works. You should start with something else; gwwt is too complex... poke | talk 06:20, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

[image] ... Is this awesome? Y/N? --Cursed Angel talk 06:29, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

What does it hurt if I just mess around with my own monobook or w/e? Can it just be deleted if I mess mine up to much? — Eloc 01:20, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Basically Eloc think of it like wikicode, when a new user comes to me and says "how can I make a userpage like yours" my first thought is, if you can't make one just by looking at the code, it is not going to be easy to explain it. But yet anything you do to your own monobook can be deleted and only effects you. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 01:39, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Well I can easily figure it out by looking at it, but there are preliminary questions before I start that. One being, does it specifically have to be named monobook.js or can I name it anything I want? — Eloc 02:15, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Monobook.js would have to point at it if it was named something else. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 12:04, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Haha! :D Anyway; while on the subject of the sandbox, the reason not all text gets indented (if that's what you're having issues is), would be: "text-indent: Indents the first line of text in an element" Also, those boxes look HORRIBLE in IE6 due to negative margin. :S — Galil Talk page 18:29, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I normally use http://www.newmediadesigner.de/ - and yes, the different indentation was intended.. I'll look into that IE issue (I didn't have the time yesterday), normally negative margin works... poke | talk 12:03, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Sadface :(

Which one or both didn't you like? D: User BeXoR wiki logo mini.gif / Shield-Logo-Mini.gif I don't like the old one anymore, but I am proud of the new one. The resized thingy we have now looks warped. :/ - BeX iawtc 04:00, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

It's just that I think that your icons do have too sharp edges.. So they don't look that good to me :/
You should also know that you should not use a .gif to create a good .ico from it as a gif is much more compressed.. poke | talk 08:13, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
For scaleable .ico I would agree, but favicons are tiny. I could have easily added semi-trans pixels on the edge though if that would have changed your mind lol. I did a lot of pixel art in the past so I like it. :) Sprites and stuff ftw! - BeX iawtc 08:25, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Actually, it's no problem creating a .ico from a .gif, if the icon is small enough. Gifs can have up to 256 different colors (indexed) and I'd be very surprised if Bex's icons reach that many colors. — Galil Talk page 14:42, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
I would say just wait for the icon Emily has asked for and if that is not good, we can improve your's Bex ;) poke | talk 22:53, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
I know. :) I was just a little sad you didn't like my pixel arts. I value your opinion, that's all. :) I'm glad doing it has incited action though. I don't mind at all if mine doesn't get used. :P - BeX iawtc 22:58, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
My icon was not used either :P But hey, Anja used your icon as a favicon for a long time! poke | talk 22:59, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

That is very cool! I guessed she stopped using it when my website died hehe. I will wait to see what it gets replaced with, rather than using it now, but thank you for sharing that with me. :D - BeX iawtc 23:09, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
She used an uploaded file here: diff. I think she removed it when the discussion on Emily's talk page started to see the new icon. poke | talk 23:16, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Poke is correct ;) I really liked your icon though Bex, so I will go back to that if they fail once again :P - anja talk 06:15, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I'm just curious but how do you create an .ico for use as a favicon? Is there a specific program or would photoshop do it? --Kakarot Talk 23:42, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Photoshop doesn't afaik, although someone has probably made a plugin for that. There are a few converters online. - BeX iawtc 00:04, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
For really good results you should use icon designers like Axialis IconWorkshop or Microangelo Icon Editor as they fully support the ico filetype. At least for favicons you do not need all those features and nearly all browsers support even a gif as a favicon. poke | talk 07:52, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
Paint.Net has support for ICO files through a plugin. I have never tried it, but it is freeware. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 08:33, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your input

Poke, I appreciate your input on Anja's page. I may still look into using what you suggested as it would make the code cleaner and easier to use imo. I'm wonding if you might be able to help me figure out something else I'm trying to do with this Template. If you notice, there are 3 lines in this table. The first line designates the current title name and rank. The second line shows the numerical progress of the title...and the third is the "progress bar" that you were kind enough to help with. The third line consists of 2 table cells next to each other. Is there a way to span the information in the cell above it across those two cells and keep it centered in between it. I'm trying to make this look as much like the Hero Panel as I can, but can't seem to find a way to do this specific thing. It's almost like one cell super-imposed over two cells. Let me know what you think. Thanks. Jfarris964 21:55, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

If I understood you correctly, you want to merge the second and third line so that the text or description is above the progression bar? (above here, so that the progression bar is in the background of the text) poke | talk 22:09, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
It was difficult for me to try to explain, but I think you understand what I'd like to try to do. If the progression bar has to be done differently, I'm completely open to that option as well. I was just using two cells in a table because it seemed to give me the desired result and I didn't know how else to do it. Jfarris964 22:20, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Ok, then you may be interested in the Progress bar template as it features exactly that what you try to do. You can of course also look at the code and improve your template to make it working. Feel free to ask if you have any difficulties :) poke | talk 22:42, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
WOW....thank you very much. That was exactly what I was looking for. I've just incorporated that Template into what I was trying to do. It's giving me the exact result I was looking for. Thanks again. Jfarris964 23:25, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
I happen to click from time to time on "What links here" on this Progress bar template I created, and I'm always surprised to realize that more and more people use it and seem to like it ! ^^ --Funky Jah (talk) User Funky Jah icon.jpg 13:38, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

A copyviolation does not only applies when you simply copy an image or content. It is more when you use images or content which are incompatible with our GFDL license. As we only are allowed to use GFDL content or specific ArenaNet content (which is not released under GFDL then, that is why we have templates like {{screenshot}} for example), we cannot use content under Fair Use or a similar agreement. poke | talk 19:28, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to a wiki. You cannot limit the users who are allowed to edit a page. Everybody can edit every page, that is the concept of a wiki. Especially when we have the Birthday list as a wiki-global project (released from the userspace) you cannot say that nobody should edit the page. poke | talk 21:05, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
No im not saying no one can but the format should be limited to certain people otherwise the page's format (i.e. color, the way tables are setup stuff like that) would change every single day. I gave u credit at the bottom of the page for doing it, however, it would be nice if you would ask the orginal creators of this if u want to edit the main format of the page. --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 21:15, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
No, you don't understand it. A wiki is to allow everybody to change everything. It is ok to change the layout of a specific page everyday as long as nobody is against it; and when that is the case you can revert that change and by GWW:1RV it is secured that it doesn't get to a revert war. Please understand that this is the concept of a wiki. poke | talk 21:20, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Poke wins here. This would be a different situation if it was in your userspace, but it's not. Eloc could edit it and make it all black and maroon if he wanted. Nothing's stopping him. Although it'd probably be changed to more festive colors quickly. Calor Talk 21:20, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
You do not seem to be understanding this, i kno that this is what a wiki is but it is common courtesy to inform the orignal creators of the page b4 you change the main format of the page. I know the concept of the wiki, and this is not a matter of policy it is a matter of common courtesy --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 21:23, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
It's common courtesy in the userspace. Only there. Calor Talk 21:24, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Edit history is credit enough. Calor Talk 21:26, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
While i understand what you say, on a wiki this is impossible to apply. Courtesy is limited to informing changes on the respective talk page, and concensus is called for changes staying or being reverted. But asking the creator of every article for it's opinion would make things hard to change, and thus is not done.--Fighterdoken 21:29, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

remind me to never do anything nice for the wiki if everytime it will bring up controversy --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 21:32, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict) So how do you want to define on which pages this should apply and on which not? It's just simple: Everybody can edit every page; for the user space, other users are encouraged to not edit the user space of others. poke | talk 21:33, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Right. If the changes are good, let's leave it at that. If another "major" change is made, and people don't like it, bring it up on the talk page and perhaps it will be changed. I cannot see why someone else would want to change the major format of the page. Moving to the GWW space does reduce the restrictions of editing by anyone, but it also makes other people more wary of editing it - people don't want to change something that's already established, especially when it's something in the Guild Wars Wiki namespace.
If something does happen, it can be dealt with then. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 21:34, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Pet Project

Hiya Poke, since you seem to be the one that always ends up fixing my ugly tables and such for my projects lol, I thought u might want to have a look at my newest (dont plan to launch it till later this month). I think that it looks ok but I thought u might have an opinion on it lol, it is here (I plan to change the color but it is just a draft atm). --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 18:20, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

It looks really fine, but I think a two (or three) column layout would be a bit better when it comes to images which take a lot space. poke | talk 18:34, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
I was hoping the 100px would cover that I am going to test it out in a minute just have to get a pic of my pet on my comp. I will see how it looks then. --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 18:42, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Just inputting my two cents on it; I'd make the images like [[Image:User Username My Pet|100x100px|right]] to give them a maximum height of 100 px too. :) — Galil Talk page 18:49, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Ok I think that might be a good idea thanks --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 18:51, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
This won't change the fact that when there are images there are only 3 or 4 pets visible and between the image and the signature is a lot of free space, so I would prefer a more smaller design with more columns poke | talk 18:58, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

übersichtlich

übersichtlich in english is clearly --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Four-Leaf Clover.png 00:54, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Your template for the favicon boxes automatically takes the entry for class from another part of the page and interprets that as the colour it chooses, to set the colour of the box. To make it customisable you would need to altar your templates for the boxes to allow an optional colour instead of the default to the set profession colours. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 17:42, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

  3. Would you be able to make wise choices when it comes to selecting administrators?
  4. Would you be sure to explain your actions when using your powers as a bcrat?
  5. Would you wear you status as a bcrat as a badge?

Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/User birthdays

Since you originally made the birthday day rotator; haha can't come up with a better name for this; you probably can fix it. For me at least it seems to be stuck on the 3rd when it's the 4th both by my time and wiki time. This is the first time I've seen it happen and I'm not sure what would cause it, it could just be happening to me. I've tried clearing my cache with Ctrl + F5 without success. --Kakarot Talk 14:15, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

It shows 3rd for me too. And it's the first time I see it happen too. - talk helena 15:42, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Updating Images

Hey, I just tried to update the Map of Image:Ghial the Bone Dancer map.jpg and it seemed to work but unfortunately the old crappy image is still displayed instead of my newer, nicer Version even though the File History states it has been updated. Is there a delay between the new image beeing uploaded and displayed or is the Wiki not working properly atm? Cause when I'm now trying to reupload it again (ie. update it again) it always aborts and says the image Im trying to upload is corrupt or an unallowed Format. Both sounds unrealistic since its a jpg file and it doesnt seem corrupt either since it works and opens fine here. --SilentStorm User SilentStorm MySig.png 15:18, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

When you try to reupload an image there is a text saying: "Note: The current settings of the internal image cache prevents new image versions to be displayed immediately. After upload the old image may be displayed with the new image's size instead. If the new image does not show up after one hour and after clearing your local cache (CTRL+F5), please try to upload it again."
I think that explains well why you don't see the image. Nevertheless when I look at the file, the new is already visible, so you should clear your cache. poke | talk 15:29, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
I did Ctrl+F5 several times aswell as deleting all Temporany Internet Files before I wrote the message ;) But I must've missed the Note you quoted. The old image was indeed shown with the new size. Now the new image is displayed for me too. Thanks for the info. --SilentStorm User SilentStorm MySig.png 15:52, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Watch/unwatch question

Since you are online and know a lot about js and css I was wondering if you knew of any way to hide or stop that little notice coming up when I click watch/unwatch on a page. Since I use Galil's Ajaxifier it doesn't go to a seperate page and it's kinda annoying to have that keep coming up when I already know what it is telling me.
I figured there might be some kind of div id or something similar which would allow me to add something like that ".noticeboardbox{display:none;}" code that some people use to hide the red box you added to the admin noticeboard but have no idea what it would be called. If there is no way it's not too important, just thought I'd ask just in case :) --Kakarot Talk 16:17, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Hmm. I don't know if it is actually a good idea to use the ajaxifier watch with the MediaWiki watch function. It could be, that they are both working at the same time, so that there will be two requests at the same time (which could make problems). As Galil is not around atm. I cannot say if he will update his ajaxifier soon.
However, to just hide the box - without making any changes to the script - you can simply add div.mw-js-message-watch { display: none } to your monobook.css. poke | talk 16:24, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Yay! --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 16:31, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Well it got rid of the message but now it seems to no longer change from watch to unwatch and vice versa without the need to Ctrl + F5. Probably might be best to wait for Galil to get back and hopefully update ajaxifier if he can. --Kakarot Talk 16:44, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
The css should not change that behaviour though.. I think it might be because both scripts are working against each other.. poke | talk 16:45, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
It works for me fine -- it worked as Galil's did, no need to refresh. (I don't have his ajaxifier anymore). --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 16:48, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Code

Kinda related. Due to the recent update, the image galleries have been formed into actual galleries (read: THUMBNAIL). I was wondering if there was some kind of way to bypass this, and force the images into text, thus allowing for faster tagging speed and greater page viewing numbers (ie. I can have more images up at one time). I'm just the kind of guy who has 10 or more tabs in FF at one time, and it would be nice not to have the gallery slowing me down. --TalkPeople of Antioch 04:40, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Can you give an example of what you mean? poke | talk 12:16, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
I think Special:Uncategorizedimages and Special:Unusedimages are good examples. They used to be text lists (at least one of them) but now they are galleries. - anja talk 12:45, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Hm.. When I remember the old lists correctly, there were a lot confusing links; so I definitely think this is better, as you also can see the image directly.. Is your problem that the images need to be loaded or what exactly? Because I don't think it is a matter that the images take up some more space of the page.. poke | talk 12:57, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes both were text lists Anja. In relation to these two, in some ways I prefer the gallery although it did load up a lot faster with just text links. --Kakarot Talk 13:34, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Given, it does let a person see the images first. But the loading time is unbearable anyway, and we'll all mostly hit the (disc) [description] link that used to be there. If unused could be taken out of the gallery, that would be nice. There's usually over nine-tho... *cough* Four hundred images there anyway. --TalkPeople of Antioch 00:23, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
So it's mainly the loading time of the images, you want to prevent; as all links now go to the description page (like the desc link before). I have to disappoint you. With javascript, a client-side scripting language which applies after the page was loaded, it is not possible to prevent all images from being loaded (probably some loading processes will be stopped but most of them go through). In this case it would need a server-side modification to not show the images.
The only possibility I could think of would be using a browser-based image blocker to prevent the browser from loading the images.
And btw. the whole page loads for me (uncached) in about 5 seconds. And that is not much, especially when you use tabbed browsing.. You can load the page once, then open all images in tabs, click the next page and then go through the opened images.. poke | talk 15:07, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Ah, nuts. I did a run last night. It took a little longer, but I suppose I have to deal with it. Ah well. --TalkPeople of Antioch 15:23, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
One minor problem with the gallery that I've noticed is that some of the images; ones that are smaller than the box; get enlarged to 120px and end up looking blurry although this only affects the preview. --Kakarot Talk 17:03, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Invalid Guild Names

I noticed you tagged OMG Noobs as an invalid name so I checked Smurf's invalid guild name page and noticed that he/she has used dpl to list Guilds with invalid names. Would it be possible to create a page or category that lists these, and if so would it be a helpful page to have? --Kakarot Talk 18:44, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't think there is a problem in using Smurf's or Tomato's page for that. I don't think anything else is needed (and a category won't work) poke | talk 18:47, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

DPL question

Sorry to bother you again but since you seem to be one of the users who has the best understanding of DPL I figured if anyone would be able to answer it would be you.
Anyway, I've been messing about with the use of DPL in my sandbox; only preview of course; and was wondering when it comes to images, is there any parameter that would check if there is any pages that link to it. For example at the bottom of my signature image it includes a list of all the pages that that particular image appears on under links. Is there any way to only list images that appear on a certain page or that don't appear on any page. I figured it might be something to do with "linksfrom" or "linksto" but have no idea what I would put after the =. --Kakarot Talk 22:02, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Do you mean Special:Unusedimages which shows files which are not being used on any page, and then you can use Special:Whatlinkshere/Image:Warrior_Elite_Templar_armor_f_red_front_head.jpg for example to find out which pages may link to the file but dont include it.
And I dont think that you would be able to work out about which images are featured on a page with DPL... well that I can think of, and after some brief testing here --The Great Tomato The Great Tomato 22:50, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah what I want is sort of like Special:Unusedimages but with a few changes. As I've been playing around with DPL today learning what it can do, I was wondering if what I mentioned above is even possible and Poke seemed like the one that would most likely know either way. --Kakarot Talk 22:57, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Usually creating a test page works best. That's the way I've worked with DPL in the past and I asked Rezyk and poke to drop in to have a look and change the page if they found something that could be improved. I looked at your contributions, but I guess you only were experimenting with the "preview"-button? -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 13:44, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
As far as I know it is not possible to generate lists as they exists in special pages with DPL. DPL only has access to "normal" pages and a query to get unused images out of that would probably a too big load (it could work by getting all images and filter those ones out, who are not linked), especially as DPL is not able to use the result limit correctly. poke | talk 14:28, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

We have the Guild Wars Wiki:Blocking guideline which is not yet accepted but is still helpful to get an idea of the durations.
