Can't add modules to my PvP edition
Hi, Regina, I have a serious problem. I own the PvP Edition of Guild Wars, yet I can't add the $10 EotN Skill Unlock pack to be able to use the Ch.4 skills on my PvP characters. Why not? Because ArenaNet/NCSoft changed the way they sell the PvP Edition, and they no longer honor the old purchases for some reason.
Let me explain better. I'm a PvP-only player who bought Prophecies and Factions, and when Nightfall was announced, they sold a $40 "Nightfall PvP Edition" which gave access to the Battle Isles and Nightfall professions and skills for PvP characters but had none of the PvE content. Sometime between then and now, they did away with the old PvP Editions and now sell the much cheaper and more flexible $20 "PvP Access Kit." I'd like to play with the EotN skills, but the problem is that they can only be added to the PvP Access Kit itself, not any of the (older) PvP Editions.
If you want a recap of the problem, you can quickly scan the first 4 posts on the 2nd page of this thread: http://www.guild-hall.net/forum/showthread.php?t=46066&page=2
What I would like is for players who bought any of the old $40 PvP Editions to be credited as owning the $20 PvP Access Kit. I would then be quite happy to purchase the EotN skill pack. I see it as completely unfair to force me to buy the PvP Access Kit now in order to get the EotN skill pack, simply because ArenaNet basically changed the name of the PvP Edition. The PvP Access Kit would do literally nothing for my account. I already have access to every skill, profession, and Battle Isles area up through the first 3 chapters.
The Guild Wars sales staff has had the unfortunate reputation in some places of playing shenanigans when it came to the PvP side of things, but I really believe this was just an oversight. I have a friend who is in the same boat as me, and we really hope you can do something to help fix this problem. 'Cause I see spending an extra $20 for literally nothing as pretty ridiculous; it's something I won't do, and I think it paints the company in a very bad light as well.
Thank you VERY much for your time! --Small Purple Raisin 22:31, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, Small Purple Raisin. After you posted this message, I passed along your suggestion and asked for an explanation why those with the original PvP Editions could not purchase the GWEN Skill Unclocks. The reason that players who own the old PvP Editions are unable to add the new Skill Packs without the PvP Access Kit was because the original PvP Editions did not unlock the skills for the newer Professions (Assassin, Ritualist, Dervish, Paragon), however the GWEN skill pack would give a player access to those skills without having the Professions' skills unlocked.
- There are a number of players who, like you, would like to purchase the new Skill Unlock Packs, but don't want to pay $20 for the new PvP Access Kit, since you have already paid for the original PvP Edition. These concerns have been heard and players who bought the original Guild Wars PvP Editions will soon be credited as having the PvP Access Kit, at no cost. This will allow players to purchause the new Skill Unlock Packs. At this time, I do not have a timeframe on when the PvP Access Kits will be added to accounts with the original PvP Editions. I will get more information as soon as I can and give you an update. Thanks! --Regina Buenaobra 17:58, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have an update to this question. They've decided that this process will not be automatic, rather it will be handled by Customer Support on a case-by-case basis, and based upon an individual's particular circumstances. Players will have to initiate a ticket through the Customer Support website if they have a question or need help with their original PvP Edition and the new Unlock Packs. --Regina Buenaobra 19:21, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

What Happens If...?
I've always wondered what would happen if, for example, before you worked for Anet someone else had a character named Regian Buenaobra? Would they be forced to rename it. And since you can't name a character anything similar to Gaile Gray (I assume it's that same with all staff members0, what if someone had the name Regina Buenabra (or another variant on your name) before you worked for Anet? Would they also be foreced to change? Thanks :) Lyra Valo 16:54, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- whats the odds for someone naming their character Regina Buenaobra out of every name --Blood Anthem 16:58, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
No. Only Gaile I believe, and it was by her request. You see guilds and names with "Izzy F A I L S" and stuff like that all the time. --Noxify
I quote from the Guild Wars User Agreement as follows: Section 4, Part (d) states, "You may not select as your Character Name the name of another person, or a name which violates any third party's trademark right, copyright, or other proprietary right, or which may mislead other players to believe you to be an employee of NC Interactive or its affiliated companies, or which NC Interactive deems at its sole discretion to be vulgar or otherwise offensive." It would be a violation of the User Agreement to name your character any real name other than your own personal one, and ArenaNet could in fact change it if they wanted to, at any time.12.217.179.236 05:53, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- I feel sorry for anyone with a similar name to an Arenanet employee. 118.92.95.183 21:10, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how many people will name their in-game characters after their real name; that's not exactly safe. I've never seen it happen, except in the case of ArenaNet employees anyway. It's practically a non-issue, and if an exception ever did arise, I'm sure ArenaNet would be sensible about it.207.191.205.18 15:18, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- "It would be a violation of the User Agreement to name your character any real name other than your own personal one" How is anyone supposed to know whether someone else has your character name, in all probability there are 1000s of GW characters with names that someone who is not the owner has. Also you wouldn't intentionally be naming your character to mislead, in fact it wouldn't even be misleading to begin with if the Arenanet employee was not an employee at the time of creating. Lyra Valo 15:29, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, a friend of mine claims he had a character named "John Smith" after himself, and had to have it changed because it corrisponded with an Anet employee. But in that case, there are plenty of people playing GW, and working for Anet, I imagine, that have one of those super common names. What do you do in that case? --Wolf 14:23, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Guild wars 2 released information
Supposedly some information might be released at PAX 2008, and a possible beta may be coming up, but are there any plans to release information between now and late 2008, and are the PAX 2008 and beta pieces of information actually correct? Tambora 17:07, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- All of this is still under discussion --Regina Buenaobra 19:00, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey Regina, I want you to know that YOU are a big part of the reason i will not be buying GW2. You are a horrible excuse for a community manager. You take every single Ursan thread and move it elsewhere without responding to it. This is what people disliked about Gaile. A difficult issue comes up and rather than deal with it you ditch it. Your own actions have proven that you have no honor and no credibility at all. I don't care if you think it is important, you guys screwed your players to sell a few extra copies of EOTN. There is no excuse for this.
- I don't think it makes much sense to answer the same question ten times a week, does it? She already said they're discussing if they'll nerf ursan or not. -- Mini Me 19:39, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
- This "difficult issue" continues to be discussed in the community with the same points coming up over and over again. The game designers made decisions based on the data they have about how most players play the game and with the "have fun now" philosophy in mind. We know we can't please everyone, and to try and please everyone is ludicrous. The designers are well aware that many players are frustrated about Ursan Blessing, but you know what? A whole lot of people like it. Who do you think they should listen to? The loudest voices? --Regina Buenaobra 19:55, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Getting back on the topic, I have a rather simple Yes, No, Maybe or IDK Question, and this is for Regina, (and I'm about to be extremely blunt here) I don't want or care about what anyone else thinks or wants to say. the question: Will there be ANY info regarding GW2 at PAX 2008? This is rather important, as I need to make avisit to the Seattle Campus of University of Washington, and if it permits, I would realy like to be able to have those two overlap, as I realy want to avoid flying out to Washington TWICE, as it is getting VERY expensive. Anyway, thanks in advance Regina! --Wolf 14:35, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Since you repeat that over and over and somehow it seems quite alien to me when thinking of GW, one question: at what point did ANet change the “skill>time” philosophy to “have fun now”? I really can’t remember ever having read something about “have fun now” up until you took over as CM. Yes sure, Jeff Strain said things like “you can achieve something in 30 minutes”, “every player should play the way he/she wants to” and “you can leave and come back and you’ll still be able to compete with others”. But I have never ever heard him say “have fun now” being GWs philosophy! No. GWs original philosophy afaik has always been “skill is more important then time spend playing!” aka “skill>time”! Which always related to that a 24/7 players character will NEVER be stronger then an average Joes character, who only plays once or twice a week! Of course if “have fun now” at some point has become GWs NEW philosophy, abandoning “skill>time” (without ever telling us of this change), it explains a whole lot of things why GW has so dramatically shifted to the Grind Wars it is now! Regarding UB: no you don’t need to listen to the loudest voice! But you need to find a compromise between the ppl that like it and the ppl that think it ruins the game! That’s what the Devs need to do! Regards ~Garbaron~; 21th Jun 2008
Open World and Travel - Take II
Hey there.
"Back in January, you guys removed travel restrictions from Korean districts and gave a foresight towards a 'subsequent build' in the coming weeks.
So, I would like to ask you how far your progress on removing restrictions to the Taiwanese and Japanese districts is at the moment, and whether we are to expect said 'subsequent build' anytime soon now.
Thank you for your kindest of interests on this matter!"
This actually was a quote from Gaile's talkpage, back from March.
It's been nearly five and a half month now... would you mind sharing any news on this? - Dantana 13:30, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Excuse my apparent impatience, but... excuse me. - Dantana 20:56, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- I never noticed this section here before. I'd also like to know when ANet plans on opening up travel to and from the Japanese districts. Any word yet, Regina? Kokuou 04:49, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Comic Con 2008
I'm wondering will NC Soft or ArenaNet be at the Comic Con this year? They were last year. Thanks. – Barinthus 02:05, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- There are no plans for ArenaNet to be at the San Diego Comic Con this year. --Regina Buenaobra 18:48, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
GW2 Information? Please? Wait... are you still even making GW2?
When are we going to hear more about Guild Wars 2? I mean come on! We have been waiting ages now!! ;) But seriously, you guys talked LOADS really early on when it was first announced and now there is this huuuge silence. Can't you just tell us a bit more about the things you have cooking in the ANet couldren of uberness? lol. Maybe some more info on how the world is looking and feeling 250 years on? or some more input on the races. I mean if you guys wanna keep the sylvari in the dark till the game is released I don't have anything against that, hell i like surprises! But theres always more to say about the other races I guess? You could release 2 or 3 screenshots to tease the fans with, or some ingame footage that doesn't reveal too much, you know? even if its a reeeally short teaser trailer to get us all excited lol. I just wanna see something! :D --Alien 16:32, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
what in the hell does a male sylvari even look like?
- Look at "Silence is not golden here" above. — Poki#3 17:51, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- I was always partial to the "start with nothing but a title and give a bit more at a time and build on the suspense" approach. It makes you feel a lot less left in the dark, as you cna always rely on a stead stream of info and media than just this kinda big load all at once and then NOTHING untill release. I feel abandoned. That's not a good thing. I understand the entire staff must be busy working on GW2, but does it realy take that much time to throw a few screenshots or a few seconds of video on the site and let it spread from their like a viral video? I mean, you put a GW2 screenshot on the site and it will be EVERYWHERE in 2-4 days, garenteed or your money back =D. But please, give us something new, anything, fo rus to talk about and oogle over while you resume your mad working frenzy. --Wolf 19:43, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Facebook Pages
I was aimlessly browsing around facebook as you do and I stumbled across two pages, one for Guild Wars and one for Guild Wars 2. No idea if these are official or not, anybody know? Either way, I joined both and facebook users here will probably want to check them out. :) I thought it would be an excellent alternative medium for community relations and I would love to see game updates and news using the "page updates" feature. If they are official that is.. Klassy 12:29, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
- That's an interesting and very modern one if Anet was to have an official facepage site. After all there are several countries with virtual embassies in Second Life. – Barinthus 00:19, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- Cool, I just joined myself. --Nekki 14:36, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- They aren't official as far as I am aware. I and a few people in NCsoft currently have admin control of an unpublished Guild Wars 2 Facebook page, but it's not live or public yet. Once we get the Facebook GW2 page up (more likely when we have more GW2 content to make public) we will probably integrate newsfeeds from the GW website into the Facebook page and use the updates feature. --Regina Buenaobra 19:35, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- That's cool to know although :) Will be keeping an eye out for that, I'm sure it won't be for a while. – Barinthus 09:06, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
E3, E for All, Comic Con 2008, Gen-Con 2008 and PAX 2008
Just wondering is Anet Planning a Teaser of GW2 at least or something during one of the Upcoming Events. A Cinematic will be good just to get us ready for the Beta for the Game as of Any Other Information coming in the next few months. I Know you guys said "We will be first to Tel you if Any info. comes up" But when do u think the first set of Info will come out actually and which event. --რiɫՒ¤§ 19:02, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- If you read closely enough, you'll find that NCsoft isn't attending E3 this year, and that nothing is settled yet for PAX. I never heard of EfA, and I don't know why a gaming company would go to some comic convention... — Poki#3 21:17, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- Damn I wanted to see them at E3, the time I actually go to E3 for my first time they aren't going to be there.--The Cyphero 02:29, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ever since the E3 Problem last year they held the First E for All (a Samller E3) for Games. Site can be found Here (E for All October 3-5) This is the second year for E for All. E For all is also on the Bottom of the Official E3 site is you look closely xD Also About Comic Con 2008. Correction, People who founded Anet used to work for Blizzard Correct? Blizzard "DOES" go to Comic Con so I really don't see why not Anet/NCSoft would also. --რiɫՒ¤§ 06:30, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- NcSoft was at ComicCon 2007 where they distributed Miniature Grawl codes and there were Guild Wars ads as well – Barinthus 09:34, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Don't Forget Gen-Con.....Geezz there is alot of Conventions where Anet Has a chance to Announce info on Guild Wars 2 --რiɫՒ¤§ 19:10, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
ArenaNet and NCsoft will be at PAX 2008. NCsoft will be at ComicCon, but ArenaNet will not. Apart from PAX, there are no other convention appearances planned for ArenaNet that I am aware of. --Regina Buenaobra 18:52, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Alright - I'll be sure to check out NCsoft's booth at ComicCon :) – Barinthus 23:01, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

- You do not lose your customized gear. My warrior has undergone two name changes and I haven't had to change my armor. --76.25.197.215 03:21, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- I heard opinions from both sides as to the fact that you can't equip customized gear. I think that you still can. It makes more sense to link items to a character ID, and then use that ID to fetch a name to display, then linking it to the name directly. — Poki#3 09:39, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- If you can't use stuff customized for the character when you recreate a character of the same name, then yeah, I would assume it's tied to ID. I would expect that it's really saying "Customized for %{char:23faba134abc3212faca4}" and that if the name of char:23....4 changed that the text on the item would actually update ... That's just my guess though. Don't expect to experience this myself as all my characters have names that are either real names somewhere or mean generic words (red autumn, shining heart, sort of stuff) in another language. --Star Weaver 15:48, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's probably a combination of both. If you put a character's armor in storage, then delete him, it will still be customized to that character's name. You cannot, however, use that armor on a new character with the same name. ~Shard (talk) 09:04, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's a combo of both me thinks. As ive had friends who have had name changes and they had to scrap their armour. -- Salome 09:23, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- /complain Maybe I should've named my warr something like that, maybe I'd have the chance to be active with him again. Oh well. Sorry for the spam, can't resist complaining my ass off. Ninjas In The Sky 10:52, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- One of my guildies has been asked to change the name of a few of his characters. He can still use all his old customized items on the renamed character. The name on the items is the same as the original name. So to illustrate with an example - I name my character "Racist Sonofabitch" and get armor and customize his sword of killing stuff. Someone spots the name and reports it as offensive. I'm asked to change the name. I change it to "Fluffy Bunnyhugs." My sword and armor still say customized for "Racist Sonofabitch" and my character can still use them. Infact, my name still appears as "Racist Sonofabitch" in the friends lists of people who added me before the change, and my guild roster will display "Racist Sonofabitch" when I am off line. Although, anyone trying to add "Racist Sonofabitch" to their friends list after the change will be told there is no such player. Hope that explains it all clearly. --- Countess Corpula June 28, 2008, 23:24 EDT

This weekend's Maintenance
Just a quick question; why wasn't the information that you have on your journal and here made avaliable on the login screen? I have seen many people complaining of bad lag and errors when switching servers. I would have thought something so disruptive, especially on the weekend would have been made more avaliable to us. People don't seem to be visiting the guild wars website to get information, many people seem to have been completely blindsided. 000.00.00.00 09:09, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- As I recall, information like this WAS posted on the log-in screen, I don't knwo why it wasn't this time --Wolf 14:03, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- I haven't noticed it in the announcement screen. I did however copy the text and putt it in guild announcement to warn my fellow guildies. --Silverleaf 14:58, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- It doesnt really matter if its on the log in screen, I never read it nor does most of the people I know. We all have our game set to auto log in. I have not typed an email or password in over two years. No keylogger will ever get my nfo. Drogo Boffin 15:04, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Actually that won't prevent a keylogger from getting your email and password at all. They can easily generate a list of all the running processes and their command line parameters (which includes your email and password in plaintext) and retrieve your account information that way. --Draikin 18:34, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Drogo, I think thats beside the point. More people are likely to check if there's a mention on the log in, I hardly know of anyone who was the auto login but thats just me. Wolf, I would had thought it be more productive to have the information more accessible at the time, I know of not one person who had any knowledge of this appearing on the online screen. Silverleaf, I slap my forehead, why didn't I think of that? Good man. 000.00.00.00 18:40, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Woman :). I like to keep my guild (and alliance) informed. --Silverleaf 18:49, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, I have an excuse, I was sleeping through most of it. Its nice to know there are people such as yourself doing their part to help those in the in-game community. You should be commended. 000.00.00.00 19:19, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- How does one get an IP Address of all zeros? Anyway, I know every time in the past that they performed maintenance, that they posted a thing about it on the log-in screen like a week ahead of time. This tiem, they didn't and it only appeared on Regina's journal same day ro day before. Perhaps it was realy short notice and they didn't have time to mess with the log-in screen? I don't know, it worried me too that this information wasn't as readily available. --Wolf 20:01, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Its his username :). And ty for the compliment allthough i do less then others. --Silverleaf 20:04, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- It is my nickname as my username could not have .s in it. I wouldn't have thought something like server maintanence as being 'short notice' but even if it was, it was very disruptive and 'dangerous' to some characters, I'm looking at you survivors. Such things should be a priority to inform the players so then players could be better prepared. Perhaps this is something Arenanet can address when reviewing for future maintenance as just putting it on the Guild Wars website seem to be less of a direct route to such important information.000.00.00.00 23:00, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Its his username :). And ty for the compliment allthough i do less then others. --Silverleaf 20:04, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, I have an excuse, I was sleeping through most of it. Its nice to know there are people such as yourself doing their part to help those in the in-game community. You should be commended. 000.00.00.00 19:19, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Woman :). I like to keep my guild (and alliance) informed. --Silverleaf 18:49, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Actually that won't prevent a keylogger from getting your email and password at all. They can easily generate a list of all the running processes and their command line parameters (which includes your email and password in plaintext) and retrieve your account information that way. --Draikin 18:34, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- It doesnt really matter if its on the log in screen, I never read it nor does most of the people I know. We all have our game set to auto log in. I have not typed an email or password in over two years. No keylogger will ever get my nfo. Drogo Boffin 15:04, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- I haven't noticed it in the announcement screen. I did however copy the text and putt it in guild announcement to warn my fellow guildies. --Silverleaf 14:58, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've asked around and it's more than likely something like this would require coder time, which we do not have right now. It's a good idea, however, and one that I support so I'll raise it again when it looks like we'll have the resources to work on it.--Regina Buenaobra 16:38, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
A Concern on throwing a party in Presearing
Good Evening Regina,
My name is James, IGN Peri Woodbane, a proud member of TYTN. In the past TYTN has thrown some pretty big parties for the presearing public, giving away an average of 1 mill in gold and items free of charge during parties we host to give back to the community. The guilds one year anniversary is arriving, and we are planning to top everything we have ever done for the community. However, there is a concern people have mentioned about the new protections built in the software. Some are afraid that if they accept our prizes, or even our members are worried that because they are giving away large amounts of items and gold, that there would be reprecussions. Is there anything we can do, to be assured that our members who have worked so hard to earn the items being given away, and to assure the presearing public, that it is safe for their accounts to join in the festivities, and enjoy the free items we will be giving away? If you would like more details about the birthday party, feel free to email me at peri@legendarytitansgw.com.
Thank you in advance for your response on this,
James

- The organizers of other events had come to me about this issue before. I'd advised them to contact customer support, letting them know that this player event is taking place (giving specifics of times, dates, event web page, and the IGNs of the organizers, as well as any other information you think they may need). Let them know that prizes in the form of in-game gold and items are going to be distributed and that you are worried that participants may be incorrectly flagged for RMT. To my knowledge, none of these event organizers had any problems with their accounts after giving warning to support. --Regina Buenaobra 16:45, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- Party? When? --Silverleaf 06:37, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- You should write something like this on Gaile Grays talk page I think. I also think the guild and character names would be useful. Oh and... Party? When? — Poki#3 10:52, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm known to be quite the wallypallock when it comes to partying, and this interests me also. Vael Victus 14:35, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- Same for me. More info please and thank-you =D --Wolf 14:36, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- I thought you liked to be dreary so only the darker people would get any enjoyment out of your presence, Vael? --71.229.253.172 14:37, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- Now what's the point in that? Not only the darker people. I'm not some social outcast or something. It's not like I go out of my way to be evil. It just so happens that the mannerisms I display aren't very warm to some people. I have like 3 goth friends and we don't even do many goth things together. A lot of my other friends are just the normal people........ okay, scratch that, they're just not-goth. So no, I know exactly how to handle myself around people who don't enjoy talking about black suns or how we're destroying the earth slowly or how no one knows how to use good grammar anymore or talking about the time we once had a picnic in a graveyard or learned how to write run-on sentences. I can still be genuinely dreary and have a great time, as well as entertain those around me. But thank you for the concern, IP. Vael Victus 00:58, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- The party is going to be on a select date between mid to late July. The date isnt etched in stone as of yet, because we want to get a few answers on the security thing first. Until now it hasnt been much of a concern, but the amount of gifts we will be giving away in a 2 to 4 hour span, has us worried.(Teaser: Over 3.5 million in gold and prizes) The name of the guild is Legendary Titans of Ascalon (TYTN)and I stated before my character name is Peri Woodbane. I too thought of placing this question on Gailes page, however I know she is in a different position now, and I thought it only polite to go to the new community lead. I dont really want to turn this thread into an advertisement, so if anyone has questions for me, please email me at peri@legendarytitansgw.com. **PERI**
- Post it on Gaile's too. It would probably be better answered by her than Regina. 000.00.00.00 22:15, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Vael you crack me up lol. Complaining that people can't use "good" grammar?
- I know it's supposed to be "correct" grammar, but that's only if you overanalyze everything. People don't know the difference between well and good, you're and your, the theres, and even down to may and might. (I let may and might slip) If I was writing an essay, or a book, yes, I'd use perfect grammar, but on the GW wiki? Nonesense. Glad I crack you up, though! I'm here merely for comic relief.
