Balanced build
A balanced build is designed to be flexible and has multiple strategies and tactics to win. The build attempts to lessen the rock-paper-scissors effect by being able to perform well enough against most things it will encounter. Opponents are often defeated through the player's timing and skill at improvising on the spot instead of a certain surefire counter (players' skill instead of skills).
Compared to gimmick build, a balanced build usually reserves a specific team role for each teammate, placing melee professions as the front-line, ranged or control professions as the mid-line, and the support as the back-line. Where some gimmick builds can be played more or less equally by players of different skill levels, the effectiveness of a balanced build (or team) will increase dramatically with the skill of the players playing the build.
