This page is an accepted formatting guideline on the Guild Wars Wiki.

It has wide acceptance among editors and is considered a standard that all contributors should follow. Before editing this page, it is suggested to gather consensus on the talk page first.

This is the basic outline of how to create an article for a weapon. A weapon includes all items that can attack and offhand items, such as shields and foci. For more information about the formatting on unique item articles, see the unique item formatting guide.

Description

Templates

The name of the weapon and the image is set to automatically display. The name will always be the name of the article. The image acts the same as the name, so if you wanted to upload an image to display for Spiked Axe, you would upload Spiked Axe.jpg.

The damagetype parameter is only used for weapons that attack. Omit this section for shields and foci.

The bow class parameter is used to record the type of class a bow falls under. Use this section only for bows.

The campaign parameter allows:

Depending on the weapon, multiple campaigns may need to be recorded. See exceptions for location formatting with multiple campaign parameters.

The salvage parameters:

Acquisition

Acquisition is where the weapon can be found throughout Guild Wars.

Note: Random drop means a weapon drops from every monster in that particular campaign.

  • If the weapon is found in all campaigns:
  • If a weapon is found in specific campaign and is a random drop:
    • Denote the region(s) in which the weapon is found.
    • Denote it as a random drop in those regions.
    • Denote what type of chest the weapon can be found in, i.e. Jade Swords can be found in Luxon Chests.
    • Denote any collectors and/or weaponsmiths that provide the weapon.
  • If a weapon is found in specific campaign and is not a random drop:
    • Denote the region(s) in which the weapon is found.
    • Denote what type of species/subspecies drops the weapon, i.e. Briar Blades are dropped by plants.
    • Denote what type of profession drops the weapon, i.e. Blazing Wing Wands are dropped by elementalists.
    • Denote what type of chest the weapon can be found in, i.e. Jade Swords can be found in Luxon Chests.
    • Denote any collectors and/or weaponsmiths that provide the weapon.
    • Include Drop research tables as for items in talk page.

Acquisition exceptions

Multiple campaigns

If a weapon is found in more than one campaign parameter (the Shadow Blade appears in both Core and Nightfall), use the following format:

  • Denote the campaign(s) where the weapon is found.
  • Denote area(s) in which the weapon is found.
  • Denote what type of species/subspecies drops the weapon.
  • Denote what type of chest, if any, the weapon can be found in.

For example:

;[[Core]]
*[[The Fissure of Woe]]
**[[The Shadow Army]]
**[[Spider]]
**[[Obsidian Chest]]s

;[[Nightfall]]
*[[Nightfallen Garden]]
**[[The Shadow Army]]
Specific areas in a region

If a weapon is found in a specific area and not an entire region, record the information by including:

  • The region where the area(s) is/are found.
  • Denote each area where the weapon drops.
  • Denote each species/subspecies from which the weapon drops.
  • Denote the type of chests in those areas that may contain the weapon.

For example:

;[[Kaineng City]]
*[[Nahpui Quarter (Mission)]]
**Random Drop
**[[Canthan Chest]]s
*[[Xaquang Skyway]]
**[[Vermin]]
*[[The Undercity]]
**[[Kappa]]
*[[Tahnnakai Temple (Mission)]]
**[[Temple Guardian]]
*[[Tahnnakai Temple (Explorable]]
**[[Temple Guardian]]
Multiple skins

If multiple skins exist of a single weapon, create an acquisition section for each skin. For example:

  • Fleshy Hornbow:
  • Serpent Hornbow:
    • Use the acquisition formatting above.
Collectors/Weaponsmith format
;[[Nightfall]]
*[[Collector]]s
**[[Nihanu]]
**[[Behruseh]]
**[[Charmamani]]
*[[Weaponsmith]]s
**All [[Weaponsmiths (Nightfall)|]]

Dye

This section involves the effect a basic dye makes on a weapon. State what part of the weapon can be dyed. Also state whether a dye acts differently than expected, i.e. A blue dye added to a Chaos Axe turns the axe red. If a weapon cannot be dyed, add a note stating such.

A dye chart can be added for visual reference. A dye chart should only use the base dyes, no mixtures.

Notes

Any relevant information that is not included in the above sections should be placed here. If this section is empty, it should be omitted. Relevant information may include, but is not limited to:

  • If a weapon was added in a specific update.
  • Any real life historical information regarding this weapon.
  • Any other weapons that use the same skin as this weapon.

Categories

See Guild Wars Wiki:Formatting/Categories. For weapons, most of the relevant categories to consider can be found as descendent subcategories of Category:Items (and especially within Category:Weapons). Some traits that are often used in categorization are:

Some of these categorizations may already be managed by the weapon infobox template.
