Ariyen[edit]

This request is for the sysophood of Ariyen (talkcontribslogsblock log).
Created by SitaJolie 07:46, 17 October 2009 (UTC).

I Nominate Ariyen, after seeing many contributions and other things. I feel that she would do good for the job. I may be 'new', but I have observed the wiki for a long long time. I think we need some good freshness that's not even from PvX or GWiki, but seems to have some decency. SitaJolie 07:46, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Candidate statement[edit]

I have noticed that many have already voted. I feel that they have not really looked at the contributes, just going on their personal opinions or views. Note that first impressions aren't always the best answer, but consider what the people do for you and the wiki. My statement is that I may argue and rarely I do in what I feel is right. I do observe the policies and am continually working on my knowledge of it. I have always known the responsibilities of maintaining big sites such as this wiki as I have been a Moderator of many different websites and I have owned sub domains, domains, etc. Have been moderator of many chat rooms, etc. So I know there's responsibilities to be made as well as being optimistic. I am not like many others on here, but I don't really try to bring my personal side in much. I look at things from an objective view as to what may work in general. I know of a few that don't like what I do and may try to 'correct', but I hope that with all do respect that they'd do their own thing and not be so 'picky'. Nothing can be perfect, but we all can try to work to make the wiki a better place and that's what I would like to do. It's what I hope and try to show through my current and recent contributions. I do appreciate help, and I try to help improve things too. The best goal in life is to never take things too personal or to the heart. It's a wiki, we're here as a community, as a family. I think it'd be best to work towards the good that we all can do. That's what I want to strive for, to do the best I can do and be honest, we all have our faults, but I'd prefer to do what I can to help and learn as in life, you never stop learning.

Support[edit]

  1. Support. Shows a good grasp of informative, intelligent site usage. Posts within context of subject matter and does not engage in abusive/denegrating behavior. Jaret Dax 18:43, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
  2. Pretty sure I would disagree with this user constantly on specific things, but her being a sysop would be more of a help than a harm to the wiki. -Auron 11:07, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
  3. Support - I've added this just because. This user has been a perfect editor in their three months here and there is nothing to suggest they wouldn't be equally great with an admin's hat. This should really be a neutral vote - I just felt the need to balance all the undignified nays in a small way :) (heh, (Edit conflict) with Auron ^_^) --snogratUser Snograt signature.png 11:10, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
  4. Support. As I looked through Ariyen's 1000+ contributions, the areas that stood out the most are Templates, Categories, and Feedback. The first two are important because they are areas that most users dare not tread, and the fact that Ariyen does so confidently indicates that she is comfortable with wiki maintenance, one of the technical jobs of sysops. In addition, a number of frequently used Templates are protected from non-sysop edits because altering them without due cause would cause a severe strain on the server queue. Helping out with the Feedback space isn't sysop qualification in particular, but it does show an effort to help users get sorted and a willingness to be part of the community. Aloofness in a sysop does no one any good to speak of. I therefore conclude that Ariyen will be able to make good use of sysop tools and be effective as a member of the community as well. Oppose[edit]

  1. RfA is way too early, user hasn't had a chance to show grasp on policy or knowledge of wiki consensus. What I have seen so far (on-wiki and off) makes me want to oppose, but the user has plenty of time in the future to get solid sysop-y contribs for later RfAs. -Auron 06:50, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
  2. Oppose /agree with Auron. Don't think this user has been here long enough to get a RfA yet, don't know if she could fully trusted with the tools, or if she's even sysop material. personn5User Personn5 sig.jpg 06:56, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
  3. Oppose For now, oppose, but in time you should apply again as other wiki users get to know you and your manners.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 07:08, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

  5. Oppose A person lacking in sysop qualities can't be a sysop. Flipping over contributions and past experience with this user supports that fact. Pika Fan 07:48, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

  7. Oppose. Wat. The user has yet to demonstrate his/her capability to be a sysop. Nothing he has done indicates this. As per Auron, try again after a year or two. NuVII User NuclearVII signature 3.jpg 09:33, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
  8. Oppose. I feel that she still needs to understand policies better, and show some critical thinking in regards to why the policies are in place before we give her sysop tools that require discretion and understanding. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 11:35, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
  9. Oppose. ↑Auron. WhyUser talk:Why 13:34, 18 October 2009 (UTC) I don't believe this [1] [2] [3] situation was handled appropriately so do not believe this user's contributions are of sysop level yet. 18. Oppose. I think Ariyen is still getting to grips with editing tools (for example, she's new to noinclude tags, but only after putting templates into categories which bled into multiple user pages via userboxes, and feedback pages via feedback templates), so I'm wary about giving her sysop tools on top of this. Mistakes can be easily fixed, yes, but I'd rather mistakes didn't happen at all (or were kept to an absolute minimum, and not made by inexperience but by simple "ups"-mistakes). I'd also prefer that mistakes weren't made across the board, e.g. putting categories outside/without noincludes on every template being categorised.
This isn't omgmajor, but I don't like seeing "being in control" used within the context of sysopping. I'm not totally sure about how she would handle cases which require extra judgement and discretion. -- pling User Pling sig.png 16:46, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

  22. User is certainly nice and carebear-y enough to help "balance the team" as Auron put it, but this user's comments about certain principles have caused me some serious concern. – Emmett 23:22, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Neutral[edit]

  1. Neutral I was going to flat out oppose from past experience of talking to Ariyen but then I decided to take a peek in Special:Contributions/Ariyen and went neutral instead -Talamare- feedback 13:47, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

  5. Neutral — per Why↑. Before supporting, I'd like to see this contributor draw more on the community to help resolve conflicts. I see lots of good skills and qualities, so I hope to see this RfA again relatively soon.   — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:33, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
  6. Neutral per Felix and Pling. I feel Ariyen has the potential to make a good sysop, but give it a bit of time and learn to wiki a bit better first. ~ PheNaxKian User PheNaxKian sig.jpg 15:13, 21 October 2009
