"Your Guild wars account has been terminated for payment fraud. This action is permanent." Today I get kicked out of my account, thinking it was my internet connection I attempt to log back in, but instead get this message. I recently bought additional storage, so this could've posed the problem. The thing is I have bought Nightfall and an extra storage slot before. So I called my bank to make sure everything was okay and they said the transaction went through and their was no problem with transferring money. Could anyone tell me what in the world is going on?

This is usually if there is some issue with your credit card. Contact support. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 17:43, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

We lost the access key to our guild wars factions game and can't get the game to play.how do we purchase an access key.

You should read that big red floating bar on this page.-- User Vanguard VanguardLogo.pnganguard 18:05, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
You can purchase a new access key through the online store or by buying a new copy of the game from any retailer. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 20:54, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Account hacked

My question is addressed to accounts being hacked. About a year ago my account was hacked and everything was stolen. But not only was everything stolen my main character was also deleted along with all 26 titlesI was offered very little help and the support team seemed cold when addressing my problem. All my hours of game play were lost and it felt like crap not being able to get back what was lost and having support telling me it was my fault. Has Anet made an upgrade yet to help players get back hacked account titles?--76.121.81.60 01:36, 8 November 2009 (UTC) And if not will there be better support in GW2?--76.121.81.60 01:36, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Please don't post the same question on multiple "Ask" pages. Sorry to hear about the hack. ArenaNet has not implemented any deletion-delay feature that can be found in a few (just a very few) online games. Most games don't have it. When someone figures out your password and logs in, the system has no way of telling that it's not you. So when a delete is requested, the delete will proceed. And if there's any possibility of restoring a backup, it would be right after a delete, not a year after. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 04:36, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Actually, it's extremely easy for the system to tell if a person isn't you. If the IP is different, the computer is probably different. It would be very simple to implement a deletion-delay feature that prevented a new IP address from deleting characters before 72 hours have passed. That's usually enough time to sort out an account hack issue without losing any characters. But hey, what do I know. –Jette User Jette awesome.png 05:00, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
That's a ridiculous restriction for people who travel, or even who play at friend's houses, or for that matter have Dynamic IP addresses. I play at several locations from various IP addresses, and if I were restricted from having full access to my account (whether it was deleting a character or liquidating my inventory) I would be really unhappy. A little common sense please Jette. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 05:06, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
It would only be inconvenient to people with dynamic IP addresses and people who are constantly using different new computers, if it remembered which IPs have used the account before. And I imagine there would be an option to turn it off for such people. It's not necessarily a perfect solution, but it might help. I would rather people simply not be capable of giving out their password for some reason, but I can't think of how that would work... –Jette User Jette awesome.png 08:14, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Dynamic IPs are very common in Europe. Your ISP generally forces you to reconnect after 24 hours, which gives you a new IP, so having a 72 hour limitation would be impossible. poke | talk 14:39, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
I did not mean to post the question multiple times sorry. I also didn't wait until now to bring the issue of my account being hacked up. At the time I asked all support areas and they were unable to do anything and were unwilling to help me in any manner (this was within a 3-5 hour time period after my account was hacked). I would just like a friendly support team and maybe an e-mail notice/confirmation before a character is deleted on an account. If you had to confirm a deletion with e-mail that makes it so no IP address check is required. I feel this is a very real problem for the GW community and it needs to be addressed and fixed if possible. What if some type of insurance could be bought for an account, like a game save that is stored on Anets servers?--76.121.81.60 20:32, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
The game is already backed up on external servers, but no one will roll back millions of characters because someone got "hacked". Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 21:29, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
I’m sorry to say but it isn't just one person (me) who has been "hacked" it is an ongoing problem that faces many GW players. If it weren't such a problem Anet wouldn't spend so many man hours attempting to find the hackers. And if the accounts are being backed up then why not make some extra cash by designing a feature that allows someone to retrieve a hacked/deleted character. I'm pretty sure a lot of GW players would be willing to pay $15-20 for account safety adding to Anet’s revenue.--76.121.81.60 23:42, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
The back ups are of the entire database. Having to split it into each individual character would require a complete restructuring of the database architecture that the game functions on. The amount of developer time this would take is enormous, and for a game that is 4+ years old, hardly worth it. It's very possible that this architecture will be changed for GW2, but we won't know until GW2 actually comes out. As it is, back-ups are only for the purpose of securing the entire game from a fatal server error. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 23:59, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
If you want to revert something, you'd have to revert EVERYTHING. Reverting one account can cause severe problems with duplicated items that got taken from that account, and that's just one of the problems. Nobody offers account reverts in any game that I'm aware off for a reason.
Again, sorry you got "hacked". 3 of my friends had their accounts infiltrated, so I kind of know from experience. One got his items back, one had their account blocked by ArenaNet before anything happened, and one was left naked because apparently everything got salvaged and merched. In all 3 cases, I helped those people a bit, and every time support was helpful. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower, but always helpful. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 02:22, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
If that wouldn't work what about the confirmation of character deletion by e-mail? How were they able to get back one of your friend's items and not the other's or mine Poki? Also I guess I must have just had a bad run in with the support team unlike your friends. I understand it may not happen often to most GW players since I don't hear too many complaints about them but they weren't too helpful to me or even friendly. The support team basically just told me what I already knew "you were hacked". Each letter seemed also to carry a suggestion that it was my fault and that if I don't want to get hacked I shouldn’t go on any websites other than GW's home page.--76.121.81.60 02:47, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
He got the items back, because they where still on the account that took them when they blocked him. And I think you misunderstood the response from support - It's not "their fault" in the sense that no one hacked into their database and took the password. It's "your fault", because you might have used the same password/username somewhere else, gave the password to someone else etc. That's just part of the copy/paste response with tips to keep your account safe in the future. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 14:18, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
It's not ArenaNet's reponsibility to make sure players take care of their own security. As long has they have the infrastructure in place for players to be secure, they have done their job. Keeping your data secure is a common practice that applies to all online services including your e-mail, and any other hosted services you may use. If someone obtains your information, it's always gonig to be a painful experience, but ultimately it's the victim that suffers. All the provider can do is ensure you have your rightfull access to the account restored. Imagine if it was bank fraud. The bank wouldn't be able to give you back your money - just your account. Or if someone burned your house down, you can't get your possessions back from the estate agent. It's an unfortunate loss, but it just has to be dealt with. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 14:42, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
I understand how it's not Anet's fault I never said it was, I don't understand why "their fault" would be in quotes. It is the player's job to be secure but it is also Anet's job to help the customer if possible that is all I'm saying. I'm not trying to throw blame at Anet, the blame goes to the hacker. I am just trying to find better ways of protecting an account from fraud and maybe get the GW community talking about these better ways. Most players think that they will never get hacked and their right but what if they do, what if you do? You will just become a victim that people hear about; people will say that sucks but o well. It’s an issue that just can’t be put aside. Biscuit what if your main characters Crumbly Biscuits or Pass The Towel were deleted? How would that make you feel that all your work went down the drain? What about what I posted above, could confirmation of deletion through e-mail help keep this type of thing from happening? And If that won’t work then what could? What ideas do you guys have?--76.121.81.60 17:05, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Will Buying a new Guildwars campaine increase my account character slots?

Ok, so currently, I have 1 GW account with all campaines and expansion (8 character slots in total). I want to add more character slots but I can't pay via micro stores. The question is: Will I be able to add more character slots to my current account if I buy another guildwars camplaine from some stores like walmart and apply the new key to my current account?

No. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 22:27, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
If you can play Guild Wars...and you have enough money, then you can use PayPal to purchase game upgrades (including character slots). (You can set things up so that there is only enough money in the PayPal account to cover the things you authorize. I'm sure that you can initialize the account using only a credit card or a bank account; you might be able to do so with just a money order.)   — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:28, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

access the game via secondhand bought game from ebay?

i have just purchased a copy of guild wars "SPECIAL EDITION" from ebay. all discs and instructions are in place along with the game activation card which has been scratched due to the game being second hand. will i be able to access the game without passwords or user names? if yes how? cheers. --Bj-burns 19:50, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

you should ask the dude who you bought it from for access to that account. although isnt buying Guild Wars account against the EULA?: 12.You may not offer in-game services for real-world cash. Jonny10 User Jonny10 Sig.png 19:57, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
To me it sounds like he bought an opened copy of the game. Which would simply be the posters or whatever, as long as he didn't get any account with it C4K3 User C4K3 Signature.jpg Talk 19:59, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, it's against EULA to buy in-game items, but as long as he just either got an used access key (no account information) or an unused access key it's not against EULA (because he didn't get any in-game items, just the game) But if he did get an account with it he has broken EULA C4K3 User C4K3 Signature.jpg Talk 20:04, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Guys and girls,

I knew the game was online but understood it was free to play as long as you had an original copy of the game, I do not want to play with someone elses player/character or anything they had gained from their game, And thought that i could start a fresh as long as i had the original discs, To my knowledge the chap i bought the game from just got fed up with it and decided to sell the game, I have bought many games via ebay this way. AS the game only cost me a few quid it wont be that much of a loss if i cannot gain the access to play. cheers for the help anyhow!

You don't need the discs, you need an access key. Those can be purchased from the online store, or by purchasing a new retail version. Sorry. I would recommend you contact the person who sold it to you and Ebay, as selling it was actually fraudulent, and you can most likely get your money back. Good Luck! -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 22:43, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
You should have asked if the access key was scratched off or used (more likely asked if it was used). If used, that should have been a clue not to buy the game. Secondly, you should have looked for one that's sealed in the box. We bought a couple of guild wars games off eBay, non scratched and sealed in box. Hope you might consider seeing a refund and getting one that's nonscratched, etc. -- User Ariyen sig icon.gifriyen 22:44, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
In any case, since the seller included the physical access key cards, you may want to try contacting him and requesting the login information for the game.--Fighterdoken 22:52, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Which is technically against the EULA, but we won't tell anyone. ^<__<^ At least if the dude gives you his account login and password, you can delete his characters and start your own from scratch. But yeah, to clarify, since you can download the game for free off the GuildWars official website, what you're actually paying for is the access key to create an account. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 15:11, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Faction Rewards

In Guild Wars. It Says 5k Faction Donation Equals 10k Reputation points. I only ever get 5 - 5 Per donation. do you have any advice or Answers to this bug/miss understanding

Sounds like you're not donating faction to your guild, rather getting something in return (amber/jade, skills, or scrolls). To get double the reward, you have to belong to a guild that belongs to an alliance of the appropriate faction and donate it to the alliance. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 23:01, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

The chances of a key generator creating a legitimate key are about 1 in several billion. If you have a computer with a good internet connection, though, that should only take a few days. I'll leave the rest up to you. Or you could save yourself the effort and just buy the key... or, if you've bought the game and it came without a key, take it back to the store and yell at whoever sold it to you incoherently. –Jette User Jette awesome.png 08:42, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
1 in several billion? There are approximately 808 undecillion combinations (8.08x10^38, or 808,281,277,464,764,048,992,929,720,899,223,945,216). We don't know how many of those are valid. I think it will take far more than a few days to reliably crack valid keys, especially as they probably have a some kind of lock-out process after so many valid attempts :-) Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 14:14, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Adding Trilogy to existing GW account

I recently bought the Guild wars trilogy and wanted to add it to mt existin GW account. I alread had GW 1 and Eye Of the North. But When I tried to add the key code It said I had to create a new account. Can the trilogy be added to my existing accuount and if not can My origional character be used in the trilogy parts? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 142.68.166.153 (talk).

I am going to say no it cannot. You cannot add a key for a campaign that you already have. You can contact support and see if they can help you. User DrogoBoffin sig icon.png Drogo Boffin 14:55, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Actually, that's not true. The game won't say you have to create a new account it will tell you that some of the stuff you're trying to add, you already have. You can still add it to your existing account. All you will gain is Factions and Nightfall, you won't get extra character slots or anything for the overlapping Prophecies. See the FAQ if you want to know how to get an existing character to one of the other expansions (and for a more detailed response to this question). -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 15:58, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Also, depending on what edition of the game you bought (Collector's, Game of the Year), you can also add it to your account. When I first bought Prophecies I bought the game of the year addition, I then recently bought the Collector's edition for the Fire Imp pet. All it said was that I was going to gain the Fire Imp pet, it does not say that you cannot add it. -- My Talk Lacky 04:23, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Doesn't matter. The easiest way would be to add the key, then run Guild Wars with "-image" added onto the shortcut (see Command line arguments), and not fuss with the disk at all. But, if you're on a slow connection, you might be better off installing from the disk (you'll still have to download a ton of stuff, due to updates, etc.). -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 13:32, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Double-check your username, password, and character name spelling. Try to reset your password. If all fails, contact support. There's not much we can help with. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 03:42, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Password Change

i recently installed guild wars, complete pack, on my pc and played it for an amazing 3hrs, only to log out and sign back in to find out that i was not allowed to log back in only to find out that the information i typed in was incorrect, and needed to be retyped, i did this and was still not correct, i had wrote down exactly what i had typed in as my account(email address) my password and word so i wouldnt forget, but still not allowed in, so i need to know what is going to happen as i am very disappointed, i asked to change my password and change my account name but have still not heard, please can you help me as i have waited 2 yrs to play this game..... Please do not post your email address or account info here. Please do, however, contact support so they can help you, as we are only players like you. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 15:25, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
Also, if you recently created a character (being it your first 3 hours), after you sign out, then you'll have to type in your character name (the 3rd line). Hope this helps! balistic 15:35, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Try looking through old screenshots or if any of your friends know your character's name. There's nothing we can do. balistic 17:54, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

why cant i log in --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.226.94.183 (talk).

Code 227 means that some part of your login information is invalid. Check to make sure you are using the right login name, password, and character name on the account. If the information is correct and you are still receiving an error, you will need to contact support for further assistance.--Pyron Sy 03:38, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

2 access keys

bought 2 access keys so we can play on different computers at the same time would it be better to create seperate accounts or add keys to same account

thanks --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.131.65.154 (talk).

Use each access key to create 2 separate game accounts. See Access key for more information. --Silver Edge 20:06, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
Also the access keys have to be of the same campaign or Trilogy / The Complete Collection, or else you won't be able to play together in PvE and certain PvP areas. --Silver Edge 20:15, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Old Username, New Email, No Password

I have forgotten my password, and I tried to reset it, but my email address changed. My username is (removed), but my email address is different. How can I change my password? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:173.74.36.231 (talk).

Try contacting support ~ KurdUser Kurd sig.png 22:29, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
I had this problem once. If you contact support using your new email address and explain the situation they should be able to help. They will likely ask you for information such as the account name (the email address you use to log into the game) and things which could prove you are the account holder (such as the access keys used on your account - the number you found on the plastic card when you added a campaign/created an account). There are other things support could ask from you if you don't know the access keys, but it's best you discuss it with them and not here on the wiki.
If you happen to have an NCSoft Master Account attached to your Guild Wars account and you can get into it, you are able to change your password without remembering the old one. Otherwise Support is your best option (and a good one at that). 58.110.89.46 22:37, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Banned

moved from Help:Ask a game question

What happens when an account is banned for gold, when the account was hacked when it was banned. Can I still have my account restored, even if everything is lost. I just want my chars. I haven't played my account for 5mo or more, and when I tried to log in, the password was changed, and it took 4hrs to get password changed, then said my account was banned for gold issue. I just installed the trilogy that I received for xmas, and reinstalled eotn, today, but says perma ban. Will they be able to restore me? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.61.161.18 (talk).

Had something similar happen to my husband months back, but all I can say is explain the whole situation to support and see what they say or even if they might can help you out. -- User Ariyen sig icon.gifriyen 20:49, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
