I'm guessing you got this from the guards around the minions? From what I've seen, the spawns don't drop anything, but the things around the generals do. Derikvyreflame 19:54, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Scoring[edit]

Here is the scoring info for this Challenge Mission. Enjoy!
Trick or Treat bags: (30 * Score) / Monthly Best
Gamer Points: (15 * Score) / Monthly Best
Gold: (2000 * Score) / (4 * Monthly Best)

ToT Daily Best Bonus: +10
ToT Monthly Best Bonus: +20
ToT Quarterly Best Bonus: +0 (Quarterly and Monthly will be the same)
GP Daily Best Bonus: +5
GP Monthly Best Bonus: +10
GP Quarterly Best Bonus: +0 (Quarterly and Monthly will be the same)
Gold Daily Best Bonus: +500
Gold Monthly Best Bonus: +1000
Gold Quarterly Best Bonus: +0 (Quarterly and Monthly will be the same)

Also, just FYI the Joko/King Thorn banter is random. There are 10 different possible trash-talking scenes, and one is randomly selected when a general dies, up to the 5th general. On the 5th generals death, Joko arrives. --Andrew Patrick 20:05, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

True, and is anything know on how to calculate the score? XD (I didn't see some sort of bar) finished it all in 8:30 minutes must be worth something :/ --you like that don't you..The Holy Dragons 20:33, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
You start at 1800 points, and lose one point per second. Similar to how Rollerbeetle Racing is scored. --Andrew Patrick 20:34, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Current score leader has 1790 points...that takes 10 seconds to accomplish...someone look into this? 98.28.217.162 02:57, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
A bug happened earlier and was fixed. Folks at Anet are probably at home, but I'm sure they'll fix whatever happened this time too (probably a stalling in the countdown?) Konig/talk 03:04, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
It looks like the bug wasn't fixed. The top score is 1,800 now. They "beat" it in 0 seconds lol.... I'm relatively new to GW and this is my first challenge mission, do "bugs"/hax affect the leaderboards often??69.140.60.63 08:32, 25 October 2011 (UTC)NaruDK
no it doesn't happen often (this is actually one of the first times I've seen it in my 6+ years gaming history of GW) --you like that don't you..The Holy Dragons 15:56, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
That is a bizarre way to write the formula for the gold reward. I'm a little surprised you would choose to think in that manner instead of (500 * Score) / Monthly Best. 87.152.42.177 19:01, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
This formula can't be right. I just did the mission and received 724g for a really poor run. Is it maybe (1000 * Score) / ( Monthly Best)? I took about 8 min to go through.
Yes, Unsigned Commenter, the formula given above does not currently calculate the gold reward correctly, so I updated the page with a formula I created based on testing. --War_Pig5 09:20, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
You now get 10 ToT bags and 5 Gamer points for completion, in addition to the ToT bags and Gamer points you would receive using the formula above. In other words, whatever you would get before, add 10 ToT and 5 Gamer points to it. Enjoy! (I edited the rewards section to reflect this.) --Andrew Patrick 20:42, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Durr.[edit]

Anet's been really creative making completely new skill icons without shit recolors and flipping. Oh wait. 128.119.156.73 20:31, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Yay, let's bash on free content we didn't pay for and that they didn't have to give us anyway. Lou Wolfskin 20:36, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I mean it's not like they actually had to design, implement, test, and re-implement this entire challenge mission for us. For free. They should've spent a few days of resources making brand new icons instead. /sarcasm 128.113.145.166 20:42, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
The Live Team doesn't have artists on the actual team, and the GW2 artists we borrowed were busy making this year's hats. (Which are going to be amazing, by the way.) So I did the icons, and Halloweenifying the map myself. I felt having icons that you can differentiate at a glance was the highest priority, which is why I used the ones I did. --Andrew Patrick 20:52, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Wow, I didn't realize NCSoft or ANet paid for my accounts and all my account extras out of their pockets. I'm pretty sure I paid for that out of my pocket. So what's up with all this "free content we didn't pay for" defenses I've been reading on wiki and ingame. Nothing is for free and if it is, I'd like to join that club. Would make both my game life and real life so much more affordable. I think the "free" defense is just a pathetic excuse to ignore people who are trying to make a point/share opinions. And no I don't care if you want to flame cuz I said this as I really don't care one way or other. I just felt like adding my opinion and thoughts on all this "for free" statements flowing all over. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 96.60.175.13 (talk • contribs) at 0:21, 25 October 2011 (UTC).

Basically, you bought the game for the content that was in it on release. Expansions are new content that you must pay more for. This content being added in, however, is new, and yet doesn't have to be paid for, just like the guild wars beyond content.
Think of it like getting a new car, and a couple months after you buy it, the company installs a brand new stereo for free. You paid for the car, and the new stereo is free. It'd be a lie to say that you had to pay for the stereo, because you didn't.
You asked about 'what's up with all this "free content we didn't pay for" defenses,' well, there it is, plain and simple. ^^ Derikvyreflame 01:31, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
OH, and not to mention that it is couple with the other "excuse," of how the (amazing, hard working) team who is giving this content to you is a small group of people who have limited time and resources. Blood and ashes, they go and design a new mission for halloween, different from past years, while they could be spending their time and resources on the Winds of Change, which is also free. In my opinion, something like recoloring old icons is not something that requires complaining Derikvyreflame 01:38, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
What you paid for, ip 96.60, was the content released with Prophecies, Factions, Nightfal, Eye of the North, and/or Bonus Mission Pack. Not Halloween, nor Wintersday, nor Canthan New Years, nor Dragon Festival, nor Embark Beach, nor the regular (or irregular) skill balance updates, nor Sorrow's Furance nor Domain of Anguish, nor hard mode, nor Beyond. Thanks for the back-up, konig ^^ Derikvyreflame 03:36, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
To 128.119 and 96.60, complain more please. You're worse than people who play subscription based games, whom actually have a "right to complain" if they get "rehashed" content. Oh no, heaven forbid Anet give people another way to get ToT bags or work on their game title FOR FREE (yeah I said it). Seriously, all some people do is whine and moan. Its getting pathetic. Magi 03:54, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and 96.60, noone forced you to buy the account extras. You did that out of your own choice, so don't complain about spending extra money when you didn't have to. I'm glad to see there's such ungrateful people in the world. /sarcasm Magi 03:59, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
"Nothing is for free". Apart from your ingratitude apparently . Robdalf 05:13, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Amazing, a couple people give an opinion and then get tons of "for free" statements and slanders (ex: ungrateful, stupid, butt word, etc ingame). I didn't expect that such a simple point of not actually for free could go over so many heads. especially those with such big ego's and think so high of themselves, just one question, where is the line to bow down to the self appointed gods amongst mere humble people?! --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 96.60.175.13 (talk).

I was the original IP who made this section, and I just want to say I apologize if I offended any of the development crew. I had no knowledge that you guys in the Live Team did not have a texture artist, and assumed that you guys had one given the WoC content and new costumes. Again, I apologize for my irrational, anger-bent behavior. 96.233.188.166 12:05, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Costumes, festival hats, and the like are made by GW2 artists - the Live Team can't take too many resources from them, as it'll slow down GW2 production at a point, so they put it to the best things they can get (like Dhuum's skin and animations two years ago - god... has it been that long already?) If you note, most WoC skill icons for news are the generic monster skill icon. Konig/talk 15:42, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
And just for attention to detail, they even TP'ed some of the trees in this mission. I like it. -- Tekn0mancer User Tekn0mancer-Awaken the Blood 19px sig.jpg (Talk) 20:14, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Experience[edit]

I haven't gotten much chance to check yet, but it seems that you don't get experience here. Smart thinking on A-Net's part to avoid easy leveling heroes and players Derikvyreflame 20:34, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Appears that you only get XP and drops from the fixed foes, not the spawns (not uncommon, see Assault on the Stronghold). Even though you get XP from even those foes, deaths here do not appear to affect Survivor.Adeira Tasharo 20:46, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
+ no DP here either from what I've noticed. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 20:55, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
With the guards in place it would be too easy to solo AFK. Some mobs (the rooms) do give XP and if you calculate it would give 136 xp per enemy if you solo. With 700-880xp per minute this would give a free legendary survivor in 27-29 hours of AFKing.. Do you want that? ;-) But for the rest is the mission completely survivor-safe! --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 12:25, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

First Time[edit]

First time I did this I had no idea what needed to be done so I've spend 30 mins defending Mad King Thorn, after 30 mins have passed, Thorn killed the team saying that he requested to kill Joko fast, I feel so stupid xD --MageUser MageMontu sig.pngMontu 22:00, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Lol, what n00bs! Oh wait, I didn't exactly exhibit l33t skillz on my initial attempts, either. I ran through twice (succeeded on the third), both times Mad King got toasted while I was still trying to figure out how to use those nifty skills properly and what I actually needed to do (strategically) to succeed. The fact the mission map (U) is totally black makes navigating the area--despite it being small and symmetrical--rather confusing (its symmetry actually makes it more confusing w/out the mission map available) when you're scurrying about in WTF's Going On mode. Seriously guys[edit]

Not trying to open up a fight again, but really, complainers? Who cares what the skill icons look like? I dunno about you, but for me the skill icons are the little boxes down there that I memorize the locations of and then ignore while I beat down on Joko's forces in this kickass new challenge mish (which I truly hope doesn't vanish with Halloween, though I know it will). This is a video game, not a museum, and if I wanted to spend hours looking at colored boxes I'd take a ride down to LA and gaze at Van Gogh's Irises (and others). And in addition, I think the icons used are quite appropriate, and make it easy to remember which skill does what at a glance. This is something that, for me, is just a hell of a lot of fun to play even if you fail, and I was too busy laughing at my tiny zombie-killing minions to even spare a thought for the skill icons. Skill icons. Come on. And again - TINY CANDY MINIONS. FTW. 67.181.180.101 05:10, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Possible prize?[edit]

Since this is similar to the Rollerbeetle Race (in that there are recorded top scorers for a holiday event game), could it be possible that there might be a prize (minipet or something else) for the top scorers, like the Miniature Greased Lightning was for the Rollerbeetle Race? Or is that an absurd idea? Ailina 07:59, 25 October 2011 (UTC) PS: inb4 "the last thing we need is more uber-rare minipets that a normal player will never get to see!!1!one!!"

You mean http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Miniature_Mad_King%27s_Guard? The thing that already exists, and may possibly be awarded, but probably not?

bug[edit]

There is a team with 1,800 points so obviously there is a bug/anomaly, an undocumented way to gain points or a hack. --War_Pig5 10:51, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

This is a BUG, not a hack. The scores will be deleted asap. It's possibly caused by the increased server strain over the holidays. --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 12:23, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

I raised it on the support forum but it was shot down in flames by the Mod. Rather unhelpful response actually, as I thought it was more of an oversight/bug than a suggestion. Robdalf 00:37, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Goal[edit]

Killing the priests is not required to complete the mission. It may be necessary to stop them sending mobs to attack Thorn, but only the generals need to die to summon Joko. Should be amended accordingly.Asterai 07:23, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Correct, you don't have to kill the priests. But it doesn't matter though - the waves will stop once the boss have been defeated. --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 20:15, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
I suggest the following changes to the text of the mission:
Goal: Kill all six generals and defeat Palawa Joko.
Walkthrough:The main goal is to kill Joko's generals to force Joko to come out and fight, and kill Joko himself. There are 12 bosses at the mission start; 6 generals and 6 priests. Each general is accompanied by a priest and six guard NPCs, so there are six groups of static mobs. The priest resurrects the guards periodically unless killed; the general sends waves of enemies to attack Thorn periodically unless killed. King Thorn himself resurrects all his guards and your party members every two minutes. When you have killed five of the generals, Joko will appear with the remaining general, and King Thorn will join you to attack Joko. Killing Joko completes the mission, regardless of whether the final general or any of the guards or priests have been killed. Finish quickly for a high score.
Depending on how quickly your party can kill the generals, you will need to balance offensive efforts (killing generals) with defensive efforts (killing waves of enemies and healing Thorn). Thorn himself is a strong warrior NPC and can hold his own for some time without additional help.
Fast-moving parties can simply focus on killing the generals, moving up one branch of the triangular map, killing both generals, and returning to help Thorn before traversing the next branch. If your party can kill two generals in about two minutes, this strategy is entirely viable.
Slower parties may need to split, leaving one or two players to defend Thorn, or to return more frequently, after killing each general.
Notes: It may be best not to leave the monk boss, in the right-hand side of the northern brach of the map, for last, since killing Joko with two monks healing him may be difficult.
Heroes perform admirably in this mission and heal party members appropriately.
Asterai 20:45, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Dialogue[edit]

Is it just me or is some of the (funny) dialogue from other places. Like Palawa's last line "You'll rue the day! Go on, start ruing"-isn't it from Stewie Griffin (Family Guy). I think some of the other dialogue is from elsewhere but I just can't place them.

"The Leprechaun tells me to burn things!" Is a quote from Ralph Wiggum on the Simpsons.

Awakened guards build[edit]

I noticed that the awakened guards carry the same build of their normal counterparts. should be new pages created for the guards? or a simple redirect to their normaal counterparts would do the trick as well? oh, by the way, during dialogues, king thorn and joko's faces DO appear in some spots. i saw them while i was inside Miftah's place and i killed him, so i think this is a bug, not an anomaly--User Kyx signature Skull.gifKyx 10:25, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
